- I'm testing out moving away from meticulously weighing and tracking all of my food through Cronometer. In this vlog, I share why I'm making this transition, what I'm doing to hopefully make it successful, and how it goes.

Dangerous pseudoscience
Food tracking would be such a Gigantic trigger for my past eating disorder this is so real
Same. Keto almost divorced me from the joy of eating. I ended up eating intuitively and that’s a low/no processed mainly plant based lean protein diet with LOTS of fruit. All the turkey bacon and cheese will never give me the thrill of a big bowl of crunchy green grapes, or a tomato basil salad.
I love your story and very much appreciate you sharing it with the world!!!
Dr Ken!!!
As a viewer for a while and having a family member with schizophrenia, this is remarkable to witness. You are pioneers. One day I hope this will help so many others.
I did notice some blinking. Not much but some. So proud of you both and how joyful this must feel. I wish much continued success.❤
Agree ❤ Thanks for sharing
Thanks for this! So nice to see you more at ease and enjoying your family…love the smiles!!
Let the poor girl blink! I think some people are only aware of her blinking habits because someone scrutinized her over it, and now she's self conscious about it and addresses it, too. I think she has gorgeous eyes, so I'm paying attention to her eyes, and I personally do not notice any abnormal blinking. There is dust in the air, and it's not all spread out equally. Eventually, eyes are going to blink more than normal, and this is normal, not unusual. Sorry, I'm very protective of people in the public eye when it comes to others pointing out their facial quirks because I have a twitch, and people point out mine, too, and then I become extra aware and now I just try to have wednesday adam's face, and so people berate me for that, too! I don't mean to go off on you, specifically because you obviously support her and are not saying it negatively, at all, and you're even being helpful. I just think sometimes facial quirks are what make people unique! Either way, God Bless, and again, I hope you don't think I'm attacking you, kind person on the internet who I've never spoken to.
@@dhsarah570 No problem. One of the most important things you remembered was, I completely support her and her family. I might add, there ain’t nothing “poor girl” about Lauren. She is an absolute warrior!
Ok im going to give it a try! I can barely get out of bed at the moment, this is not the life I want.
I'm so so happy to see how well you seem to be doing! Everyone deserves this!
In my view it is such an important work you do here. Just to share your Keto-Journey with those millions of people out there, fighting with similar illnesses day by day!!! Its time for a Revolution!
I haven't watched since you started the keto diet and the change in your cadence and the seriously sweet smiles in your face is absolutely amazing. I'm so glad this is working for you.
Hey Lauren! Thank you for sharing this. It’s great to be mindful enough to see that something like measuring and tracking is no longer serving as healthy of a purpose as it previously was.
When I went treatment for an eating disorder, they initially had us measure our food when preparing it. But after a few weeks, the goal was to have us eyeball portions, trust ourselves, and adjust if needed. It was empowering. And if you ever want to measure something as a refresher, there’s nothing wrong with it as long as it doesn’t become a habit. Weighing and tracking my food and exercise never ends well for me personally, but different strokes for different folks. Truly.
From my eyes as a weightlifter, you don’t look thin - you look trim and toned, more muscle. And you have a glow about you that’s lovely. I’m glad you’re being mindful of your needs as an individual and are honoring those needs.
And thank you for sharing some moments with your sweet son. Living with MI doesn’t automatically disqualify us from wonderful life experiences and relationships, and it’s always refreshing to see some “normalcy” (I hate that word, but I’ll use it) in families.
Congratulations to you making a choice that works for you and congratulations to your dad as well!
You're amazing ❤ thank you for sharing everything not just this video but everything on your channel it helps so much to us who have someone we love and need to understand and know how to behave. For all this I'm so grateful to you and I wish you the best ❤
I saw the title and went "oh no, ohhh what if she gets hurt, aaaa" and then I watched and I was like "apparently she's fine, she's got it all under control -- look at that cute couple, (sigh of relief), happy for them ..."
I’m proud of you for continuing recovery and awareness of your eating disorder journey. This is only my second comment on ANY RUclips video and I’m 54. I’m also on an ED recovery journey & neurodivergent. You don’t need a degree imho. You help more people than any licensed social worker could ever do. Keep up your essential work- and schedule in self care no media days ❤️
That's cool! (ur 2nd ever comment) Btw, if that's u in your pfp, u look amazing ❤
Thank you for what you do. You are helping more people than you will ever know.
This is such a helpful project. I do hope many many are helped and encouraged by all this information. ❤
Awesome! Congrats to your 3 generations: from big boy bed to fly boy's welcome! We're all a work in progress. Stay strong and keep crawling, walking or running!❤
Continuous Glucose Monitors measure the glucose in your interstitial fluid (the fluid in your cells) rather than in your blood. If the Continuous Ketone Monitor is the same, that could explain the difference between the finger stick and the continuous monitor.
