CALDERAZZO / PATITUCCI / WECKL | recorded live in Berlin
Joey Calderazzo is one of the best and most appreciated pianists of today. He has achieved the rare feat of going through a unique development in his career: From child prodigy to booked-out session musician to the absolute elite of the jazz world. Calderazzo began playing classical piano at the age of 8 and took his first jazz piano lessons at the age of 14. Not long after, he played at his first jam sessions and rapidly made a name for himself. At the end of the 80s, saxophone superstar Michael Brecker discovered the young pianist and brought him into his band. Brecker also produced Calderazzo's first album, which was released on Blue Note Records in 1990. From then on, a remarkable career took its course, in which the virtuoso pianist played his way into the highest spheres of the jazz world. He has worked with Pat Metheny, Kurt Elling, John Pattitucci, Jack DeJohnette, Peter Erskine, Jerry Bergonzi, Adam Nussbaum; the list goes on and on. Since 1998 he has also been a permanent member of the quartet of saxophone visionary Branford Marsalis, with whom he has received several Grammy nominations.
John Patitucci is already one of the greatest bassists in jazz history. Born in New York, the electric and double bass player studied on the other side of the American continent and attracted attention very early on. He has been a fixture on the scene since the 1980s and has since played with the biggest names in the jazz world: He was a member of Chick Corea's bands for years, played with Herbie Hancock, Michael Brecker, Roy Haynes, Branford Marsalis, Chris Potter, Brad Mehldau, Horacio Hernandez, Gary Burton, Vinnie Colaiuta, Adam Rogers and countless more. In recent years, one of his most important stations has been the quartet around the recently deceased Wayne Shorter, together with Danilo Perez and Brian Blade, which is now one of the most important bands in jazz history. He has been honored countless times by various institutions and magazines as best bassist, has won three Grammy awards and has been nominated more than 15 times.
Dave Weckl is an American jazz and fusion drummer who is one of the most influential and best in his field. He studied at the infamous Berklee College of Music and was already a highly sought-after studio and tour musician in his early 20s, playing with acts such as Simon & Garfunkel, George Benson and Diana Ross. Arriving in the New York jazz and fusion world of the 1980s, he began to establish himself as a permanent fixture, playing with Michael Brecker, Mike Stern, Steve Khan and eventually becoming part of Chick Corea's Elektric Band. In 1989 he was part of the legendary Buddy Rich Memorial Concert, where he competed with Vinnie Colaiuta and Steve Gadd in the musical triell. In the 1990s, Weckl finally began to work solo and has since inspired thousands of fans and young drummers.

I am loving the experimental sound upfront. Looking forward to hearing a record with this trio.
I'm so inspired by John Patitucci . From his youthful days as a member of the elektric band and as a soloist, his evolution into the bass player he is today is without pretense. No bravado, or arrogance, just an assured and relaxed master of the bass instrument who enjoys what he does so well... make music.
These guys need to release an album. They need to do this again. I'd fly anywhere to watch them. Patitucci, Calderazzo, and Weckl - this is new jazz trio music. Just awesome! Thank you for uploading!
Can’t agree more!! Just this recording can be released as an album! Incredible
Weckl is the greatest to EVER sit behind a kit.
His playing...it transcends drumming, its *poetry*.
yes! we need of this music! too important that so wonderful musicians continue to show and play their music around the world. Thanks!
@@fabbux thank you for staying with us! We do that for you 🙏😎
dead right
Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Very fortunate to see Joey C in one of his earliest performances with the late great Michael Brecker in Harrisburg, PA USA around '89/'90. Blown away by the talent this young kid demonstated! Also fortunate to catch both John P and Dave W in two separate, very intimate concerts, again in Harrisburg, PA. Very dynamic jazz scene here! Cheers!
@@ToddKrill wow, really great experience! 😎
Saw Joey 4 times with Michael Brecker in 1987 in France
Joey stole the show each time
It was incredible and the audience was hysterical
Oh I might have seen one of those on RUclips did they play upside downside ?
@@tunaficiency I’m afraid the only authorised thing on RUclips you could see in Berlin on that time is this channel 😎
Wow..... I'm watching Dave smiling.....rare. However, great performance. Thank you
Stay tuned 😎
That rhythm section never looses strength... Dave and John are music bros and still sound like a fkn fist! Joey C, flawless as usual also. Badassssss!
FANTASTIC, great musicianship, loved it, Thank you.
So good to see these cats keeping it fresh ❤
3 of the greatest to ever do it!
patitutti ottimo !!
Visti dal vivo in Italia, grandissimo spettacolo.
This is a good one!
Beeindruckend.
Great musiscians! fresh interpretaions, i really enjoy it.Thanks guys

phenomenal playing...going from acoustic to electric format was extremely tasteful...John and Dave are my go to's period in music from Chick& Elekric Band...nobody plays that 6 string like John...by the way that's a pretty bass!...Dave has to be World's best drummer period...when I heard Tale of Daring drum wise I was through! keyboards awesome...
Dave is the "new age."..
"Buddy Rich"...

Wholesome and Nutricious ☕🎸
11:30 Joey having a “Keith Jarrett”-like moment 😂😂😂
What does Joey say?
@@rightchordleadership “I can hear you from here … God you’re too loud”.
Yeah, he doesn't care. Lol
"The oracle" is a beautiful piece, however I prefer the version on his self-titled album with acoustic piano and Jeff tain on drums, the final cadence is spectacular and his outside playing is outstanding. Thanks for the upload
Ok this is fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Pink Floyd at min 13.00 😍😁🎵
Woooow, specially electric part....❤
masters
Such a great bass solo at 16:53
Tremendo trio de lujo.Joey es un reputado pianista menos valorado ni conocido, gran sonido.
💥👏👏👏👍👍👍💥
I am a fan of this lineup! Potential for a new Elektric Band???
❤️🙏
Wow, this is great. Does anyone know the setlist/song names?
👍👊
Wow! Chick's sidemen without Chick himself (R.i.P.) but a replacement Chick would accept, I believe. Thanks for this upload!
He was a sideman too, for Brecker( Mike)
👍👌
Free jazz é outro nível
No copyright strike? Strange!
Great job!

Anyone can add tunes names please?
is Weckl using Artisan Ride cymbal here? It seems to me so
Legacy playing... only this time it is not in black and white.. :)

Chick ? è un tributo a Chick ? ...OK...😉
What is the name of the first song?
