I had the initial symptoms again with Ubuntu, my problem was Ubuntu wouldn’t run on my SSD as a GPT and I had to reset it as a MBR on a second machine. That worked for me in my case, but I feel like Grasshopper telling his blind master how to walk on rice paper (ask Big Boss).
Today I retired from a job I loved but through my health problems I knew it was time. I understood every word you said about loving your work and time flying. Enjoy your work, but if I’d understood the work life balance I might never have become disabled in the first place.

A nice way to keep the screws in is to lose them up, so they would fall out and then put some tape above the hole. That way, you never lose them or get the wrong screw into the wrong hole.
I do that for years now and when you put it together, your screwdriver just punctures the tape and you can screw it together, remove the tapes and your golden.

Ubuntu modifies the uefi bios to install its Boot entry. In the early stages of uefi due to mismatches in the specifications / bugs in the uefi implementations Linux could brick the uefi bios of some vendors.
Nowadays this shouldn't be a problem anymore.

That usually happens when secure boot is enabled. You need to turn it off before booting Linux on legacy. Grub should have came up, but it didn’t, so either secure boot is on or grub is broken.
You need to run an actual boot rescue, not a bootable USB. This will fix these issues 99% of the time. If it was the bios chip, you wouldn’t get a bios menu.

I fixed mine by deleting all trusted keys, cold resetting the bios ( cmos & batt unplugged, drain power by holding power button for 20 secs ), turn off secure boot and the trick is to hot switch the windows live usb when in bios boot drive selection. I'm into hardware not so much software.......how the hell does a OS even have access to the BIOS like that?

Bios is a software on a chip, it can be updated, in various ways... also easy to get corrupted too... something crashes during update, bios can be caput if no backup bios exist laptop became 1st stage brick unless you replace the chip...
i would first try resetting bios settings on the cmos first... before chip replacement, sometimes settings on cmos (where bios settings are stored) gets corrupted, cmos reset can fix it sometimes...

@@mytester6208 For my own edification, I was wondering about this - I didn't hear it mentioned, but there are two easy steps before replacing the IC: reset the BIOS to factory defaults (sometimes called "optimized settings"). Except for the bootloader portion, everything else about the BIOS appeared to function properly. If a factory reset failed, re-flash the firmware through the BIOS utility? One of those two steps should have cleared out the BIOS eeprom/nvram. If those failed, yeah, replace the chip. Maybe they did those other things. Felt like they went straight from "I installed ubuntu, BIOS corrupted" to "replace hardware"

Ubuntu does NOT write to the BIOS! Nore does any other Linux distro for that matter!

That computer would not boot any color of Windows. A differnet Ubuntu Kernel might boot, though, and once Ubuntu is running you can apply a fix.

I booted into bios and restored it to default. That seemed to solve my issue. (Ubuntu dual boot).
