    Bose should truly be ashamed of themselves for this... You're telling me this billion dollar company whose one job is to make speakers, no one tested to see if the speaker turned back on when the battery was drained all the way? Not mad at you, thanks for your help... Mad at bose.

      totally agree with the point. but there are several wonderful features, for example changing speakers' language it TRANSLATES blue tooth logical names of the sources, I'm serious, it does

    Mate, I live in Sri Lanka, took me a week to find someone to find someone with a laptop with a standard USB port. Tried all the other hacks on utube. This was the only one that worked! Was like having a child in a coma, can't live without my music. Thanks my friend 😁😁😁👍👍👍

    Thank you for your help! I didn't realize this was a common problem until today. I went to charge my speaker and would not turn on. I changed outlets and plugs etc. I thought it was broken. Thank you so much!

    I still could get mine to power up with the earlier tricks, but I plugged it into the laptop, ran the firmware update, and it’s working fine again. Thanks for the clear & concise information!

    This is the fix!! If its not working try a different USB cord. The 3rd cord finally did the trick and immediately connected.

      23.07.2024 Thank you so much for this - IT WORKED. Change cable allowed Bose update & is now charging. Hope others find this particular post too.

    My Color Soundlink II was unresponsive, even after reset and update steps. It look several tries and about 1 hr on the charger before it would start properly. Try plugging it in to a good power source (

    Dude. Serious Thank you. I had no idea how to do this, or that it was ever even necessary. My speaker stopped charging for some reason, so I turned to youtube. I found two other videos talking about holding down the power button, but that did not work. I was on the verge of buying a new speaker. This worked like a charm.

    If this is your first time you will need to download the application then go through a couple of steps before it will work (Mac). I am not having a lot of luck because during update it keeps loosing connection to the product. I unplugged and replugged several times with no success so far. I’ll keep trying but this was a very helpful video and good place to start. Thank you. UPDATE: the download is working now. Put the cord in another USB port and it’s working.

    Thank you AJ! Awesome! I had the same problem with my new Bose (only used less than 10 x's). Stopped charging for whatever reason. I searched for a fix because it's Corona time plus I hate going back to the store and wasting time. My search, thankfully, brought your video fix up. It took a couple of times but it WORKED!!     Very helpful. People should note: You have to download and install the updater. This will be on your computer after you are done (in the system tray). Remember to remove it: Bose obviously has such poor programmers you don't want any of their software permanently on your computer.

      Yeah no this isn’t working no matter what I try. They keep saying to plug-in my USB into the computer but because the speaker is completely dead with zero charge left I am unable to do anything since the computer doesn’t recognize the speaker is plugged in and since it won’t charge at all how do I get the bose updater to recognize my speaker?

      @@johnnyr8603 I had a hard time as well with that, BUT I got a brand new cord, and charged it up. Once that happened, the speaker was back up and running. Did you try a new cord?

    Thank you. You have to make sure you have the right USB cable or else it doesn't work. I learned the hard way. Once I plugged in a quality USB cable it worked perfect.

    Hi - thanks very much for the hint. I had a Bose Soundline Colour that wasn't responding at all. I'd tried all the button combinations (Power, Play/Pause etc) with no success. Connecting the Bose up to a LAPTOP (I tried a desktop but it didn't work) I then installed the Bose firmware updated and the low and behold the "dead" speaker updated the firmware and turned back on.
    Thanks to team AG for the suggestion!

    I had stopped using this speaker for a year because it was such a pain to figure out why it wouldn't charge half the time... But I didn't want to get rid of what was a great speaker when it did actually work.
    Just updating the firmware alone didn't work for me. But! Updating the firmware and then following kpadgett's instructions (I had to do it three times, but it finally worked) on the Bose forum ended up fixing the issue:
    "-Plug charging cable into speaker
    -Press the power button after the initial charging light blinks and you hear beep (do so quickly before the other three lights flash, the power indicator light will then flash red and the bluetooth indicator light will begin flashing)
    -Press and hold the multi-function button and unplug the charging cable after 10 seconds
    -Plug charging cable back in and it should charge as normal (by normal I mean the charging indicator light will continue to blink as it should, indicating it is now charging)"

    I've had this speaker for a few years now, put it on charge overnight, tried both your tips, and it's died, lockdown makes t harder. Feels like I've lost an old friend.

      Yeah I'm having the same problem here I guess it's possible the batteries wear out eventually rechargeable batteries eventually do die I haven't contacted them yet but I hope it's something they can repair

    Great video. I don’t understand why many other brands of speakers like Amazon Echo, Sonos or Ultimate Ears do not offer a permanent fixing Software rebooter or updater to solve any firmware issue, just Bose. Well, talking about Ultimate Ears, I had a UE Wonderboom 2 and it was my favorite speaker for ever, fully waterproof, an amazing 360° sound, great battery, the best Bluetooth connection I’ve seen on speakers, etc, it was so great that I never called technical support or do firmware updates, but, For example, the Sonos speakers are more likely to suffer firmware issues, there are tons of people reporting a bad behavior with their speakers, and there are tons of complains in the Sonos Forums. Amazon Echo also is a victim suffering these issues, specially the Dots, I had one and it had too many Wifi connection issues, as well as my Sonos Roam being unstable with Apple Music, AirPlay, Alexa and Bluetooth. What is your opinion about these permanent fixes? Sounds very helpful, but talking about real life, the troubleshooting steps or tools that the majority of wireless speaker brands offer for their products are not as good ass reinstalling the firmware to fix every single issue

    I had to purchase a new charger cord(after market) for my speaker recently from Amazon. I tried to update my speaker but it's not working with the new cord. Could it be that it's not the original cord that came with my Bose speaker? Thanks for the video btw.
