As has been mentioned before, this was Burgess Meredith's last movie. He was already suffering the effects of Alzheimer's disease and had to be coached throughout filming. He passed 2 years later.
He was great in everything I've seen him in. This, Batman '66, but by far my favorite role of Mr. Meredith was Mickey in the Rocky series! He was priceless!
He did some great weird stuff, too, that I never see mentioned... He voiced the villain Golabulus (think I spelled that right...) in the animated G.I. Joe: The Movie from the 80's.
He got to make love to a lovely woman in the final days of his life, and he passed peacefully in his sleep among the beauty of nature in his favorite spot, doing what he loved most.... there are no better ways to go
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau were first cast opposite each other in _The Fortune Cookie_ (1966), for which Matthau won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Their on-screen chemistry was so compellingly funny that ultimately they were cast in ten films together. Their second film, and arguably the one that cemented them as a premier comedy team, was the 1968 adaptation of Neil Simon's Tony winning play, _The Odd Couple._ Walter Matthau won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play, and reprised his role in the film version. Lemmon was not in the play on Broadway, but his performance has made him synonymous with his character in the movie. If you've never seen _The Odd Couple,_ you must. It is a high point in American comedy films.
I'm at that weird age where I totally remember The Odd Couple, but I always first think of Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. Kinda like M*A*S*H, I didn't know there was a movie until I had already watched the TV show for years lol.

No joke, I was watching this last night and said to myself that Ashleigh should react to this movie since she did “Grumpy Old Men”. Did y’all hear that phone ring? Because I called it!
I'm so glad you liked this one too. Fun facts: "Pops" (Burgess Meredith) also played The Penguin on the old 1960s "Batman" tv show. Fans would send him stuffed penguins and penguin figurines and Burgess kept them all and displayed them in his house. You still need to see "The Odd Couple" with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau - it's so fantastic and in a way the Grumpy movies are like spiritual successors to that movie. My father worked in the film industry and had the biggest crush on Sophia Loren. I mean, he would have walked out on my mom for Sophia if the opportunity presented itself, 100%. My mom read me bedtime stories and sang lullabies to me when I was small, so it's not just a movie thing. Have a great weekend!
The people behind Batman ’66 were such big fans of Burgess Meredith that they kept a backlog of Penguin episodes so that they could work around his schedule. “Oh, you’re unexpectedly free next week? Here’s your script. See you on Monday.”
You would love "Houseboat" with Sophia Loren and Carey Grant! 😍 Edit: also, I sang babies to sleep even though I'm a terrible singer, and I did read to my kids a LOT as they grew! (just not always at bedtime.) Reading helps kids in all other areas of school and life!
The caneloni joke has been killing me since the 90s. I saw it in the trailer when this movie came out and it randomly enters my mind to this day and makes me laugh
My grandfather's passing was similarly out of nowhere. He sat down in his recliner to take a nap. His son was visiting with his wife in the other room and they were talking up a storm. His last words were to get up and yell at them to keep it down, he was trying to nap. And I guess he took the best nap of his life because he never got up. I hope to pass the same way.
I read to my kids at bedtime. To this day I can’t get through The Giving Tree without crying. Try it, you’ll see. I sang lullabies until they learned to talk and said, “mommy, don’t sing”. You’ve seen Burgess Meredith before in Rocky. Sophia Loren was everyone’s pinup girl back in her day. She was stunning. She’s 87 and still looks great. James Caan just passed away. Will you be watching a movie of his? May I suggest Brian’s Song. You’ve already seen him in Elf, Misery and The Godfather.
Brian's Song one of his best. Interestingly, he was initially reluctant to play the role because it was a TV movie, and he wanted to be known for cinema movies. However, after he read the script he felt he just had to make it.
I read to my daughter for years and years, but I didn't get to sing to her because she would cover my mouth when I tried to! (HA! Didn't even get to sing to her until she could tell me not to.)
