to all you people that love fast guitar players that actually bore me after 5 minutes. Watch this and see the heart and soul put into this guitar playing. Unbelievable, when I watch this man play I want to burn all my guitars lol
Yes, Mr. Mike ... music is mostly about TWO things: Contrast and feeling. Nothing wrong with fast, if you throw in some contrast to fast. And son, this is an example of FEELING!!
Am I the only one who got chills up his and spine and almost started crying due to the beauty of this performance? This was a spiritual experience! I LOVE the El Mocambo performance, and this looks to be another out-of-body experience for Stevie!
Stevie is the whole package, his skills, his sound, his stage presence, his facial expressions, his stamina and on and on. Stevie is a once in a lifetime treasure.....
The more watch & listen the more I feel this Texas flood version and El macambo version are equally the best Stevie played. Wow. I'm 62 years and blown away. Just wonderful. Top shelf. Blue's On
Aki79 i bet he does lol but there's a reason john inducted srv to the hall of fame..john along with many other underrated guitar players have so much soul.. YOU and ME only resonate with certain things...and when we dont..that doesn't mean it has no soul..
I just love his patience. Not worried about how many notes he can fit in a riff. His transitions are genius. Everything is complete "feel." No dynamics, no muddy distortion, no shitty guitar with active pick-ups. Just him and the texas strat standing in front of the world. There will never be another player like him.
hell yes, Kyle..... what Chris is NOT playing is just important as what he IS playing. Not a lot of drummers can play that crisply with such restraint. This is true for the entire trio, really.....
Still, sober or not, his BEST performance of a song, from the 15 yrs or so that Ive been listening to all the records, bootlegs, videos I could find, has to be Texas Flood from the El Macombo video done in '83 I think it was.
ABSOLUTELY amazing...what a loss to us all. Where he would have gone (and taken us along for the ride) will never be known, but where we went together while he was with us will never be forgotten.
Thanks Jessrama For your comment I am a fortunate man! To have seen Stevie Ray and Double Trouble play as many times as I did and too have also purchased all of his records when they were originally released and too have been an adult during the time of his life and career. It sounds like a fairy tale to you! And I can understand why. Seeing your profile and that you are only 24 years old I can understand why you said something wonderful and O OF R believe me Stevie Ray and his band playing was.
It is 12:59pm on July,11th, 2009. 26 years ago tonight I was at the ElMocambo gig here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I'll never forget Stevie and Double Trouble!... RIP Stevie!
I was there at the EL Macambo gig on July 11th 1983. I can tell you, That version was a great version!... I also like this version in Tokyo... One of the great attribute's this man had was he could play the same song at different times, And give it a different twist everytime he played that particular song. I was fortunate enough to see Stevie Ray and Double Trouble play six times in their career.
srv has to be one of the best if not the best guitarist ever and im pretty sure nobody will ever live again and acomplish what this man did in his short lifetime !!!!!!! two words GUITAR GOD
It is 11:59pm on July 11th, 2009. 26 years ago tonight I was at the El Mocambo gig here in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I will never forget Stevie and Double Trouble!... RIP Stevie!
Man I felt Stevie's soul man!!! I've watched tons of SRV clips but this one has that Magic that everybody always talks about when they talk about SRV... This one has a very deep, darker, grittier vibe to it really capturing another side of SRV not always seen.... Fuck, I'm high as all hell lol
Hell..Im in 2020..I've moved on and Stevie 4ay Vaughan is without a doubt the greatest blue's legend you will ever be able to say..hey..I listen to 5his music legend all the time..Best 5here is and ain't nobody can out play the master of blue's cause it's in Stevie's soul just like rock n roll..straight to the point..r u with me..phenomenal
Stevie. Ray Vaughan on Stage and Double Trouble sending out a sensational sound and hitting every beat and cord there is to entertain you and phenomenal is the word..r u with me? RIP STEVIE..THE BEST MUSICIAN THAT EVER LIVED..
Your absolutely correct Jessrama!... Good Musicians Should NEVER Fade To Oblivion!... And I Sure Hope That Stevie Ray's Legacy Will Shine On Forever!!!... For Generations To Come. I Wish That All Kids Born In The 70's, 80's And Post 80's were old enough or just could have been around to not only have seen Stevie Ray and Double Trouble, But also other great musicians/bands too. I am fortunate in having fine memories! Thank You!
