Solatorobo and the first two Ar tonelico games. I guess they aren't the HARDEST games to emulate or even play but you tell me the last time you even knew where your DS was, much less dusted it off to play (not counting Austin who does it for videos). Ar tonelico has roms of course, even has a better fan translations but implementing it is more annoying than it needs to be and every year that passes my original PS2 discs get closer to disc rot.
I think that BB second Attack runs better on Project 64 2.0 or 2.1 with the Jabo Pluggins. Also, I'm surprised that Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon for N64 it's not even mentioned.
Absolutely, there's some games I'll be damned if I'm paying hundreds to play as well. Plus my CD laser on the ps2 hasn't worked in years so thank God for free mcboot.
JSRF is one of my all time favorite games, and you're 100% right that barely anyone outside of deep corners of the internet has ever even mentioned. Most only ever bringing up JSR, like it's the only one, and despite the massive improvements to the controls, visuals, and gameplay. I have so many fond memories of JSRF, and it's a shame nobody can easily play it.
@poopybody1469 Absolutely, my wife even bought me an original stand alone (not the bundle with Sega GT 2002) for one of our early anniversaries. It's one of my all-time favorite games as well.
I remember playing it on the original Xbox back in 2003. Then I sold the console and games and recently rebought it because of a video I saw in Modern Vintage Gamer's channel. The game still holds up and I can easily recommend anyone picking up an OG Xbox to apply a modchip and a few other things to make it an awesome experience. Most of the games in that generation had better resolution/framerate there. I had a lot of fun 100% Jet Set Radio Future and when I went to play Jet Set Radio I was kind of disappointed that the controls were a little too stiff.
I’ve been watching your videos for 8 years now, and yet I am still consistently astounded by the depth of knowledge you have for forgotten/non-mainstream games.
I’d love to see you make a PSP retrospective video. I was in love with the PSP as a kid and played tons of different games and homebrew on it, but it doesn’t get nearly as much attention as other handhelds. If nothing else, it deserves recognition for bringing true 3D gaming to the portable space.
Kid Icarus Uprising is one of my favorite games ever and it pains me that the game is stuck on a device with a small low-res screen that gives you carpal tunnel. You can't even really emulate it very well because the controls are so specifically designed for the 3DS. Even Wii games, you can tie the pointer to the mouse and shakes to buttons and it can feel okay, but the flick-to-turn thing just doesn't work on anything but a touch screen.
Yeah, as much as I adore the game, it’d could really use an HD rerelease. And since the Switch both has dual sticks and a much higher install base than the 3DS, along with bringing back the really fun and in-depth Light vs. Dark multiplayer, it’d definitely sell like hotcakes.
@@gabbagoo9774 PS1? You're thinkng of Dragon Quest 7 if you mean the Playstation 1. I was talking about Dragon Quest 8 which was on the Playstation 2. But if you want my opinion on DQ7 on PS1, its pretty good albeit it very long and grindy. They made a remake for it on the Nintendo 3DS. Dragon Quest 8 on PS2 was much better imo though.
Everything from Clover that's not Okami deserves a spotlight in a video like this. It's so weird that Okami's guaranteed to get a port to whatever the latest consoles are, but games like Viewtiful Joe and God Hand are stuck.
I know Wild Arms XF was only mentioned in passing, but a spiritual successor to Wild Arms is getting made. It's called Armed Fantasia and was fully funded on Kickstarter, along with a Shadow Hearts successor called Penny Blood. It was called a "Double Kickstarter". On topic, Skies of Arcadia is stuck on the Dreamcast and Gamecube. One of my all time favorite RPGs ever! Totally agree with the need for better game preservation.
Thanks so much for mentioning Jet Set Radio Future. If I'm not mistaken, Phil Spencer mentioned being unable to get licenses for the game's music, leading to it being stuck on the 360's emulation.
God, I miss Maximo. That was my shit back in the day. So many good games that could use a rerelease. With how big retro gaming has become with streaming, they’d be a lot bigger now than they were back in the day.
In this week's Digital Foundry Direct they mentioned that an unnamed executive (presumably at Microsoft) is a big JSRF fan and tried hard as hell to get it backward compatible but there was some serious licensing issues that just couldn't be overcome
@@inorite4553 no cause he really wanted to work with Jet Set it’s his best work, and he made music for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk which was an attempt to be like Jet Set Radio without the licensing. Too many people had their hands in the license teapot.
