Darksiders is one of my favourite franchises, i absolutely love it. its a shame it just never connected... Darksiders 2 had such a massive ad campaign too so its not like they never tried. The audience just didnt seem to care. Its a miracle we ever got Darksiders 3. Its a shame we probably wont get that proper 4th game or team up with all Horsemen
Yeah it does suck that something just didn't click with this series for many people. I do hope we get a 4th but it's been awfully quite for a little too long now
I wouldn’t say never, Genesis was amazing. Vastly different with the isometric gameplay yeah but people generally praised it. Vigil Games isn’t gone after all and their staff got pulled into Nordic with expressed interests in Darksiders as a franchise.
@@MayorHairBear My guess is that THQ doesn't want Gunfire Games to make Darksiders 4 and are instead looking for a different studio to handle the 4th entry.
Darksiders 2 is massive snooze fest campaign. Darksiders was fine. I even 100% that game but there were few stupid achievements like riding the horse for certain distance. I had to connect a controller and use rubber band for horse to run in circles for like 15min. I don't know why they used such high number. Don't get me wrong in Darksiders 2 combat, characters, platforming and story is good but they killed the campaign by making it soooooooooooo fucking long. You get one item and then you need another, then you get another item and need another item yet again. Before receiving one of those items you need to press 3 buttons or find yet again 3 fucking items. I liked Death more then War because even if he is literally a Grimm reaper he would sacrifice himself for his family. This game already has DLC and Crucible. I have no idea why they made it so long and any small obstacle needs 3 items or 3 buttons.
@@grimoireweiss5203 Was it really that long? I played the game everyday, and side quests included, it only took me about 30ish hours. Personally I like longer games, it sucks when an amazing game comes out but the game is on the shorter side. Games like little big planet, I love the entire franchise but 3 was really short. The game was really fun, especially with co-op, but I feel like I could beat the game in a few hours if I really tried. The game had a lot of potential with all the new mechanics added, not to say it was wasted but it could have been utilized more. Anyways, I went on a rant but I'm genuinely curious.
I think it’s really interesting that all of the games have different styles. The four horsemen are different so it makes sense that their respective games will play differently
I haven't played darksider 2 In a decade and I recently got the game again and man every time I load in it gives me Goosebumps it's just as good as I remember it
It was an interesting change of pace surely, to see from Death’s point of reference. I didn’t really like the prequel story as its self but it just better served the ending of Darksiders 1 with the ending in DS2.
I remember having a blast with the first and tried the second with too much hype. I was clueless about rpg games and i hated it so much that i never played for more than 2 missions. Recenlty i am playing it now that i am more familiar with it's genre and yes it's good and all, but TOO MANY PUZZLES. Come on drop me hordes of enemies bro. Also very annoying the focus mode, the camera locks straight, not even a bit higher to have a better perspective of what are you hitting lol (like Dark Souls for example). I will finish the game and kinda enjoy it (bit boring kill an enemy and check the stats of a clone of a weapon everytime). I just hate the fact that we never had the same we had with the first game, which was the logical decision after the first game.
I'm a fan of them all. I like the fact they all played differently or else I would have been bored. My favorite in this order is DS2, DS1, DSG & DS3. DS2 the ability to create your own weapons & the story not being short with the added DLC is truly a master piece. D2 & D3 the crucible truly is worth it.
The combat system is a huge downgrade from ds2 to ds 3. You can finally new game + many times now instead of just one time. But the gameplay doesnt feel good enough in ds3. They should have made ds2 new game + able.
Despite its negative reviews and feedback, I did enjoy Darksiders 3. I wish Fury had more techniques and they expanded so I do feel they did downgrade the gamebat and in turn adopted the Souls-like world building.
After watching Whitelight's 3-hour long Darksiders 2 video, I was hyped to see another video that's almost 3-hour long about Darksiders. Thank you for making this. Great video!
Darksiders1&2great video games, 3 was very lame and 4 was just a waste all together, they should let you choose who you want to be, and have the others fight beside you
True, and I guess they looked at the first one and thought, "Hmm ... how can we chip-away at the good things about this game, add a bunch of crap no one wants or asked for, until we end up with a top-down game no one likes, or wants to play?" I mean, it took a lot of work to screw something up that badly. It's one thing to polish a turd, but to take a diamond and turn that it into a turd, and _then_ polish said turd could not have been an easy thing to pull off. You really have to admire to sheer peckerheadedness of the seriously out-of-touch creative decisions it took to do that.
Really want to see a Darksiders 4 with Strife as the protagonist. Third person action RPG with massive world building and gun kata as his primary source of attack sequences (think Dante is Gunslinger Stance). Also borrowing his movesets from Genesis, with his kicks via martial arts and his daggers for melee combat
I think Genesis served pretty well as Strife's game. The Diablo-esque combat fits his gun centered combat well. I personally just couldn't see a "regular" Darksiders game with Strife. I say they take the item system from Darksiders 2 with all the Zelda that comes with it. Darksiders 4 will undoubtedly be all the horsemen fighting against the Charred Counsil, Lucifer, and the Creator, so they could have their powers taken away, setting up an item system like in Darksiders 2, with exploration from Darksiders 1, and the creature cores from Genesis, because that was an interesting character building system I haven't played Darksiders 3 (which sucks because Blades and Whip edition is on sale for $19.99 and I only have $18.55) so I'm not sure what can be taken from it, but I feel a fifth game with all horsemen which mixes elements from the past games would be a satisfying end to the series, with great endings to all the characters, or maybe even 1 or 2 more games
@@hairlessgrizzly559 Nooo, it didn't! It would be a major disservice to such an awesome character to leave it at that. We need a Darksiders game with Strife as the protagonist that plays and looks more like the others, but of course adapted to his more specific play style. FatalFist's comment is spot on. After that then yeah, a final game with all 4 Riders.
