    John C. Reilly is a terrific actor who never disappoints. He can do it all. By now he should have won a minimum of five Academy Awards. He's a regular guy to boot, humble and decent. You don't find much of that in Hollywood these days. Character Actor supreme!

      I enjoyed his work in The Perfect Storm and The Aviator but wish he’d stay away from political side taking. Elvis Presley had the right idea. Reporters would dig at him attempting to get a commitment but he always said “I’m an entertainer. I’m not here to impose my political beliefs on anyone”....even better said by Joan Rivers -“Actors think they know about politics. They should just shut up and act!”

    • @thomastimlin1724
      @thomastimlin1724 5 лет назад +2

      @@A2D4 then that means everyone should just shut up about politics in every profession? Actors have a right to an opinion too, famous or not. If you censor the famous, it won't be long until everyone will be told to shut up. You may as well be living in Russia then.

    Great interview. It's interesting that a lot is known about Stan Laurel because he was the creative drive behind the team, but less so about Oliver Hardy, who I think was a genius of comic timing, and I could often see child-like qualities come through. Also the direct look to camera breaking the fourth wall is totally Brechtian long before Brecht was even using the technique.

    Laurel and Hardy remind me of Sunday afternoon with my Grandparents in the 1970's. My grandfather looked a bit like Ollie (and acted a bit like him as well). It was strange to see something 40 years old (as most of the films were back then) being so funny and relatable in my time. Amazingly they still are now.
    The only comedy act I've ever felt emotionally involved with. I don't know why that is
    Maybe because of how young I was when I was introduced? I don't know. But I miss them even though Ollie died 10 years before I was born and Stan 2 years before. Weird to miss people you've never met, but I feel like I have met them.
    So pleased they are being given a proper tribute with actors and a production team who really appreciate them.

    • @VtRD

      Millions felt connect to L & H, and still do. They perfected the art of physical comedy, and when they were at their peak, this was the worst part of the Great Depression. People just loved the chemistry, and the humor holds up. Few acts can really say that.

    • @veldawells2839
      @veldawells2839 5 лет назад

      There's a camaraderie between both Oliver and Stan which I feel has never been replicated or equalled too in modern-day comedy duoes. I think for those that had the opportunity to see them between 1927 up to 1950s and appreciate their movies in the past or present, there is a truly strange affinity that viewers feel towards them which is hard to put your finger on. Reilly portrayed Hardy eloquently and with conviction. Emotional film.

    Might be very difficult to find/access for anyone outside the UK, but a few years ago BBC radio broadcast an incredibly moving play, featuring 'Stan' talking to a very ill/mute 'Ollie' reminiscing over their career, and the music hall tour, featured in this movie,,he kept asking Ollie if he wanted a drink of water, as Ollie kept moving his hands,,,as the play came to an end, 'Stan' suddenly realised Ollies gesture wasn't for a drink, but the only way he could try and communicate, and do that move/gesture he used to do in the movies with his tie,,,
