My son brought his worst barking dog to me for three weeks. First day she went half on, half off the puppy pad. We walked past the pad, I stopped and said, in a chilling voice, “I think you can do better than that.” I raised that one from a pup then he took over, so she knew me well (she watched TV with me, loves FaceTime with her). Not one more “half on, half off” episodes. She learned not to bark, in a short period of time. But she’s back home and barks the most, again. It’s pack mentality. @@paddlefar9175 I have seen people building a seperate house for the dog, even we have done the same.along with a small playground for the dogs in front of the house 👍
@@sachinisg it’s not that simple if you don’t also solve the dogs issues and correct them. That won’t stop them from barking at every little thing, it only stops them from doing so in the house if they’re not in the house to bark. At the end of the day, a dog is still a dog, but I have a hard time trying to picture this woman just ditching her dog for a outside dog house especially since she feels so close to him. That dog, even though he’s not properly trained is probably treated a lot better than most people who get a dog and ditch them as they get older for the back yard on a chain. Her emotional attachment to him shows she’s not that kind of pet owner. She definitely needs to work more with the dog to get him to behave better. Doing so is just hard, I’m sure, in her type of situation where she’s to attached to him to fill that emotional void from losing her husband. She seems like a very sweet and lovely woman, however, it takes more than just feeding, grooming and caring for a dog to have them be ‘good’. Most people don’t understand how complex ’pets’ are and how each individual animal has their own way of being on how to care for them in a way that we can understand how their brains work. It’s a bit more than ‘I want a dog to make me feel better’ type of thing and even then more than likely the dog is there to fulfill the humans needs over the animals and I mean no disrespect when I say this, but most people don’t realize that this is a bit on the selfish level. Humans, as intelligent as they are, don’t always get it right even as well intentioned as they may be. Back to my original point, while dogs may be animals, but banishing them to the back yard is not the answer and won’t solve this issue even if you have a really cool set up. So, no, it’s not as “simple” as you may think. Also, what’s the point of having a dog if you just keep them outside all the time especially if you’re going to be ‘lazy’ and not train them? To do so is very irresponsible as a pet ‘owner’ and doesn’t make up for not doing right by your dog thinking you are able to ‘simply’ get off the hook in the much needed training department.
She is not a dog person, she uses the dog as a social comforter and putting all her fears and tears into the dog and then wonders, why he behaves like that, and even then she is putting more negative energy into the poor dog, under the name of comforting the dog, not realising, that she is creating the whole situation. At least thats my opinion. I learned from Cesars TV shows, u have to be the stron person to make the dog feel strong and trust you in your decisions.
She (Leslie) should have gotten herself a quieter pet such as a guinea pig or a cat. Those pets would have given her the affection that she is looking for, and would have been far less noisy. Her grandson wouldn't have felt scared stiff every time that he visited his grandmother either. She is clearly not equipped to handle looking after a dog.
@@darrenmiles-morland8038 i wouldn't go that far...i know many dog people who provide everything they should for their dogs and then some. Yes, but thats animal abuse. It is NOT the husband or a child. Its a dog who needs a loving home not be burdened in such a way with the grief of a person. She should go into bereavement classes, which would help her.
@@tarot-karma-online Animal abuse? Wtf are you talking about, she clearly loves the dog and clearly trying to solve the barking problem. So where is the abuse? She brought the dog in as a companion it's not like she's going home laying on the couch and treating him like a therapist.
@@tarot-karma-online Sorry, but there isn't the slightest abuse going on here at all. It's more of a problem of ignorance by the dog owner and it's not just her. The majority of dog owners assume their dogs can relate to humans in a human way, but they cannot. The majority of dog owners biggest problem comes from how they respond when they don't approve of their dogs behavior inside or outside the home. This lady, clearly wants what's best for her dog, herself and her family. She has developed an emotional attachment to the dog from the void created by her loss. But due to her emotional instability and her misunderstanding of how she relates to her dog, has created unnecessary conflicts and also the unwanted behavior from the dog! A dog will never understand human behavior or emotions, no matter how much we would want that or how often it's portrayed in movies and through the process of conditional interactions! A dog's behavior is based on their instinctive behavioral responses to it's environment. Their instincts are triggered by their environment (that including humans) which leads many dogs to be reactive by the situational conditions within their environment. Instinctive responses can be altered through the use of conditioning, by changing their environmental situations using what each dog instinctively wants or desires. Using the reward process to achieve a particular response and or behavior, conditions their instincts to perform or respond to their instinctive wants or desires! This is by far the most successful method of dog training that is known as the use of conditioning. Very simple, do not give your dog what it wants or desires when it performs behaviors that are unwanted, that includes any affectional acceptance. A dog can sense acceptance, as it's part of their instincts as pack animals. When a dogs behavior is that of what you seek, reward the dog, then repeat, over and over again. It will become conditioned to respond in the same way every time. Once the conditioning has been achieved, you'll no longer have to continue the reward process. The dogs environmental instinctive behavior will have been altered with no harm to the dog or the human! The human doesn't need conditioning, just the understanding of how conditioning works with our domesticated and beloved pack animal, the dog! A warning to all new dog owners, never allow your dog to assume to be the alpha leader of the pack withing your home! They must understand the human is always the alpha at all times. It begins immediately after you bring your new dog home... never allow the dog to do whatever it chooses. Set the boundaries early and stick to them. Otherwise, it will make it very difficult to condition your dogs behavior. Once the dog has asserted itself as the alpha within your home, it will always show a dominant behavior! That's one of the biggest reasons why so many dogs owners give up and give them away to shelters. Remember, dogs will always follow their instincts until you have established the conditional behaviors you seek. As we all know, not every dog is the same, though their instincts basically are, their breed, temperament and disposition are not! That is were Cesar Millan's expertise has risen to a very highly regarded status! As we all know, there are times when any dogs behavior can become unpredictable, the same applies to humans as well!!!
I would love to see some videos talking about breed specific traits/problems to look out for from Caesar's perspective. I love how you interact with all the creatures!
he always says what the breed is doesn't matter, its the human misunderstanding of the breed and misinterpretation. you know a Chihuahua would never be a quard dog. its examples like this
Mirror, mirror - the dog is 4 legged version of Grandma, full of nervous energy. How nice to see a well mannered young man in Mason that can speak with eye contact, respect and confidence and not look at his shoes and communicate with "like" and "in it".
I have 3 pommies that bark at everything. When one barks they all join in. I have had them for 10 years now. Is it too late to fix this problem? What can I do?
Do they know the word no? A lot of these small breeds have no boundaries. They’re in “your” bed, couch, lap etc. They see themselves as equal in the pack. You have to set boundaries. It’s normal for them to bark when they hear car doors slam or commotion outside. It’s the non stop barking that’s the problem. Start by saying no in a firm, loud voice so they know you mean it, maybe block off the triggered area. But start with the main one who starts barking and work your way down. Like ENOUGH MILO !! ENOUGH LULU !! ENOUGH FOXY !! Show your displeased for 15 mins.
@D M Not true. And I never said to use the word no, I like to use OUT. But no is fine. You’re saying any attention is good attention to a dog, we all know that’s not true. A dog has to be taught commands. Just like sit.
99% of the time, its the owners who doesn't know the first thing about raising or training a dog... Its really very seldomly the dogs fault! In this case, this sweet old lade doest have a clue!
Very true, I wish I had more resources personally. Ive known a bunch of dogs that met bad fates because their owners were terrible. Good dogs lost to ignorant owners, always makes me sad.