I read to my kid. She absolutely loved it. Now she's a mom and she reads to her daughter and son. They also love it. I discussed it with her, when one day I found her favorite book in a secondhand bookstore. I gave it to her for her thirtieth birthday and she read it to her kids. She said, she read to her kids to give them a headstart in school. If they were used to books from an early age she felt, they would have the same kind of headstart she'd gotten from my reading books to her, when she was a kid. I told that, aside from the fact that I loved reading to her and thereby getting her to love language and litteraure just as much as I do, that was my ulterior motive all along. To take away the mythical aspect of reading and of authors and to give her a headstart. She comes from a looong line of nothing but blue collar workers and stay-at-home moms. She was the first in our family to graduate from university. She's a teacher and I could not be prouder.
Lemmon and Matthau were treasures of American comedy and cinema. They have too many great roles between them to even try to list them. So glad Ashleigh is watching this one, and I really hope she checks out more Lemmon and Matthau stuff...either together or separately... very soon.💯✌
When my son was a young kid, I would read to him and make up stories when tucking him in bed. One illustrated children's book was my own favorite. It was The Great Redwall Feast by Brian Jacques. I would use different voices for the various characters. It never failed to put my son to sleep. It was so effective, he began hiding the book, knowing he would fall asleep if I read it.
Sophia Loren is (IMO) the most beautiful actress of all time. I had the honor of meeting her in the mid 1970's (Extremely briefly sadly to say) and she is more beautiful in person than on film. A very classy lady as well. The two Grumpy Old Men movies are hilarious and have aged very well. Great reaction Ashleigh!
As much as Hollywood has always been a cesspool, it just seems like the older generations of actors actresses (Sophia Loren, Ann Margret, Nancy Kwan, Elke Sommer, etc) just had more class and "it factor" compared to today.
RE: reading to kids... I read to my girls every night until they were around 8. They read every night themselves now. Reading ability, speed and comprehension is the basis of learning all subjects. Bedrock skills.
My parents did the same when i was very little. It helped me so much appreciating books and wanting to read them myself. And should i ever had kids (lol........ one can dream...) i will DEFINITELY read for them as well. Including making different voices for every character.
I sang to my son every night. One of the songs was Do-Re-Mi; he was obsessed with it. I decided I'd teach him how to read music at the same time I taught him how to read words - and now he's now a pianist.
My mom not only read to me, she read comics (among other books). Together we discovered the Duck books by Carl Barks and the Toole-Wiseman Dennis the Menace. Even after I'd aged past bedtime reading she kept an interest in comics -- big fan of Pogo and Asterix.
Yep reading was huge in my house, by 4 I was reading on my own and continued to jump ahead in reading throughout my school years. I think it was due to being read to and given tons of books 📚 and Mom started us going to the library weekly from 1st grade. It felt so grown up to pick out my own books and check them out. 😁Happy memories 💚💚
Sophia Loren is a certified Hollywood legend. Her filmography goes back to the 1950s. She was born in Italy and started her acting career there transitioning to Hollywood and becoming an icon.
No, people indeed do read and sing lullabies with their children. My parents did it with me and I read to my son every night and have sang to him many times.
So as far as having Pop die in the movie…. I heard somewhere (and I don’t know where ) that Burgess health was failing when this sequel was being planned and BM requested that his character’s death be written into the movie One so that he could say goodbye to his fans, and two so that his death in real life wouldn’t complicate further sequels to this movie because he believed so strongly in the ensemble cast of older actors …. Sadly this was still the last movie in this franchise, though Walter and Jack went on to do the Odd couple 2 using the same dynamic they used here
One of Jack Lemmon's best performances is in Glengarry Glen Ross. You can watch that movie a dozen times and each time you'll find something new to appreciate in his performance.
Thank you for posting this, Ashleigh. Walter Matthau's , Jack Lemmon's and Burgess Meredith's characters remind me of my late Grandfathers. The way they behaved and the antics. Good memories.
I absolutely love your reactions. I worked on this film as an extra for 3 days during the wedding scenes at the end. So the only main character I wasnt able to work with was Burgess Meredeth (the old man) since he had wrapped by that time. Sophia Loren (Maria) even made spaghetti for us one day. If you know the Dick Van Dyke show and remember the next door neighbor Millie Helper...she is the one who played "Momma" in this film. Great times and experiences on this set.