@@RicardoPetinga I just don't see why Genesis isn't adequate as a Strife game Hell, I even looked at the 1 star reviews for Genesis and they said it was an insult to the Darksiders series, do people really think this?
@@hairlessgrizzly559 no. The devs even said it's not an actual stand alone game for Strife and they also stated they are making the forth game in the mean time for him.
This was an awesome 3hr long retrospective to a badass series. I really hope Darksiders 4 with Strife does happen, as he has the potential to be the coolest Horseman.
Thank you mate, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I do hope Strife gets his own game but if we could only get 1 more darksiders game I want to see the continuation on from the end of the first game finally!
@@MayorHairBear in all fairness I don't think Darksiders is a dead franchise. We will get more games, but with long time intervals in between. And the continuation from the first game will be perhaps the final series here. That could perhaps spell the end of the Darksiders universe, game, comic everything. A game Having the 4 horsemen in it deserves to be of epic proportions and the story and gameplay of it gotta be out of the world. we will be fighting samael, Lucifer, the charred council and the best of heaven, whoever that is.
Darksiders 2,in my humble opinion, is one of the top 0.1% of RPG games, it's so complete in all aspects that I still can't find a match that gives me the same joy and entertainment that that game does, not even the first one. I may be a little crazy but I"ve beaten the game almost 6 times in the last 10 years, and I'm in my 7th run right now. Death is the best and most charismatic fictional character I've ever encountered and I definitely prefer him over Kratos and many more.
I had such a wonderful time on these titles, Darksiders was the introduction to my career in the game industry. It was actually my first title as QA and I was lucky enough to be one of the first to be a tester for 2. Then THQ decided the U-Draw was a good idea for Xbox and PS because it sold well on the Wii... Aaaand we all lost our jobs lol! Got me where I am today though and I couldn't be more greatful. Darksiders is hands down my favorite game to pick up and play, I still have a copy of the puzzle solved "Dun dun dundundun" aka the "I did something right" sound clip I... Accquired somehow... that I use for text messages. And I Can still absolutely, 100% repeatable, completely crash the game too lol! Really appreciate the video man, we were just QA but some of the best people I have ever met in my life worked really hard on this title and were damn proud of it. Lots of stories lol! Thank you for this, makes me happy to see so many fans.
I hope that one day we get a conclusion to the darksiders story (after ds1) where the lessons learned from the previous games culminate is an incredible package. Possibly allowing to play as any of the 4 horsemen with 3 of your 4 abilities stemming from the other horsemen.
also I know you often look at the comments and keep up with your community. So if your reading this I just want to say that your channel is criminally underrated, and these retrospectives are truly incredible. I’ve thought about possibly getting into video essays/retrospective videos myself, and a good majority of that stems from the inspiration I get from your videos. Truly great content and if you continue it’s only a matter of time until your channel blows up massively!
I completely agree, I hope we see an epic conclusion involving all the horsemen, revisit that 4 player co op idea and go wild! Thank you so much, I appreciate the kind words my friend!
personally hated that the human guy turned out to be strife in 3, he was the only human character that actually gave credability to humanity ever being a part of the war with heaven and hell like everyone feared , also hes like the only human thats not dead that was made be be interesting and likeable
Imagine Darksiders 4, being a DOOM Eternal like game. With Strife having multiple arsenal of weapons and just slaying demons and angels left and right just like Doom Slayer
Iv just checked your playlists... Thank you for taking the time to actually use it nothing worse then finding a new RUclips and not been able to check out old content easy
I’d be ok skipping a solo strife game so they can take their time and make a truly great experience with all 4. Would love a strife game but if I had to choose
Oh yeah, I want them to put all the eggs in the basket and make the big, massive game to end the series, where we can play as all 4 Horseman and wrap everything up. I would jump on that like white on rice!
Bro the start of Darksiders 1 is metal as fuck. There are not many stories out there that have the sheer audacity to eradicate humanity, and even then they do it at the end as a tragic outcome. Then comes this game rushing and does it at the start like the fucking chad it is lmao.
What a great video! I can't believe your ranking is the exact same as mine. Darksiders 2 is my favorite game of all time. It just feels perfect in every way. I've beaten it more than ten times but it just never gets old.
Very well crafted video, thoroughly enjoyed as a personal Darksiders fan, deserves alot more recognition than this currently has (same quality as the 1-2 million view videos.) Great video man.
I played genesis with a friend who isn't really a fan of Darksiders but he and I both loved the game. I was very excited for it because of that amazing cinematic trailer they made for it and I forced him to play it with me and we had a blast. I played war, he played strife and it was cool to see how they did the puzzles. I hope we get a Darksiders 4 and 5 so we can nicely wrap up the franchise with a game where we play as strife and a game where you can play as any of the four and or play coop with a friend or 2. A hope that will most likely never come.