My dog has a barking problem when my wife is home. He doesn’t bark when I’m alone with him, he just stares at me, lol. With her, it’s not angry barks, but barks that say “I want something!!!” It could be water (we limit his water because he will pee on the floor. He’s an old Corgi/Jack Russel, so his bladder is weaker now. His barks can also be for food and having to potty, and figuring it out was confusing at first, but we now say “show me”, and for potty he heads for the door, for water he looks up and stares at the spot where the water is. We know he wants our love and lap time when he stares at us. Scritches and belly rubs are a rule. Anyway, thank you for making this video. My wife and I have watched many of you videos and we appreciate your dedication not only for the dog- fixing you perform, but informing the public how to handle situations and problems that we all have. And I noticed that the Labrador was wagging its tail when barking without any fur being raised. While it's not pleasant to have a big sized dog pull hard on the leash, I would interpret that kind of barking as playful, attention-seekibg barking, as opposed to vicious, fighting type barking.
This is so devastating. I'm not happy with the tears that I have had to shed with this family. Caesar is a blessing. I'm so glad for his assistance and determination. ❤
why lol. it sounds like her "too cool to hang out with his grandma" grandson is prissy and making an excuse not to see her because he and his mom have no patience. that and/or they all need to get a grip, learn some courage and the grandson should gain some respect/appreciation for the poor lonely grandma. she definitely needs to chill with her tearfulness etc, but it's still important to have family values and see grandparents regardless of if they're perfect or not. the kid honestly seems manipulative. he says he knows the dog is scared of him &won't hurt him, but he's still "scared" to come in.... hm.
@@kejiri3593 _"most people shouldn't own a dog"_ That's; without first learning how to control them... which is something farmers have to learn, so their dogs are good guardians out where wild animals may be lurking and hoping for a chance to catch a tasty chicken.
@@kejiri3593 I agree, overly naive is a good reason (ignorant would be my choice or word). A good example is those dog owners that keep them chained/tied 24/7 disregarding the dog's feelings, emotions, needs, freedom, etc. or even ignoring the law by not providing shelter or sanitation for the dog. And I mean anywhere around the world, many countries don't even legislate how people should treat their dogs... and even where they do legislate dog treatment, some people choose to ignore the law... or are simply mean.