For the record, I read bedtime stories and sang songs to my son at bedtime. My favorite song to sing was the Kenny Loggins classic “Return to Pooh Corner” while his favorite book was “If I had a Dragon”. He will be 17 soon, so this wasn’t that long ago.
If you wanna continue with the Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathou movies you could watch The Odd Couole movies. I can't vouch for the first one, if I saw it I don't remember any of it so I don't know if it's any good. But part 2 is hilarious.
"Chesticles" 🤣🤣 I'm so glad I wasn't drinking when Ashleigh said that because I would have sprayed my living room. Ashleigh please react to The Fortune Cookie with Lemmon and Mathau.
Another good two to watch are "Mr. Roberts" which was one of Jack Lemmons earliest films and starred Henry Fonda in his iconic role, and "On Golden Pond," which was Henry Fonda's last film, and also starred his daughter, Jane. Great films, both!
Sophia Loren (Maria) is the Italian bombshell of a previous generation but still a knockout into her latter years! Similarly Ann Margret (Ariel) is an American bombshell of the same era who is still a knockout. Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau (John and Max) starred together in “The Odd Couple” which later became a tv series. (However without them.)
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon has been in more movies together. Another one you would definitely like is The Odd Couple from 1968 and The Odd Couple 2 from 1998. 😁
Ashleigh love., Burgess Meredith (pops) had been struggling during the filming of this movie and his health took a turn, so they decided to handle pops death like it would happen in real life- suddenly without warning. This part of the movie always breaks me up because thats how it 99% of the time happens- out of nowhere. But he died doing what he loved. And sitting with him for a bit- yea, I did that with my grandma. Its actually a special time waiting for the squad- its when time stands still. Just stillness and your memories, and the hope they will open their eyes. Its precious. 💕
I had a consultation with a doctor for a surgery at a hospital in Los Angeles about 1990 and met Jack Lemon in the lobby. Great guy and seemed pleased that I recognized him yet didn't bother him for an autograph. I felt it would have been rude at a hospital, but he gave me the warmest smile and greeting!
Dude, I never watched Grumpy Old Men, but I watched this a TON of times growing up. Been waiting for you to get to it, thanks! Also, Sophia Loren... Wow.
I'm still shocked that you didn't connect that Burgess Meredith, who played Pops, also played Mickey from the "Rocky" movies. Since you've watched these, you definitely need to watch "The Odd Couple", which is the best pairing of Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathau.
I agree The odd couple is a must see. Also Out to Sea which is not as big but if you like Grumpy Old Men then Out To Sea is in the same vain. The Odd Couple is just a classic comedy that if you like comedies then you have to see it.
So I haven't even watched the review yet. But this. THIS. Is one of my favorite movies of all time. My great grandparents had 3 movies when I was little; Grumpier Old Men, Home Alone (the first one), and Mrs. Doubtfire, and I've watched them time and time and time again. This movie reminds me of them every time I watch it, and I love it dearly. Here's to hoping you like it :D
Mama Ragetti was played by the great Ann Morgan Guilbert. She played Laura Petrie’s best friend on The Dick Van Dyke Show and Fran Fine’s grandmother on The Nanny. In real life, she’s the mother of actress Hallie Todd who played Data’s daughter on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Lizzie McGuire’s mother on, well, Lizzie McGuire.
Both of my parents read to my 3 sisters and I every night. They both worked long hours I don't know how they found the energy, but we are all readers still.
No lullabies but plenty of reading parents and grandparents. I also read to my kids and made up bedtime stories for them. Burgess Meredith (grandpa) was a great actor and could be hilarious or damn serious. He played the Penguin in TV's campy Batman, the trainer in the Rocky movies, and was in some of the best Twilight Zone(original) episodes, among too many to count.
3 things Ashleigh, first, Burgess Meredith has such good game because he never stopped. Second, kids are amazing and you would make a fun and full of life mom. Finally, never stop these reactions, they are so fun, entertaining and always brings me back to when I first watched them and I'm only 38.
That's sort of how most deaths happen in the real world.... without warning. So remember to always be on top of the things you want to have said to the people you love, so there are no regrets.