I LOVE that we all have such different experiences and relationships with these games. 2 is (by quite a long way) my least favourite (I’d go 1 > 3 > G > 2). Great video, and I am so, so excited for whatever is next with this series!
It was obvious Darksiders 2 was gonna be the top pick, it is such a good game. Overall really enjoyed these videos. Maybe Castlevania Lords of Shadow next? It's only 3 games so I don't know if that would be interesting enough for a series.
Speaking possessed weapons from DS2, getting the demonheart talisman as early as possible made looting for possessed weapons an almost guarantee. Definitely switched to it frequently when finding a chest or weapon rack. The loot system definitely added a sense of deeper strategy or even allowed the player to switch up their gaming style just by changing up their gear. Whether you want more defense, more attack, more life steal, more arcane, or even just being able to switch into your reaper form more frequently, there's equipment you can choose from or even mixed up if you want a more balanced play style.
For me i will always love the first 2 specially 1. I actually thought 3 was ok as well. Tuck one look at darksiders genesis and thought no way what the F is this. To this day I have Never played it, after watching this vid I might actually give it a chance, I still hope it goes back to its formula and not look like a mobile phone game because I can’t stand games in that prospective.
About the part where you said how you'd describe Darksiders in one word. While "Good" and "simple" are good choices, I've always felt "Epic" to be most fitting. The characters, the dialogue, the performances. This game is what made Liam O'Brien my forever favorite VA. The game has so many cool memorable moments, and they never feel out of place. The ending will always be seared into my brain because of just how good it is.
32:00 I found a lot of the late game enemy's really agrivating while playing on the hardest difficulty because enemy's were doing 2-3 health bars per hit or straight up half my health total.
Only just came across your channel recently and immediately subscribed. Your in-depth commentary and editing are so great you deserve more subscribers, so I will be recommending the channel to my friends. Keep up the great work!
i got Darksiders 2 on the old 360 it was one of my favourite games when i had just started gaming (first console was the 360 btw and this game was one of the first id ever gotten)
Find it funny how Darksiders 2 was my first introduction to the franchise, but love this franchise so much that I've done preorders when possible, get every remastered version and on every platform that I'm able to play on like Xbox, PC and even on my Wii U; and even got the books (art books and the vault novel). Still looking forward to Darksiders 4, have a feeling that it may focus on Strife solely, maybe on how he got to the point in Darksiders 3 or perhaps continue from that point. Eh, I'm just looking forward to it, specially since I've been wanting the Charred Council's heads on a spike for so long now LOL
I don't respect the opinion of people who cry "clone" because a new work is merely innovating on systems in works that came before it. Ideas don't come from spontaneous nothing. They are an amalgamations of the natural muses in real life, sciences, history, nature, etc. Or other works of man whether it is music, paintings, books, other videogames.
Biggest issue with Darksiders 3 was no horse combat. Me thinks it had to get scraped for some reason, maybe they couldn't get it to work or had no time. But a Horseman with no horse feels wrong
I absolutely love Darksiders 2. I no doubt spent hundreds of hours playing it. The music was always a stand out for me. It just felt so magical and perfect for whatever was going on. The RPG elements of the game kept me playing for so long.
This video convinced me to play every Darksiders game now. I've had all of them sitting in my library since... well the release day for each game. I played all of them for like an hour when they released and never touched it again and I feel crazy for it (I'm a bit of a game hoarder lol). But now I am marathoning through em and having a blast with Darksiders 1.
The bugs, crashes and time wasting design of darksiders 2 killed it for me. The original game was above average & the series high point. I bought the 3rd one (yet to play it), i just hope it doesn't crash to desktop & I'll finish it!
I grabbed Darksiders off the GameStop rack back in the day because I had a few reward bucks left and it had an interesting premise and cover art. From the moment Liam O'Brien uttered his first words as War I was hooked, and it instantly became my second favorite franchise (my first being Final Fantasy). From the setting and aesthetics to the gameplay loop, it all just clicked for me. There's challenge, but its accessible. There's brutality, but it fits the atmosphere. There's heavy subjects, but its all through a comic book lens. Just an overall chef's kiss of a franchise.
I will say you are completely correct on darksiders 3 picking up after the lust fight. I put it down on that fight for a few different reasons mainly life got busy and picked it back up about 3 months later and was blown away by how hooked I got from that part forward
Possessed weapons are what broke my game. At one point one of them was so corrupt it broke my inventory and I would crash at every auto-save point. My only work around was to physically drop the weapons on the ground, pass the save point. Then pick them back up.
There are very few games I've played through multiple times. Darksiders is one of those games. I even enjoy the shadow arenas. It's the ultimate power fantasy with the looks and gameplay to match. I enjoyed DS2 but the levels and puzzles all seemed overly contrived. I've tried to play through it twice but usually wears out it's welcome when I get to the King of the Dead section. Played a bit of 3 but it just didn't seem like a DS game me. I enjoyed what I played of Genesis and hope to get back to it some day.
i remember that on one of my playthrough in darksiders 2 i had these gauntlets that were like "you want me dead? yeah NO LOL" because it was custom with 50 percent life and mana steal per hit so i was immortal agains anyone who couldnt one shot me
Awesome video mate. Thank you. My personal list: 1 - Darksiders 1, because of War being my favorite horseman; 2 - Darksiders 3, because of the character development of Fury (The others start and finish their respective games as already well developed personas. They don't rearrange their values and personal traits - only put them to a test.); 3 - Darksiders 2 and Genesis at the same spot, because of the immense work the teams did on the innovation, level design, soundtracks (including total epics like the track from the battle between War (the crowfather) & Death or the one in the battle vs Astarte) , overall story etc.
