Hey, knife enthusiasts! It's Kyle Royer, and I'm excited to share the journey of creating this exceptional knife with you. In this video, I guide you through the intricate process of forging a Damascus blade. We delve into the details of the composite twist pattern, using 1084 and 15N20 steel strips, revealing the unique craftsmanship that went into it.
From the challenges of 24-karat gold inlay in the carbon fiber handle to setting my first diamond on the pommel nut, every moment of this creation is captured. You'll witness the meticulous work involved in achieving the perfect finish, from applying the 2K finish to the handle to the careful assembly of the components.
I share the ups and downs, including setbacks like having to redo the finish and overcoming hurdles during the gold plating process. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, but the end result is truly stunning.
And the grand reveal - a knife that combines a distinctive composite twist Damascus blade, a 24-karat gold-plated takedown tool, and a pommel with a black diamond. This piece showcases new techniques, like the ingrained carbon fiber on the handle sides, making it a one-of-a-kind addition to my collection.
This is a beautifully crafted knife that's a testament to patience, skill, and the love of the craft. Let's embark on this forging adventure together! 🔪✨

I don't think I have ever seen a better knife maker. What a beautiful piece of art (again). A true master of his craft. The videography is top notch as well.
I think we all agree
Agreed, there are other masters, but not one has matched the quality, detail and finish of Kyle's knives.
@@XBullitt16X well said and totally agree. Kyle has raised the bar extremely high.
I have to agree, this guy goes above and beyond to make these works of art. And all done in a garage at home, how cool is that. Also, it's great to see a family team together to make this awesome channel
Eh, in a sense I see this more as a machining marvel than smithing. He barely used a hammer in the process. The end products are beautiful but they're too perfect imo.
Josh drinking the coffee was brilliant. All of your family are hitting it for 6. (Aussie cricket reference)
Hitting it out of the ballpark for the seppos😁
I don't think 50mins have passed by so quickly when watching a build video.
As a non maker the balance between stages, detail and progress flower seamlessly.
Another Master piece from a Master maker.
The gold plated take down tool was one of those happy accidents that perhaps worked with the piece better than the original idea.
Thanks for sharing the journey
WOW! I thought the video was like 20~30mins long until I read your comment and realized it was over 50 mins long haha. 100% agree!
You're right. I thought it was a quick video. I didn't see the length until I saw your comment.
Another museum quality piece of art!! Way to go Kyle 😁👍🏽
This is the finest example of the cutler’s art that I have seen.
While the knife might not be affordable to most, there are plenty of people who will be delighted to pay the asking price and own this beautiful object.
yeah, sure there are.
@@jackanderson1123 Enough to keep him busy.
@@jackanderson1123 It's hella expensive, and not something you wanna daily use. But if you consider the manhours put into that to make it look that good, it's a fair price. The kind of thing you show off 😂
@@bastange8856 I make knives myself mate, and totally agree with you on the hours put into it. You never get the true worth of the knife. I'd agree to that knife being worth so much, if the value of the raw materials was close to the asking price.
Saying that, If he can sell it for his asking price, then well done to him then. Cracking knife any which way you look at it.
@@jackanderson1123 Knives that expensive are made on commission, not just because you can right? Unless you do it to make a point of some sorts (like winning a smithing tournament or somesuch).
Kyle, this was a remarkable video and I particularly loved the stone setting part and how you practiced to do the stone setting on a fake diamond first , you are a perfectionist and I absolutely love the way you don't rush things just to make it fairly acceptable , it needs to be perfect. Pablo Cimadevila is another RUclipsr I love to watch , watching how hard it is to make a stone properly fit inside a metal , it makes my respect jewelery makers even more.
I remember watching this build one episode at a time over several weeks. I would really like to see another mega project, perhaps another sword or maybe a halberd or some other medieval weapon. Keep the forge lit and have a very merry Christmas. 👋
i second this - the long episodic builds are so relaxing and cool at the same time
I can not begin to explain how much I appreciate this work.
I'm a "craftsman" of a sort. A repair craftsman. My passion and joy in the job, is working with what I have at hand.
I would have no idea where to start if someone said do everything cool. But, also make a knife.
Such an amazing piece!
Absolutely phenomenal work! Credit to you and the family… keep up the amazing craftsmanship 🎉🎉🎉
Kyle, your work is incredible. Your passion and pursuit of perfection in all of your projects is inspiring.
