Boxer Dogs are notorious for being stubborn as boxer owners will know.
Layla is in her comfort zone and adamant not to move.

I have had three females and one male in my lifetime. The male was the easiest to train by far. I currently have a female that is just as stubborn as Layla
The problem with boxers is that they know exactly what they are doing but are experts at acting stupid!
My boxer was stubborn too and also wore knickers when she had her first season as she dripped everywhere. She was also a clown and a destroyer of my best rose bloomes
I realize your comment is 3 years ago, but I have a 8 month old Boxer girl & was wondering your opinion on when to spay?? I'm not planning for her to have puppies, but want the best all around health benefit for her. I just postponed her spay surgery & am thinking of waiting til after 1st heat.. or at 2 years old ?? When they are in lounge mode, they [Boxers] aren't moving unless you physically pick them up, lol.
And even that's difficult because they basically turn into a liquid when you try to physically move them. 😂
And when they are moved they bite you lol

My sarge (10 year old boxer) suddenly becomes deaf too when it’s time for a bath 😂 I especially love when he pretends he can’t see me but is watching me out of the corner of his eye lol I love this breed so much!

Mine (Copper) didn't really mind baths but he seemed to always find something horrible smelling to roll in every time he went outside

I have a terrier x shitzu and guess what? He's just as stubborn when he wants to be! He usually follows commands beautifully but now and then simply doesn't want to. He turns away and won't look at me and pretends he doesn't hear a thing, or tries big sooky eyes! Dogs are the best! 💙

I lost my boy January 29th at 11 years old. I too am heart broken.
Whenever my Boxer goes into "ignore" mode, I have to physically pick him up... and then he become a jello in your arms and its so funny and annoying, but I wouldn't trade it for the world 🤣
I love the quick transition from ‘ignore’ to ‘full attention’ when you say a magic word to them like ‘walk’ or ‘treat’

To everyone saying that this dog doesnt obey and he should only give one command CLEARLY has never owned a boxer lol..Boxers are NOT like typical dogs. They are literally like small children! They understand their owners and are forever 2 year olds! My boxer right now at this very moment is walking around the house crying because she wants another marshmallow from my 10 yr olds lucky charms! I told her no and she is doing everything in her power to get one...sad eyes, whining, sitting her head on my lap...layla is clearly loved and the owner is a excellent pet owner...or should I say dad to a forever 2 year old :)) We love you Layla

Clearly non-owners of Boxers just don;t get and perhaps they never will. Boxers are NOT dogs...they are little children forever. I've always have had 2 white Boxers at any given time and I assure you, I could sit and watch them play for hours because they are so comical and entertaining. My little one named Ophelia has this new thing when she suddenly becomes deaf...I call her and call her, but unfortunately this breed can become deaf in ONE SECOND, than miraculously the hearing comes back. All I have to say is "look" and OMG, Ophelia can hear again...praise the lord for another miracle. LOL

Yeah, I've dealt with enough boxers to know their body language. Layla most definitely knew exactly what she was doing wrong.
Oh my gosh, this reminds me of my Boxer. She’d give direct eye contact, raise her eyebrows, and then turn her head away with a snort or whine.
The more intelligent the dog is the more sassy they are when responding.
I don't think she is stubborn at all. She is just intelligent. She can hear from your voice, that you are just "trying", and not really meaning serious business. :) I wouldn't get down either with that command. :D And when the dog is intelligent, like boxers many time are, they will ask you quite many times, that are you serious. :) Love these animals, so much missing my ex Ben the boxer. Boxers have a lot in common with each other.

