My mother’s doctor recently put her on whole 30 for 3 months, and she loves it so far (minus not being able to have oatmeal) and I’m so happy to see her eating better and getting creative in the kitchen , that I’m doing it with her. We will def be using your recipes. Didn’t know you could have Plaintain chips!

Thank you Yvonne! Yes you are right it is more expensive to eat healthy. I try to buy items that are on sale and always try to buy my meats from Costco in bulk which saves a lot of money. I would rather spend money on healthy foods than on medicine later on. Thanks for watching! 😀

You are right. That is a new rule and I am not sure why it was changed. I have done many rounds of the whole30 and store bought plantain chips use to be compliant. I will not be following the new rule.
Yes and vegetable oils are not Whole30 approved which was one of the ingredients in the chips. I think that's the reason why they probably decided to not approve store bought chips. To me those chips actually would have been fine aside from the vegetable oils are not Whole30 compliant. They do make exceptions though when you are dining out as almost every restaurant uses these oils. But for snacks it's a rule to eliminate them...makes sense as these oils are highly inflammatory.
I think they're mostly not approved because they're considered a snack food, which Whole30 wants you to avoid altogether. Plantain chips with nothing on them but salt would be Whole30 compliant, but no chip is Whole30 approved.

The rule change with the chips is because this isn't a very nutrient dense food and can push other more nutritious options off your plate. However, Melissa Urban has always encouraged having a snack if you are on the go, hungry, and need something, or as fuel for pre-workout/post workout when you need it, are finding your energy levels low, and especially when you are getting used to the program and figuring out how big your meals should be Also, homemade plantain chips are fine as per the new rules. For me, I might make these once or twice through the program and have them as a side to an already nutrient dense meal.
Technically no chips are Whole30 compliant because they're a snacky junk food, but personally I didn't adhere religiously to that. There are some brands that are cooked in avocado or coconut oil with no extra ingredients other than salt, so those are what I buy. I also eat a lot of smoothies which are Whole30 no-no (they want you to eat the actual whole foods), but I have texture issues with many fruits and some veggies, so for me it's the best way to get adequate servings of produce.