Sorry i am late but i love the Darksiders games and just picked up for first time ever playing for the Nintendo Switch for less then $25.00 each physically. I myself do believe the Darksiders games are underrated and it’s a shame dont receive the love and support. For me what makes Darksiders stand out compared to other hack, slash, RPG, demon, monster, slaying games over the years is….Darksiders is influenced, inspired, aspected on the Bible. It’s not a Christian game, it’s not a Bible game, but it’s influenced heavily on characters and events from the Bible.
This is an excellent group of reviews! I have hopes this franchise will at least end up like Metroid, where titles have years of space between them but still be quite popular.
I was willing to get over a lot of changes in Darksiders 3, but I was looking forward to see what they were going to do with horse gameplay. Never getting over it.
I hope Darksiders gets a 4th main line game and with that they can learn their mistakes from Darksiders 3 get the stuff that made the 1st and 2nd game special
Great coverage of Dark Siders series. Don't hear enough about Genesis, game was way better than you would think it would be, War plays exactly the same as the original game despite being isometric.
I think my biggest issue with the series is the confusing timeline. Like the timeline happens pretty much in reverse Genesis taking place the furthest back while Darksiders 1 happens far in advance. With 2 and 3 all happening long before the events of the first game. Like I started playing 2 and was like, "oh shit we're back on Earth!?!? I wonder if we'll run into War find out what happened after the end of the first game." Only to slowly realize that the events we played through in the first game haven't happened yet. Same thing with 3 started it up thinking, "Finally get the long awaited conclusion.. wait War is still imprisoned!?!? What the f***!?!?" It's like the ultimate blue balls for action games. You get teased with the idea of these world ending badasses all teaming up together to fight Heaven and He'll only for it constantly move the goal post further and further. Otherwise yeah this series is amazing I love the different worlds. I love the character designs. I love the lore! It's all so amazing and it keeps me wanting to know more and see more. Even little pieces of backstory like how War lost control and the other Horsemen had to chop his arm off to snap him out of his rage explaining why his one arm is a giant stone. Or that Fury is actually the strongest of the Horsemen but because of her rude and brash nature she's unfit to be a competent leader of the Horsemen. Or that Death the literal grim reaper doesn't actually enjoy killing or witnessing death but does what he has to do because he loves his family that deeply he'd throw away his own life if it meant saving theirs. Just such good character writing you can feel the weight in their choices and decisions that much more.
To me the funnest part of Darksiders 2 was figuring out the best way to deal the most damage. I determined that using the gauntlets with attributes enhancing crit chance and crit damage was the best way to go, since they attack SO fast. You are pretty much guaranteed to do nothing but high damage crits super fast if you get the stats just right.
That aspect of the game is what made me not like it as much as DS 1. I don't like loot games much, I find them tedious. Which is a testament to how great DS 2 is, because I just looked up one gear guide, copied it, then ran through the game and had a blast, even though it's not my preferred type of game play.
@@ChoseDeath I agree actually, I preferred the dedicated weapons of DS 1 and upgrading them, to the tiered loot system of DS 2, which is just random, and any given weapon becomes irrelevant when a better one comes along
Something I reacted to when I played Darksiders when it was released was that the dialog and voice acting was insanely good and it pretty much is throughout the series.
wanted to add that you’re supposed to use the portals in the scribe fight for darksiders 2 which is why he does such obscene damage although i guess it would be possible to kill him without the portals
I know that usually people say that Darksiders 2 is the best in the trilogy, and the third one is the worst. IDK, but I liked the first one the most, then I would put the THIRD one, and I actually liked DS 2 less of all. It’s also great, but it is what is for me.
I know this vid is a year old but another reason why i loved DS2 is its loot system is also accurate to lore. Death's mission isnt sanctioned by the council so his weapons wont work, he has to actively go out of his way to find gear to use. It shows how much War means to him that he'll go out of his way to cripple his powers just to save him. I love this franchise so much and this retrospective felt like a love letter to the entire series. Each game is just so good for its own reasons.
I love darksiders.. i started with 2 and then 1 and then 3.. i think 2 is my favorite and then 3 and then 1. Ive never played genesis just because top down isnt really my thing... but i think 3 gets a bad wrap, i think darksiders 3 is a great game... and i really hope we get darksiders 4
Darksiders 1 is definitely the best in my opinion, just change 2 and 1 around. Lot of nostalgia to go back and play that game, especially trying to figure out the puzzles with the portal gun, extremely aggravating but amusing and enjoyable to play. Darksiders 1 set the foundation for the rest of the games and War was just a badass character.
