Bose SoundSport Free / Wireless (any) Firmware Update in under 10 minutes, not 2 hours

  • If you bought your Bose SoundSport Free And they came with firmware version 1.1.0, then you will want to update them to the latest or at least version 1.2.0 and it might say this will take an hour or longer. Same for the SoundSport Wireless that said it would take 30+ minutes. Both of these updated much faster with using a computer.
    Updating them with the connect app is probably taking way to long, this is how to fix that and use your computer. And version 1.2.0 is supposed to fix the mobile app firmware updating so the next time it should be faster to update them wirelessly.

    3:03 if you don't see the firmware status- go back and verify the micro-usb port is plugged in. I rushed through and kept seeing the same screen after 'launch updater webpage'. Hope 'Bose Product Support' channel reaches out to you & licenses your content. Thanks for producing this Helpful video. 16 Dec 2018: firmware 2.5.6.

    Thank you very much for your tutorial!! I was SO disappointed when my left earbud stopped working after only 2 days, and I saw online how long it can take to update through the app, so I was very happy to have the update take only 7 minutes. Now I am back in action! Yayyy! Thanks again! Btw, these earbuds sound amazing, especially with rap/hip hop.

      I bought these yesterday and the left one keeps disconnecting, I was thinking to take it to best buy to get a refund, if i update them it would fix the problem?

      Thanks for the comment, just want to point out a few things.
      I didn’t mention the disconnects as it seems this is either some bad Q&A, or environmental condition issue? I know some WiFi can interest with Bluetooth, and some routers offer a different way to handle the communication on 2.4Ghz with Bluetooth like my Asus router.
      Personally, I didn’t experience this with either set (I bought them again after the last firmware to see if everything was fixed) and tested with 50 WiFi enabled devices, other Bluetooth devices and RC-drone and FPV running and I was able to maintain connection over 3 stories to my basement. But I know others have received units with this issue, had them replaced and it seemed to fix it.

      Also be sure to check the description of my videos, I keep it updated and has the link to the bose support conversation about many different devices phasing different issues. So for you it might be different on an andriod phone vs iPhone, or the chip on the phone might be Bluetooth 4 vs 4.2 or even earlier chip protocols. So not knowing specifics it’s hard to say, but some have had success with the latest firmware, others still have had some issues. I would look into the WiFi and update the firmware, see if it has a setting to be more friendly with Bluetooth if it’s just in your home having this problem, or exchange them, have Bose swaps them for a new pair, lr return them. But it seems different for everyone at this point.
      Do I think they can make another firmware and make them better, I have my doubts so I returned mine twice. I did like the lime on the second pair, to bad they didn’t work for me still.

      Are you trying the micro USB cab,e this came with them? Also remember the ear buds in the case and the case needs to be opened.

    I'm going to the site that was mentioned and it doesn't give the same screen at 1:46 and doesn't do anything when I click launch or download, nothing happens

      Not sure why its not working? This is the directly link for the download of the software. You have to select your country before you can download the app.

      Once you installed the app you should be able to click this link and it will detect your headset your trying to update:

      If it take you to the install instruction then maybe try using a different web browser? Restart your computer and install it again? Or maybe their site is having issues?

      Ok I found the link and launched the update installer, but now I've ran into another issue, I'm recieveing a message stating "No dice...This product is not supported by the Bose Updater. Try something else." After trying to connect my USB to the Soundsport. Can I use any USB I want if it connects to the Soundsport Case, or does is need to be the one that came with the product, because I can't find that one. More specifically, I've been using the cables that have been charging my case and I'm still getting that message, any suggestions? Thank you.

      @@roamalot3000 Some of the cheaper Micro USB cables dont have the wires for data transfer and only support power for charging. In short, not all USB cables will work. If you cant find the one it came with just try another one you might have. I found this out years ago and ended up cutting all the ones that dont have all the wires since it was annoying to find out I wasted time because of a cable.

    I updated my earbuds by my phone and it’s takes forever. Anyways I still have the delay problem should I update the case too or just replace the product?

      I don’t think the case has firmware. You can look at some of the links in the description for tips to unpair, and pair them again. I would just contact Bose support.

    Okay so I purchased a USB cable that was directly from the Bose website and connected it to my soundsport free case with the buds inside, and the Bose updater site is STILL saying "No dice... This product is not supported by the Bose Updater. Try something else." The case is open, and the cable is said to be compatible with the soundsport free. I have no idea what else to do, are there any tips that you have that don't involve purchasing a new pair? I just want these buds to work again.

      I would contact Bose and see what they say. Your not using a USB hub are you? If so maybe try without the hub. Or try a different computer just in case.
      Temporary doable any anti-virus, pop up blocker or ad ware blocker but don’t forget to turn them back on afterwards

      @@roamalot3000 a hub is when you plug one USB cable in and it gives you more USB ports. Yes, a laptop would work.

      @@GadgetReviewVideos Then no, I'm not using a USB hub, its only my computers USB slots, I have a chromebook and I'm not sure it will let me open up the Bose update app page due to an OS error which I'm trying to fix, but could I email Bose about my issue?

      davadaazz use a different micro USB cable, the best would be the cable they came with. Some cables only support charging, thus need to charge and provide the data lines for the update. I have a couple of cables that also don’t work and have run into this a few times.

      En la pagina puedes cambiar el idioma al ingresar... btu.bose.com/ después debes descargar el software para pc o mac y volver a ingresar a la pagina y conectar el equipo con el cable de carga.

      I started doing videos, electronics and reviews to help keep my mind off of some health issues that will keep me awake anyway. But this way I focus my mind on something else and it helps a little. Not many people would notice the 5am on the Mac screen recoding, or the 2am iPhone screen recording. Good attention to detail.