The moment you started talking about Super Nintendo RPGs I screamed "TERRANIGMA"!!! and sure enough, there it is. I love this game so much. Still have the giant box with the walkthrough that Nintendo released in Europe at the time. Such a lost gem.
Older games can be easily emulated, but the worst case is with games that are old enough to be out of current generation and/or back compat, but at the same time "new" enough to be hard to emulate, such as Project Gotham Racing 4 (X360), Def Jam: Fight for NY (Xbox, PS2) and Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3). I literally still keep my PS2 and X360 because of these games
Reminded of a Xenosaga Remastered Collection for modern platforms Katsuhiro Harada advocated for that was cancelled due to lack of perceived interest. All stuck on PS2 exclusively.
I think it comes down to the multiple developers and licensing that makes it difficult to do anything with the Xeno series. Xenogears was Squaresoft then moved to Namco with Xenosaga. Xenoblade is under Monolith now. I would love remaster of Xenogears and Xenosaga though. I never got a chance to really get into Xenosaga.
@@Fade2BlackSS I get Xenogears being stuck with Square, but Monolith Soft and Nintendo have a good relationship with Namco these days so a Xenosaga collection shouldn't be so hard. KOS-MOS is even in Xenoblade 2.
@@KinglyRed Xenosaga III in particular is based af, and it’s also a rare game going for hundreds of dollars because it’s stuck on one console. I think it comes down to Bamco not thinking it would do well enough in the market
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron DID get a re-release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in August 2016. But unlike the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, they were DIGITAL ONLY. Which means those versions are now forever lost to the flow of time.
Not really, there’s cleaver ways to play these old games tbh, like for PlayStation if you have ps3 backwards compatible, and a ps5, there’s nothing you can’t play. Golden sun, get a GameCube with that hdmi adapter outputs atleast 480p up scales to 1080 via hdmi, use the game boy player.
Really pleasantly surprised to see so much coverage of Bomberman 64: The Second Attack. I remember being very excited to play it, especially because of the co-op. We even named our Pomeranian after Pommy, though most people just thought we were very uncreative with naming our dog
The whole “hidden gems” collecting fad was a mistake. So many fantastic games are becoming increasingly inaccessible because of random assholes trying to make a quick buck on eBay.
Liscensed games are some of my favorites titles of this type. Games like Deadpool or Adventure Time games were kind of the main reason I got an xbox one, physical copies of delisted ones.
Can add: X-Men Origins Wolverine Uncaged Edition, Chronicles of Riddick Escape From Butcher's Bay and Dark Athena, and The Punisher 2005 to the list too. None are available on any current consoles and pc. Didn't the Deadpool game get remastered for PS4 and Xbox One? Guess the digital copies were delisted.
@@Gruntvc Punisher 2005 could technically be re-released nowadays since the developer still exists But the only issue is said developer. Volition made the game but with how they handled the new Saints Row, maybe it's best that Punisher stays on older hardware
@DaGeekyBoi, The Punisher license is also owned by Disney now. And they hate this character. I wouldn't trust Volition to ever make a good game again, let alone remaster one of their past gems. But Embracer can get the devs responsible for the two Destroy All Humans remakes. They seem to care. Volition is done, they refused to listen to the fans for years. They deserve to be shut down.
I played Maximo Ghosts to Glory in a Target electronics department as a demo, must have been 2001-2002. I have not been able to find the game since then. Googling "old sword game where your armor falls off when damaged" gives mixed results to say the least. I can finally sleep in peace now, thank you Austin.
Treasure seriously need to put together a collection for all their amazing games that never get ported. Would love to see Mischief Makers come to newer platforms. Also, Sunsoft's Batman absolutely needs to be shown some appreciation. Great video.
The fact that people don't know what I'm talking about when I say Treasure is my favorite developer of all time is really depressing. Gunstar Heroes and Ikaruga are some of the greatest games of all time, and Radiant Silvergun remains incredibly difficult to successfully emulate.
@@CheddarDrip I don't have friends that play games at all, so I understand the sentiment. Also, those games you mentioned all have ports on the Switch.
There was something so unique about those n64 Bomberman titles especially the first and Second Attack. Not only Mitsuda, but like 2/3 of the composers that worked on Xenoblade 2 and 3! It's hard to believe that was their first collaboration.
