@@sonomaskio7874 that's because those good old chops are all this master needs to make a perfect solo, with all the aspects of groove, feel and telling a musical story that makes sense and is to the point. It shows that he's creative, because his solo's are from the heart and in the moment, even if he only uses the same signature licks (which are many btw.) Your comment shows that we've forgotten what it's all about. Gadd's playing reminds us that making music is not an athletic sport, but it's telling a story and moving people.
Mr Friendly...Respectfully, I don’t need to hear your opinion & lecture. You can rant about Gadd all day if you want, I’ve heard it all before!! I think your missing the point (which l’m not going to repeat) I haven’t forgotten anything,Btw! I know Gadd’s contribution to the music “FIRST” & then to the INSTRUMENT!! I noticed that your perspective about him is a biased one!!! My angle is a subjective one!! SO, you can carry on admiring Steve Gadd!! Ohh! and BTW!...pls continue to be delighted by hearing the same ol’ story in his playing!!!!!
@@sonomaskio7874 That something called "style", or "personal sound", which I'm not sure you'll have 50 years from now - at least one that's still relevant.
I went on 9/29, early show, and managed to sit 18 inches from Gadd's HiHat. It was so amazing. I brought my 11 year-old with me and Gadd was so nice to him. A most memorable father/son night out.
wow.. what a angle for the video.. its a drummers dream come true to watch the GROOVE KING ... w chick and all these great musicians... thanks for posting this up....
Steve is playing so ... delicate ... groovy ... supportive ...nobody can do it like him. There are lots of drummers with a drumset twice as big, but Steve brings out so many colours. His cooperation with the percussionist is mindblowing. Always a miracle. 🥰🙏
Always so special to come across these videos of MR.Gadd playing.Everything he played on was truly a work of passion.I especially loved what he did with steely Dan, and Paul Simon. You just know when he was the drummer on the record. One of the greatest of all times.!!! When I think of drumming and the true legends of the instrument He's at the top of the list.
I had the pleasure of hearing and meeting Mr Gadd in clinic recently (Auckland, New Zealand. Nov. 2018). He played beautifully of course and was so helpful in answering questions and demonstrating. A true Sharman of the drums.
Isn't it great to see such super seasoned musicians still have so much fun after all these years? And they aren't half naked or making suggestive moves or jumping around like idiots or playing so loud you can't stand it. I LOVE JAZZ MUSICIANS. Bless you all.
He's a lot less fiery than in the old days, but his smoothness and economy of motion are superb. I saw him a couple weeks ago and he did a great job of highlighting the amazing younger guys in the band (Lionel and Carlitos especially). Gadd's solos are pretty rote these days, usually consisting of his greatest hits licks (including the Asia tom fills), but he has nothing at all to prove. You want to see astonishing drum solos, there are countless young players like Marcus Gilmore and Eric Harland who will more than satisfy. Gadd is about groove and comfort, getting the job done and making everybody in the band sound great.
i like the way Gadd solos now. the idea of density and quantity of notes needs to end as a measuring stick. its feel and idea . the younger drummers are developing this. Gadd is now showing how its done. did you see how he navigated those band figures.amazing. the listener might take that for granted.
So well said. Gadd has always had "musical taste", in spades. And you're exactly right about the rote nature of his solos in his later years, but it's like listening to Heifitz or any other great musician go with the pieces and highlights that s/he has been playing for years; the ones that set them apart. It's like enjoying a well-aged vintage wine. Solid, dependable, and GREAT!
The MAN never misses a ghost note !!! You can only get there by being Steve Gadd for 70+ years. No other way Sorry folks … You can try ?!? … but let’s be real now

You always hear the 'music' in a Gadd solo...still the most 'musical' drummer out there since the 70's.....long live the king!
athomp2006 ...And!!! ....you hear the same ole redundant, repetitive
bag of licks in every solo...It’s so
fucking tiring to hear since 1970!!!!

Steve would do anything for somebody if he weren’t one of them the busiest musicians in the world
I was just watching this thinking, man I wouldn't want to be sitting 3 feet from his hi-hat??! 😂
Or would I? 🤔
So musical, is Gadd... No matter what drummer I listen to, I always come back to his natural groove... There is no other like him.
Yes, his style of play is unique and impossible to not notice.
This is what makes a master drummer. His feel, dynamics, an sense of the musical pulse are just second to none. There's only one Steve Gadd.

