For pity sakes. So fluid, so relaxed, so groovy. Steve, you freak me out. Who ever shot this, thanks for sharing. its not a great music video, but it is an AWESOME chance to hear the master at work...
@@daleford9606 You're right, Dale. Once you're a master, you can't get even better. Everybody knows Buddy Rich didn't keep improving through 70's and 80's =^F
@@alicenali4577 thats real cool...would have loved to see Gadd and the band up close....last time i saw gadd was way too long ago...take care..its obvious you know great music...and drummers :)
Gadd may not have the arsenal of chops like Vinnie or Dave, but you can't deny his sense of timing/pocket. In that regard, there's no other drummer alive who compares to Gadd. That's why musicians are still hiring him at age 70.
IIrc someone said Gary Chester considered Gadd to be one of a hand-full of drummers with 'perfect' time - and stipulated that it was about regarding the spaceing between the notes as part of the feel, which partly inspired his approach of 'singing' along with the exercises in his famous book, The New Breed.
..excellent drumming as ever..since decades he is accomplishing my life as a professional percussionist... but I am a little concermed about his skinny arms on this latest video... I hope, he is doing well...and that is only the camera perpective ..!
Go to this site with the calculator and count Steve Gadd's achievements, then evaluate his playing. Also let me know if there is anybody else with the same contribution to the music in general. Steve considers him self as a RB musician, and then again he's on more jazz records then a lot of big time, "pure" jazz drummers. You might grow old before you finish listening of all the recordings. www.drstevegadd.com/discography.htm
John Elfrank-Dana - I couldn't get any tickets for the shows. RTF with Lenny White was sold out too!! I was pissed to say the least!! But that's New York for ya!! The best players on the planet gravitate to that ground and the people come out to hear and see it!!
What pisses me off is how damned expensive these concerts and shows are now. I bet it was at least $150 for the ticket and two drinks. I was there for Steve Carlton with my son the last time. We also so McLaughlin's 4th Dimension there too. Barot was amazing on drums. But, $600 for my son's David Gilmoure ticket and about that for last seat in nosebleed for McCartney (which I told my daughter about opportunity costs) and it pisses me off.
The camera mic and limiter, and the position of the camera behind the drums are why the sound is that way. Drums don't sound like that live and from the audience perspective. Gotta see Chick et al LIVE. It's the only way, bro...
wait a minute....real problem here.....so many suffer from.....you are not getting the board mix, you are behind the drum wedge .....getting a camcorder mic picking up the sound.....the truth is .....you are only getting what the cell phone camera is picking up....not the true sound in the room.....if more people think this....this is why bootleg video is bad.....i love the sound by the way....its natural....not compressed and squashed.............
If we are being honest here, Steve Gadd's drums have always sounded like shit. I love his playing, but his philosophy on drums and tuning couldn't possibly disagree with my ears any more than it currently does. That said, I think we are just hearing horrible sound from the camera mic.
darkasthegrave...I'm going to suggest a comparison video to prove that these "new" R.C. are bad sounding. Go check out the Weckl video from the same venue a week before....he is playing a Phoenix kit. The video & sound is again from behind the drums. The Yamaha kit sounds fantastic!!! & Weckl is playing brilliantly!!!!! Gadd is great but those $6000 drums sound like complete shit!!!! Sorry!...The Yamaha people lost me when the Sakae master drum craftsmen left the company & Yamaha moved to China!!!!
Wow! Never seen Gadd at this viewpoint. Very interesting for me as a drummer
This IS Freaking KILLER!!! He's So Smooth. Dances Behind that Kit.
This perspective is so great (we hear the snare better) and allows to better understand his playing such as his subtile variations around ostinatos.
Plus one can use the rhytm track:)
For pity sakes. So fluid, so relaxed, so groovy. Steve, you freak me out. Who ever shot this, thanks for sharing. its not a great music video, but it is an AWESOME chance to hear the master at work...
Man, Gadd is one of the all-time greats, to be sure. I've been a fan since "Friends" back in the late '70s. RIP, Chick Corea.
Love it, the Gadd master at work!
I’ve always considered Gadd a groove master but never knew just how impressive his his bass technique is until this video!
Thanks for sharing!
Lord have mercy, he is even better than he was in the 80's and 90's. Just. Wow.
Better how? He has always been a wizard...
@@daleford9606 You're right, Dale. Once you're a master, you can't get even better. Everybody knows Buddy Rich didn't keep improving through 70's and 80's =^F
Those Yamaha drums sound great, but look who's playing them. 🤘
What a Great vantage point for a drummer to have. Thanks for posting/sharing this video of the Master at work…
I Love You Steve!
Awesome Steveliness going on here!
Gadd is great. Gadd is good. Let us thank him for this food. Amen.
hahaha Amen....!!
Wow!! Solid timekeeping and very creative playing by one of the greatest drummers ever!! Thanks for the video.
One of Great drummer ever! Doctor Steve Gadd
Awesome, one of my favorites
WOW, now that's a great view!! thanx for posting man
Right on Steve ! Thanks for posting
This was a great night! Thanks for the posting.
The cleanest drumming you'll ever hear.
Gadd is great but there're many others :)
What a great view of a genius at work.! Salute!
Outstanding video. Gadd can still "bring it" for being over 70. Wow! Great energy. And the crowd is definitely up close and personal.
DrummerDanVa I'm the woman with the white top. I can tell you that I was closer to him than Eddie Gomez... hahahah