7:55 It doesn’t just exist in movies, Ashleigh! When I was young my dad used to sing to me The Yellow Rose of Texas and every night the story would be Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which is why this is one of my all time favorite movies ❤️
Burgess Meredith (pops) growing up was the man with all the time in the world to read his books, and the one and only Penguin from the 1960's Batman series. He popped up again as Rocky's coach in the mid "70's". And finally for me here in these wonderful movies. R.I.P. to everyone who has passed that we just watched and laughed to.
Great reaction Ashleigh. Both the grumpy old men movies are great glad you saw and enjoyed them. Thanks to Ingybingy 2000 (don't know if I spelled that correctly) for getting her to watch this movie. Keep up the great work and keep being you.
One of my favorite things about both of the films is that the state / town itself is a character. We see the winter time and then of course the spring the environment and elements play with the characters in affect them throughout the film it’s just one of those little things that I’ve always appreciated about both films :-) also as a 34-year-old who grew up watching this movie on TNT multiple times and continuously watches both of these films at least once or twice a year - the speech about Bacon… I think of it every time I cook bacon :-) literally every time lol
I ❤️ Burgess Meredith as the Penguin in '66 Batman TV series, awesome as Rocky's trainer, but pops was my favorite. So full of life and wisdom to the end. I almost cried in the beginning when you wondered if he was going to die. Awesome reaction Ash.
Sophia Loren is a national treasure of Italy. In fact, she, Gina Lollobrigida, Monica Bellucci, Claudia Cardinale, and Daniela Bianchi made up a good portion of the Italian Mountain range.
I sang to my son. We would sit in the soft light, and he would hold my hand, and I would sing my favorites. As he grew, he would get to pick out which three songs he wanted each night. It was a very important part of our bedtime ritual, and it was lovely
My parents told stories and lullabies to me when I was little. In fact, when I was as old as 12 years, my father would tell me stories on the way to and from work. Some of the stories were his experiences during the war, some of them were made up off the top of his head. He also taught me some dirty jokes that can't be told today, and some songs, both real, modified and invented. Like one he sang about a 19-year old areo-gunner, to the tune of "My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean"... last stanza: "take down your blue star mother "put up your star made of gold "they made me an areo-gunner "I died when I was 19 years old..." But he also sang "modified" versions of songs popular when he was young: "I'll be down to get you in a taxi honey "You'd better be ready around half past eight "Ah baby don't be late I want to be there when the band starts playin'" My dad's version went something like: "I'll be there to get you in a wheelbarrow honey "cause taxis cost too darn much money..." And he had his own version of Show Me the Way to Go Home: "Indicate the way to my abode "I am fatigued and I wish to retire "had a little nip about an hour pretense "and it went straight to my... cer-a-bell-um.. "now wherever I may perambulate "over terra-firma, H2O or atmospheric vapor, "you can always count on me chanting this melody "Indicate the way to my abode" It's been 22 years and sometimes I still miss him more than I can stand... like... now...
I love these movies so much! Jack Lemmon was such a great actor. Please watch The Apartment from 1960, starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. It is hilarious, but you may cry. I do.
I love the Grumpy Old Men movies. The 2 Grumpy Old Men movies have a certain, lovely, warm charm to them. For example, I love how the scenery of the state of Minnesota is practically a co-star. In Grumpy Old Men we get to see how nice Minnesota looks with all that snow and ice. And in Grumpier Old Men we get to see what it looks like underneath all that snow and ice. Just beautiful. The small hometown feel also really adds to the charm. Makes one want to move there to live and hopefully have Max, John, Pop, and Ariel (and all the others) as neighbors.
7:41 I don't know chess at all beyond the basic idea of it, and yet "Searching for Bobby Fischer" is one of my all-time favorite movies. (I hope you'll get to it in about 4 years at the rate you're going.) Why? Because it's about a little boy who becomes a chess prodigy and his dad figuring out what to do about it. It's not about chess. It's about what a parent needs to do when his or her child is good at something. If I ran a TV network (if you don't know what that is, I'll explain later), I'd re-show "Searching for Bobby Fischer" on Father's Day the way they do the 10 Commandments at Easter.