As always, thanks for the content. I'm benefitting so much from your videos!
I appreciate your honesty and willingness to continue evolving in your approach to managing your health.
I loved how you surprised your dad. Get well soon🤗🤗
I just knocked out of keto and boy has it been a big hit on me. Alot of unfelt negative emotions are arising. I hope I adapt alot faster back into ketosis this time.
It's always enjoyable watching you guys.
So adorable. I love the way your family interacts with each other
keto mojo test strips only last for up to a year after purchase. I wondered because my type 2 diabetes test strips expire pretty fast. Just thought I'd let you know because you might start getting odd readings after 3 months. Happened to me. You're doing great and it's inspiring 😀Feel better!
You have baby now no way congrats…
Very happy for you..!!!!
Your son is hilarious 😂, showing off his food and Dino to the camera!
LOVED this video. You’re doing great and the family are gorgeous
Thank you so much for letting us know how it’s going. I did keto years ago. Love you guys. California Joanna
1. It was so cute when you played with your baby
2. Rob looks really handsome
I haven't checked in with the channel for a while. Used to be a regular watcher when you were pregnant but then got distracted with other stuff and didn't watch youtube so much. It blew my mind to see how big the kid has gotten WTF? its awesome to see you in your daily life living good with your family.
God bless you. I truly understand. ❤
I eat macadamia nuts a lot. I’m glad you enjoy them too Lauren.
I also heard the Bluey theme song in the background of a video clip. My nephews use to watch Bluey, and I loved it. They are a little old for Bluey now. Oh well…
Good luck not tracking!
Thanks for sharing your meals it's a good source of inspiration.
I love your relationship with your baby! We also watch Bluey all day!
Hi Michele!! Congratulations, Ken!! ❤🇨🇦
I love your vlog style content :)
Thank you for showing us how the cbgm works! I felt your pain.
So amazing and wonderful this has been a success. I suffer from seasonal affective disorder and I plan to try keto this fall when it kicks in again. Sunlamps, walking, vit D all take the edge off but I still suffer from intrusuve thoughts from october to january. Fingers crossed!
RN here 😊 totally normal and expected for your blood sugar to be slightly higher when sick
I relate so much to your desire to run while still being sick/coughing, bc two weeks is so long! I felt for your coughing as I've been there many times, hacking out my lungs after a light run lolololol
Laura you're very practical I am on dieting before you but I don't get to point which to measure my ketones. I measured my weight sometimes on a daily basis so whatever it added one to me. I would like to thank you for appreciating videos you share really I loved it ❤
As someone who has the same diagnosis schizoaffective your videos have been very helpful like the one that talked about what type of antipsychotic I should be on. Im talking about the video with dr. Marks. And then now u are on the keto diet. I thought about going on the keto diet for my illness, but decide to do a sugar free and wheat free diet and after being on it a month I feel better. Your videos are very interesting and informative keep them coming please. Good luck with not tracking the food u eat while still being on a keto diet! I wouldn’t mind meeting u someday.
Try peeled/able alkaline fruit only?
Good Lauren it is hard when we have a Eating Disorder I do and if I could safely do Keto I would try but I simple can't afford the scaled down diet. Happy you are having success . Blessings to your Family
Hi Lauren! It's true, I have observed the same. The ketones levels readings on the continuous monitor, decrease with time, and I think that not in a linear way, they are lower and lower and lower till you implant the next continuous monitor, and then instantly rise . It's a pity
YES, good for you for remembering and bringing up the 'PHAT' moment, where Rob weirdly sensualized the acronym, where it's more KNOWN in reality as a clothing brand -- not a p***-brained term. You're amazing Lauren, all my love and prayers for you and your children.
So proud of you for following your food intake intuitively instead of weighing/measuring everything! YOU made the right choice for you Lauren. Intuitive living is THE WAY to health and happiness!
Keto/Banting changed my life - my mind is firing on all cylinders and I feel alive!
Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy your videos 🩷
3:39 I've stopped early to thank you again for your level of transparency. If u ever wonder if you're truly helping people? I don't hv schizophrenia (😮) but I'm asking my psychologist tomorrow abt his thoughts on this type of diet to treat my own uber-fun diagnoses🙄. (😂 if ya can't laugh at yourself). 👍 Appreciate your honesty about the new tech, too.🎯 So, maybe I'll finish the video now...😉 - just me in Palm Springs 🌴
I am watching 😂this in inintervals...beautiful family😢😊
You been gassy lol😂
Teddy is adorable. ❤❤❤
I'm very impressed with your channel and your family. I would struggle to have a family with my mental health challenges.
