Thanks, this fixed the code 11 for my Rinnai RUCS75, 7,5 years in service in a 3 person household, so not a ton of use, probably average. . Each of the three ignitor rods was covered with a sort of fine white powder, like dried milk.. I used 220 grit, about three minutes on each, put back in, and BAM, works great again. Reminded me why spark plugs in your car need either replacing or sanding down every 100k miles.
Just wanted to say thank you for this video. Absolute life saver…It was 1245am Easter Sunday morning when error code 11 popped up. I was so annoyed because these types of problems always occur on Sunday’s or Holidays. I was afraid that we’d have no hot water until Tuesday or pay an absorbent amounts of money getting a service tech out. The problem was exactly what you mentioned here, dirty ignition rods. I followed your instructions here which were very easy and simple. When I removed the rods they weren’t as dirty as the ones in the video and I was worried this wasn’t the issue. But sure enough, I sanded them off using 400 sand paper and placed them back, fired up the system and ran hot water with my fingers crosses and sure enough it worked! It took 45mins from the time I watched the video until I was receiving hot water at about 0130am. Thanks again for posting this.
A sign of a well engineered product is that it is easy to fix issues that arise from normal wear and prolonged use. Just 4 little screws to get to the rods and sand them ... well engineered.
I don't have the exact model - I have RL75.... I am a power plant mechanic and just by watching your simple video - I quickly navigated through my issue... it's nice how mechanics can help mechanics navigate systems they've never played with. I think even a simple white collar man who knows what a screw driver and sand cloth are - can fix this code 11. Good vid, simple, to the point, and will do the trick. Thanks.
This convinced me to fix mine myself. I had error code 11 on my v94i and used 80 grit sand paper on the rods and the burner fired right up. Saved me major cash. Cancelled the plumber that was supposed to come out the next day.
Thanks! This saved me an expensive visit from a plumber. I cleaned all three and popped them back in and voila the code and beeping was gone and I got hot water again. Saved me around $400
I spent $700 - for 2 times visit of plumber - he used to come and do some bull shit - it happened again after 2 years , now that I am working from home , searched and searched . Everyone talks about flushing mechanism - but this video made sense as soon as I saw it. Thanks you brother
I got the same Code 11 issue, on a Sunday morning, watched this video and went to get some sand paper grit 220, followed the instructions and so far is working fine , we have hot water again ... Thank you so much for posting this video it was very useful as I have the exact same model.
I can't thank you enough for making this video! Just as weather started to get cold this 11 code showed up and this fix worked perfectly! Much appreciated 🙏
You my friend just saved my butt lol, had code 11 and before that code 10 and gas smell from exhaust constantly, cleaned the burners found 3 clogged ones but still was getting no fire condition, used 100 grit sandpaper on all 3 ignitors and voila fires up no bad burning either anymore, a lot of furnaces I've worked once the ignitor goes it's gone these are different and definitely serviceable always worth a shot before replacing
Tanks" for the demo, haha! Water heater shopped working between daughter and wife showering!!!! I just cleaned and reinstalled flame rods and wife had hot shower half an hour later!!
The only caution i would give is the felt gasket can fall apart easily so id recommend having a replacement before trying thus if possible, if not cross your fingers and hope you have something to replace the felt gasket until you get a new one
THANK YOU!! This happened for the third time today and I fixed it thanks to your video! The first two times I paid the "experts" to come out and fix it for $350 and $600 respectively. UGH!!! This time I found your video and it worked. I fixed it for free!!! Now I need to order the ignitors but there are two different part numbers on Amazon. How would I find the right part? Is the part number listed in the owner's manual? Thank you again!
У меня также ошибка 11я на Rinnai 207 emf . консультанты в москве говорят что нужно проверить заземление . Теперь понятно что надо просто почистить катод . Однако видно , что как только где то потекла вода то сразу ржавеет все в rinnai .
So everyone knows a code 11 on this water heater can also mean that it is not getting gas, not venting and more. I just had a plumber flush mine and thought it was only igniters till I read more on google...check the gas line, and it was still shut off from the plumbers servicing it. Now I have clean ignition probes.

Thank you very much for posting this video. Warm water... whew!!
Awesome! Glad it helped.
They face in different directions so be sure to put them back in the same positions. I also believe these are flame sensors and not igniters.
This helped me for sure!! Thanks a lot man!!!!

Just a side note to take a photo before removing the ignition wire for reference when you put them back .😅

Thanks! I'm sure that would of been pricey.
Thank you my Man it works..
Excellent! Glad it worked on your unit as well.
What do you recommend to clean the rods besides sandpiper 2:43?
@@Ekid20 Well, I use sand papare to remove the build up. I wouldn’t use chemicals or any liquids since this is the part that produces the spark.
@@nonoamj thank you, your video was helpful and I now have hot water back on.
Do you have a vid on that decalcify maintenance that you did?
Unfortunately I don't. But I'll try to record one next time it's due.
The white bushing that holds the igniters fell apart on mine , what can I use to hold them in place??
I'm not too sure. It would definitely need to be fire resistant. Search online for your particular model.
Thanks bud! 100 % back online. Wife thinks I’m a Superhero 😅
Awesome! I'll let you take all the credit! 😉
