When I saw this film, I was shocked by the good performance by Tom Arnold. Tom was the prior husband of Roseanne Barr, and he was known for his out of control drug and alcohol binges. On the first day of filming this movie, Tom was late and then he started going off script with his schtick. Arnold took him aside and explained that they were making a movie, and every hour costs thousands of dollars. Arnold explained to Tom that this would not happen again, and Tom turned in a good performance.

My favorite behind the scenes story with this film is that with the scene where Arnold breaks the car window, he was supposed to hit a different window that was rigged with safety glass. Instead, he accidentally broke a real car window with his bare hand which is the take you see in the film. By the end of the movie, when he saves her life, she seems more grateful and different from earlier and even says sorry or something along those lines, though it probably wasn't about the cash, most likely her general behavior. I honestly love how you love and appreciate the beauty of other women. Even women who might not get as much attention to their looks you will find something, some feature of theirs, that you think is beautiful and you share that appreciation.
I think, firstly, that women need to appreciate the beauty of other women more often. Secondly, I think that we, as a society of men, women and children, need to get more comfortable complimenting and receiving compliments that have no other motive than just letting a person know that you see them and find beauty in them; their glasses, their hair, a colour their wearing, their smile, the way they carry themselves.
So, Ashleigh, thank you for being fearless in your compliments. It's just one more reason I love watching you react because they come so naturally.

Like we'd record somebody throwing a bowling ball down the lane, and stop the recording just before it hits the pins. Anyway, one of the scenes we recorded was the Jamie Lee Curtis dancing scene from this movie. I didn't figure out what movie it was until like 10 years later, but still. Reminds me of the fall Donald Glover has in "The Martian". His introduction as Rich Purnell, genius, has him starting to leave the room, taking a tumble, then popping right back up & completing the scene. That was real; he really fell. But they kept it in because it worked. It went along with a goofus genius living in his office and losing track of the freshness of his coffee, which he spits right out but into a metal mesh wastebasket.
With Helen, it works because she's an amateur, but committed to her mission.

    Roseanne Barr, that's who.
Fun Fact: The set of bra and matching panties worn by Helen Tasker during the striptease scene were Jamie Lee Curtis's own. Curtis rehearsed the scene extensively with director James Cameron, and it was there that the fall she makes in the middle of the dance was conceived (it didn't happen spontaneously during the actual shooting, as is often claimed). Arnold Schwarzenegger was not told of this beforehand, and this is hinted at when Harry briefly sits up in alarm, realizes that he is breaking character, and then relaxes. @@LA_HA So what you two are saying is that they are establishing her as a kleptomaniac in the money stealing scene so we'll know that later she steals the key because she just can't help it but steal everything in her surroundings? is that what you think the point here? if that's true so please tell me what is the point of letting us know she's dating a guy on a bike was meant for?
I'm not saying these two scenes aren't connected, just that it's more complex than what you and Benjamin suggest, we don't see her steal the money so we'll know she steals stuff and when the key is missing we'll think: "who do we know in the movie that steals things?", my assumption is that they showed her stealing the money to show us how Harry's absence effected her moral standards in life, that's why they show Harry is surprised to know "she's stealing from me?" to show he doesn't know his daughter and doesn't know her as someone who's capable of stealing, and they coupled it with her dating the bad guy to show her general moral decline in life.
Later they use the same action of stealing something to show the opposite, she could have just run without taking the key, but she steals the key because she wants to stop the terrorist from using it while risking her life, that shows us that when the stakes are high she still got the same brave and moral personality like both of her parents, that's an arc showing that Harry's family is going to a more healthier place when they getting more and more closer to finding out the truth about him, just like when Helen became bad ass when the stakes are high and Harry stopped lying to her.
That is my take on this, I could be wrong, I could be right, we don't know, but as I see it there are more logical evidence that support my assumption rather than the claim that she just love to steal stuff.

@@E_y_a_l I neglected to say that what you're saying isn't wrong at all. "The gun" is rarely just a gun. The gun comes about because of someone and/or something else. It's (usually) a symbol for a human trait or situation.
So, you're 100% right in your view of the daughter, her relationship to Harry and perhaps her mother, the rebellion, etc. This is where her ability to stealthily steal comes into play. She's not only going through adolescence, which is hard enough on its face, but she has a rebellious heart because of the family dynamic.
Therefore, like the gun, her theft isn't just ability for the sake of stealing the key later. It'll be a gimmick in that case.
Instead, it's born of her character, which in turn shows the deeper issues going on with Harry and his family because of the Way he does things (great at his job, but failing and neglecting his family; as his friend and partner tells him).
You can say that there are a few guns that are shown in the first act. We just don't recognize them as guns Until they go off in the later acts.
That's what I was trying to say, but only got half way there. haha

A TV show with a multi-million dollar budget and a crew of 200 people can still only manage to pump out 23 minutes of content a week and then only for 20 weeks a year with a multiple month break between seasons.
You are giving 30 minutes to an hour of content twice a week and it's by yourself. And it's great content. You and all the other great content creators out there need to pace yourselves, give yourself a break, and know that the people who enjoy watching reactors aren't really phased if it takes an extra few days to see a reaction of a 30 year old movie :P

There are still plenty of good films being made but they are independent films. Blockbusters are just the same beats rehashed with different characters, the studio A24 produces some really creative and engaging movies. Also, lower budget movies are generally better in my opinion simply because they can't rely on big special effects, so they have to be creative and have a good story instead.

@@2buxaslice - Yes, I've been watching many more independent films the past 10 years, but I am not even seeing any of those I want to go watch. They seem to have some extreme agenda. The Distributors are likely controlling that, after the Hollywood distributors (and Studios) controlled what mainstream movies were to be made and distributed. Peanut butter Falcon was a great movie. I also really liked Foxtrot, from Israel.

I worked in a movie theatre when this movie came out. Every usher knew exactly the moment the dance scene took place. The exact moment for every showing
The part where she falls wasn't in the script. Jamie Lee and the director came up with this and didn't tell Arnold. So his reaction when she fell was real.

Yes, the AV-8B Harrier "jump jet" can do vertical landings (and take-offs if lightly loaded, otherwise short take-offs). The US Marines and Royal Navy (UK) operated these for many years, before replacing it with the F-35B, which is a modern stealth fighter with the same flight capabilities (plus supersonic speed).

Cameron wrote True Lies, Terminator 2 and Aliens at the same time. He kept three desks, with three different computer systems, and when he got stuck on one screenplay, he would roll his chair from one desk to another. The song Jamie Lee was dancing to was by John Hiatt, and was one of my favorites before this film was made..Falling off the bedpost was actually an accident, and the timing of her recovery (and Arnold's jumping out of the chair) was so perfect, Cameron just kept the entire shot.

This movie will always be extra special to me. I was pregnant with my first child. My husband and I had just been to the doctor for my mid-pregnancy ultrasound. I hadn't realized how different this one would be from the ones I'd had early on. So much detail and movement--which I hadn't yet felt--it was just SO amazing! Afterward, we went for lunch and a movie--True Lies! All during the film, I kept remembering the head and spine shots and how the baby moved around, and I sat there in the dark grinning like crazy. It was one of the happiest days of my life!