Me too it’s hard not to hate myself watching it to be honest
I so felt your puncture of the arm, ( just been in hospital for a week with diabetic condition and having my finger pricked all the time for blood sugar tests ) aawwwwwwwwwuooooooh !!!!
That is such a smart move that you made to stop doing macros like that. I wish you continued success. I also started having lower ketones recently and was quite concerned - Nicole told me the same thing so now I miss higher ketone levels just for kicks and thinking they were for the best lol. The CGM tracking you and Rob's ketones during activities was so neat! And I liked how you showed your ketones a lot. I also listened to Taylor Swift's new album (though not uncommon lol) and read Ede's book recently. Cute personal moments too! I don't recall - I believe you're down to 40mg Latuda - any side effects? How's sleep?
Hope that this works better for you!
Thanks!
Great video
Keto mojo is live in Canada now!
The moment when you really experience that you have created yourself being whatever way you are, at that same moment you will never have to be that way again. -Werner Erhard est
You are a Swifty - niiice❣
The key to success on keto, long term, is heuristics and patterns.
You pay close attention to your mind and body, when things feel off (because you will stray) there should be meals that you know you can rely on to kick you back into ketosis, and you stick with that meal plan for 4 days. That's a "magic" number of days with the small intestines, btw. While on your rigid diet for 4 days, you thoughtfully review (in your head, no need for record keeping) what you ate and see if you can figure out what messed things up. Then, on day 5, do your best to resume "normal" life using what you've learned.
I've been on a ketogenic diet for years, and my girlfriend is figuring it out--and like you, the cost of a mistake is high for her (and nearly everyone within arms reach). She goofed a couple of days ago, allowing an exception in the late morning, went into an episode at 2 AM the following morning and was in the hospital for four days (there it is again) after getting back into ketosis. Turns out, you can't buy the cheapest full fat creamer for coffee.
Actually, cortisol levels increase when you are sick and cortisol is known to increase blood glucose levels. Infections are a very common hyperglycemia trigger in people with diabetes, but it also increases glucose in nondiabetic patients.
i bet the pricker thing causes a lot of anticipation lol i looks scary
Suppr happy for you!
Congrats
Lauren I've been sick to and don't do keto but have had more surgery things and think isn't so great but that's okay for now
If her run was a jog then I must be crawling 😭😭😂
Tomato is good with beef. I like fried mushrooms a lot. It's good you are not eating out as I believe food additives effect some people more than others, and definitely are unhealthy for everyone. I still have doubts on long term keto since I don't understand the science. Eating food you make has to be a responsible and wise choice - and not an easy choice nowadays!
Our sugar/glucose rises when we are sick. I’m diabetic. That’s how I know.
A little nutrient tip I've picked up for chapped lips - it can be a sign of B vitamin (esp 1+2) deficiency. On a keto diet grains aren't consumed and that's a big source of those vitamins so a supplement helps fill that gap.
Hi, great channel, I've been low carb to now keto/carnivorish for 6 years. I counted carb grams up 50 grams, then I just avoided carbs to avoid counting. Carbs do sneak in, especially when you assume you know a food's carb content. But experience teaches and you get better and better without counting. The more fat I eat, the less carb cravings I experience. Also, the more fat I consume, the higher my blood ketones ( I monitored for daily for 1 year during the lean mass hyperresponder study). When I took a gram of Carnitine that also boosted my ketones from my 0.8 average to 2.0 to 3.0.
Was this L carnitine?
Wishing you success. Can you speak to your mood, energy, mental clarity? Also for fun put a count of how many times you say keto. :)
Hi! I have BPD and my Dr says I have syntomps of schizophrenia, I haven't ask him about this but I think he might refer to small psychotic episodes and stuff, which makes me think does he refear to the DSM5 diagnosis on : Unspecified Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorder, if you could talk about that could be really helpful!!
My extra treatment is antioxidants R2 pharmanex or resveratrol, vitamin C-histidine, D 300, Zinc! That’s all!
I think the reason your ketone go down with exercise is that your liver is releasing stored sugar from the liver for energy. So your body is using that for energy in preference to ketone.
Yeah glycogen is stored sugar in the liver and will get turned into glucose with exercise.
💚
❤
Lauren, what do you think of the Lumen breath monitor? Have you tried that one yet?
In their review ("TESTED: Ketone Monitor Ultimate Comparison 2024") they mentioned just the Biosense one.