If you liked this you need to watch Houseboat. It stars Sophia Loren (the.... well endowed girl). It's an older movie, late 50's, but I think you'll like it as well
Of course you know why Lemmon & Matthau were such a good match? They did a little (blockbuster) movie years earlier called "The Odd Couple" where they played two diametrically opposed bachelors sharing an apartment in NYC. They played essentially the same characters as in Grumpy Old Men. It was a major money making combination.
I went trick or treating with a group and we worked up the nerve to try the run down "weird people" house. I got a WWII motorcycle headlight. Years later they both passed. Turns out they were multi millionaires.
This cast are legendary actors. You really miss out if you don't go back and see some of their work in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Regarding story time and lullabies, yes - so many great memories of reading with my kids and I would sing to them every night as I scratched their backs. I would also tell them every night what they did that day that I was proud of - even if they were terrors at times, there was always something good. They're awesome teenagers now and I'm thrilled to be their dad.
Burgess Meredith had such a wide range Ashley, From Rockys coach to the Penguin in the Batman TV show. I really liked him in Foul Play (1978). I hope you get to see it soon. On another note the world lost James Cann this week. I would like to vote for you to watch Brian's Song.
25:26 - it's funny you say that because there's a funny picture you can find online from 1957 where a younger Sophia Loren gives a not-so-funny glare to the "bossom" of one Jayne Mansfield who's *really* puttin' them out for all to see 😆
There's a bit of a back story to that famous pic. It was a party welcoming Sophia Loren to the US (and Hollywood) and Jayne crashed the party uninvited to steal some of the spotlight. Jayne was a very driven woman and would do almost anything to draw attention to herself and her fledgling career. And yes, Sophia was very much NOT HAPPY about it from everything I've read.
@@taun856 actually I just read an article from Vanity Fair where Sophia Loren stated the reason she gave that glare was because she was afraid "something" was gonna fall out. If you look at other pictures from that same night with the two of them she might have been on to something 😆
My parents read to me all the time. My sister gathers her 6 children every night and reads whatever books they ask her to read to them. It's not only common, but encouraged by experts as its very good for children. We definitely learn lullibies too.
I believe this would be the last film appearance of Burgess Meredith before his death. And since if you check out a movie featuring an actor who passed away, sadly actor James Caan passed away yesterday. If you select a movie with him in it, may I recommend Bulletproof where he co-starred with Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans.
Yeah, recommend any Ann-Margaret movie with Elvis or Boy on a Dolphin or Two Women for Sophia Loren if Ashleigh is curious to see what all the fuss really was. Or and any time Jack Lemmon comes up, gotta recommend The Apartment and Some Like It Hot.
@@mattperiolat The Apartment and Some Like It Hot are my favs of his. If you want to see a more serious Jack Lemmon film, you should watch Days of Wine And Roses. He blew me away in that movie

It was with shock and awe that the movie casted legendary actress Sophia Loren as Maria. The biggest star on two continents, made men and boys drool in every generation since she started performing. Definitely the W in Woman. To see her act with another actress legend Ann Margaret in one film is mind exploding.

Y'all, we gotta get Ashleigh to watch the original Odd Couple so she can see Matthau and Lemmon (the Old Men) when they were young.
I agree. Loved the chemistry between Lemmon and Matthau in all of their movies, but it is in The Odd Couple where it shows them at their best.
"so she can see Matthau and Lemon (the Old Men) when they were young." and let us know whether one or both could "get it"

You would love "Houseboat" with Sophia Loren and Carey Grant! 😍
Edit: also, I sang babies to sleep even though I'm a terrible singer, and I did read to my kids a LOT as they grew! (just not always at bedtime.) Reading helps kids in all other areas of school and life!
Houseboat is one of my favorite romance movies…and Sophia Loren is the reason why.
The caneloni joke has been killing me since the 90s. I saw it in the trailer when this movie came out and it randomly enters my mind to this day and makes me laugh
I always preferred the "man size manicotti... Beautiful.." alternate take.. lol
@@mcgilj1 I love the outtakes!!
RIP, Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon! They will always be the funniest duo I've ever seen!
Always!

My absolute Favorite Comedy duo.

If you like Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in the Grumpy Old Men series, you should watch them in The Odd Couple from 1968
And also The Odd Couple 2 from 1998!!!
