FIRST DRIVE In Our Clapped Out Rat Rod Chevy C10 - Vice Grip Garage EP52
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 фев 2025
- Small fire. No heat. No brakes. No cares? This is gotta' be the worst way to test drive an old rat rod truck that literally hasn't been on the street in 20+ years. There are a few more upgrades to make to the old Chevrolet c10, then I'm just going to attempt to drive it to a car show in a snow storm.

This guy literally kills me, absolutely hilarious and I hope this channel gets to 1M subs for more videos
Thanks landon
Landon Roy couldn't agree more!👍🏻😄
His precission is beyond accurate 3.5 kicks and 76% choke 😂 he should get 1M easily
Strap on yur seatbelts folks. I think this is gonna be a very fast growing channel. This dude is hilarious and he has lots of sweet rides on here. What more could a guy ask fur? Cold snacks? He's got those too.
@@ViceGripGarage Love the videos. What kind of cameras are you using?
3 and a half pumps and 76% choke. Reminds a guy of the wife.
Rick Baker award wining comment 🤣🤣🤣
Lol...really?
Greatest comment of the year so far
Or lack of a wife.
ROTFLMAO! The wife even thought that was funny :-)
When the torch came out to "defrost" the window i was rolling...lol
🤣🤣😎
LOL!!! That's the best!!! especially going down the HWY!!! You gotta love it.
I think the fan tip would be more appropriate but sometimes you just gotta run what ya brung.
I wonder if that comes from the factory? Kinda like a pinto the back windshield defroster is for those who do not require gloves to push on the car in winter lol. Hey I had a pinto in college 2.3 liter. Got pulled over by the police and always out of tickets they *felt bad for me*. So if you are going to college buy an old pos. And soup up the motor. )) Could get that thing up past 88 mph just could never go back in time. Little shaking never hurt the fenders. Never got laid in the thing i wonder why? So jimmie where were you conceived a dodge truck. Joey? A chev... Carl? a pos pinto...
Map gas no less!
You said you wanted suggestions.
For the exhaust noise put diesel stacks in.
I use long hose clamps to reinforce my frame
You can’t use 🦆 tape FOR EVERYTHING !!
Paint the grill and bumper FLAT white.
Don’t want to make the rest of the truck look bad! Just mask them off and PSSSSSSSSST!
When you paint something that gets hot use high temperature paint: it will stay on longer.
Move the shifter to the floor!!
No rear brakes make burnouts easier.
Rain X makes a anti fog juice!
Anytime you need advice: I know EVERYTHING!!
Hello from Michigan! I watch this channel almost every day.....I got 379.2 reasons to like this fella's work. A guy could really get some great laughs outta this. I went ahead and did the right thing and hit the subscribe button and the little bell deally a while back so I could enjoy content whenever I need a smile. The Monza is my favorite. Thanks for this, I just want ya to know that a lot of people really appreciate what you do. Best of all things to you and yours!
Thanks travis, appreciate ya!
GREAT SHOW THIS GA BOY LIKES IT ALOT TOO@@ViceGripGarage
Yep I'm from Michigan watching on the Nebraska South Dakota border. I just scored me an 85 3/4 ton Suburban in such good shape my folks at home hardly believe it. Fairly new to the channel but yeah Michigan represent.
This channel is the best thing I’ve discovered during this whole shelter in place just bingeing away and working on my own 66 c10
@tammy lott I’m a Republican myself but I, like many others came here to get away from this kind of crap...get over it and take it someplace else. AND TURN THE CAPS LOCK OFF.
@@corydriver7634 I totally 💯 agree. I’m from ALABAMA !!!!!!!
I watch Derrick everyday. I have owned classics since I was 13. (1963). He has the best show on You tube. With this Pandemic. He has brought much entertainment to a lot of us car guys. Thank you Derrick.
I'd rather make an oil filter out of an empty cold snack can filled with sand and duct taped on than use a fram. 😂 Great channel 👍
Amen brother
Fram....Orange Can Of Doom
What oil filter(s) do you recommend?
@@rollinmark8952 Wix, Napa, Mobil 1, K&N, STP, Puralator..... in that order. Never a Fram.

I know nothing about cars, but love watching this guy's videos, love the self depreciating humour, I know he knows exactly what he doing
Ofcourse he does. He's an expert mechanic. In diguise...😅😅😅
You could clean up an old car and make it ready for restoration.
I love his sense of humor. He doesn't take himself toooooo serious and I think, that makes him such a great guy and a good family man. Let's just assume,he's a great family man,the way he gets along with his kids....and the way he teaches them.Plus,I truly believe,he's an excellent mechanic and he knows what he's doing, every step of the way....his channel is all about dry sense of humor and comedy...
Just did a small random sampling of the comments and not one dislike. Not surprised. You're a hero, man! No politics, just light relief in heavy times!
Well isn't this a great Saturday night now!
Thanks Stacey
Just found your channel yesterday and have a had a blast watching ,you had me at sparkalators lol
Still the best watch on youtube brother. Dont ever change
I clicked LIKE before even watching. Every Vice Grip Garage video is excellent.
As we all should!
Thanks!!
I was a mechanic until I ran away to the military. I learn so much from this guy. Even when he's being 'careless,' he's teaching.
Dude, I have been watching RUclips videos since before Google owned RUclips and I have never felt compelled to subscribe to any channel until I found your channel. Keep it coming!
This channel should be at 1 mill.
Thank you Nick - maybe some day
@@ViceGripGarage should have your own tv show, or very least be a top gear presenter. A guy jus gotta do it 👍
Nothing like a good pair of Carhartt overalls. Best channel man. Thanks for the content

A wood stove in the back and some piping would take care of the heat and defrost situation.