This VDO is here to tell you SRV is unmatched in his style, technique or feel..and I am here to tell you Jimi would be the first guy to say this is the finest electric blues player who ever lived, knowing he himself never came close to SRV's special take on the blues. You will not find one VDO anywhere showing Jimi playing so fluently, expressively..because he never did. Jimi wrote great songs, gave us fine new licks..but he was nowhere as accomplished as Stevie was. RIP SRV and RIP Jimi.
Yea well SRV is the best but truly WITHOUT jimi there wouldnt be the SAME STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN. Jimi was his idol he knew Jimi played dirty and messy for style dig...also btw like Jimi said people even copy my mistakes lol
I just commented on a Joe Bonamassa song and like I commented got some whiskey down my throat listening to blues, I'm a blues lover, but one thing I got to say, please no negative comment, we all have our own opinion and taste, but I love Clapton but when I get to SRV man... It's a whole different story. I mean Clapton had all his life and til now to prove himself to be God but imagine SRV was still alive. My man he would have become something unstoppable. I mean come on, he's a whole next level and his short period just proved it and imagine if he was still alive. I just thank God that life is amazing! No matter what, once you're good at what you do you become a legend and it's like you're still alive and that is you Stevie!!! Hit many souls and influence many musicians to never give up and just keeping the blues alive.
You got that right astroman30..but for the love of the world,I sure hope there is another player out there right now, rippin it up,with the same heart and soul that just spewed from Stevies playing..Thanks for the tune oykngiksws !!!
Stevie could play fast for 10 mins and u will be in awe. He could play ultra slow for 10 mins as you still will be in awe. Every one knows Stevie for his fast playing, but this Tokyo show is actually a lesson in slow blues plying.
if you watch every performance he has of this song they are all different and yet he somehow makes them all equally good!!! just amazes me that he could do a song every show, do it different and still have it ALWAYS blow me away!!!
how can millions view a Justin Bieber video but only 81,000 view this masterpiece of a performance by an eternal musical legend? We are all doomed! SRV was bare bones and brilliant, I truly regret never getting to see him perform. With the possible exception of a young B.B. King or Hubert Sumlin, no one played with more emotion
most mind blowing tone ive heard..stevie ran so many different amp combos and was a pure tone junkie.hed change things around from show to show on occasion trying to see what he could pull from every inch of electronics he had but even he outdid himself on this set
“Only the good die young….”. What else could this guy have brought us…..? But, honestly, let’s not forget Double Trouble, those guys are equally awesome
I don't like hearing someone say "Oh it's so sad _____ died".. Musicians like SRV, Hendrix, Mozart etc DO NOT DIE. Their music lives on. Other musicians try to learn it and It just doesn't die...Therefore their spirit lives on..
He gave us all that he had in his playing. Dynamite comes in little packages. I saw them in the summer 87. The owners of the Colluseum in Ft Wayne wouldnt turn the ac on, and it didnt seem to bug the band even though he commented on the heat. I figured it was hotter in Texas, so it was like he felt bad for us. The whole room was ringing wet but we got their best. A lot more soul poured out than sweat. The crew kept changing his rigs for him in the middle of a tune! Never missed a lick. While all eyes were on Stevie, Chris chain smoked while Tommy stood turned to the drum riser and they were having a conversation! Reese was so laid back, I dont think he opened his eyes the whole time. But they werent showing off. It was just relaxed as hell. The Allman Bros kicked ass as well. On the way home, we were so thirsty, we hit the first bar we found. After asking for a 6 pack to go, the bartender really said, " You boys aint from around here, are ya?" ( theres no carry out on Sun in IN) We told him where we had been, and he says," You can stay and have one." That bar keep and the roomful of patrons never saw a couple of skinny kids from Ohio drink two beers so fast! We had to go because we had left our pal in the car! A great night Ill never forget.
I sorta get what you're saying but there are things to learn from Yngwie as well. I can agree that Yngwie's playing is a bit over the top but he has nice tone, instantly recognizable vibrato and his own "voice", and he has done some nice songs. Comparing Yngwie and SRV is like comparing coffe and orange juice, way different.
