DJI Mavic Pro Controller Fail, Disconnections and Signal Loss Resolved

- Was having the dreaded "Remote Controller Connection" error on my DJI Mavic Pro remote frequently and FINALLY figured it out. Signal loss of any kind is scary but a complete disconnection, especially when you're mid-flight is terrifying. In this video I show what I found that failed, how I fixed it permanently and the exact parts I used, listed below. This saved me hundreds of dollars of future repairs or a replacement remote as well, YAY! One thing to keep in mind is if you're having signal loss, be sure to try running your phone/tablet in airplane mode! Lots of signal issues with WIFI and cell service running... Anyway, please feel free to comment if you've had similar problems and if this worked for you.
I recently upgraded to an awesome Samsung tablet, added more benefits than I thought. increased cinematic stability and disconnects continue to be solved but need different cabling and such. Video review on this tablet holder and cabling here: • DJI Mavic Pro Controll...
*Note I haven't had experience with the Apple version of cable listed here but I'm told it is better than the original cable, Please if you use this, let me know how it works in the comments below!
Also, don't forget there is a way to get a free cable in the video here: • Best Accessories for M...
Good Flying!

Clever! That Charge point is a weakness in the controller design. That magnetic usb connector is the perfect permanent solution.
Glad it was useful to you! 😎
After 2 to 3 Years of struggle with my Mavic 2 Pro not able to fly with DJI installed software, I installed the Go Fly For D.J.I Drone Software from Smart Widgets Labs, now drone is operating normal. No more transmission error or lost connection error. Shame of DJI software, seems like there is a bug and they dont want to fix
EXCELLENT VIDEO, A DISCONNECTION JUST HAPPENED TO ME THROUGH THAT CABLE AND I DID NOT KNOW HOW TO SOLVE IT, I HAVE AN NEXT EVENT AND I THOUGHT TO CANCEL IT, I WILL TRY THIS TIP
You can fix the controller too. Unclip the top, Order a cable from aliexpress for 16$ and just unplug and plug, No soldering needed.
Good to know!

I’ve done that a long time ago but I use my tablet with tablet holder in phone slot.
but the bottom micro connector om the remote is not the typical micro usb, it's kind of square afaik. So will a regular micro usb cable fit?
Hello, Thanks for the comment! The connector on the bottom is a USB-A, same connector that is on PCs for instance... The connector on the side of the remote is a Micro. Good Flying!
Hi, I also have the same problem as you. after seeing your explanation earlier, I have bought a usb cable - type c to connect near the bottom usb hole and phone hole. Is there any problem when using the bottom usb hole for drone flying?
I use it always.
@@AlienDrones So no problem for fly ? How about signal...
@@imiey_ridzuan I've had no issues. Keeping in airplane mode helped too...
@@AlienDrones ok sir.. i try
@@imiey_ridzuan 👍
Another thing that actually solves the problem is buying better quality rc cable that comes into the bottom port. In my case buying that cable solved this in 90%.
Nahh itsnot
I've tried different USB cables and I still get the remote control connection error. I even thought if I turned the drone on first that would help but it didn't.
One thing I also found is turning my device in airplane mode as well, sometimes it conflicts with the connection...
I get disconnect with smart remote. The issue with disconnects definitely doesn't have anything to do with your cable. There are no cables with the smart remote and in getting disconnects in cold weather. As we're you. Hence the snow in your video.
After cable replacement I have not had one disconnect in the last 2 years. Snow has nothing to do with it. Maybe you're smart controller isn't very smart. Just sayin'
Funny thing. I've been using bottom USB to micro USB since start and yesterday I had an order for original cable and suddenly I had this connection error, seems that I will stick with bottom USB rather, damn.
The bottom port does have a benefit also that it does not charge the remote with the device. (I always noticed that my phone would go dead really fast but my remote would stay charged, making me assume my phone was charging the remote). Using the bottom remote USB-a port to connect my phone, this no longer happens, my phone stays charged. Maybe it's just my device but it is an additional benefit for me... Make sure you hit airplane mode too as that causes weird errors, at least sometimes... Good Flying!
I really appreciate this video. Disconnects are very scary. I like both cable solutions you have offered, especially the magnetic one for charging. I will try this out. Thanks very much.
Indeed they are! I remember the first time, my heart sank to my feet. I had my first fly-away a few weeks ago, equally as disturbing when the UAV is out of control and flying away from you, scary stuff! Good Flying!

Thx AD for this info, had connection problems with my mavic 2 in like forever, gonna try a lightning to usb cable asap! Never realized the controller also has a usb connection.
I use that usb a to c but still same problem, what you'd i do??
Three other things I found, 1) make sure you're device is in airplane mode. 2) Use a different device, while in airplane mode, 3) if those fail you might need a repair to the drone...
Can not the disconnect problem also occur because the drone flew too high or weather issue? As I saw on another video? I have Mavic Pro Platinum and had my first disconnect from controller. Fortunately, the drone returned home but I felt I still had stick control. Is there a way to try refreshing the interface to reconnect as it appears what you did? As the only way I was to reconnect was, after landing drone, exiting the app and re-opening and trying to reconnect again, which worked. Also, by 'Airplane mode', do you mean on phone itself?
I did have some app crashes when I wasn't using airplane mode, yes on the phone (no networking or cell service turned on). After using airplane mode and changing out my cables I haven't had a disconnect in the last year. Disconnection from distance is unlikely, these things go forever, certainly while flying VLOS, shouldn't be a problem. Good Flying!