Unfortunately we had to put our female boxer down a few weeks ago. Wow, here come my tears. Any way she lived a very great and long life for a boxer (12 yrs 3 mons). She had lost 20 lbs over December /January, I know that's a lot for a dog but she was a good 15 to 20 lbs over weight. Anyway when we took her in to the vet he said she had cancer (nothing they could do) , so he told us to take her home for a few days so everyone could say their goodbyes. When you've raised a dog that becomes a member of your family for over 12 yrs, that is the hardest thing to hear. But I didn't want her to live with any more pain. We live in the country so after they put her to sleep (with her in my arms just the way I wanted it) they wrapped her up in the blanket I gave them (I gave her mine) and we took her to some family land and buried her. I miss her so much. They are extremely smart dogs. Tova knew at least 100 words. What's funny is that sometimes she didn't remember them at all, lol. She was our 3rd boxer over the last 24 yrs. We had two male boxers that were just as great. Please do your due diligence when picking out an animal. With boxers you have to be there with them I would say 75 to 80 percent of the time. They do not know they are pets. They truly believe they are a part of the family, like a pack. If you treat them less than family members you are going to have problems. They are the loyalist dogs I've ever owned. Tova didn't want me to shut the bathroom door. And if I did for privacy sake, she was right there waiting on the other side. In her mind something could have happened to me. Many nights when I struggled with insomnia, she would hang out with me in the garage while I read. No matter how long or how cold it was, she wanted to stay by my side. (I of course would make her a nice comfy and warm pallet to lay on). They are very protective too. We will end up getting another boxer, maybe two this time but I need some time to grieve my VERY BEST FRIEND. They are truly the greatest, a truer friend you will not find. Bye baby girl, momma misses you so much it hurts. But I know that God is love. And all that dog did was love us, so why wouldn't we see her again?
I too had to put my female boxer down bc of cancer in her body. She was my 2nd boxer & I still miss her after 4 yrs. Everything you said is true & dead on about the breed.
I had a male boxer pitbull mix. We put him down a few months ago as well. It's awful. Just awful he was completely fine, but then within a week he deteriorated so quickly. We had to out him down. Saddest day of my life. Seeing the life leave your best friend. I miss him every day.
But it's good to think of the good times. These types of dogs, there is something special about them. They know just what to do to make you feel better. The only thing I hate about them is their life span. It should be longer. Other than that he was perfect.
So sorry to hear about your loss. It is heartbreaking. Our Bella is 10 and already I am dreading the day when we have to say goodbye. I am just trying to enjoy every moment of her while we still have her.
I remember when we had to put our old boxer down. I grew up with this dog and couldn't remember a time without her. The night before she was to be put down was legit the only time I ever saw my dad cry
We have had "our" Cara ("She who gives love" in Latin, and how true that was) from July 2004 until june 2017.
She now and then started having these kinds of seizures. She had the seemingly first grave one on Saturday night, 10 June 2017. That Sunday, she no longer was our Cara, but just an animal... She didn't recognize us any more and didn't react to anything we did or said. All she did was walking around in circles in the garden, stumbling on her feet, probably from brain damage caused by the seizures.
That Sunday she had a second big seizure, and on Monday evening she seemed to have completely been paralyzed on her hind legs.
The vet came and did not give us much (if any) hope. But we already knew that.
I will never forget how early on Monday evening she tried to get up with all the willpower she had, with her paralyzed hind legs, no matter how much we told her it was alright and tried to keep her to lay still on the floor. Then we saw why she wanted to get up : she pooped. Although her "spirit" was destroyed by the seizures, she still remembered her puppy lessons of having to go outside to relieve herself. And this makes my eyes teary.
On Monday evening around 9pm we had the vet come again. She first gave Cara a shot to let her go to sleep, and then a shot that stopped her heart.
When it was all over, she lay on her right side with her eyes closed and her legs spread, in the same way she often used to sleep, and she look just like she was sleeping.
She became 13 years and 11 months old.
Our Cara was the sweetest and most honest creature that I have ever known.

She could be in heat and he doesn't want the blood everywhere. Also she could have a leaky bladder because that is common in boxers. My senior dog had to have a diaper a year or two before she passed because she would pee on the carpet right after she got off the couch. It was instant.

Of all the dogs we have had through the years, we got a boxer bitch 2-3 years ago. I have never seen such a happy, loving (crazily), bonkers and obedient dog. Just amazing.
I have a four year old boxer, Ruby who is certainly getting a bit stubborn, like my two previous girls….it’s a charming trait that shows their true character hasn’t been trained out of them. I just love the look she gives you.

My dog Bella (who is a boxer) used to have her own chair a while ago, but we moved and got rid of it. She doesn’t jump on the furniture now mainly because she is old and fat. Although she definitely is stubborn. It usually takes a lot of calling her name and telling her to come to get her to actually come over to me. But when she finally does, she wags her little stump and gets lots of pets! Love her very much.

My girl Kona does the same thing. We try to get her off the couch sometimes when family's over (so others can sit) and she just loves to sit there. But you can't sit next to her or you have this tank pouncing on you for a solid 30 minutes. Truly great dogs, i've owned labs all my life and I've never thought a boxer would be my new favorite breed!

Me too! Milo had a mast cell tumor that metastasized and was put down in February. My third Boxer, second lost to cancer. Still can't look at a Boxer without my eyes watering.

Hahaha this is amazing. Mine is such a suck. First three years of his life he was a hell spawn. As smart as a German Shepherd, more stubborn than any dog I’ve ever had. He’s gotten better with age and at 7 years old he’s the best dog I’ve ever had. Still thinks he runs the show most of the time but worst case scenario a firm voice reminds him of his place. It’s hard to yell at such a sweet creature though.