I would say, any classic computer games back from the 80's and 90's would be nice to see somehow available to modern system. And I do not mean DOS-based games, but rather those that were present in Japanese computers, like the famous PC-98. Some of them managed to get emulated thanks to the community, but most are not acessable outside of the system. And it is a shame, because these games really offered an unique artstyles and design
I mostly use DOSBox-X for PC-98 and am just starting to look into PC-88, have explored more MSX games than either of these two. That makes me think I really should see if I can get Rusty to run on my phone.
there's a really good JSRF port in VRChat as a map under the name "JSR Festival". I haven't played the original but fell in love with playing it in VRChat. Tons of fun
@@shetto I know some people who had motion sickness starting out in VR and within a little while of using it their body adjusted and it went away. Seems pretty common.
Legally Acquired Game - A Real Gameboy Color! Every time you do a little segment like this, it never fails to make me laugh. That is exactly why I love watching your video's Austin.
18:02 SSX3 CAN be bought and played on Xbox One (and I can only assume Series consoles). Something I was really happy to find out about a little while ago so if this helps someone out, awesome.
Props for shouting out Rocket Knight. My mom bought it for me randomly because she came across it in a bargain bin and thought Sparkster was Sonic. I was initially disappointed because I had never heard of Rocket Knight and my mom got me hyped for a surprise Sonic game, but I loved that friggin game once I got to playing it. Big memories.
This made me realize how thankful I should be that the SaGa games are as accessible as they currently are, sure there's an overall heavier reliance on emulation but the fact that the translations and the remasters have come out in midst of a tunnel visioned Square Enix makes these less recognized titles at least playable.
For a huge anniversary video, could you please do a video that covers all the Bomberman 64 games? I know you made one in the past, but I'd love to have your current day approach to the video game reviews and retrospectives tackle it once again. Otherwise, thank you again for the phenomenal video. I love your content and legitimately do light up when I see that you've uploaded.
I've recently replayed a bunch of PS1 classics with an online emulator, and games like Megaman legends 1,2 & Tron Bonne's adventure, Front Mission 3 etc hold up extremely well. It's such a shame that I couldn't play them with modern console but I'm just happy that these games are still awesome.
Thanks for mentioning Terranigma! As someone from germany, i had the joy to play it back on my snes like 25 years ago. We didn't had FFVI and Chrono Trigger, which i replayed some years later on PC, Terranigma is still my absolute favorite snes/jrpg and in my top 3 games of all time, with my favorite soundtrack and video game ending. It's sad there is no digital release or something for this or the Illusion of Gaia/Time or Soul Blazer. I think last year or 2020 there was a petition to re release the game which i signed with many supporters, too bad it went nowhere 😔
Oh, that Bomberman Second Attack game looks cool. Reminds me a little bit of the Japanese only Bomberman Kart DX on PS2 that had a dungeon crawler mode.
Konami, Capcom and Square Enix have been pretty good with their remasters/collections in recent years. Hopefully the sales are good so they see that people are still interested in these old games! What I would like to see most of all is a Goemon collection from Konami, a Breath of Fire collection from Capcom, and a lot more SNES/PS1 remasters from Square Enix.
Yeah I mean I never expected that Square Enix would give us re-releases of almost the entire SaGa series from SaGa 1-3, HD versions of Romancing SaGa 2+3, SaGa Frontier and now the remake of Romancing SaGa 1, Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song HD. let alone a full remake of Live A Live with talk of doing more of their back catalog in HD 2D as we as the older Dragon Quests. Plus the first three Front Missions. Hell still recovering from the classic Konami Ninja Turtles games getting a re-release after all these years
A spiritual successor to Kirby Air Ride’s city trial is an indie game called Town of Trials, which is still being worked on. I’d prefer an air ride rerelease/sequel, but it seems like right now this is the closest thing we’ll get. City trial has an unbelievable amount of replayability
Great series. Badly translated GBA ports aside. BOFIII and IV are highlights for me. Old school switch puzzles and a big grind are the only real criticisms. Would pay for modern remaster or even ports to the modern systems. A nice collectors edition would work as well. Jet Set Radio. Be cool to see an upscaled port with HD art/modern graffiti tropes. The sound mix is one of my fave aspects of the game series. I think the big problem for a JSR would be music licensing.
