Usually there's a resistor you can remove or change near the cpu to disable the onboard memory and use only dimm but you'll need schematics and board view to find it if reflow doesn't work
Lenovo carbon gen2. Common ram gets bad. But difficult because no dim slots
Thank you :)

@@Sensui_Shinobuwould you know is it posible to salvage chips that are same spec or even even better spec , from dimm module ?
@@gamer_5042 i´m sure that i saw Dosdude1 doing that to a macbooc air
Sir I bought a rework station 1 year ago, still in its box, I have a 55" TV not working 2 years ago (display issues) I had some time and said... I'll watch some videos to know how to use it, yours was the second video and a light bulb turn on over my head! I open the TV, take out the main board, I reworked the 4 ram memories and the processor too, put thermal grease, assemble all back, and I'm watching my TV all excited! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Wow, I can't help but wonder what it was like to figure out a fault like this for the first time.😤 Nice to know what to look for based on experience, it could be a big time & aggravation saver. 👍 Great lesson!!
when I see you put up a video it's like Christmas
I agree, with clear thinking and clear expression. The material is also very useful for learning. It's a very good video.
Yup, exactly 😊
Smart efficient and quick. Best I've seen on the internet. Wish you worked on transceivers and amplifiers. Keep up the fantastic work.
Bonsoir Collègue je vous observe depuis la Côte Ivoire, vous êtes génial, je vous tire mon chapeau
Can't wait to see your microscope in 4k. We appreciate all the hard work you do!
Awesome repair! magnificent diagnostic.
It is true that he has done a great job in this area, and I really want to have the opportunity to communicate with him.
So easy to reflow if you have the skills for many years. ❤thank you for the update
This is great advice! Thank you for sharing, ill be sure to remember this for future repairs.
Sorin esti tare , mult respect, tot romanii le dau clasa la straini =)) , multa sanatate
Great tip, Sorin! That's why I bought a laptop with no RAM soldered in
This video helped me a lot, it deserves likes
Nice 4k video, love it!👍
I think same problem my Vaio have.I'll try this trick tomorrow.Thank you everyone for sharing your knowledge :)
Great job man you are wonderful as allways
Thank you so much Sir Sorin
A few days ago, I had an Acer laptop from a customer with faulty onboard RAM. They were getting like over 100 degrees, crazy! I tried reflowing and nothing worked. I took them off but keep in mind, the laptop will still not work because the bios will still search for the onboard RAM, because it's programmed that way. The solution is to mod the bios, and disable the onboard RAM. Then you can just plug in a normal RAM stick and you are good to go :D
How to disable ram by bios sir?
@@tomycomputerservice schematics-boardview, be awared a Onboard ram be Conected Directly to CPU, are 50-50 ram or Cpu Conection.

Your 4K video is fantastic!
Great content and thank you for everything. I've learned so much from this channel that no school can teach me.
Just one advice, don't open laptops on the corners. That puts all the force on one hinge and can weaken or even break the hinge(don't ask me how I know) :D
Amazing repair
update. Amazing that could be a sold issue. Happy to have brought an Air Solder !🙏🧡💚🤗 thanks to your videos !. I will try that on one dimm that were not working, causing blue screen and freeze on a working XP laptop. I just changed Battery unmounting all the motherboard, and I fixed the second issue just by taking out the second ram memory, I added just previously.
I will see when having time, but an interesting subject for me, that's an issue I had lot of times having lot memory pieces, I generally change the not working one. Happened me few days ago, but not tried to repare the Ram part. Will update this comment if necessary! Thanks🙏💚👍
gladly waiting for the updates dude
In the past I came arround a laptop where if fan was not connected laptop wont turn on... so maybe the left chip was the issue.
I was cringing when you flexed main board so much but everything worked out on the end 😁. Good video, thx.
5:35 - Its obvious that marks started disappearing on left most chips. Meaning high temperature. Fluctuation in temperature is what makes solder cracks.
17:33 - There probably have been multiple problems. It changed its behavior after reflowing first 2 chips, so something was fixed/changed. After reflowing second group it started working, and was functional 100%.
You didnt reflow only second group to be sure its last one. Simple method of deduction.
Good method and demonstration but I think its better to reflow to be sure, sometimes can happen that pushing will not help but reflow will help. Sometimes you have to remove chip to see that solder ball is missing.
Good job
Thanks for your great idea you have shared with us master
which type of Reballing flux have you used
Nice VIdeo as always🔥🔥
Good job mate 👍
The flex in that laptop is crazy! most probably the cause of the RAM error. That or someone vented on the keyboard and thumped it. Reflowing the RAM chips can also be a nightmare on Lenovos because of the brown glue they insist on using. I've seen a few newer HPs with the outer pins on the RAM sockets loose just due to pressure from typing. Modern laptops have poor structural integrity and break with little effort but people want thin tech and will have to pay the price in longevity.