Thank you for making this video. Having said that, there are some things, i feel you have left out, manly the design, enviroment and music. To me, those things play a huge part in the immersion of playing a game. And in regards to Genesis: i played it all the way with a friend of mine, he as war and me as strife. We both were skeptical about it but from the start, we felt right into the gameplay and it was a blast. Playing with a friend, adds alot to the experience of playing Darksiders Genesis. There were plenty of times, we stop up, just to enjoy some of the views that we saw in the game. The music is gorgeous and really helps with building up the tension for a incoming boss fight, Astarte is one good exampel. Anyway, a good video and i hope you keep making more :)
Thank you for your kind words mate and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I agree I dropped the ball in terms of this series design, environment and not going more in depth with the soundtracks. With these retrospectives I usually don't touch on many visual aspects and music wise, I'm honestly not the most knowledgable other than saying, it feels good. But I will do better in the future because you're right, they're big parts as to why this series is so incredible.
When I was younger and upgraded from my Nintendo ds to an Xbox 360 it came included with darksiders 2. I fell in love with the game and it was the first “real” game I played to completion. The art style, music, character design, and hack and slash gameplay still stick with me to today. No matter how others feel about the series it’ll always have a place in my heart.
You all seem to forget DS2 was a dissaster at lauch with a 2-3 milions user who pre-bought the game and it was downright slide show. Karkinos was a boss who if you had any lower than 45 FPS you were not able to get past him, it would have helped if we could change resolutions but this release was favored towards Consoles at the time and so even on PC options for Video setting were trash. Great game and concept and it was patched but that bad Start was what killed the game and is the main reason why a lot of gamer brothers and sisters stayed away from the game.
as a fan of 4 Horseman and as someone who was able to play the 3 Darksiders 1 to 3 I believe they deserve a reboot or a remake because I believe that all darksider game are great and worth the play.
In my opinion darksiders 2 is essentially as good as mentioned but my major issue with it is just length. I do enjoy playing games that you can sink hours into it such as fallout but for darksiders 2, in my opinion just seems too long for me and I'm a completionist so i would want to do everything in the game. i guess for darksiders 2 certain systems make the endgame loot feel worthless, thus exploring secrets or even doing side quests has a less reward feeling, since it can just be replaced.
Bro, I love 100% completing games as well, but trying to find all those stupid crystals in DS 2 broke me 😂 And I 100% beat Grand Theft Auto: Vice City! I couldn't agree with you anymore than I do, well said.
I played Darksiders for the first time on my 360. Also where I got my username from. To get to the point; I played Genesis with my girlfriend and it was one of the most fun Co-op games I've played! And the music! Oh lord it's fantastic! I was sceptical at first because of some controversy but I tried it for myself and loved it. Especially because we got to play our favourite horsemen! War and Strife!
As for who killed rampage in Darksiders III, it's assumed to have been angels being manipulated by the charred council. Probably because they seem to be winding up fury and pointing her at various people to have them killed.
this video is amazing, but i cant stop and notice how most of critiques about game difficulty come from people than are not even playing on the highest one, is just mindblowing to me
I've loved the first game, hated the second, the gameplay in the second is much improved and very smooth, but the story is boring and it often seems like Death is just a delivery boy for everyone else, you could argue that in the first game War was too, because to get help from Samael you need to do a fetch quest for him, but the game is well paced and the progression is more rewarding in the first game, in the second game, everyone you meet has a fetch quest for you, EVERYONE, "Oh, I see that you are in a hurry and all, and I would be very happy to help, but I have this macguffin that I really need/want, if you bring this to me/past the test/fulfil this request for me, I'll help you get slightly closer to your urgent goal", it's like that for everyone you meet, and there's even side quests within the side quests, if people like to do a lot of side quests, that's their preference and I understand that, I don't bother doing some myself, but at least the characters need to be interesting, only Death was interesting, I got to the realm of the dead to talk to the guy that could ACTUALLY help me, and when the first NPC I talked to asked me to do shit, I've put the game down... I'm considering buying the last game (Genesis) because you said the story is good and it's also a prequel, don't get me wrong, I don't always play games for the story, I'll play games with bad stories if they have good gameplay, I just don't like to do chores in games and feel like I'm wasting my time. EDIT: typo
I would like to say this is one of my favorite franchises I ever play my favorite game is death I really like the soundtrack game play storyline and how it let you explore more in the game I really really hope the make two more game 1 of just there bother Strife and the last one of all of them together and you are Are you able to play with all of them 🙏
2:27:52 the middle of the arena is always free of crystals during this attack :D Also, about the crystal cores: I agree that this power recommendation is pretty weird and seems incredibly useless, but I really like the cores themselfs, as they allow some great combos. My favorite is combining the one that spawns two strife clones instead of one together with the "8% chance to summon a void rift when you attack" or smth like that, as these two clones shoot incredibly fast, therefore have a high chance to spawn rifts and just absolutely decimate enemies.
Big gripe with ds3 for me was that havoc form was so weak unless you went a full arcane build and got all your damage from wrath attacks and counters, meaning you get 2 tapped by everything and your regular melee leaves to be desired, but counters will 1 shot most enemies and havoc form is actually formidable when activated
Idk if it's cause I'm not a souls guy or what, but I found Darksiders 3 incredibly difficult. For me 2 was hard in a good way, but 3 just made me frustrated.