Watching this video, I kept saying to myself "how heavenly I would feel if I played a music with Gadd", because the groove he provided was so amazing.

The musicality and touch are still unmatched thank you for this post 👍
Love Gadd! I could watch him play quarter notes on just the hi hat and be blown away by his feel. DC
Corea no puede con su genio, se entromete en todos lados!
so anoying
Inducted into the drummer Hall of fame, because Steve is one fantastic drummer.
Always perfect, zero mistakes ...100% present. STEVE GADD
Man That Grip!!! Those sticks just seem to float in his hands!
He's letting the sticks do the work- a true master.
Incredible. It´s effortless, smooth and full of love for the music. Only one guy can do that : Gadd.
All about the feel and groove Steve Gadd, the master, fills my ears and soul with happyness.
Great band. Gadd is still amazing!! One of a kind!
Siempre es hermoso ver y escuhar a Gadd
simply wonderful !
A master at work, thanks!
This guy is still going strong since 1968
Great drummer our steve...enjoy very much..
Love the way the band come over to watch. Class..
Amazing solo loved the floor tom stuff too!
Awesome drumming, his paradiddles are one of a kind.
God, the simple little changes and feel. Corea and Gadd are gold. The leprechaun is a Masterpiece. Love these guys!
You had the best seat in the house!
Steve is so laid back it almost defies belief.
That is surely the mark of a master.
let's hope we make beautiful audio CDs from all this live material. thank you
Brilliant stuff. You couldn’t ask for a better angle. Everyone is enjoying themselves, which shows in the music.
Very good
the trademark cowbell lick Gadd plays is unreal.
so musicale and beautiful to listen to!
Very nice improvisation at the end of that solo sweet! ......
I love his Ride Cymbal. 👍
Great angle my friend!
Gadd’s drum work sounds more violent than it looks. He’s so efficient. His drumming on Lenore from The Leprechaun is the best I have ever heard.
This is my seventh time here. Hooked on this tune. Mainly because of Mr. gadd.
This is awesome!
Como toca este hombre Dios mío!!!,thanks Mr. Gadd
Good Gadd!!! Man, he is astoundingly good.
Haha noice!
What touch feel timing grove he has it all.
super mega hyper genial.. Gadd is it so amazing
Master (s) in action. Talk about groove and action...

Will stick with Steve.
Yes well said, Gary Novak is up there too.

Night streets, its stil my favorite song from Chick fucking awesome i listened it a million times probably
Old cat still got the groove, ideas and music. That 16ths on the hat, damn, lets go dancing!!!
Fantastic !!
This tune is called Night Streets. Originally on My Spanish Heart. Amazing song and outstanding Gadd solo.

Actually Chick can play drums quite well!
@@pavelstumpf4783 - Ohhh, I am well aware of Chick's druming prowess. He plays good vibes, too.
It's the cowbell....
:D :D
Disappointed Gadd didn’t launch a stick a knock that cowbell outta his hand!
Still playing his ass off!
Steve Gadd’s right foot technique is insane!
The MAN never misses a ghost note !!! You can only get there by being Steve Gadd for 70+ years.
No other way
Sorry folks …
You can try ?!? …
but let’s be real now
... and even more amazing / funny, there's a Berkelee guy somewhere saying "I can do that better than him, he's not so great".
Yeah, funny ... I don't believe this guy.
Note Berklee gave Mr. Gadd an honorary Dr. Degree…..Vinnie played in it…
How many drummers does it take to screw in a light bulb?...1..and the 100 others standing around sayung.."meh..i can do that"
10:25 Almost thought Chick was gonna go Will Ferrell on us.
Monsters ! Great Time !
Great Musicianship!!!!
Hermoso grandiosa fusion ! quien fuera Steve Gadd y no un alejandro llanas tocando huapangos
Damn dood. Did Steve even break a sweat? Not that I could tell. Hell. Even Chick Corea got up to watch Steve groove his solo and play cowbell.
Steve is Gadd!
So good
FLAVORrrrrr!!!!
7:30 the moment when your companions get impressed by the way of you dialogue with the solist 😍
nite sprite !!!!! my fave song .....
Actually this is Night Streets from My Spanish Heart. But this band also played an excellent version of Nite Sprite, also available on You Tube.

Great drummer . for me the best all round drummer, and ive been playing for 40 years .
Gadd teaches a master class in what it means to “lift the bandstand”
Steve,jesteś największy !!!