I'd like to see that too. And a deep dive into Dragon Quarter because that game is such an interesting departure for the series, one that is largely misunderstood and an underappreciated gem in my opinion.
Terranigma is one of my childhood games and is still in my top 10 favourite games of all time. I've given up all hope of seeing a rerelease though. Also Skies of Arcadia being stuck on Dreamcast and Gamecube is a crime, especially with Sega loving to reference it every so often.
I seriously cant think about Bomberman 64 The Second Attack without tearing up. That game meant a lot to me as an 8 year old, let alone today. As soon as i get enough cash, i'm buying a n64 with an everdrive to play this with someone special.
The other day one of my coworkers was talking about a game he played as a kid and could never find the name of or anything, and nobody he ever talked to about the game has any idea what game it was. I asked him to describe it and he was like "Uhh... Its kinda cartoony, and you gotta bomb each other" soon as he said bomb and cartoony I pulled up screenshots from the bomberman games and finally gave this man closure lol

blew my mind that the "unofficial/spiritual" sequel to Shadows of the Damned was hidden in a level of Travis Strikes Again. Altho pretty short, it really sucked me in when i connected the dots between that and the EA published game and how that experience must have been for Suda51 during game development.
"Unless your name is Dragon Quest, the Enix side of Square Enix doesn't get much love" Even Dragon Quest doesn't get the love it deserves outside Japan. We're still missing Dragon Quest X, a 10 year old game, and in my opinion, the best of them all. Even the offline remake (the original was an MMORPG) that just came out in Japan is not planned for any worldwide release. Not to mention spinoffs like Dragon Quest Monsters which hasn't seen a release outside Japan for at least 7 games, and the Dragon Quest Mystery Dungeon games featuring Torneko Taloon from DQ4 and Yangus from DQ8, only one of which was ever released outside Japan (though this subseries has been dormant for a long time even though the wider Chunsoft Mystery Dungeon series the first game spawned continues to this day).
With Golden Sun in the thumbnail it actually reminded me of how there’s a couple sequels that I don’t think most people know exist since the only recognition I see for Golden Sun is for the first one. Was playing through Dark Dawn earlier this year and it’s honestly probably better than the og. I’m not surprised the chances of it being ported are incredibly low even in comparison, though.
As far as I can tell, when people talk about "Golden Sun", they're including the first two games. They were both pretty well known. Dark Dawn is the odd one out that released almost ten years later.
As a huge Golden Sun fan, since like, 2005 lol... I gotta admit it, Dark Dawn is an amazing game. I don't believe it to be better than the first two games, but it's still a damn good entry in the series.
I think most people that know Golden Sun know about The Lost Age, but the third one, Dark Dawn on the DS, is definitely a sleeper. It was a little disappointing but a solid JRPG nonetheless.
Thanks for this PSA. So many gems, RIP. It makes the journey so much more worth it if you can find an old game from your childhood or just a rom and get the emulator running. Luckily indie game devs have not forgotten. The inaccessibility is sort of creating this void where indie games that stylize and make the most of new and old design elements are the new trend and I love it. Creates a lot less dilution among modern games. It's bittersweet. Classics are fleeting but their successors are laying some great ground work for videogames in general.
I’ve got a recommendation: The Fatal Frame series. Most seem to just have the original release and PS3 digital rereleases. I’m keen to dive in to these games soon and would happily buy a new form of them.