@@vovindequasahi Let's be honest. Odd Couple 2 wasn't very good.
@@garyglaser8292 Hey it was alright. The chemistry between Jack and Walter was still gold!
Definitely don’t miss The Odd Couple. Pee you pants worthy!

My mother was watching TV & said, "I think I'm going to pass out".
What she meant was, Pass Away... 😭
I hope she watches "Rollerball". Or "Thief".
Giving tree turned me into a blubbering mess every time i read it for my kids. I hate that story so much.
I'm 51, my mom passed away 6 years ago, and I can still hear her singing me a lullaby.
She really needs to see both "The Great Race", and the original "Bad News Bears".
@@Britcarjunkie I concur
I read to my 3 boys every night until they all learned to read. Some of my fondest memories 😊
Sadly this was still the last movie in this franchise, though Walter and Jack went on to do the Odd couple 2 using the same dynamic they used here
My wife and I sung lullaby to our sons when they were small babies and toddlers, so it's not just in movies. :)
So HAPPY that you reacted to the sequel! So GOOD.
Sophia Loren was seventy two when she posed for the 2007 Pirelli Tire calendar. SEVENTY TWO. The woman is a goddess.
These two movies are such a darn treasure.
When pops said in the beginning that he thought God forgot about him, that was the clue that he was going to pass away.
Another good two to watch are "Mr. Roberts" which was one of Jack Lemmons earliest films and starred Henry Fonda in his iconic role, and "On Golden Pond," which was Henry Fonda's last film, and also starred his daughter, Jane. Great films, both!
I love On Golden Pond
Sophia Loren (Maria) is the Italian bombshell of a previous generation but still a knockout into her latter years! Similarly Ann Margret (Ariel) is an American bombshell of the same era who is still a knockout.
Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau (John and Max) starred together in “The Odd Couple” which later became a tv series. (However without them.)
"I've got to be careful with my hair, I look a little nakie. Anything for the views!" 😂 Never change Ashleigh.
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon has been in more movies together. Another one you would definitely like is The Odd Couple from 1968 and The Odd Couple 2 from 1998. 😁
Yes! Odd Couple 2 especially
I knew you would love the twist at the end
I had a consultation with a doctor for a surgery at a hospital in Los Angeles about 1990 and met Jack Lemon in the lobby. Great guy and seemed pleased that I recognized him yet didn't bother him for an autograph. I felt it would have been rude at a hospital, but he gave me the warmest smile and greeting!
Dude, I never watched Grumpy Old Men, but I watched this a TON of times growing up. Been waiting for you to get to it, thanks!
Also, Sophia Loren... Wow.
Ashleigh: "My heart's not going to take it if he dies in this film!" Us:😬
I'm still shocked that you didn't connect that Burgess Meredith, who played Pops, also played Mickey from the "Rocky" movies.
Since you've watched these, you definitely need to watch "The Odd Couple", which is the best pairing of Jack Lemmon and Walter Mathau.
You took the words right outa my mouth.
I agree The odd couple is a must see. Also Out to Sea which is not as big but if you like Grumpy Old Men then Out To Sea is in the same vain. The Odd Couple is just a classic comedy that if you like comedies then you have to see it.
If you watched past reactions she literally never recognizes anyone!! Ever!!!
@@wilvin2263 Out to Sea is not really that great a film. It's probably the weakest movie they made as a team.
@@sweetkiss119 oh I know, lol. If she does recognize them, she forgets their names.
Pop don't have time to fool around so he just goes for it. Straight to the point. Gotta love it.
I read to my 4 year old son every night. He has a home made bookshelf that's almost full with books for him now and when he is older.
Such a classic film. Love all the one liners by everyone and your reactions are priceless.
Two actors in this movie has been in an Elvis movie. Walter Matthau was in, _"King Creole"_ and Ann Margaret who was in _"Viva Las Vegas"._
Another touching/funny movie with an older cast is "Batteries not Included" I love that movie
Ashleigh, I read & dang lullabies to both my children….and they’re 19 years apart!
8:42 Ooh Max Wright from Alf!
I absolutely love your reviews. You're more entertaining than the movies!
