I really like the fact that you do much more than just reacting. You contribute your own knowledge to the topic and that adds actual value to the whole thing. Thats awesome.
This is easily my favourite visage video. That quote from the emperor always hits hard considering what her had already committed but also knowing what destruction the nuclear bombs actually caused.
odds of being hit by an extinction level asteroid in a 100 year life span is 1 in a million, but luckily the trajectories of our extinction asteroids for the next 100 years are safe, so the odds for us are 0. A city killer could kill us tomorrow though :(
With our luck we will get hit by a rogue damocloid that we couldn't detect thats 20km wide, after all this shit in the past 2 years i wouldn't doubt it.
For the suicide bomber and everyone else, it was a matter of patriotism, dying for the emperor was like the highest honour you could have, he was seen as a god, which is also one of the reason that some solider killed themselves after surrender, it’s like they let the emperor down
Pfft, not even building them yourself in your own McSweatshop. (but serious, with a bit of technical knowhow you can build a low yield nuke with small amounts of 2 different radioisotopes like Americium in a damn flashlight housing)
The reason why Japanese soldiers were so willing to kill themselves for the emperor is twofold: firstly, suicide is not nearly as taboo in Japan as it is in the west, in part due to the revival/glorification/propagandification of Bushido in the wake of the Meiji restoration. It was drilled into the head of every citizen that sacrifices had to be made for the glory of japan, and sometimes that sacrifice would include the ultimate one- but that doing so was good and honorable. “Dulce et decorum est pro patria Mori” taken to its natural conclusion. Secondly, you have to understand that the emperor was not only a political leader, but a religious leader. The Meiji restoration, while heavily westernizing the country, also claimed that the old idea of the imperial line being literally descended from gods was, in fact, true. The people of Japan (or at least, the majority of the Shinto population) believed the emperor was literally directly related to the god of the sun, and held some sway over their souls. Imagine if the pope, with the full support of the Vatican and the military of Italy, told Catholics to start suicide bombing Europe so it could be conquered and claimed for the holy land. Sure, a ton of people would rightly realize he’s crazy, but the die-hard Catholics who 100% believe he’s the voice of god wouldn’t hesitate. As to the resource reasoning; advanced tracking systems weren’t widespread in the 1940s; even if they had some radar, only a human pilot could know exactly where to hit for maximum damage, and make sure the payload hit the mark. If a regular bomber would be shot down before it could drop its payload properly, and more maneuverable fighters couldn’t do enough damage to the ships with its guns, then the only solution is a more maneuverable and highly accurate bomber- which a kamikaze pilot would theoretically be. If your only concern- and I mean ONLY concern- is getting one bomb to hit one ship in the right spot, then from a cold, trolley-problem-style, resource-management utilitarian view, the exchange of one life for an entire ship is worth it.
Yea the only country that I see today that would use the bomb is US as they used it on Japan even tho they didn't have too and they could have evacuated citizens there before that if they wanted to show force but didn't, also later they dropped a second one which was to show the Soviets they have more than one and they wanted to use them in Korea again but since the Soviets had them by that time they didn't so the country that was most irresponsible with their nukes and that shouldn't have them is the US the most dangerous, aggressive and powerful country in history.
I would take the two bombs than send 100K more soldiers to be killed by barbaric soldiers…. Do you not know what they did to the Chinese? Did you not know the military still didn’t want to surrender after the two bombs because they’re insane and thought it was their divine path to win the war.

I love how you pause to give your insight.
Great reaction!
Yes Indeed, he has a good balance between watching and reacting.

Vsauce is incredible! you should do more reactions to his videos.
More vsauce!
You say scientists are not evil just the application of their discoveries can be evil, so true. Good reaction.
3:00 so does that mean that humans can be nukes?
Sure, if you can figure out a way to rip their atoms apart.

Bombs are sexy. I love my recreational McNukes. Science is my life.

You’ve done very little research
And we built Japan to one of the richest economies in Asia….