Yeah
And the next oil change, he needs to use Crisco.
Since you like Chevy so much, please find a 67 Nova sedan preferably.
Mobile 1 20w50 is what I use
A guy might go with Vanilla Ice, Ice T or the like for their Rap name. This guy's rap name is Rotella T. Peace out !
I love these old Chevy trucks. I’d love to have a project like that to drive around. You’re truly a fortunate man.
Big black wheels, big white letter tires. Repair as few body panels as needed and get some heat!! Add an LS1 and turbo automatic. Power steering and front disc brakes. Most of all Vice Grip Garage on doors of truck Hell Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great looking truck, up front. Back, not so much. Get rid of the box and replace it with a woodie. Wagon style. Fix back brakes. Wipers, heat. Blowers. Make it - Comfy. Seats are good. Cup holder too! Patina is a treasure. Enjoying the show and the sarky patter!
I love the you stacked the fender repair license plates so that, unlike a roof shingle, water will be directed INTO the truck. Love your work!!!

The old big10
Oh and I can relate to the ear muffs on the highway, when I’m driving my 68 c10 at highway speeds it is so loud. Mostly wind noise. That old truck still hauls A though. 327 4 barrel with turbo 400 auto. My ideas below are exactly what I did with my 68, although my body is good except for one rocker panel. My grandpa bought it in 1970 so it’s our sentimental truck. Non car people don’t get it, my wife is one. He died in 1980 when I was only 3. When I’m driving his truck 40 years later it’s like a piece of him is still here.
I still have my pops 79 Dualie... We're the same blood...
Put a rocker panel on it, repaint it the same color. Gramps will be proud seeing you take care of the old beast. It'll put a smile on his face and a warmth in your heart knowing he is smiling at you caring for his beloved truck.
Derek my Man, you should write a book, and I'm serious. Call it " A feller doin' the right thaing". You could change the course of history.

3 speed on the column is my favorite, she’s a beauty!
@IrishStew n' theres your dinner
@IrishStew My Mom drove a 66 Biscayne 3 on the tree. My Dad loved it because it had a good old 307.
Mom hated it. It was sky blue and she claimed people would pull out in front of her all the time because they couldn't see her coming. Got in wrecks all the time. Truth was she wasn't the best driver.
Definitely do some signage on the doors that would look great! Mozzle put some steelys on her as well and a plug in heater from harbor freight will fix the defroster. Love the show.
Thanks Mathew
A guy can sure pass a lot of time when stuck at home against his will. This channel is my new addiction.
I drove a 79 Chevy short box van in Mexico for years , coolest van in town . All black no stickers or stripes , old school turbine mags with BF Goodrich TA radials , flares sun visor damn I wish I’d kept it
My #1 RUclips site! Pure intertainment. And learn alot along the way.
Should've left the burning leaves, you would've had heat and defrost that way!
"A shot of defrost" *turns on torch* 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Normally that's nice, but not when you're sittin' in it."
Evergreen.

Truck brings back memories. My first truck was a green 63 Chevy

Red Green meets Power Nation! Great. My new favorite channel.
Exactly ... just found this channel last week and Derek immediately reminded me of Red Green. I'm hooked and working my way through all the content. Best entertainment I've seen in a long time.
In one of the earlier videos of this truck you made me laugh so hard I spit coffee into my keyboard when you said I'm using on of those tie the couch down to the roof of your Taurus Straps.
I would love to find a '73 Dodge PU, the long bed with a 318 motor, losts of superficial rust but no cancer. I owned one of those 25 years ago and I still miss it. Watching you bring this old pickup back reminded me of that truck. Thanks.
Looks good...the truck does need “ViseGrip Garage” painted on the doors, with a faded old-timey patina..
Shop truck
yup
I taught myself to drive a 3 speed on the column with a 1961 version of this truck at 15 yrs old. The front bench seat was very roomy if you catch my drift. Derek your channel is very entertaining, keep up the good work!!
Says he'd rather have the cheque if she's stolen, yet Derek's putting grease in the ball joints?!
Oh boy, somebody's in love.
Yeah, hes fightin it hard, but Lawsuit stole his heart the day he laid eyes on her. Lol
50 years ago when I graduated from high school Me and my friend drove that same model 11 thousand miles around this great country. It was in somewhat better condition than that .It makes me feel old.It brings back good memories. Thanks
Schaefer’s Moly EP works miracles on noisy lifters. I strongly recommend using it. No joke. I’ve made believers with it.
Just happened to notice on a few different videos now, the ole' swingin' skill saw in the background hanging by the make it go cord. It adds a little something to the vids, Nice!
Awesome video! Loved the defrost but I lost my sh/! On the Miley cirus comment!!!! Love this man! Never stop being you!
Thanks Aaron👍
“Weight reduction”is in these days after the holidays... love the patina
A drop visor made out of old license plates to match the weight reduction repairs, love the show, real entertainment. Keep it up. Ear muffs and a torch.
I use my old oil to paint on my fence panels - the stink goes after a few days and the wood loves it!!
Cracked me up when you said what kind of animal was that that was crawling on your door! Great videos.
Thanks Kyle
When he used the flamethrower to defrost on the highway. I couldn’t stop laughing
Glad you enjoyed
Vice Grip Garage have you heard of cruising the coast?
Once or twice yeah
Vice Grip Garage I live in Mississippi and went last year and there were 9000 registered cars. 10,000 weren’t registered. Idk how much trouble it would be for you but if you could get the chance it’s worth it.