7:55 It doesn’t just exist in movies, Ashleigh! When I was young my dad used to sing to me The Yellow Rose of Texas and every night the story would be Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which is why this is one of my all time favorite movies ❤️
My mother read to us every night for years. We loved it. It’s definitely not just in movies!!
Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon were originally amazing in the movie “The Odd Couple”!
Ashleigh: Love this reaction. I worked in radio for 51 years. Glad to see you're doing something else that you love.
My parents read to me and my sister every night. Helped fuel my lifelong addiction to both reading and writing.
Time for the OG The Bad News Bears with Walter Matthau
I ❤️ Burgess Meredith as the Penguin in '66 Batman TV series, awesome as Rocky's trainer, but pops was my favorite. So full of life and wisdom to the end. I almost cried in the beginning when you wondered if he was going to die. Awesome reaction Ash.
Sophia Loren is a national treasure of Italy. In fact, she, Gina Lollobrigida, Monica Bellucci, Claudia Cardinale, and Daniela Bianchi made up a good portion of the Italian Mountain range.
Simply brilliant!
I see what you did there.🤣🤣
👀🫣🤭
I sang to my son.
We would sit in the soft light, and he would hold my hand, and I would sing my favorites. As he grew, he would get to pick out which three songs he wanted each night. It was a very important part of our bedtime ritual, and it was lovely
Another fun reaction, and while I miss the attic, I am loving this new reaction set up!! The yellow chair is a moood!
I’m just glad she’s not dying of heatstroke in that attic!
Like one he sang about a 19-year old areo-gunner, to the tune of "My Bonny Lies Over the Ocean"...
last stanza:
"take down your blue star mother
"put up your star made of gold
"they made me an areo-gunner
"I died when I was 19 years old..."
But he also sang "modified" versions of songs popular when he was young:
"I'll be down to get you in a taxi honey
"You'd better be ready around half past eight
"Ah baby don't be late I want to be there when the band starts playin'"
My dad's version went something like:
"I'll be there to get you in a wheelbarrow honey
"cause taxis cost too darn much money..."
And he had his own version of Show Me the Way to Go Home:
"Indicate the way to my abode
"I am fatigued and I wish to retire
"had a little nip about an hour pretense
"and it went straight to my... cer-a-bell-um..
"now wherever I may perambulate
"over terra-firma, H2O or atmospheric vapor,
"you can always count on me chanting this melody
"Indicate the way to my abode"
It's been 22 years and sometimes I still miss him more than I can stand... like...
I absolutely LOVE that movie!
Great reaction! 👍🏿 I saw the first film and the sequel in the theaters. I loved both of them. These comedies are classics.
Calling Ann Margaret pretty is a DUH moment. You really need to watch her in Viva Las Vegas with Elvis to see just how she captivated a generation.
And Bye Bye Birdie
Burgess Meredith had such a wide range Ashley, From Rockys coach to the Penguin in the Batman TV show. I really liked him in Foul Play (1978). I hope you get to see it soon. On another note the world lost James Cann this week. I would like to vote for you to watch Brian's Song.
I actually prefer this one to the first one. I used to watch these movies with my parents. Thanks for reacting.
"Why do you have two TV's right next to each other?"...very much and 80's and 90's thing, you wouldn't understand. Lol
"My heart isn't going to take it if his dad dies in this film" Welp, uhhhh...this is awkward.
We had this on VHS back when I was living with my mom. It never fails to make me laugh especially the blooper reel
I seriously love all of your reviews dickhead! ❤
omg Ash i been WAITING for this one since you did the first!!!
Brians Song is another good movie with James Caan,
I think she watched “Misery” a while back. And she saw “The Godfather,” though wasn’t a fan of it.
In a way they _DID_ do the fish joke again. The joke was all about making his car _STINK!_ The dog accomplished the same goal. 🥰😂
Ann Margaret was always so pretty 😍. And Sophia Loren in the sequel was also pretty too 😍
Yeah, recommend any Ann-Margaret movie with Elvis or Boy on a Dolphin or Two Women for Sophia Loren if Ashleigh is curious to see what all the fuss really was. Or and any time Jack Lemmon comes up, gotta recommend The Apartment and Some Like It Hot.