I was 16 when I played ds1, I thought I was younger and just had a slight crisis when looking up the release date, but I can’t believe how much of it I remembered while watching this
I always thought it was SUCH a cop-out that they changed Famine and Pestilence to Fury and Strife. Pestilence should have been DoT and curse-like effects, and Famine should have focused on draining health, special meter, defense, and strength from your opponents and into yourself. Just such a cop-out for what could have been a great idea.
I think famine should be more focused on eating enemies and gaining buffs that last a certain amount of time after each consumption. And pestilence should be dealing debuffs instead of curses. Famine should have a club and pestilence a cane sword/rapier or staff.
After Darksiders 2 I became so invested in this series and it's future..only to be disappointed DS2 really was an amazing gem that I don't think they'll ever reach again
This was a pleasure to watch and It made wanna play them all again. Although I am playing serious Sam at the moment and I am having a blast wold love to see you go back and visit it as well.
Nice Review. I would personally have a completely different ranking. I have played all of the Darksiders games and in general i am a big fan of the series. I really like the theme of the games. While i have played Darksiders 3 and Genesis only once so far, i have played Darksiders 1 multiple times and Darksiders 2 twice i think. For me Darksider 1 is the best game of the series and after that i would say Darksiders 3 and Genesis both are second (both awesome games). Darksiders 2 is last place for me. I played Darksiders 2 on release and in my memory had a really great time. After that i think at lease 6-7 years passed and i revisited the game, because of the great memories and it completely killed the game for me. After playing it again i realised how much i disliked the RPG elements in the game. The loot , skilltree, the token which you can use to buy loot, the gear upgades, .... All of that, for me personally, is not what i remember and want in a Darksiders game. Darksiders 3 and Genesis, in my opinion, did a way better job to transport what Darksiders is about gameplay wise, for me personally. So for me revisiting Darksiders 2 actually killed my good memories i had when i first played in on release. That has not happened that often to me yet.
Darksiders 2 made Samael so interesting to me. You go back in time and he's just sitting on his throne and flat-out says he knew you were coming. He never explains how he knew but somehow Samael knew you were time traveling back to get the Demon Key. He even hints that he knows exactly how Death's adventure will play out: "Sometimes the hero dies in the end". He definitely has his own agenda. He clearly hates the Charred Council and Heaven but we also know from the first game that he tried (and failed) to overthrow the Lord of Hell and still holds a grudge. Then you actually fight him and in the post-fight cutscene you see that all you managed to do was give him a cut on the cheek. He basically says "Well that was fun, here's the Demon Key. Have fun resurrecting humanity and saving War, who I haven't met yet but also know exactly how HIS story will play out as well". It really shows you that Samael is operating on a level above everyone else. The Chosen were being 100% genuine when they tell you it's a horrible idea to free Samael from his prison because it was so hard to get him in there in the first place.
The four horsemen are different so it makes sense that their respective games will play differently
thats i think Strife should get a 3rd Person shooter !!!
I haven't played darksider 2 In a decade and I recently got the game again and man every time I load in it gives me Goosebumps it's just as good as I remember it
Darksiders 2 is incredible, was such a blast revisiting the game today!
I 💯 agree. Darksiders 2 is my favorite game all time. I even got a forearm sleeve after it
That's awesome!
Thank you for watching mate! I'm glad you enjoyed the video 🤙
@@MayorHairBear watched your other videos too, great stuff. Looking forward to Darksiders 4 and your video on it
Darksiders1&2great video games, 3 was very lame and 4 was just a waste all together, they should let you choose who you want to be, and have the others fight beside you
Darksiders 1 is still the king, got so much right on the first try its shocking
It's really impressive isn't it!
Good game but the combat is pretty same same. The main sword is too effective as well as the spikes special attack.
2 had more cosmetic tho
Genesis art and music was amazing
@@degatagauwatie4073 They did better with 2 tho
I didn't give Genesis a fair shake the first time I played it. You've convinced me to give it another go :)
That's awesome mate, I hope you enjoy it this time around!
@@MayorHairBear FYI during Moloch boss fight purple crystals can be smashed with War's Gauntlet attack
It sucks tbh
@@JustSendMeLocation I really enjoyed it
@@matttyree1002 even bad games can be enjoyable 😂
Darksiders 4 will undoubtedly be all the horsemen fighting against the Charred Counsil, Lucifer, and the Creator, so they could have their powers taken away, setting up an item system like in Darksiders 2, with exploration from Darksiders 1, and the creature cores from Genesis, because that was an interesting character building system
I haven't played Darksiders 3 (which sucks because Blades and Whip edition is on sale for $19.99 and I only have $18.55) so I'm not sure what can be taken from it, but I feel a fifth game with all horsemen which mixes elements from the past games would be a satisfying end to the series, with great endings to all the characters, or maybe even 1 or 2 more games
@@RicardoPetinga I just don't see why Genesis isn't adequate as a Strife game
Hell, I even looked at the 1 star reviews for Genesis and they said it was an insult to the Darksiders series, do people really think this?
@@hairlessgrizzly559 no. The devs even said it's not an actual stand alone game for Strife and they also stated they are making the forth game in the mean time for him.
@@benkraze3103 man, they better make the final game in the series "Darksiders 4"
If not, that's a really big missed opportunity
Just hope you can do a melee combat skill tree and ranged for those who want hack and slash and shooter
@@haroonmohammed6351 That is true, many things have accumulated that can lead to a spectacular ending
Death is the coolest of the 4 Horseman
Nice to have your review of all four together in one video. Especially after getting the combo of the three main games on sale.