"...when your truck shakes more than Miley Cyrus twerkin..." Yep.
I bought one of those 65 on Ebay off this feller, sight unseen. 6500.00! He said it had minimal bed rust. Yeah right! I got there and he was not there so I left after seeing the rust bucket. He called and insisted I come back and purchase it or he would give me bad feedback . Hahahha. Some people are just not honest! I got out of it with 100 bucks sent to him by Paypal. I knew it had some rust but it had no floor boards. Total Flintstone car. Still looking for something. Found a 65 Superbee for 29 grand I am pondering on so ..... good job on your channel! Love it!
Traveling to the show at 55 mph, Oil almost 50 psi, almost charging, engine cool as Steve McQueen and a full tank! Man, that's living the dream. Merca!
Fix the defrost, but not the wipers.....keeps a guy on his toes.
Excellent plan
@@ViceGripGarage I thought a guy shoulda just run some hose through the window wtih a heater core in the seat beside him....or maybe on the dash.
Actually those 74 dollar propane heaters will fix the issue of no heat, but you will still need a window defroster.
Also if you reach hard a window scraper/brush can be reached out the window while driving well at slow speeds!
Mr. Heater F232000 MH9BX Buddy 4,000-9,000-BTU Indoor-Safe Portable Propane Radiant Heater.
Indoor safe means can run inside the car and not nail you with CO.

Love this channel. Don't know why more folks don't use a blow torch to de-fog the old looking out the front window.
When I was 17 I had a 67 Chevelle. I bought a pair of 10in Cragars with bald N50’s on em. Of course they rubbed the fenders so after careful consideration, I jacked it up and started stacking short pieces of 2x4s between the coils and settin it back down until I had enough clearance. 4, it takes 4 2x4s on each spring to get enough clearance. On my first drive a couple fell out on the bumps. My budding inner engineer solved that design flaw with a strip of plumbers tape (that metal strap stuff with holes in it that comes in a roll) and a few wood screws. I drove it all summer like that with no issues. Later I sold the car to a neighbor kid and he wrecked it bad. It was still sitting in his backyard when I went in the military (not my idea, suggested by the judge - long story) I didn’t think much about it at the time but man, I’d love to have a decent 67 Chevelle now, that was 1978.
Lol... only seen the thumbnail but just wanna say I LOVE YOUR HUMOR!
Has 76.3 miles to back up. Drives into the tree line for 76.4.

Holy cow that defroster is great! Is that the fac-tree unit?
I got my first vehicle in 1999. It was a 1973 F100. So watching you work on and drive this truck brings back a sense of nostalgia. Pretty sure after buying my house, my next goal is old crappy truck.
My best friend had a truck just like that when we were in high school in the late 80s. Had the 6 cylinder , same paint color/rust. This video brought back some memories of working on that truck. We built a hopped up 350 and put in it. It was a bad truck! I enjoy the videos !
Totally love your perspective on everything, makes me laugh till my stomach hurts… Keep up the good work!
Thank you

I like the side pipes idea, but I would go with a 283, 307 or 327, but hey, small block 400 would be cool too. But , not that I havnt driven one of my cars or trucks with a string on the wipers, wipers and a heater do make driving them a lot nicer, as do functional brakes! Love your videos! My boys and I have brought lots of cars back from the dead, i love it!
I've had several old 60s Chevies, a 62, 64, 65, and a 66. I only 'fixed up' the 64 with a friends' help. It started out like yours, with bad valve seals and a bed with NO wood floor left. I swapped out the fleetside for an 8' stepside and installed an un-rebuilt 327 from a 68 Impala- which promptly shredded the little 3spd so I obtained a 'rock-crusher' 4spd and that fixed it. I could pull a house off its' foundation if I had enough weight in the bed. I miss it.