Where is the link for the cables???????????????????????
Hello, There's links for 8 different types of cables in the description of the video. If there's something special you're looking for let me know and perhaps I'm aware of something else...
Thank you so much. Very frustrating past two days for me with DJI Mavic pro 2 cables and connection issues. I will use the central usb connection going forward. Many thanks again for the video , for sharing your experience and the solution.
You're welcome, glad it helped! Good Flying!
Now I knew it that USB in the lower cable can be a connector from mobile to USB
Thanks for your useful information, however a 1 minute video would explain that instead of 9 minutes.
Cheers
Glad it was useful to you.
thank you i will try this later
All the best! Don't forget airplane mode too, causes all kinds of weird things...
I use the same cable but longer on my tablet & still have disconnect issues!
Make sure you are in airplane mode (Bluetooth, WiFi and cell service OFF) as well. If these don't help, likely either an App, a device issue or even the UAV/remote itself. Try a different device and if it is still a problem I'd send the UAV back for repair replacement as disconnections are certainly unacceptable! Good Flying!
Excellent! that's happening a lot of time this afternoon with our mavic 2 pro. Will to try this way for the next flight! thanks for the tips. Will give you a feedback! Nice job!
No worries, Hope it helps! Don't forget airplane mode too... Good Flying!
@@AlienDrones airplane mode on the phone, right?
@@offtrackfamily Correct, your device, not the Mavic. Good Flying!
@@AlienDrones thanks!
@@AlienDrones why do you recommend to have the airplane mode on? what does the airplane mode do?
My problem is that it disconnected from mavic pro while flying now the controller will not connect anymore at all. I try to turn on controller but it just turns off after 3 seconds and will not connect to the app also. Do you have any input. Just got it 3 days ago
Yikes, if the controller won't stay on, even if charged, it be broken... Only 3 days, I'd try to return it rather than repair, but check with DJI first, never know. Good Flying!
@@AlienDrones I email DJI we will see what they say
Does the controller not complain about using both ports? I remember having both USB's plugged in once and the bottom port did not work until I removed the side-port USB cable.
I don't use both ports at the same time since the top port is only used for charging and I don't charge while flying. That being said, you can charge and fly, you just need to "connect" the Mavic and the remote first, then plug in the top port to your charger. If you start to charge first then try to connect, the remote will complain about a "stick error". I tested this before writing this response and if I connect things in the right sequence then I have no issues. Good Flying!
@@AlienDrones What I mean was: I thought that if you had anything plugged into the side port mico USB that the bottom USB would be disabled. Meaning that I would need to remove that magnetic connector before I am able to fly my drone. But I've found online that it is possible to charge using the port on the side while using the bottom port to connect to your phone/tablet. I have x5 batteries and my controller is always dying before I get to battery no 5. This way I'm able to fly for longer. Thank you for the tip regarding the magnetic adaptor.
No worries, All Good... Good Flying!
Thanks so much for putting this video out... I just bought a used Mavic Pro last night... had my first flight this morning, and lost connection... freaked me out 100%... It would not reconnect, nothing. I have just bought the cables you suggested! Thanks!
Thanks for the comment, makes all the work putting it together worth it! Make sure you flip on "Airplane Mode" as well, had some conflicts when messages and such popped up with the DJI GO 4 App... Good Flying!

I just bought a tablet yesterday to replace my phone and when i plug it in into the remote the device starts charging but then about every 15-30 seconds it displays the round circle showing the battery life percentage and keeps doing it over and over along with a beep. Also i can not get the remote to connect via to the drone? Any ideas here?
Never heard of that, ugly for sure.
@@AlienDrones its terrible i literary cant use the device. Thinking it may be a faulty cable so im swapping it out.
@@AlienDrones I also experience this, irregularly yet frequently the circle with telephone and cable in the picture. I have seen this for at least a year, it has never really been a problem, but since a week the connection has been dropped very frequently. In yellow "remote controller disconected" followed by the black screen and the drone is out of control (very anxious moments) it happens with my samsung galaxy phone problematic often, if I use an ipad mini, with the other cable, the problem is less common, but it is certainly not over! what is very striking now is that the "charging circle" is related to the connection problem
Happened to me today my drone was on the mountains! Really terrifying indeed!!!
Indeed, this is only one of those things that you can only truly appreciate once it happens to you! Until then, words like "fly away" "disconnect", "lost signal", loss of control", etc. are truly only words without the trauma that comes with the experience. Nothing quite like it! Thanks for your comments and Good Flying!
Thank god for the go home feature. Saved my ass a few times!!!!