Thank you mate, glad you like the chunky vids!
I think the point was this war was premature, so humanity was not yet at the level needed to fight demons and angels in equal grounds.
Yeah I don't know why some choose not to utilise the feature. I'm with you it makes catching up on content so much easier
I really hope we get a solo for Strife, and a giant multiplayer version with all 4 horsemen.
I'd love to see that!
I’d be ok skipping a solo strife game so they can take their time and make a truly great experience with all 4. Would love a strife game but if I had to choose
@@TrueGamer22887 That's fair. To be true, Genesis, as a solo game, could very well count AS Strife's game.
New darksider got announced time to ride again Horsemen
What a great video!
I can't believe your ranking is the exact same as mine.
Darksiders 2 is my favorite game of all time. It just feels perfect in every way. I've beaten it more than ten times but it just never gets old.
Thank you so much mate, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Very well crafted video, thoroughly enjoyed as a personal Darksiders fan, deserves alot more recognition than this currently has (same quality as the 1-2 million view videos.) Great video man.
*This was not a sponsoured comment, not a paid actor either surely*
Thank you so much mate, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Originally I was going to cover Lords of Shadow alongside Darksiders but just could not get into them this time. Maybe down the track!
@@MayorHairBear that's a shame. Maybe someday, I'm hopeful.
Agreed
Speaking possessed weapons from DS2, getting the demonheart talisman as early as possible made looting for possessed weapons an almost guarantee. Definitely switched to it frequently when finding a chest or weapon rack.
The loot system definitely added a sense of deeper strategy or even allowed the player to switch up their gaming style just by changing up their gear. Whether you want more defense, more attack, more life steal, more arcane, or even just being able to switch into your reaper form more frequently, there's equipment you can choose from or even mixed up if you want a more balanced play style.
Just came across this video, great stuff.
Still have my Special Edition Darksiders 2 with the mask.
May be time for a revisit.
Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed the video and absolutely time to revisit these gems!
Playing this series was like playing through a comic book, and it was AMAZING.
Did you watch Vox Machina?
32:00 I found a lot of the late game enemy's really agrivating while playing on the hardest difficulty because enemy's were doing 2-3 health bars per hit or straight up half my health total.
Only just came across your channel recently and immediately subscribed. Your in-depth commentary and editing are so great you deserve more subscribers, so I will be recommending the channel to my friends. Keep up the great work!

Biggest crime of DS3 game was putting that damn cloth covering Fury ass.
i got Darksiders 2 on the old 360 it was one of my favourite games when i had just started gaming (first console was the 360 btw and this game was one of the first id ever gotten)
Man im still holding out hope for an announcement of a new Darksiders game. I hope we get that Four Horseman game at some point.
Part 2 was So Good! I will always love that game....THE MUSIC WAS AMAZING
You're spot on, imagine thinking any idea is completely original 😂
Biggest issue with Darksiders 3 was no horse combat. Me thinks it had to get scraped for some reason, maybe they couldn't get it to work or had no time. But a Horseman with no horse feels wrong
Do not worry, HORSEMAN... You'll Ride soon once again.
completely agree with your ranking and it wasn't really a surprise after watching all your previous vids on darksiders series. Great video overall!
Thank you mate, glad you enjoyed!
I can 100% relate to hoarding games for no reason 😂 But I'm glad you're finally giving the series a go mate, enjoy!
The bugs, crashes and time wasting design of darksiders 2 killed it for me. The original game was above average & the series high point. I bought the 3rd one (yet to play it), i just hope it doesn't crash to desktop & I'll finish it!
A million views man this channel has come a long way congratulations man
I know it's crazy mate, I just realised it hit 1M today!
This is the content I enjoy. Not just the subject, but the presentation. Got a sub, bub.
Thank you so much mate, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and welcome to the channel!
Thank you, you're the first person I've seen comment that! After Lust it just pulls you in and doesn't let go!
Possessed weapons are what broke my game. At one point one of them was so corrupt it broke my inventory and I would crash at every auto-save point. My only work around was to physically drop the weapons on the ground, pass the save point. Then pick them back up.
u just gave me a reason to buy the whole series... thx for the almost 3hr
Thank you for watching mate, enjoy!
Great list👌 we all know the second is the best but it's always interesting to hear how ppl get to that conclusion.
Thank you mate, hard to top 3!

Darksiders 2 is just such a good time, the gameplay and overall fun factor was here the whole game! Great video mate
Hit you up a sub, keep it up man
Ay thank you mate, welcome to the channel!
Darksiders is a great series. It mixes it up and changes things around that aren't always for the best but overall it's a great series!
Darksiders 1 was the first game i ever speedran, completed it in one night
Hats off to you not feeling numb on your ass walking through the whole game
i remember that on one of my playthrough in darksiders 2 i had these gauntlets that were like "you want me dead? yeah NO LOL" because it was custom with 50 percent life and mana steal per hit so i was immortal agains anyone who couldnt one shot me
Awesome 😂 Wish I would have had those! I'll keep that in mind when I play the game again.
2 was too glitchy, and that loot system shit....ugh.
Give me 1 and it's sense of progression any day.