I agree with you. It seems like up until now we're FINALLY getting software capabilities catching up to our modern advanced hardware technology. Until now, we've had improving hardware, yet our software systems are still limiting and holding us back so much at (how games are made, how they can be built, rendered, how the gameplay feels, how tedious things are, etc. Etc.) For me, I have been barely interested in many games for quite some time. Then I saw The Calisto Protocol coming out and honestly it's a game I am most excited for in SUCH A LONG TIME. Glen Schofield is so good at putting together amazing team's. They have so much passion into their project. They've put so much effort and complexity into the gore effects, physics effects, atmosphere, environment, gross & grime, yet it's oddly facinating & amazingly facinating to look at. I'm so excited. This dev team seems so good and passionate about what they do and create. It gives me vibes to the best of the good old days of the Xbox 360 era games. Finally something like that but with the capabilities of the modern day and used in actually good effective ways. It's crazy how rare it has been to see something like that. We've been going through a long slump in gaming quality lately for the past few years imo. So I'm hoping this is the start to a new chapter of good games coming back. Me personally, I care way less about graphics, ray tracing, etc. Compared to how much I care about physics builds, good enemies good a.I., physics effects related to combat and environmental aspects, character movement. Like being able to move around uniquely, climb, etc. Really letting us explore and play around with well built game mechanics in a polished environment. That's what matters to me. (BTW I got a range of old gaming systems so I can play old games because I to this day find myself enjoying them more than the majority of current era new games. I got a original Xbox. A 360, Gameboy color, Gameboy Advanced, N64) I have been loving going back and playing Max Payne 1 and 2, red dead Revolver, Alan Wake, skate 1, dead space 1&2, condemned, halo1-3, assassin's Creed 1 and 2, GTA 3-4, doom 3, L.A Noire, Singularity, Batman origins, etc. I have just been utterly loving diving back into these games. I just easily get playing and turn my brain off, and lose myself into the mindless video game experience. When they focused on if a game felt good to play, or was fun, catchy gameplay)
You know what is an incredible forgotten game. Rhythm Thief on the 3ds, it's gotta be one of my favorite hidden gems, right up there with Blinx 1 on the OG Xbox
Videogame preservation is a sad sad affair and we have the companies vilifying emulations or going after rom sites. Imagine like 50 years from now when ps4 and ps5 era games will no longer be accessible anymore.
But at least Sega did something about it, Sega has given us the Sega collection( that has 50 games including the Sonic quadrilogy mind you) on the switch for $30 bucks, and then you can get 50 sega games from steam on any emulator for the same price. It may not be much, but again at least Sega did something about it. I just hope the other game companies take sega's approach and start to appreciate that emulation is hoping the gaming community and the companies in the long run.
The fact that I can play Herzog Zwei on my switch is crazy. I was hoping it would be a trend (it wasn't). Still hoping for Mischief Makers& Skies of Arcadia to appear on anything.
I'm immensely bitter about the lack of re-releases for the Armored Core series. It was the God Damn 25th Anniversary of the series this year and FromSoft has said basically nothing. Some day, Raven, we'll fly again...
Huh, I always wondered which first FPS game was that brough the camera control that we know in modern games. Never would have guessed it to be Aline Resurections.
I would love to see your take on the legacy of kain series and what the series could do to revamp or recapture what made it so unique. But the type of content you put out now is very good to garnish attention not just to what were fan favourites but also forgotten but stellar games that were just released usually at unfortunate times. It's good to see you clear and talk about what you want to talk about it because then you can tell enjoyment in your voice when you talk about these things, and that's what's most important that you continue to do stuff you want to do, but honestly giving any up and coming or forgotten or struggling series that deserves some love because it is a good game, then that is also something I would very much be interested in watching and sharing with people.
The first game that comes to mind for me is Burnout 3: Takedown, such a good game but it sucks not being able to play it on Xbox One or any modern consoles! I have so many good memories of me visiting my cousins house where he had a 360 and racing against each other and trying to beat each others scores in crash mode. I would kill for that game to be remastered or at least made backwards compatible!
@@DRCEQ True, and Paradise is actually my favorite Burnout game! Mainly since I'm a sucker for open world games, but Burnout 3 is easily my second favorite and holds a special place in my heart. I'm guessing the main reason it hasn't been re-released is due to licensing issues they'd have with the music but I'm still gonna hold on to hope
It would also be sweet to play need for speed underground 2... I'm sure licensed music would make that a hard port though... cannot even imagine that game without Lil John and the Eastside Boyz
I replayed the Maximo games a couple years back, in part because I thought to convince myself that they couldn't possibly hold up to my memories and I should just let them go. What can I say, I'm weird that way. Turns out Maximo still fucking rules. Who knew. Always makes me a touch sad whenever it gets brought up. A little bummed he wasn't in Marvel vs Capcom 3 too, would've been perfect alongside Viewtiful Joe and Amateratsu. Rip buddy. You save the world twice.
FFTA is still the only FF game I've ever played all the way through. Something about a game called "Final Fantasy" telling a gripping tale of dealing with trauma through escapism was meta as fuck and really compelling.