Tres cuartetos, uno de mis discos favoritos..
I'm ready to present my own skin for his drums!Genius musician!
Masterrrrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thnak´s !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is great.................!
Wonderful!!!!!
Mesmerizing!
amazing view. thanks for sharing!
Real sound real music Wow wow wow
Thanks for sharing! Happy drumming everyone:)
Quartet No.2, Part 2
Great vantage point!
triific stuff. great viewpoint. great playing.
Very nice Bass pedal and Cymbal co-ordination.
left hand weaving layers and playing counter rhythms w/ the bass player - wow
Way more interesting than your normal jazz style player. I can actually understand this better.
Old Yoda still laying down the Groove......
Great..
70 here. Wow!
let's hope we make beautiful audio CDs from all this live material. thank you
his groove is so open.
Gedd super.
Gadd's on top form cos of that wow girl!

Yes, i totally agree. Watching him play reminds me of that old saying " fills are for show, the pockets for dough".
I put this through logicpro, and his playing is on the grid so perfectly... so dope.
Oh great!! Good to know :)

Master
So fluid.
Wow Steve Gadd
Never really changed his set up. Always Yamaha......k cymbals.....and that hanging floortom.....love it
wow..great...more?
Nice 👍
Gadd is a genius!
That's about the funkiest loudest swung jazz drumming ever.
still solid interesting bass and Ride contrast forsue.
Mr Steve Groove
Look how far his bass drum beater comes back. Almost hits his foot!
no, you look :)
..excellent drumming as ever..since decades he is accomplishing my life as a professional percussionist... but I am a little concermed about his skinny arms on this latest video...
I hope, he is doing well...and that is only the camera perpective
..!
Gadd is getting thinner as he is ageing. Peter Erskine is getting huge by weight. Both are still great drummers and nice human beings.
Once ya know the subdivisions timing wise? You can just fly. Just gotta have the right feel and instrument sounds.
It’s in 4/4 🤔

71. seventy fucking one. ok?? as relevant as ever. not a single step lost!
Me dad says: your mom loves the drums played by Steve... Me too!
Great footage. Any more from this angle?
unfortunately not
What song is this?
3:35 cowbell
Only Gadd can pull off playing jazz with a ride that freaking dry.
Great angle! How did you get back there? I have been to the Blue Note many times. You had to be back stage. I am pissed at myself for missing this.
I figured they'd sell out. Did you see the show with Weckl?
John Elfrank-Dana - I couldn't get any tickets for the shows. RTF with Lenny White was sold out too!! I was pissed to say the least!! But that's New York for ya!! The best players on the planet gravitate to that ground and the people come out to hear and see it!!

this is a table behind the drummer. all other drummers were behind this table :)
tix were $80
8:33 :)
anyone know the name of the tune?
It' s from "Three Quartets" . This is the tune dedicated to John Coltrane.
Right - "Quartet No. 2, Part 2"
Please tell me this is in odd time. Because shit, I can hardly follow a second of this and I'm a well trained drummer.
I actually think it's in 3/4.
It´s 4/4 man, hahaha....
Ah. I feel it now. It's just hard to find the 1. He's really playing over the bar lines here.
Um, yeah, he's the boss
What is he sitting on???
Custom made chair, may be ;)
What, no feathering?
feathering is for boppers :)
What's this song's name?
秋元拓海 it's from the 3 quartets album
DeckerCreek Thank you very much: )
i always though....he came off the head with the bass drum...
Who's that blonde?
That Blond? Gadd knows :)
real drummer don't care about sound.... it's Steve Gadd playing.... always learning ...
I agree :)
,,,,,too easy to polarize.....real drummer care about BOTH sound and playing....believe me ....Gadd covers both
I can't watch greatness when I gave up for a white picket fence. My bad.
how bad does it get
Steve is so technically superior it ain't even funny!!! But all anybody can do it laugh!!!
man that girl in the front is hot she must be with her bf hahahaha
Gadd is a legend... Weckl is better.
it doesn't matter, this is not a race
Better is subjective. If Weckl was better at everything, he would be stealing Gadd's studio and touring gigs. That ain't happening...sooo.
If those are the "New" Yamaha recording customs they sound fucking horrrible!!!!!
I am not sure what they were, but they had yamaha heads on them :)

obviously not a jazz fan