It seems a doable diet for a more healthy individual who can discipline themselves. My daughter won’t listen, conform etc , so unfortunately she is not well enough for this. Many suffering acute symptoms would not be willing or able to follow such a diet so it’s not the solution unless hospitalized and forced to follow the diet.
You may have already been improved with your symptoms even before the dietary changes as you were and are able to undertake this.
Yes, she did say she was in a very stable situation in her life & with her illness, and therefore starting from a pretty high-functioning position to begin with... But I think if this truly works for more & more ppl, becoming more mainstream as a form of treatment, then ppl will view it differently and start taking it seriously even when they're not doing that well...
I think, for now, it's still mainly seen as a dietary fad rather than a serious potential treatment plan (unlike the dietary treatment for Diabetes, for example).
I'm amazed at your life Lauren. Are you still taking meds?
Watching the latest vids, I got she's still taking the antipsychotic meds, but at 40% from what she used to take at the start of the diet.
@@dyawr thank you!
@@CarolH2O Yw!
I take Eszopiclone (Lunesta), Benzotropine (Cogentin), Buspirone (Buspar) & Seroquel. I also get an every 3 months shot (Invega Trinza).
Curious why invega every 3 months? Did you ween off it slowly versus monthly?
Any info about your blood tests? Cholesterol and things of that nature. ❤
I think you have got a great idea, I don't think you need to start over all again, what positive aspects did you get from the ketogenic diet ? I am also a strong advocate that eating healthy food works.
From what I understood from their vids, some of the most important are the fact that she was able to reduce her antipsychotic medication by 60%, she has more energy and more mental clarity, no brain fog. Some symptoms of the disease that were still affecting her even with meds were depression & high sensitivity to stress, which have subsided as well. Thanks to the regular exercise, the diet also helped her lose some fat & gain muscle mass.
That's what I can remember. 🤔
I know you discussed how much you spend on foods. Have you discussed how much a keto coach costs? Or how much your supplements cost?
I think it would be a really good idea so people who are thinking about trying this are prepared.
I eat whatever I want, nothing after 18:00. For a bit of cholesterol and digesting carbs and sugars I drink histidine 500 mg. Amino acids
A couple of thoughts came to mind with a medical Ketosis diet and I wanted to know how you feel. A) Do you worry about the long term impact of the fats you eat. And whether this intake may lead to an increase risk of Atherosclerosis in the future?
B) did the keto diet cause you some initial weight loss?
Type 1 diabetic here that uses CGM everyday 🙋♀️ be careful of compression lows when you sleep. They’ll give you false readings. Gosh, I spend years without a CGM because they’re so expensige
I don't know how to do food tracking but don't know how to get the ratio right for each meal or whole day. Please suggest me a simplest way. Thanks
start with 2:1 fat to everything else, and keep carbs 5-10% max amount of calories for each meal. Keep carbs under 20 per day, so if you eat 3 meals probably 6-7 grams per meal.
Did you consider having different fares for your patients ?
I still have anhedonia but will do keto when im not anhedonic no more. Are you planning to do it for life?
Hello.. waiting will not always help. You should go for it, it will help you feel better.
I understand monitoring ketones. It would drive me crazy though to expect something to work for two weeks & have it only work 1 week. Manufacturer sgoyld state the truth and say it only works 1 week. Why lie?
Manufacturing costs are probably too high to sell the product cheaper, and it would seem too expensive for just 1 week of use I assume...
❤💥🙏
Thank u. Honest! Are u still using meds, too?
She is, but at 40% of what she used to, from what I understand.
Hi guys,
ROB, WHAT HAS CHANGED FOR YOU EATING THIS WAY???
Nice one, your kids a cutey
As a genuine question, how does ketosis affect psychosis? By my figuring, I cpukd afford to do keto on my budget (not with all they fancy equipment but hey). Idk, I'd do anything to be rid of the voices😅
For her, most symptoms of the disease have subsided from what I understood, esp compared to how it was before. But she is still on a small/moderate dose of antipsychotic...
@@dyawr i might actually try it...I really woukd do anything to be rid of or diminish my psychosis.
@@damnablethief That's cool, good luck!! But make sure u'r strict with it, like Lauren & Rob 👍👏
@@dyawr ya, I will def do my research first.
Do you know what the healthy range is for glucose levels
I think it's between 65 to 99 is the norm.
In other words you don't know maybe I should ask a doctor
re running and excercise in general, follow the advice of dr Mercola
Ted is so cute. California Joanna
Blood glucose is highly variable from hour to hour! Unless you have symptoms of diabetes and a doctor recommends it, I do not recommend ANYONE tracking their glucose level. It will just cause you unnecessary concerns. Check with your Dr!