Fun fact: Sega actually put 12 unlock-able game gear games in the GameCube version and 2004 PC port of Sonic Adventure DX! They got removed after later versions though for unknown reasons :/
Always enjoy seeing your uploads pop up in notifications. As a person who talks about JSRF way too much, I’m glad it’s getting mentioned as a game that needs a port to the modern age, just so it can be enjoyed like the original. PC would definitely be ideal but even playing it on Xbox Series X upscaled potentially to 4K would be a dream (into night). From what’s been done with emulation, the game’s cel shading really pops at high resolutions. I’m hoping it’ll happen at some point. If not, we can always play Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
Great video! Some other SRPGs I badly want to see get a Switch/PC port: Shining Force 3, Dark Wizard, and the Tellius Fire Emblem games (Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn).
I watched this video already several days ago, yet it still stays on my mind. I feel like that with almost every video you release, this is some real YT magic here! Please keep being awesome :)
You can still buy games on Nintendo's website version of the eShop. The 3DS and Wii U stuff is still there and can be purchased directly on there. And if you add funds to your Switch, you can also use that balance directly on the consoles themselves. I think you will be able to do that until March next year, at which point yes it will be impossible
A topic I'm massively passionate about... and your absolutely right, more company's should port these games so we can play them easily. Note: play keio flying squadron 2 on the sega saturn... one of the biggest amazing gems on that system and NO ONE talks about it. Play it, emulate it! Just try it at least lol it's awesome!
You know, given that it was Enix who bought out Square to create Square-Enix, it's odd how little love they've given to the Enix side of the equation...
Probably because Enix, unlike Square never actually made games. They were just a publisher and all their catalog is games made by other developers like Dragon quest was made by Spike Chunsoft. So it's possible depending on the terms of the publishing they neve retained rights past a certain point, shared them or if they did have full rights they could have let them lapse. Don't know as Japanese copyright laws are likely very different than US ones
"Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes" on the Nintendo Switch has an entire stage based on "Shadows of the Damned". And in typical Suda51 style, you're thrown directly into the game's world with ZERO explanation as to who is who and what in the fresh hell is going on.
Robotrek was one of my favorite games back in the day. Me and my friends used to play Mr. Roboto every time I fought a boss in the game for "inspiration"
It baffles and offends me that ubi has the “Ubisoft classics +” collection and there’s NO rainbow six vegas… how? Of the like, 4 ubi games that have ever been worth playing, that game is number 1
Funny thing, I do still have my 360 hooked up. And that's because not all my games on it are playable on the XB1. Such as many Arcade titles, Kinect titles, and random other titles.
I'm just thankful for all the emulators out there. Been playing PS1 stuff like crazy lately and I'm having a blast! It's crazy that a lot of old games are way better than most modern games coming out. No microtransactions and finished products, those were the good days.
Gotta love some old games. Some of those gems are stuck because they wouldn't be suitable for * cough* modern audiences *cough*. Seriously, a lot of AAA companies will invest more and more to attract the new generation then to support the old one. As for emulation support, well you showed the numbers. The community are not going to pay that ridiculous ammount to have a fidelity rom. I remember even Zelda Ocarina of Time to have lots of issues with emulation to this day. Emulation is just there to relieve our nostalgia after all. And we appreciate that. Thanks for the entertainment.
The only Super Nintendo RPG I hear less about than say something like terranigma (which I've played it's great) or Dragon Quest in the west is Ys V. I just finished it and while I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece on the level of Final Fantasy 6 it is also far far from being a bad game
Ys 5 is fun. I played through it with emulation a few years ago. I beat it without using magic at all completely by accident. Not a difficult game, but fun.
Ever do a list about your personal biggest gaming mistakes? One of mine came to mind when you mentioned the AMPED series. When I got my original Xbox, it was being sold only in a bundle ($500 for the system, extra controller, dvd remote and 3 games) and I picked Tony Hawk 2X (great), the original Shrek (never finished it) and AMPED 1. I literally had Halo 1 in my hand and didn't think my dad would buy it for me (I was turning 14 at the time). Then I got home and 2 weeks later got it on my birthday. I HATED AMPED. lol. Never got used to it and spent HOURS trying to not suck at it (never happened). Then I heard SO MUCH about Halo in the weeks after my poor decision. lol. Eventually earned enough money to buy Halo and loved it.
Battle Golfer Yui, published by Sega for the Mega Drive is actually another game stuck on the system. It's a Golfing JRPG that never left Japan and has never been rereleased to this day. It has a very good fan patch and it's relatively affordable on the second hand market if you wanna opt for the authentic route.