🌄🧡💚crazy, agree!☺️ Tablets are thin but have not the keyboard whole with poor plastic on it. The screen is the best way to put beside the motherboard like tablets, I have an octocore, and very easy to go inside. Perhaps in future, that's an evolution to promote, making the Keyboard a separate thing, with one piece screen and motherboard, even on a 15" or a 19", and why not touch screen. I uses old laptops for music so I have All generations ones, because music hardware's are not updated since window seven sound system, and related to graphic cards, so I can see the evolution opening them, some were iron bunkers, but now for sure, they seems made like a smartphone mother board.🤗 Quick to destroy a solder layer access .
10-15 years ago the board was close to the bottom. with bending protection. Today it is close to the keyboard, all the typing on the keyboard is slowly destroying the motherboard. Fans are getting clogged more small ventilation holes
I am watching this from the exact same laptop. To be precise, mine carries the model no. Ideapad C340-14API (Ryzen 5 3500U, 1 TB SSD, 14 inch IPS with touch, 8 GB RAM-I have upgraded to 20 GB - 4 GB onboard and 16 GB module). My unit came with Samsung memory though (both the onboard and the expansion as well). 3.5 years so far and still going strong.
a new issue, first time to see that. good job 👍👍 . Another trick, a RAM soldered on the board to make life harder !
Wow that was a nice one
A little tip, if the chips are actually defective it is cheaper and safer to buy a RAM module remove the chips, reball and solder on the board rather than buying the chips themselves. I bought an 8gb ddr4 ram module for 15usd from aliexpress to fix the onboard memory of a laptop, If I had bought just the chips it would be several times more expensive and I could possibly end up with fake/faulty chips. Just make sure the chips on the module use the same package and preferably have the same specs as the ones on the board.
can we use same brand but bigger specs?
Thank you I was wondering if this is possible
i am very learning alot from you . thx you sorin
Friends, if you do it, practice is meaningful, and theory is only the foundation. To become a master, you have accumulated experience from the maintenance of countless laptops.
WoOoOoW amazing repair
It would be helpful to see the points of voltage measures in zoom position especially for new bee.
LOVE this channel and everything he does, so much better than all the other channels BUT........ just have one worry on "cooling Pads" um. when you pull up a reflow temp profile for a chip, it gives the time to heat gradually UP to temp but makes it very clear to pull nozzle away SLOWLY to cool not shock the chip. So is fast cooling with a pad will cause fractures soon of the balls? instead of letting it just cool for 10 mins then test? Are the cooling pads undoing all of Sorens great work and will fail again instead of long tern repair?
Your channel it's really good for learning repair eletronics. It's not like other channels that can only repair shorted components using a thermal camera. Your vids give a lot of different cases of faulty devices which it's very good for learning. I must say that I have learned a lot from yours vids and my skill to repair stuff has increased a lot. Thx for your vids and keep the good work.
Master Sorin💪
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE EXPLANATION OF THE MEMORY PROBLEM A QUESTION HOW COULD YOU BERIFY IT IF WHEN YOU PRESENT NOTHING AS SHOWN IN THE VIDEO THANK YOU VERY MUCH
I like the way you say "thingy"
Magic! Amazing! I've always been fearful of soldered RAM, but not anymore!!! 🤣
Great video sir absolutely gem of a vudeo
Watching this video makes me glad my newer gaming laptop from 2021 has two memory slots if the memory goes bad it's a quick fix.
you are excellently good. I am looking forward to contacting you in personal to learn more from you.
Can you test again remove the 2nd fan? It could be the system detected no 2nd fan plug in and refuse to turn on, which also explain why it also refuse to work when you press your finger on the same chip as before.
Good point
smart repair :)
Hello🤝nice tip i have laptop with same problem all voltage present but no post thenqu for lesion 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👋👋👋👋👋👋
it's great job !!!!
For me
I will first detach the battery from the board before anything,
I cannot still believe that seems like a magic to me,
Sorin please I want to come to you,
I needed to inherit all these knowledge from you..........
Hello Sorin, as always a great professional, and with incredible knowledge in electronics, and also your proven effectiveness in all the repairs that you teach us. Too bad you're not around (I live in Spain - Granada) to have a coffee with you and say hello
become patreon and pay him a coffie
My expirience is that repair will not last for long. You must reball all 4 chips.
You are very good!
You have exhibited a great skill in testing on board ram, how did you acquire those skills
You are Unbelievable, very well done, how many degrees have you set with hotair?
Sorin as usual good fix , I suppose the moral of the story is just reflow all chips . thanks for your time Jim
or, reflow till work :D
Thanks Sorin, excellent lession! But in my opinion in real life it is not reliable. I would remove the soldered memory chips (install the memory module in the slot) and it might be necessary to configure the straps there or flash another BIOS.