Is your controller still working ok using the bottom port? I may switch mine up also, but. I remember reading or seeing a video, a long time ago, that told, using the bottom port is not a good method to use while flying. I can't remember why they said this. I'm gonna check around again. Anyway... if you've had no trouble since, maybe it's OK to go this route. Thank you
I used the bottom port every time for the last year. Haven't used the side port since I changed the cables (and use airplane mode when using a phone) and haven't had a disconnect since. Using both phone and tablet, more tablet now, but both are flawless for me. Good Flying!
I think i remembered incorrectly. I just watched a video that told, the bottom port is actually a better connection to the controller. What confuses me is... i literally just had this disconnect. I couldn't get the drone to respond at all to my controls. This didn't make sense to me because you don't even need a phone connected to be able to fly. I should have still been able to control the mavic pro. Also, it wouldn't reconnect or respond so i reached out, underneath it, and grabbed it. Flipped it sideways to shut it down. When i did this, the bottom sensors also were not responding because it didn't try to fly up. Not sure why?
Thanks for all the links under your video. I ordered the angled type C cable and the magnet tip cable.
Glad they helped, Good Flying!
thanks man this video and description was a ton of help

I've seen video where DJI says that we should disconnect the cable which goes to the left micro USB port, If we are going to use the bottom one. In other words, we should only connect to one of them at a time. So, can we still use the bottom port just fine if the small part of the magnetic cable is attached to the left port the whole time?
I don't use both ports at the same time since the top port is only used for charging and I don't charge while flying. That being said, you can charge and fly, you just need to "connect" the Mavic and the remote first, then plug in the top port to your charger. Does it happen with ios ?
Yes, the cable/communication problem is non-discriminant, probably more hardware related than OS dependent. Some people never have the problem but probably just a matter of time I would think. I haven't found a perfect cable with the lightning connector on Amazon, maybe someone else here has, but the version I use from Ebay does have a lightning connector and the one I use (USB-C) works flawlessly for me. Good Flying!
@@AlienDrones
i found a solution

@@shaihaan Yup, that helps sometimes too, just like I said in the description! Good Flying!
Problem with android phones.
I've had many with Apple phones say they've had this problem, so don't think that's accurate...
I'm afraid that using this method will overload all the left side smartphone weight on the connector. Don't you think that in a long time it would compromise the phone usb door?
Thanks for your question... The connector appears to stay centered in the phone and the phone stays centered in the remote mount and he cable I use also has a little clearance when sitting in the remote, so from what I can tell (with my device) there is no net force that will degrade the connection. Good Flying!
I just purchased a used Mavic Pro and had two flights with my S8 Plus. Both times the drone disconnected. first time it was about 20 feet and it landed on it's own and second time it was about 200 yards away and I lost connection and the drone came back to its original location. I was really scared as there were periods where I had absolutely no control over the drone and I thought it was going to fly away. I was using the supplied cables to the side port of the controller. I was not aware that I need to turn off wifi and put drone into airplane mode. Should I try that first or just use the bottom port? I'm really scared to fly now as I don't want to hurt anyone with a fly away drone. I was initially so excited to get this drone now I'm not sure.
I just purchased a used Mavic Pro as well. Like you, I was getting lots of disconnects and almost lost the drone during my initial flights. Then I put the phone into airplane mode and have not experienced another disconnect. That said, I'm going to buy the cables featured here as a fail safe. I've read several reports of the mini USB port eventually failing and people having to purchase a new controller. This method should prevent that from ever occurring.
I recommend setting up return to home (be in an open area and set the return flight height appropriately). Experiment with it a few times before flying out and about. If you want to go the extra mile (literally), get the DJI goggles. If you ever lose the drone on your phone and also lose sight of the drone, you can put the goggles on and fly safely home.
This is very unsettling for sure. Gave me huge anxiety the first time it happened. Putting your device into airplane mode is a great start, but the connection with the cables is kind of cheesy, and gives problems as well. Having the magnetic charging cable also protects the remote micro connection from being damaged and being an expensive repair ... Good Flying!
Get on with in bro. You keep repeating and repeating and repeating. We get how to plug the cable in🤣🤣🤣
Many say you cant keep connected 2 connectors same time while flying.Since micro usb is constantly attached.would it ?
Normally most don't use both ports at the same time since the top port is only used for charging and the remote will have far more capacity than the drone battery itself, so I haven't found the need to charge while flying. That being said, you can charge and fly, you just need to "connect" the Mavic and the remote first, then plug in the top port to your charger. If you start to charge first then try to connect, the remote will complain about a "stick error". I tested this (Mavic Pro) before writing this response and if I connect things in the right sequence then I have no issues. Good Flying!
Alien Drones Thanks for the reply.God bless u .
Then every time need to remove the magnetic micro usb before connecting Mavic and remote?.I thought we can leave so that its easy to charge and fly using normal usb.
@@ArunKumar-vf4nv The Micro magnetic adapter stays in place in the side of the remote for when the power cable is used to charge it. The bottom USB-A connection is connected to your device with a different cable for displaying DJIG04 app. No need to remove the magnetic adapter.