@default1337 Just so you know, it orignally had emg pick-ups when given to him by Billy Gibbons, but he quickly changed them to single coils right after the "Couldn't Stand The Weather" video because he "hated" the sound. My source for this info is Wikipedia: Type in "Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitars."
damn, some really famous guitarists can't play nearly as half as good as he did with his guitar behind his back !! R.I.P Stevie, you were one of a kind.
I think that he did some of his best chord work after he got clean. His sound was just incredible. I really like this slower version of Texas Flood. I got lucky enough to see him in a free concert at UF back in 1983.
they should release a dvd of this footage. This is the crazy stuff where SRV came out on stage just like how Albert King used to, with a pipe and all that. This is getting near the height of all his drug abuse, but his tone and performance is so insanely good.
He was indeed amazing - perhaps the best. Strat across my knee? No but something else is lying across my knees that my girlfriend loves more than the Strat ;-)
SRV's the reason I started playing the blues. May he R.I.P.
Me too
Same here
i could listen to srv 24/7
One of the very best to ever pick up a guitar..
srv did a lot for the blues
like clapton said .. the boy doesnt even take a breath in his impros ..its just flowing
to all you people that love fast guitar players that actually bore me after 5 minutes. Watch this and see the heart and soul put into this guitar playing. Unbelievable, when I watch this man play I want to burn all my guitars lol
Mike G it is fantastic. I grateful it got recorded. Blue's On
He doesn't know quite which way to go but still able to keep you waiting for the next resolution
Best player imho
Yes, Mr. Mike ... music is mostly about TWO things: Contrast and feeling. Nothing wrong with fast, if you throw in some contrast to fast. And son, this is an example of FEELING!!
Pure genius. Flashy confident but not arrogant. What a pure soul. Love Stevie
SRV could play better behind his back than most can normally, he was a genious guitarist!!
😊😊😊ลล😊😊
Am I the only one who got chills up his and spine and almost started crying due to the beauty of this performance? This was a spiritual experience! I LOVE the El Mocambo performance, and this looks to be another out-of-body experience for Stevie!
No one like Stevie NEVER!! We love you man!!! You may have passed away but your music will remain in our hearts!
Stevie is the whole package, his skills, his sound, his stage presence, his facial expressions, his stamina and on and on. Stevie is a once in a lifetime treasure.....
💜💜💜💜
The more watch & listen the more I feel this Texas flood version and El macambo version are equally the best Stevie played. Wow. I'm 62 years and blown away. Just wonderful. Top shelf. Blue's On
this is the BEST! version of "Texas Flood".
Who's in here in 2019 just groving to the old times!?
Dude this music is immortal, 100 years from now our grandchildren will be posting here
I'm here in 2024. Still miss him 😢 His music will always live on. Rest in Peace Stevie Ray Vaughan you will always be rembered and loved ❤🤟✌️❤️🌼
If you shit yourself halfway through this video....no one blames you. #guitargod
I didn't realize how much John Mayer sound like him
Keith Greene Yeah right. John wish he had half the soul of Stevie.
Aki79 i bet he does lol but there's a reason john inducted srv to the hall of fame..john along with many other underrated guitar players have so much soul.. YOU and ME only resonate with certain things...and when we dont..that doesn't mean it has no soul..
SRV
I just love his patience. Not worried about how many notes he can fit in a riff. His transitions are genius. Everything is complete "feel." No dynamics, no muddy distortion, no shitty guitar with active pick-ups. Just him and the texas strat standing in front of the world. There will never be another player like him.
4:57 Chris Layton, that's a drummer who knows his stuff, that little hi hat open on Stevie's slide is just perfect
+Kyle Koplien NO DOUBT!
hell yes, Kyle..... what Chris is NOT playing is just important as what he IS playing. Not a lot of drummers can play that crisply with such restraint. This is true for the entire trio, really.....
Best musician, artist, person ever would have to be Stevie without a doubt. Worship worthy.
Noise= people just hearing the instraments. Music is feeling every instrament importents like you sir.
Still, sober or not, his BEST performance of a song, from the 15 yrs or so that Ive been listening to all the records, bootlegs, videos I could find, has to be Texas Flood from the El Macombo video done in '83 I think it was.

