I’ve been working in the oilfield since I was 19 years old, I remember watching this video back in 2009 before I applied to become a Tester, spent 7 years as a Well Tester like the soldiers in this video, I’ve now moved on to the production sector, I’m born and raised in Alberta and extremely proud of my Province, LONG LIVE ALBERTA.

When my daughters were little, like, 3 and 8, we'd play this whole CD at top volume and they'd dance their hearts out with me. (My wife thought we were crazy!) But the music just drives right through you, and the kids could feel it, and just let themselves go with it. It was very, very fun.

"All hell for a basement" is referencing Rudyard Kipling's quote on seeing Medicine Hat's gas and oil fields from a train in 1907:
“This part of the country seems to have -all hell for a basement-, and the only trap door appears to be in Medicine Hat.”

Ever hear of Fort McMurray, if you knew anything about Alberta and the oil fields you'd know that we were drowning in oil and money. Hence the quote "where they've gone all hell for a basement", and another cause for that is inflation... due to the money... from the oil

This is a beautiful video... It made me cry! So many lives are spent working in those fields and there's hardly any art - video, music, books, movies - that capture it. But this video sure does! Thank you.
And thanks Canadian West for the info about Rudyard Kipling...I didn't know that.

As a Newfie who lost his way a few times on the mainland, this song still effects me as much as it did when I first heard it years ago.
I couldn't hack it in Alberta, but at least I made it home alive. Some guys make a nice living for themselves up there, other guys get hooked on something and either come home strung out or just OD or freeze to death on the streets.
Young Newfies should stay home. We have the most beautiful and unique province in the country, and the economy is doing alright.

These days the line "the words are like rope that's wrapped around my throat" are so fucking true.Alberta as Province has contributed without measure....all of those BILLIONS of dollars as it has been for DECADES.....and as the bread provider we are being shit upon for wanting a pipeline to tidewater....at the same time foreign special interest groups PAY people to be professional protesters and try to STOP a pipeline that already exists.
Alberta has PAID more than it's fair share to the rest of Canada for DECADES.....give us the fucking pipeline.
