I was talking to some record producer in a bar 20 yrs ago and was describing what kind of music I liked. He handed me a CD and put me onto Kurt. Need I say more?
The Next Step blew up my whole musical world, this reunion brings back so many memories. I think when I saw this ensemble live back in 2001(?) Kurt was still playing his 335 (with which he recorded the album, I guess). It would've been really nice to see him playing that guitar again. Mark Turner is really kicking ass in this performance, he's so unpredictable yet so unique and recognizable. They're stellar players and we're witnessing top level modern jazz here, of course, but back then you could feel they spent a lot of time playing together, their performances were transcendent, so much energy put into every note.
I spent years always saying "yyeeeeeeeaaaaahhhh" every time I've heard this song because of the fury in Kurt's playing... What a band, what a bunch of great incredible musicians!!! They literally MADE jazz history from mid 90s till mid 2010s. "The Remedy" an amazing album... Kurt is truly the best guitarist of his generation, period. He has this sound always in between the edge of the amp breakup and yet clean, so warm and his playing is so fluid... Love love love!
Discovered a new world when I picked up the "Heartcore" album, purely based on a gut feeling. The title track was, and is, a gateway to a parallel universe. The fluttering eyelids - entering a state of dream/trance? Would make a lot of sense.
@@hermanofaltz The story goes that he first wrote a lot of the album's songs in different tunings, and then had to figure out and write down what was happening... with the help of a chromatic tuner lol. Even more impressive is that he's improvising with these different tunings just like that.
I totally agree. The Pog2 allows him to emulate the Allan Holdsworth sound and a legato approach, but I much prefer his arch top with a little delay, as in this clip. Jonathan Kreisberg is another superb jazz guitarist who has an excellent tone on his ES175, but has added the Pog to his pedalboard - I’m not sure it’s a step in a positive direction.
Kurt is alright....but l personally prefer the tone and note choice of modern fusion players...HoldsworthGambale,Quayle,Stine,Gabel,Nieri,Renaud Louis and Richard Daude...just a matter of taste,mine..
Colour selection is disappointing and boring unlees you go Sport. (🔵) Not sure if the bronze and orangy are still available in higher spec. Would go V6.
fantastic...music, musicians....and the Sound of the Guitar...great
Gentlemen, we have now entered the post hat era and Kurt plays better than ever!
Hahaha…first thing I noticed…oh…and also is sublime playing
This is my favorite Kurt band. They changed my vision of what music could be.
A great sculpture of music bravo all for artistes❤❤❤❤
The Detonator: Jeff Ballard!😁💥
Trop trop super

So very very happy to hear his guitar sounding like a guitar again. Never really dug the pog that made it sound like a pan-flute.
What a monster!
Absolutely amazing!
Young lions became our legend today.
Holy shit Kurt enters a zone only few have accessed. Unreal focus
My Dream Band!! Thanks to be back!!
Hear the sound of Kurt’s pick again surprises me 😂
Sublime to hear these folks together again.
Somehow the first time I've watched the 2006 video changed my life. It's so refreshing watching this quintessential version 18 years later.
I played in a band with Kurt back in high school.

Kurt is a once in a generation player and composer who has truly created his own language of jazz- great playing all around 👏
❤
Mark Turner playing like a man possessed. Insane.
As much as i enjoy Kurt here, he's absolutely superb, he is even trumped by Turner, in my opinion.
great to hear these cats play together again (and Kurt’s pick sound)
This is what modern jazz sounds like. It's about time !
I just discovered Kurt's jazz guitar and am finding it mesmerizing.
THE CHORDS!
I love that 2001 Kurt sound

Aaaaand...don't sleep on the high intellect, deep booty viscosity of Street and Ballard! Lift-off!😎😉
Love Kurt's sound on this one!
So sublime he's undefinable.
I've never seen him without a hat
guitar tunning for Kurt 6ºBb 5ºG 4ºDb 3ºAb 2ºBb 1ºEb WTF!!!
i thought that was Eb....
Really?😮😮😮😮
perfect for playing with tenor sax (Bb instruments) I suppose?

Pure Genius! What a trip they’re taking us on!
First time i heard him around 20 years ago, he impressed me so much!
Wow. Great capture and recording. Well done putting this together!
Omg Yes!!! Unreal...❤ 💯 Get it!
So good to hear those 2 pieces in a small combo format. Loved them with the larger bands but this is just as enjoyable.
Nice. He got his old Dangelico out.

Awesome video!
Great recording .... every one sounding great
INSANE !
Man, Kurt's tone is always good, but in this mix, it's incredible
I love that he's not using that thing that kills the attack and makes the guitar sound like a dull keyboard.
bravo bravo
He plays a D'angelico made by Terada Musical Instruments in Japan .
Equilibrio extraordinario
17:47 that smooth pull on
Awesome footage, what type of camera did you use ?
Thanks
and the sound was perfect!!!!
The Wink Blinks alot!
Weird tic
Ya is he ok?
Mark Turner?
Where's Pete Koplan?
Kurt is the best without POG2.

True. The sound of his clean guitar is sort of a miracle. So profound and warm.
What kind of amp head is that?
Awesome, the audio is a bit too compressed though.