I have so many fond memories of JSRF, and it's a shame nobody can easily play it.
It came bundled with my xbox and to this day its one of favourite games ever
I keep an Xbox original and a copy of jsrf just because it’s my #1 all time. The art. The Music. The style. The gameplay. It’s perfect🥲
Jet Set, Jet Set, Jet Set, Jet Set Radio groooovy. Jet Set Radio!!
Still listen to the soundtrack almost every day. Phenomenal time to be alive. ❤️
I’ve been watching your videos for 8 years now, and yet I am still consistently astounded by the depth of knowledge you have for forgotten/non-mainstream games.
legendary effort.
That's what my teachers think of my work too, but i'm an idiot and i just know how to use the internet
This dude takes one for the team. Years of content and still only 200k subs. I struggle to finish videos still, but goddamn he is a gamer
weird thing to randomly say but ok
Also it annoyed me when Dragon Quest 8 got ported.......to smartphones and 3DS ugh.
Yeah, as much as I adore the game, it’d could really use an HD rerelease. And since the Switch both has dual sticks and a much higher install base than the 3DS, along with bringing back the really fun and in-depth Light vs. Dark multiplayer, it’d definitely sell like hotcakes.
@@budgiecat9039 Hey, I have that game for the PS1! Got it free, too.
Is it a good RPG?

They made a remake for it on the Nintendo 3DS.
Dragon Quest 8 on PS2 was much better imo though.
Couldn’t have said it better! Hoping for a switch port someday
Viewtiful Joe 1 and 2 really need a spotlight on a list like this.
extremely underrated series
@@bpbennick9318 Yes. I will likely lets play 1 and 2 soon.
I backed both of those! And yes i want skies of arcadia so bad that and both baten kaitos
With how often i hear people praise that game i wonder why we don't even get ports.
I bet it had to do with all the music.
LUFIA 2!!!
Well def jam fight for NY plays flawlessly on pcsx2. Played it yesterday
Reminded of a Xenosaga Remastered Collection for modern platforms Katsuhiro Harada advocated for that was cancelled due to lack of perceived interest. All stuck on PS2 exclusively.
That's insane to me, Xenoblade is bigger than ever and having all the Saga games on Switch would be huge
@@RayOfTruth Oh, I didn't know that. That's pretty cool.
@@KinglyRed Xenosaga III in particular is based af, and it’s also a rare game going for hundreds of dollars because it’s stuck on one console. I think it comes down to Bamco not thinking it would do well enough in the market

I’d definitely want Rocket Knight to be re release.
can you keep making more of these, because every time you make one of these, a rerelease or remaster for at least one of them gets announced
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron DID get a re-release on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in August 2016. But unlike the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, they were DIGITAL ONLY. Which means those versions are now forever lost to the flow of time.
Golden sun is definitely an amazing game!
For now, only emulation can get the job done

Shhhh. Don't say that word. You'll summon... him.
TRUE. I want Persona 2 so bad but it looks like I'll have to save up for like a year or more to buy a used copy
it's an absolute travesty that the last console on which we can play Skies of Arcadia is the Gamecube. That game is a masterpiece.
@@Gruntvc Punisher 2005 could technically be re-released nowadays since the developer still exists
But the only issue is said developer. Volition made the game but with how they handled the new Saints Row, maybe it's best that Punisher stays on older hardware
I really enjoyed Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage?!! On 3DS
@@statesminds Let's Explore the dungeon: Because I don't Know! was my entry point lol, but yea I have that on steam. Will play someday.

The PC-88 games and up are sooo nice and love the visual style. The Legend of Heroes, Dragonslayer, Ys, Xak 🔥👏🏼 amazing
I mostly use DOSBox-X for PC-98 and am just starting to look into PC-88, have explored more MSX games than either of these two. That makes me think I really should see if I can get Rusty to run on my phone.

18:02 SSX3 CAN be bought and played on Xbox One (and I can only assume Series consoles). Something I was really happy to find out about a little while ago so if this helps someone out, awesome.
came to the comments to make sure someone posted this, well done
Crazy, I just now posted on chaomix comments that Sonic should take hints from SSX3 trick system.
AND I pulled out my Gamecube.
Good to know! Apologies for skimming, brain hurt.