Awesome video mate. Thank you.
My personal list:
1 - Darksiders 1, because of War being my favorite horseman;
2 - Darksiders 3, because of the character development of Fury (The others start and finish their respective games as already well developed personas. They don't rearrange their values and personal traits - only put them to a test.);
3 - Darksiders 2 and Genesis at the same spot, because of the immense work the teams did on the innovation, level design, soundtracks (including total epics like the track from the battle between War (the crowfather) & Death or the one in the battle vs Astarte) , overall story etc.
Thank you for watching mate, glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you so much mate!
I was willing to get over a lot of changes in Darksiders 3, but I was looking forward to see what they were going to do with horse gameplay. Never getting over it.
That was a real let down!
Thank you mate! Agreed, Genesis really does need more love it's great fun
You are pretty much guaranteed to do nothing but high damage crits super fast if you get the stats just right.
i went with nekromancer build going high crit chance and generating mana fast.
The voice acting really is spectacular in the series!
wanted to add that you’re supposed to use the portals in the scribe fight for darksiders 2 which is why he does such obscene damage although i guess it would be possible to kill him without the portals
Darksiders 1 set the foundation for the rest of the games and War was just a badass character.
this video got me through the last couple hours at work, god bless
Hell yeah! 🔥
I don't know why but I've played every single Darksiders game and I dropped them all mid way through or not even. But Darksiders 2 is my favorite.
as a fan of 4 Horseman and as someone who was able to play the 3 Darksiders 1 to 3 I believe they deserve a reboot or a remake because I believe that all darksider game are great and worth the play.
Maaan that Darksiders 2 E3 trailer had me hyped back in the day lol, so hyped I pre ordered it and bought the first one
That trailer was a work of art!
As for who killed rampage in Darksiders III, it's assumed to have been angels being manipulated by the charred council. Probably because they seem to be winding up fury and pointing her at various people to have them killed.
I'm a huge fan of Joe Mad's style, couldn't be more happy when Airship Syndicate made Genesis
He's so damn talented!
this video is amazing, but i cant stop and notice how most of critiques about game difficulty come from people than are not even playing on the highest one, is just mindblowing to me
I've loved the first game, hated the second, the gameplay in the second is much improved and very smooth, but the story is boring and it often seems like Death is just a delivery boy for everyone else, you could argue that in the first game War was too, because to get help from Samael you need to do a fetch quest for him, but the game is well paced and the progression is more rewarding in the first game, in the second game, everyone you meet has a fetch quest for you, EVERYONE, "Oh, I see that you are in a hurry and all, and I would be very happy to help, but I have this macguffin that I really need/want, if you bring this to me/past the test/fulfil this request for me, I'll help you get slightly closer to your urgent goal", it's like that for everyone you meet, and there's even side quests within the side quests, if people like to do a lot of side quests, that's their preference and I understand that, I don't bother doing some myself, but at least the characters need to be interesting, only Death was interesting, I got to the realm of the dead to talk to the guy that could ACTUALLY help me, and when the first NPC I talked to asked me to do shit, I've put the game down...
I'm considering buying the last game (Genesis) because you said the story is good and it's also a prequel, don't get me wrong, I don't always play games for the story, I'll play games with bad stories if they have good gameplay, I just don't like to do chores in games and feel like I'm wasting my time.
EDIT: typo
Absolutely loved Darksiders 1 and 2 but I do find it much easier to return to and replay Darksiders 1.
Darksiders 1 is definitely more replayable
Darksiders was everything edgy teenage me ever wanted. And I can't help but want to go back
Couldn't have said it better myself!
I would like to say this is one of my favorite franchises I ever play my favorite game is death I really like the soundtrack game play storyline and how it let you explore more in the game I really really hope the make two more game 1 of just there bother Strife and the last one of all of them together and you are Are you able to play with all of them 🙏
2:27:52 the middle of the arena is always free of crystals during this attack :D
Also, about the crystal cores: I agree that this power recommendation is pretty weird and seems incredibly useless, but I really like the cores themselfs, as they allow some great combos.
I was 16 when I played ds1, I thought I was younger and just had a slight crisis when looking up the release date, but I can’t believe how much of it I remembered while watching this
The very same happened to me. I thought I was younger somehow.
8:55 war did really die infront of straga. In darksiders 2 the Lord of bones tells Death that War's soul passed through his realm burning and enraged.
I can get behind this 100% it was always such a strange decision and you're right Famine and Pestilence make for incredible potential!
I think famine should be more focused on eating enemies and gaining buffs that last a certain amount of time after each consumption.
And pestilence should be dealing debuffs instead of curses.
Famine should have a club and pestilence a cane sword/rapier or staff.
Nah Fury and Strife are better and fit the setting much better
@@557deadpool Please elaborate on exactly how?
Could you please tell me what DoT means
After Darksiders 2 I became so invested in this series and it's future..only to be disappointed DS2 really was an amazing gem that I don't think they'll ever reach again
Darksiders 3 felt off because there was no Samael.
Intressting, for me its the other way around.
Darksiders 2 its phenomenal and probably best of them
Agreed mate
Very underrated game series. I play it every few years and still love it.
I played ds2 with my step-dad at age 9 or 10 and I had a Blast of fun we really bonded over that wonderful game