i am so glad we have these awesome videos of stevie that we can watch over and over again
I still miss him 😢. I'm thankful I got to see him in "87. He was the one for a few decades. RIP Stevie you are missed and loved ✌️❤️🌼
"Well I'm leavin' you baby, Lord Going back home to stay, Back home, no floods or Tornados. The sun shines everyday"
srv has to be one of the best if not the best guitarist ever and im pretty sure nobody will ever live again and acomplish what this man did in his short lifetime !!!!!!! two words GUITAR GOD

His tone is the most amazing guitar tone ever!!!! Unbelievable.....
somebody slipped that cat some neckbones, collard greens & chitlins.... so much SOUL !!!!!! GOTTDAMMMM A guitar master
I used to think the faster you play the better you are until I discovered Srv. Now I know what guitar greatness sounds like.
who on earth would dislike this video. my goodness.
The opening note of this song alone blows my mind. I loved his sound during this set. It was a bit sharp, yes, but his sustain was unbelievable.

In Remembrance of the heart and soul of a guitar. Missed forever Mr. Stevie (October 3, 1954 - August 27, 1990)
Those tubes are ON FIRE!!
WOW...I sure miss him. He had the most amazing tone....ever...EVER!!!!!

Also SRV semi quasi teacher Albert King taught shit to JIMI hence the similarities on bends improvs phrasing etc
Butler University, Stevie didn't miss a beat. I lost my job seeing him and it was well worth it.
I just commented on a Joe Bonamassa song and like I commented got some whiskey down my throat listening to blues, I'm a blues lover, but one thing I got to say, please no negative comment, we all have our own opinion and taste, but I love Clapton but when I get to SRV man... SENSATIONAL..a legend and its Stevie Ray Vaughan to carry that trophy in life.
You damn right! R.I.P. Stevie!!!!! Thank you for everything you did and for all the work you left behind
Yes!!!!!!!
Stevie didn't play music or the blues, he LIVED his music AND the blues!
You got that right astroman30..but for the love of the world,I sure hope there is another player out there right now, rippin it up,with the same heart and soul that just spewed from Stevies playing..Thanks for the tune oykngiksws !!!
Holy Shit. That is the best SRV performance I have ever heard.
WoW. just WoW!
Thank you for this version! He DID NOT want to rush a GOOD THING!!!!! Whooo weee BABY!!!!
Stevie could play fast for 10 mins and u will be in awe. He could play ultra slow for 10 mins as you still will be in awe. Every one knows Stevie for his fast playing, but this Tokyo show is actually a lesson in slow blues plying.
SRV....GOAT GREATEST OF ALL TIME ...IN MY LIFE TIME ...
I love this man, his music always puts me in a better mood, :)
The two dislikes can surely burn in whatever place they believe is hell...
if you watch every performance he has of this song they are all different and yet he somehow makes them all equally good!!! just amazes me that he could do a song every show, do it different and still have it ALWAYS blow me away!!!
That bend is very special made me stand up from my seat
no one like stevie
i have this concert video..two words..just awesome..SRV at his best!
A mission that only Stevie could pull off, and he made it look so easy
❤❤❤

greatest guitar player ever to walk the planet coked up or not
not even god could play like that
I don't think anyone will ever play like this again, i doubt it !
I think I heard his guitar begin to sing. The way he and the drummer played together was beautiful.
“Only the good die young….”. What else could this guy have brought us…..? But, honestly, let’s not forget Double Trouble, those guys are equally awesome

It's slow which is sexy.kinda drawn out which we all know is anticipation . Lovely
Love it!
this should have way more views than it does
@Songwriter4God Blues is metal without the coating of speed and complexity, revealing it's true mood and power.
@default1337 Just so you know, it orignally had emg pick-ups when given to him by Billy Gibbons, but he quickly changed them to single coils right after the "Couldn't Stand The Weather" video because he "hated" the sound. My source for this info is Wikipedia: Type in "Stevie Ray Vaughan's guitars."
fuck ...that tone is like phenomenal.
Amazing.
Stevie plays behind his back and doesn't afraid of anything.
whow ehh blues forever!! PEACE FROM BRAZIL
Albert kings influence is really showing in this one..yet stevie still made it his own. Love it.
that true he played really good and fast at el mocambo, but I like every version of his songs, they all have something diferent an wonderful.
what an artist
"WELL FLOOD WATERS KEEP A RO-RO-RO-ROLLING"
yes! I love it, Stevie is badass!
One of a kind... no one like him. RIP
LOVE LOVE S.R.V. I KNOW WERE EVER HE IS HE WILL BE A ROCKING
💗💗💗
Absolutely outstanding

11 thumbs down!!??? WTF is wrong with people??? Must be the Miley Cyrus fan club!
+jeffjohnson baby u Ain't looking a big picture. John Mayer brought the next generation of SRV Fans
Dawn John mayer is a pop artist right up there with Bruno mars. fuck him
they should release a dvd of this footage. This is the crazy stuff where SRV came out on stage just like how Albert King used to, with a pipe and all that. This is getting near the height of all his drug abuse, but his tone and performance is so insanely good.
Je l aime !!!!!
He was indeed amazing - perhaps the best. Strat across my knee? No but something else is lying across my knees that my girlfriend loves more than the Strat ;-)
