This video is symbolic of how great the internet can be. Thought I'd have to take the speaker back to the shop, wait in line, go through the whole situation with a member of staff, probably repeat it to a manager or colleague, hope to get a replacement and come home. Instead, a quick search, a 2 minute video, and my speaker is working again! Nice on, Team AG, much appreciated.

For anyone who is having this issue you have to do it on a computer and use the Bose charger cable to avoid it not working.
    Here is the steps.
    1. Plug in Bose charger cable to charging port.
    2. Plug in USB into PC.
    3. Hold the Multifunction button (3 dots on top) for 10-15 seconds.
    4. Unplug the USB from your PC while still holding multifunction button.
    5. Release multifunction button.
    6. Replug in the USB into your PC.
    7. Hit power button and your Bose Color Soundlink 2 should now be charging with a flashing orange light indicating its charging.
If you do this on a wall outlet it will turn on but won’t go into charging mode for some really odd reason. Hope this helps all who experience this issue like I did.

This video is a literal blessing. I borrowed my dad’s speaker for a while and then gave it back to him not knowing that it was in this state. As a result, he got upset at me thinking I destroyed it (bec I have quite a history of uh.. damaging stuff 💀). Then I found this video and after an hour of unplugging, plugging, and begging I finally got it to work and also updated it as per the follow-up video. Now, I have regained my dad’s trust and my peace of mind. Truly, thank you 😌

Important Discovery if trying to update your Bose.
If it's not updating because it won't stay on long enough to update this is what I did. Hold down the power button and plug into your computer while on the bose updated website. Keep holding the power button while it updates to new software. Don't let go. Worked for me.

@@findingheadwaters, 😭 THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!! My speaker, that I was _this_close to giving up on, is now charging *thanks to YOU!!!* 🎉
I've probably been working on this for 1.5 hours, and I've tried soooo many different things including holding down the multifunction reset button 10-15 seconds with it plugged in, holding down the power butter 10-15 seconds, and I did the steps in this video problem 30+ times to no avail.
Like you, I was unable to update mine until I read about your trick!! After updating it, I then did the multifunction reset step again, the power button, and I did the steps in this video about 5 times, and suddenly, the next time I tried, it started charging! Yay!! Thank you again!! 😊

Honestly took me like 60+ times. It was dead for like 4-5 years sitting in a closet. Had to keep holding the button, plugging it in for 15, unplugging, and releasing. At first on a laptop until the orange light blinked, and then at about 10 seconds the white, red, and orange blinked. I wanted to be sure so i did thay about 10 times. Then i moved to a wall charger, did it another 10 or so times, tried the 3 dot button mentioned in the comments a few times, and then did the original method a handful more and it WORKED. Its currently blinking orange charging plugged into the wall. Thank you!!! I hope this helps someone else with a SUPER dead speaker.

Thanks a million!!!

So I had the same problem, and this fix didn't work after many multiple attempts, multiple USB adapters and cables.....BUT I saw this on fixit so I tried it and it WORKED!. I connected my speaker via the charging cord to my computer. I went to the Bose Support Website and clicked on the portable speakers picture, then the Bose Soundlink II Color picture there I saw saw the link to the Bose Software Updater. I downloaded the updater and ran it, (it was in my Downloads directory)
After the software updater connected to my Soundlink, It said my software was up to date, and wouldn't allow me to go backwards.....BUT I saw this on fixit! Type a, then d, then v, then Up_Arrow, then Down_Arrow ......BOOM; the window changed to Advanced Mode and allowed me to use older versions of software!
So I selected back one revision older, and then clicked on the green "Apply Changes" button.....the software update status bar went active and it took about two minutes to load the new software and automatically rebooting the speaker and it came to life speaking to me! Interesting enough, the speaker said my battery charge status was "HIGH" when it rebooted, so it wasn't the "Shipping mode" my speaker went into.... I hope this works for you if all the other methods fail.

AMAZING! This was some kind of voodoo on mine though. I did this about 3-4 times (wall outlet to speaker; not cpu). Then, the speaker magically emitted a sound (two beeps, different tones). I THEN waited 5-10 seconds and plugged the speaker into the wall charger and BA BOOM! The orange light begins flashing steadily.
Your video is STILL saving speakers in 2023. YOU ROCK my friend. Only wish you could consult with BOSE and put your method in their instruction manual haha.

Excellent Video! I am an electrical engineer and there are a few things you as an owner of this and many other devices that use a microprocessor controller (sometimes known as a "computer") located inside the box. First off, this is a computer-controlled device and does have this inside the speaker enclosure on the printed circuit board. Any device that says, BLUETOOTH has this. These microprocessors normally function very, very reliably but sometimes there is a glitch that can cause the microprocessor to fault out and the device will not function normally. These glitches may be caused by static electricity on the skin of every person from 5,000 to 100,000+ static Volts depending on the relative humidity of the air around you. The drier the air is, the higher the static skin charge. That static voltage may be applied to the electronic circuits when you plug the device in to charge it. This causes a failure of the microprocessor to follow its "Boot Up" routine program and the device will not work normally. In fact, it may cause the electronic components to be fatally damaged and require replacement to restore the device's operation. All good degreed electrical design engineers allow for the device to be re-booted in case this problem occurs. This is called a microprocessor "RESET." BOSE has done nothing wrong, in fact, they did it EXACTLY RIGHT! What can you can do to eliminate static voltage on your skin? First, you can discharge your skin by briefly touching the outside bare metal case of an ELECTRICALLY GROUNDED appliance, for example, the outside metal case of a plugged-in toaster. You do not have to turn the toaster ON, as long as the plug is plugged into the electrical outlet. The electrical plug has three prongs, the ROUND prong, and known as the GROUND prong. That ground prong is connected directly to the EARTH. Another thing that is important. If you are having issues with your BOSE device it may be prudent to give their customer service a call and they usually will be able to walk you through the RESET procedure. Please save yourself some money and call them first before tossing this $129+ device in the trash! If any of you are interested in other charging issues please write me. There are sometimes very simple, low-cost fixes that you can do yourself. I may be able you help you.

  • @georgeburdell367
    @georgeburdell367 2 года назад

Thanks Ryan! Your procedure worked - but I used a mod after reading comments that some users had to do the procedure many times. I Used the usb wall adapter, and just plugged it in for about 10 seconds, then unplugged, then repeat until it gained enough charge to start fully recharging. I suspect charging requires the microprocessor to be powered up, but when the power is too low the micro shuts down shortly after start up. By repeatedly plugging in it briefly gains charge before the micro shuts down again. Repeating many times eventually gets the battery level high enough to run the micro without it shutting down. This is an incredibly amateur bug on Bose part. If I didn’t like the speaker I would have taken it back and would never buy another Bose. Thanks for heads up on software update - you rock!
