Would you do this modification to your OEX Jackal 2?
Great Idea. Do you think more Velcro pads would do the trick too?
Yeah defiantly if you get some of the heavy duty velcro and put a strip the full length. @@bobbnudd2502
excellent job - well done.
@AloneAdventures you could sew on a velcro fastened flap that covers the vent, when the wind really gets up (as you found) the air gets funneled to that part of the tent and just blows it right in.
I also had problems with the wind slowly opening the door zips from both the top and bottom as well.
I've just bought this tent today and put it up in the back garden. Very happy with it apart from the velcro bit which I thought was a bit poor. I think your solution is perfect and should be as supplied by oex. Thanks for taking the time to do a vid on it, I will defo do this mod. I would really appreciate the zip if no one else has asked yet. Best of luck with the job situation. Cheers Rob.
It’s a good tent for the money and does well in strong winds but that door was just not thought of properly so the little mod works a treat. Glad you enjoyed the mod. Send me over your address to my email alone_adventure_@outlook.com and I will get it popped out to you.
You have a nice garden
I just pitched up there not sure who's garden it is but the pitch was free lol
Great mod with the tent .
Looking forward to seeing more
Adventures . Hope your ok and thanks for the updates 😎
I am all good now life throws challenges at you but it's how we overcome them that defines our path. We live we learn we move forward! Hope you are well too?
Hi again .Great idea.I went to alpkit, and they supplied the zip and work on it,zip works easily inside or outside.Quality.£30.00
Hi, did you sew the zip in yourself or did someone at alpkit do it? I'm horrific at sewing. Thanks!
I've just purchased this tent, none of the other reviews mentioned this issue so good to know, thanks! Shame I don't have a sewing machine though (and guessing the zip has gone now anyway) but I'll have to work something out though even if it's hand sewing as that flapping would be really irritating.
You could always put some additional Velcro across the front to bolster up the 3 small straps
@@AloneAdventures yes that's a good idea and I was thinking that myself as I have some sticky backed velcro strips already, though I'd use some additional flexible glue to secure them. My only hesitation though is that velcro is a pain as I'm often snagging clothes and catching my hair on anything that has it. My hair is thick and all the way down my back so catches easily. Maybe I should try and see if I can borrow a sewing machine from someone - though I haven't used one or sewn a zip since I was at school. 😳
Good vid mate 👊.
I had one of these tents when I started out there pretty decent in winter
Yeah it was my starter tent when I first went on a wild camp. Although I have accumulated a fair few more since lol. I like that it is a pretty decent 3 season tent yet to try it in the cold winter months.
@@AloneAdventures
I use my msr Hubba Hubba Nx for 3 seasons and use 3F UL GEAR Taiji 2 for winter with the 4 season inner .
Just planing a hike in the Yorkshire dales at the moment . I normally make my own hikes up on all trails and download to my garmin fenix watch .
The Msr Hubba tents are quite popular Great tent for the summer months and I though about getting the Taiji 2 a while ago. I like to plan my own routes I use OS maps do you pay a subscription for All trails?
@@AloneAdventures
Yeah I pay for yearly subscription.
Really love the app been using it for 3 years now .
I some times upload the hikes I have made to all trails and they add them for other people to walk .
Nice I do have the app just never paid as I pay for the subscription on OS maps to give me the premium topo map which I love might have a look at all trails as always love to find new places and trails to go on.
Good to see you again mate. I hope it all pans out well for you. Looking forward to more videos.
Great mod, by the way. I'd be cockahoop if I could do as neat a job as that.
Thanks mate good to be back behind the camera lol. As they say slow and steady wins the race just took my time I thought I would ruin the first one hence the second zip!
Good luck with the van purchase.
Thanks 😊
Great job done.Would you put the zip outside in,so you can close/open easily when you want to come out!Whats your thought. Thanks again.Great idea.🏴
Great idea, wish had Gran to sew😅 so bulldog grips for me
I actually did the sewing she just pointed me in the right direction 😊 if you take your time it’s pretty simple to do.
Think ill try this mod. Thanks very much
Give it a go alternatively you could just add more Velcro.
Only just discovered your page but glad to hear you're back out there! Would you recommend this tent for a couple to sleep in? I've looked around and really like the look of it - went to Go Outdoors recently to see this and the Coyote 3 in real life but they didn't have the Jackal 2 out and Coyote 3 looked massive! Would be good to hear it from someone who has it in person! Keep going with your videos, love learning from them!
Hi Toni I would say this tent is more preferred as one person and there stuff. You could get to people in but maybe tight but I suppose it’s personal preference. Are you looking to single or multi day trips?
@@AloneAdventures thank you!! Probably 1 or 2 days at most x
I would probably say the Jackall 2 is really only for a single person to be comfort 2 people. You probably need to think more if it’s raining and you stuck in the tent would be a struggle to move. Have you looked at any other brands of tents?
@@AloneAdventures there's the Naturehike Cloud Peak 2 which has had some recommendations and also the Banshee 3 - there's a lot of options out there but struggling to make a decision. The ideal tent would be if they made the Coyote but a 2 man version as that has the porch part for added space
I have the Cloud Peak 2 nice tent I like it what is better with it is that it has two doors and vestibule areas so ideal if there is 2 of you to put your gear either side plus you have access to get in and out without disturbing the other person
Great mod how did you deal with sewing the ends of the zips as they don't line up neatly ?
I kept the zip together clipped it to the part I was seeing to the tent then clipped the other part to the tent and unzipped it to sew the last part on hope that helps