Bless Leslie and her family! I am sorry for her loss. I understand having a companion pet for company, comfort, and affection. In addition, having a dog affords a household a measure of protection and warning. It's so hard to balance a beloved pet with a beloved family member when the pet seems threatening. I have learned from Cesar Millan, that almost no dog is so bad that they cannot be reconditioned with just a little bit of research, quite a bit of attention and retraining, and being consistent. I encourage anyone who has a unruly or unfriendly pet with behavioral problems to simply do some research and maybe buy a book, like one that Cesar Millan published to help you learn how to retrain even older dog so that you can balance family with your companion animals! it can be done. It really can!
Cesar thank you so much for your very informational and loving teachings of our best friends I've learned so much from my pals. And do much from your kind wisdom
That episode was helpful! I just adopted a second a beautiful Sissi a husky of 2 1/2 yo and she is barking at everything for any reason especially around treats and dentastix. She is now barking more and more… I did tried to ignore it. It works sometimes, but now, every time she is barking other than to go outside, I go and ask her to go at the dore mate and sit. I am asking her to stay and I stay there until she is calm. And then I show her attention. It works already after a few time. She doesn’t bark constantly!
My heart goes out to her. The emotional connection that she is looking for, cannot be found in a pet. The way she responds to the dog is more about her & not the needs of the dog
Interesting that Leslie required as much training or more as the dog. It's funny, we are all susceptible to learned behavior that puts us in a vicious self-reinforcing cycle. All of us.
It's been clear since the first time U watched his show years ago. People anthropomorphize pets, assuming they have human emotions and needs. The things that might "comfort" a human just make the dog worse. Cesar always said that the dog needs structure and consistency to be comfortable. Sadly this applies to humans as well, I wish I'd seen this show when my son was little, lol!!

Keep the dog out of the house... simple
@@sachinisg Ha, you don’t need to go that far. Just take charge and demand manners from your dog. It’s not a newborn human baby.

The dog is her husband replacement, hence the emotions.
I pick up on that too.
Basically...the dog is not a person. You do the animal no favours by treating him like one. Cesar sure knows his stuff.

TY!!