Yep, getting some of these on board ram issues with Lenovo notebooks recently
Good error finding, in my experience reflow doesn't work, lead free pads get oxidized and the flux can't get to the bottom of the chip, only at the board, so solder won't stick to the chip. Reballing solves the problem all the time (if not the chip has ripped pads). Leaded balls and 90x90 stencil is the best, reballing 4 ram chips take 10 minutes and jobs won't come back dead.
very nice, how long laptop gonna work after reflow?

Hi Sorin. Followed some other electronic repair youtubers earlier but they started to speak about their customersin a quite unacceptable style so I left those superhuman channels. It seems, there are two proper guys left where this problem never occurs. You are one of the two. Please, keep your style, show your success and also your failures, keep acting like this. Great channel with great quality content we can learn from. Greetings from Hungary.
Proper nice 4k!
This man is an electronics whisperer 😂 it's like the components speak to him.
Us mere mortals do not vibrate at this same frequency lol
Friend, practice makes perfect. As long as you study hard, you can become a master like him. All the masters came from apprentices.
That flex is crazy
It's a miracle that the chip doesn't have a underneath glue..
the best
It looks much better in 4k. The clip is more detailed. 😀
18:12 - I’m impressed with the screwdriver you’re using. What’s the model you’re using? It sounds like it has torque capabilities. When I search for such, I find a deluge of choices.

Hey Sorin, I wanted to play along in diagnosing the fault but I already know what it is because I saw the title of the video. Is it possible to list only the symptoms in the title or do you need to put the cause of fault there also in order to get views?
The problem will probably reoccurr and this was a temporary fix due to the flexibility of the motherboard and the quality of the solder used on the ram chips.
Cool..That's New..if you remove all On Board Ram and just use The Slot Would That Work??
I just discovered that memtest86+ has problems and I encountered some with my computer. I also discovered that my desktop will run with one stick of RAM instead of the recommend pair. I had 2x8GB installed and it only saw 8GB. I cleaned the contacts and reseated the RAM and the computer saw both chips. memtest86 also only saw 1 chip until the cleaning and reseating. Online research shows issues with memtest86 and multiple-core processors. 16GB was OK but I sometimes like to run several virtual box instances so need the memory. RAM for a desktop is cheap and I further upgraded to 32GB. Do a search for memtest86 freezes or hangs for more information.
4k.. looks great on my 4k tv!
u should reball the ram chip by the way good job
Do you think it didn't boot because the fan was not connected? Thanks for sharing!
Once upon a time, computers beeped codes that immediately told what’s what.
The way i figured out the ram vdd was pressent . I usesd a themal camer and found 1 memory chip was not getting warm other chips we're gets warm. I removed the module and reballed and solder back.. problem was solved like this for me
Nice❤
please is there any place i could get the exact tool you use for repair ... somethingthe power-supply and multimeter and manymore
Hello sir, Can you tell me which flux (for reflow) are you using..?? This video
Nice work, I don’t understand why the manufacturer goes with this approach? If your memory rams goes bad you can’t replace it unless you have a professional technician to diagnose the fault. :/
What's the temperature of the hotair you used to reflow the RAM?
it looks great, but i wonder if it's possible to increase the ram by soldering new ram memories? i hate the new laptops without ram slot
Technically , it should work if you get the same ram type with thr same pinout but larger size. We do it on microcontrollers by swapping out the spi rams or spi flash memory for larger ones. But you can only do that if the laptop already has another variant that has the larger chip. If not its unlikely thr larger size to be detected or even made use of in the laptop. A similar thing I saw was upgrading memory on iphones where the emmc is replaced with a larger one. If that worked , then the ram definitely should imo. But those phones did have the larger memory versions by retail too.
Come to Beşiktaş,Sorin...
OOh lets check out thoes 4k dimples!
If you'll excuse me, I've got the shape of a hp 650 g2 with a rehearsal that could be opened up to a copy, and it's possible that before I do, the Rustart, knowing that I'm shipping Beus, and the same problem is that your presence is able to save me.
which overhead camera is this :)
wow !
Hello
I have a question i need a help from you
my question is
how to test logic gates on board like OR gates , and so on ?
what are the odds 😮, I'm working on a lenovo ideapad 3 and it's seems to be working fine however it's secretly suffering from on board ram issues, this led to it's hhd to die, replaced it with nvme ssd and still the ram corrupts the files when trying to install windows, but it works when the drive is installed on another laptop then plugged into the lenovo
Ram Chiropractic Dr.Sorin...
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 no need any words
hello sir its good
how can disable the onboard RAM and use usual ram for this laptop?
Sir, How can we check a faulty Ram Slot and Faulty Ram with Multimeter? I mean by checking Voltage drops and so on,
👍👍👌👌
That little chip on the ram could be the cause of most ram trouble. If the operating system is illegal copy, it causes memory trouble, too. Legal win clears this problem. Mine runs at 333 mhz 50% power plan, and runs very well at 1 ghz cpu speed. Second hand memory modules can be fixed when inserted into a legal machine. The speed increase won’t be immediate, only after a while.
Looks like 2K to me but very fuzzy
