Watch Dave Holland, Jaleel Shaw, Kris Davis, & Nasheet Waits perform live at the SFJAZZ Center: www.sfjazz.org/athome/on-demand/dave-holland-new-quartet/
Had the good fortune to see Miles Davis Quintet at the Plugged Nickel in Chicago with Dave Holland and Tony Williams. This was 1968 I think there about. Killer set.
Just Wonderfull - I have used KONNAKOL for years as a guitar player and singer. But there are some great ideas here from a bass master that inspires me
Sometime in the 1970s I attended a couple of weeks of workshops at an old monestary at Mt Tremper, NY w Karl Berger, Dan Cherry, David Izenson, and others. We were taught the gamala taki way of counting. We learned it by sitting (crossed legged, mostly) and alternate tapping our knees. Spent hours learning more and more complex patterns, all gamala taki. Like doing a half hour of 21. It was magical of course. I still think gamala taki combinations in many rhythmic contexts.
hey guysss!. Why is your energy so low? :) Before you stands the most gentlemanly and energetic figure in the history of music!. very good. Let's raise our energy a little more together! wow!

I wish I could say the same. Mile's unit at that time was fantastic.
You must be really old

Love it how he reminds them to relax their body. It's so easy to tense up when dealing with challenging mental stuff
Fantastic!!! Dave is an amazing player and an easy educator. What a human!
One of the great Jazz Masters! Humble and monstrous on that bass!!
Dave Holland is a true giant, and it's nice to see he's just a nice & normal guy.
Thank you, Maestro!!

Mars from The Planets is a good example of a piece that includes both the long 5 and its subdivision into 2+3 and 3+2.
Such a breeze 🎉
yeah cool lesson.-)
Tnx
I’ve loved Dave’s playing on Kevin Eubanks’ albums for years. I can’t figure out the time signatures for the life of me. I just go by their phrases.
Interesting upright. Wonder what it is?
Go bills!
👍

LOL maybe they're a bit intimidated by Holland's greatness
I’d imagine there was a bit of lthis is being recorded” dos & donts, production and editing.
Dave’s not much of a genius is he?! Ha! Amazing.
"Don't always believe the Real Book" advice is on par with the rhythm advice.