Mischief makers was my first N64 game, Jetset was my first Dreamcast one, and I was obsessed.
I'd love to see you tackle Breath of Fire. An in-depth video on the whole series would be amazing
There's a really cheap game inspired by BoF on Steam, it's called Breath of Death
Terranigma is one of my childhood games and is still in my top 10 favourite games of all time. I've given up all hope of seeing a rerelease though. Also Skies of Arcadia being stuck on Dreamcast and Gamecube is a crime, especially with Sega loving to reference it every so often.
0:17 you unlocked so many memories for me Austin you have no idea
I seriously cant think about Bomberman 64 The Second Attack without tearing up. That game meant a lot to me as an 8 year old, let alone today. As soon as i get enough cash, i'm buying a n64 with an everdrive to play this with someone special.
The other day one of my coworkers was talking about a game he played as a kid and could never find the name of or anything, and nobody he ever talked to about the game has any idea what game it was. "Unless your name is Dragon Quest, the Enix side of Square Enix doesn't get much love"
Even Dragon Quest doesn't get the love it deserves outside Japan.
You're on crack if you think Dark Dawn is anywhere near the OGs in terms of quality. It's not a bad game per say but it's at best just okay.
@@fagarou It's OK to have different opinions and not attack and insult people for them
Thanks for this PSA.
My two favorites are on the SNES. Front Mission and Front Mission : Gun Hazard are amazing titles.
I’ve got a recommendation:
The Fatal Frame series.
Most seem to just have the original release and PS3 digital rereleases.
I’m keen to dive in to these games soon and would happily buy a new form of them.
There's a remake of one of them on ps4 switch and PC that came out 2021
I despise when people say people should just play these classic games on original hardware like that’s somehow so practical
When most emulators play better, aren't hard to use and there's so many things you can do to improve the game even more
But stupid people be stupid
I'm okay with getting some collections on steam if they sell them to me, if not I'm emulating lol
Forgotten GameCube games next? If multiplats aren't disqualified, I'd love to hear you talk about Robotech Battlecry.
Saturn emulation is AMAZING right now. It's perfect on any modern PC. It hasn't been poor for at least 5 years.
The fact that I can play Herzog Zwei on my switch is crazy. I was hoping it would be a trend (it wasn't). Still hoping for Mischief Makers& Skies of Arcadia to appear on anything.
Skies of Arcadia on Switch please!

Oh man that sucks that it's not backwards compatible, that was one of my favorite games when I was a teenager.
For what it's worth, at least Burnout Paradise had an HD release on the Switch. Yeah it's not Burnout 3, but at least it comes close enough.

Rip buddy. You save the world twice.
It's still a crime that Radiata Stories has never seen any kind of port.
The fact that amped 3 hasn’t been made backwards compatible kills me
Always enjoy seeing your uploads pop up in notifications.
Avatar Tuner 1&2 immediately spring to mind.

Especially included would be The Last Story.
Ever since I learned I could get emulators on my phone in high school, I've never looked back. Official emulators could never compete.
After the shop goes down unfortunately the only way will be modding, fan emulation, and piracy
If Capcom remaster and port God Hand to Switch or PS4 I'd buy that game again for the third time.
Robotrek was one of my favorite games back in the day. Me and my friends used to play Mr. Roboto every time I fought a boss in the game for "inspiration"
Golden sun needs a modern game for the Switch.
A spreadsheet of all these games would be nice, along with a few underrated gems.
Things are not getting better, with live services game preservation is at its worst right now
Honestly, all them "live service" games are complete shite, I'd say they wouldn't be huge losses if they were to not be preserved
its crazy how much Nintendo despises their own history and fans
I hope Breath of Fire 3 and 4 are on this list
It baffles and offends me that ubi has the “Ubisoft classics +” collection and there’s NO rainbow six vegas… how? Of the like, 4 ubi games that have ever been worth playing, that game is number 1
I'm gonna need a port of that GC Custom Robo.
Funny thing, I do still have my 360 hooked up. And that's because not all my games on it are playable on the XB1. Such as many Arcade titles, Kinect titles, and random other titles.
Oh man. J'eanne D'arc is SUCH a good game. This was my go to PSP game back in the day and it really needs to be available.
Thanks for mentioning Terranigma. It's one of my all-time favorite games and the fact that it has never been ported is a crime.
This is why emulation is very important.
