It was this song on repeat on the radio stations in Grande Prairie back in early 2000’s that helped me know I had made a good move.

Kipling was a heck of a poet. "If" is a masterpiece and so is this tune.

Well holy shit GJ! What a gift you’ve given me today with this video and with this song. I had my fingers crossed that you’d mention the version that includes Sonny’s Dream. I can even clearly see me and my gang in the photo of the Iceberg Alley show. Goosebumps all over again watching this video. Only love from NL to GJ/AJ. Thank you, thank you.

I'm late to this particular party, Gordie, but it sure was fine to see you back in Alberta and sharing this fine tune with us all over again. while listening to the backstory I couldn't help but flash back to the fine music written by Bruce Cockburn for the "Going Down The Road" soundtrack...same folks from Down East, same dream but from a different time...

    I'm a workin' man
    But I ain't worked for a while
    Like some old tin can
From the bottom of the pile
    I have lost my way
    But I hear a tale
    About a heaven in Alberta
Where they've got all hell for a basement
My words are like a rope
    That's wrapped around my throat
    Wash my mouth with soap
    For words unfit to quote
    I have lost my way
    But I hear a tale
    About a heaven in Alberta
Where they've got all hell for a basement
    I have lost my way
    But I hear a tale
    About a heaven in Alberta
Where they've got all hell for a basement
And now I'm free to go
    But time cannot remove
    The only life I know
    Now only time will prove
    Yes only time will prove
If I have lost my way
    'Cause I hear a tale
    About a heaven in Alberta
Where they've got all hell for a basement
    Yeah, I lost my way
    But I hear a tale
    About a heaven in Alberta
Where they've got all hell for a basemen

Im a little ashamed to admit im just now discovering big sugar and you Gordie. I guess retirement gives you some more time to explore my musical interests and im just so proud to see another great Canadian patriot. You're amazing to listen to especially in these sound shack sessions. Im from New Brunswick and we arrived in Edmonton in 1980 but the buble had burst by then with a lot less jobs available. I was a teen and I actually found work at 13, my mom did too and the new life had begun. I washed dished all through high school and I went to work full time 3 days after i graduated high school and never looked back until my heath failed at 40. Alberta has been good to me and its home now. Ive got a welding ticket and the big truck license and everything i ever welded on was for the patch. Trucked lots of stuff up to ft mac too. Your song makes me fiercely proud because no one did a damn thing for me out here. All i have is what i earned and with no dad or brothers around to guide me it was a tough road at times but ive learned anything that's any good is never free and needs hard work and sacrifice to achieve. Ill be sitting back and discovering many more great songs you've done in the future here. You make Canada look good sir!

About 30 yrs ago, were you ever in a pawn shop in Surrey? Met a young kid and asked him: show me what you got kid. I played Sad but true. You laughed and said good job. Do you know any blues? Lol I had only been playing for 2 months at that point on my home stereo with a 100$ guitar and needed an amp. You showed me my first tube amp. I hope that was you cuz I've been telling this story for 30 yrs lol.😅 Thanks for your music brother. Saved me, a single Dad who was losing a depression battle. All heel would make me tear up. Still does.

Yer gonna laugh...saw you @ KDays in Edmonton in 2011...a buddy of mine from TheBear had gave my daughter meet n greet passes for her birthday and ironically BigSugar has always been 1 of her favourite bands...well heres her and me and I'm preggers with little sister at the time...you hit the opening chord on the hydra for AHFAB and Rookie (oldest daughter) is off like a shot for the stage with her uncle, and I'm steamin up the rear like a bloody tugboat tryin to keep up...Dean McM is videoing you guys and I can be heard sayin "scuze me, pardone darlin...comin thru!" on the.audio...to this day the one I was pregnant with LOVES AHFAB and says "i have always loved this song but i don't know why" and we tell her its cause I smuggled her in to a Big Sugar concert!
