    Enjoy over 2.5 hrs of ASMR truck building. This 1966 C10 was frame swapped onto a 2001 tahoe frame using an EZ chassis swap kit. The full build took about 6 months and a total of close to $20,000 to complete.
    If you want more detail on anything in this video see the full 20 part narrated series here at this playlist.

      I hope he paints it up real nice and shines but I fear he’s going to leave it sort of junky looking with a mix of blue and rust.

    • @FLManGarage
      @FLManGarage  15 дней назад +1

      I prefer the mix of blue and rust with the original paint. In my opinion when it gets painted, it ends up looking like every other restored truck and loses its originality.

    Just the fact that you're taking everything apart and putting it back together is already an improvement on what has been done from the factory

      It definitely has its flaws! But its still running strong after 400k miles which is quite astonishing!

      @FLManGarage  23 дня назад +6

      For the engine, I replaced all the gaskets, timing chain, oil pump, water pump, alternator, all the pulleys, belts, spark plugs, plug wires, oil pick up o ring. But i didnt do anything to the internal of the engine as i plan on building a 6.0 for it in the future

    This is a great project!! I just found your channel, and I subbed!! This swap is most interesting! A great way to upgrade and save an old Chevy classic! I'm a 76 yr old V/N combat vet. After surviving in airborne infantry (101), ad a paratrooper. I bought a '58 Plymouth Fury with a blown 318. I bought a '58 Imperial with a 392 hemi. I swapped it into the Fury, ( after a refresh, big cam, etc, man did I have fun with it!!! I had a old classmate who was a hemisphere guru drag racer, he and I built the hemi. He knew lots of hot tricks to make her run! But he also showed me all the necessary suspension and brake mods needed. I loved that hot rod. Shocked the shit out of lots of cords and chevys. I've owned all of the tri five chevs over the years, the were plenty ful and cheap during my youth. They'll always be my favorite cars.I watched D&D build your '56!! Its a great ride!! I'm watching you build a ,'66 chef pickup now. Great video!! Like your channel!!!

    I can fully appreciate the work you put into this pickup. I did classic auto restoration and custom cars for fourteen years. Awesome imagination and creativity working around several issues. I love this year and body style of chevy. I know that patina is really the thing now and I want you to know that what I’m about to say is about me and my quirks and has nothing to do with your skills and the quality of work you have done. I am 61 years old now and I started painting when lacquer was commonly used. Then the catalyzed enamel etc.. I went on to be a technical rep for Sikkens. I have tried to do rat rods and I have tried to do what you have done here but I COULDN’T. There is so much work that goes into it that I couldn’t leave it looking old on purpose. Even when it is the hot ticket. Even when everyone loves it. I simply cannot stop myself from going all the way with the bodywork and the flawless paint and making it look like new. Even if I was working on a car that I was going to sell and I could get more money by leaving the surface rust and patina… I can’t do it! It bothers me a little bit that I am like this and I think it’s a quirky OC thing, or an old man thing, but I have given up on it and have realized that when I work on a car it is going to get beautiful new paint. Anyway, enough ranting. Good work. It really is a cool old classic and it is obvious that you are passionate about what you do.👍

      I have always liked the patina look because every one is different. I feel like if this was done to a show quality, it would look like every other painted truck.
      This is the first stage for this truck, it may get bodywork and paint in the future, but right now i definitely do not have the skills or money for that, it would probably be at least another $20,000 in panels, metal work, body work and paint. Perhaps down the line, but i am content with the look for now
      Next on the list is AC/heat and radio!
      AC is very important down here in florida!
      Thanks again for your view and comment!!

      It definitely makes sense to NOT paint it for at least two reasons. First is the money it takes to do it and second is the fact that some people like the look of patina more than paint. Another cool thing with NOT painting it is that you don’t have to worry and stress over chips and scratches. Also, I live in Oregon. If I lived in Florida there is NO DOUBT that I would make A/C the first priority. Totally impressed by what you have done. The wiring on the chassis swap would have intimidated the hell out of me!

    • @FLManGarage
      @FLManGarage  16 дней назад

    Awesome job! I am also a fan of the no talking, and pace of the video. Some talking is fine, sometimes its easier and adds to it, but getting all of this into one video and not fluffing it with chatter is nice. I made a no talking walkaround video of my '58 mercury voyager wagon on my channel and thought it might be boring, and it probably is to some people, but I made it mostly for myself and I enjoy watching it and hearing the bugs in the background haha. Then stumbled across this and feel inspired to speed up my next walkaround or tinkering video. Good work!

    I would have been extremely tempted to check the rod and main bearings with 400K miles on the engine, but it may have opened a can of worms if you had, You seemed confident in the Taho and the work you did so I'm sure there was a reason you didn't keep digging.

    Love your build , looks like a fun driver. I did a similar one a couple years ago- a Tahoe under a 49 3100 , I left the floor and firewall, body mounts on the Tahoe as the 49 floor was rotted out. The wheel base was 3/4” longer than the 3100, not hardly noticeable, had to raise the bed floor up 2” to clear the fuel tank and shock mounts, brought the fuel filler out between the rear bed stake and the fender. Your details on your project is awesome- your truck your way👍!

    I've done plenty of motors, and done my motors too,it seems a little odd that he wouldn't do the head gaskets and pistons, and rings, especially with that many miles on it. As far as as somebody else on here said, that is a lot of work for one man. When me and my brother,did his old ranchero,66 by the way. We cut up a old Montego, it was somewhere in the seventies, don't remember exact date, we wanted the motor, because the motor in the car was a 351 Cleveland, With low MI we cut that car completely to the ground. And move the motor over to the ranchero, which turned out to be pretty bad a$$, but all the work that was involved was crazy,and I'll never do it again but kudos to this gentleman.very good job for doing it on your own. "congratulations" now that was a awesome job.

    • @FLManGarage
      @FLManGarage  12 дней назад +1

      The main reason I didn’t do more to this motor is that i plan on building a 6.0 with a 4l80e from the ground up, so i didnt want to spend the time and money to rebuild this one.
      It ran good in the Tahoe and runs good now, good oil pressure and doesn’t smoke, so i am curious to see how much longer it will last!

    I've had three of these old Chevy trucks.The first was dads old truck he had given to me for graduating high school. Dad had named the truck Sarge. It was a 68 Chevy long bed with around 400H.P. We built around 200ish small block Chevys throughout the years. It had a 4 speed Muncie rock crusher in the floor and those H.P. came from a DZ 302 Chevrolet.The 2nd was a 64 short bed step side with 275/60/15s, with a Eaton 3:90 posi and a super hard shifting 350 turbo automatic. The truck came factory with in dash air conditioning,(push/pull levers) factory 283 with a two speed powerglide. It had the big back window was baby blue with a white top and a chrome grill. Came with chrome front and rear bumpers, all original from the factory. My third old Chevy truck was a '66 short bed fleet side, with a stock 350 and stock 350 automatic but ran perfectly. I think you've done a heck of a job, I would trust that truck to California from Tennessee no problem, especially if you had it geared properly.