My RUclips was on autoplay and it caught my attention when you mentioned getting the yellow tent off from the coffee. I've tried everything lol. You just made my life a lot easier! Thank you.
The quality of your video's has become equally as impressive as your knives Kyle, you have really grown through the years and I can't wait to see what the future holds
Thanks for putting this build all in one video. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Kudos to whoever edited it, too.
his brother edits and video for him
and another note i would like to add.... i admire how you are willing to start completely over on anything that didnt come out "right". As oppose to being like "Well it ALMOST fits....maybe after i add a shim and some filler it will fit better"
lol no sir if it doesnt fit, in your mind the only option is to completely redue it so it fits how its meant to fit. That takes patience. especially once you consider the amount of hours it takes to do each step.
sorry for the long comments, im just very impressed (and in love i think) with this knife. im obviously a knife enthusiast as well with a very large collection and a very amateur beginner knife maker as well. and with all the knives ive seen and all the books and articles ive read on knife crafting, it really takes alot to impress me with a knife (not to sound arrogant, but once you seen them all theres seldom anything "new". so.....good job, good work, and good shit.
For $16,000 there is no almost fits. It better be beyond perfect.
You're a true master, Mr. Royer. Thank you for sharing so many of your techniques with the world. You are a blessing to all that inspire to become a bladesmith.
Usually this stuff doesn’t interest me but the craftsmanship is off the scale definitely watching more of these videos what a legend!
Lol the part at 15:00 with your brother going slow-mo and everything else is sped up.. Really cool. What a great episode, the edits, the voice over, the suttle music and sound effects. Nailed it 🤜🤛
Oh and of course the blade, but I already commented on that a little while ago though lol.
Never thought I'd watch the entire video...but I did and it was well worth it, amazing craftsmanship!
It is such a breath of fresh air to hear beautiful music like that playing in the background of your content. I instantly added it to my playlist! You may not realize it, but little things like that… As subtle as they seem, they have an impact on men, and they definitely plant a seed, Kyle. Keep doing what you’re doing And God will continue to bless you!
i dont know much about knives aside from being very handy tools and yet im confident in saying this guy is one of the greatest knife makers in history
Fantastic work, meticulously and skilfully done, wow! Great to see father and son working so well together.
Regards from Down Under.
I'm coming from a ancient blacksmith family, so i truly understand your work. It is amazing to see how you are becoming more and more skilled. Realy nice job. Most of all I love the fact that you are working with your family. God bless you and your family 👍
As always, Kyle Proves he is The GOAT of Knifemaking in the creatorspace.
This might be my favorite piece yet. Bravo Kyle 🎉
You blow me away every time! Awesome work, amazing skill and dedication!
This piece is absolutely flawless.
I really love the attention to detail in everything.
I would not own one of these though, not because i do not want a piece of such quality, but rather the anxiety and cautiousness it would give me, along with my minor OCD i wouldn't be able enough to own such art.
Props to you man the video is put together so good everything about it, the visuals, the transitions, the voice overs, and a beautiful knife in the end. Well done!
your videos are crazy satisfying to watch. i love watching someone who is dedicated, in love with their craft, and takes the time to try new things. you obsess about every little detail, and will take the time to fix the smallest of imperfections. your dedication defiantly shows in your work sir. absolutely insane!
Thank you
Love the longer videos, keep them coming 😊. Your work is amazing, it blows my mind.
I love this video and I think this is the best knife I've ever seen. Kyle you are a true Master. Keep up the excellent work.
I saw this knife on your website and am very thankful you did a video on it, masterful craftsmanship of a true work of art. You are an inspiration for amateur knifemakers!
That is amazing work very impressive… you are one hell of a knife smith great job.
Sir your eye for detail and perfection is just amazing
I love the look and the design of the knife, plus watching the entire process was fun to watch! 😊
Absolutely gorgeous. You are a true artist and your pieces are masterpieces. Idk about anyone else but I would probably sell my soul to own a knife made by you. I'm working on getting some tooling and whatnot to start blacksmithing as a hobby. I can only hope to be able to make pieces a 1/10 of a % as nice yours. It's awesome that your father is a journeyman now and is out in the shop working on a regular basis with you now. can't wait to see some more of his work as well. Merry Christmas to you and the family.
The man is a true artist! You can spend all the years learning a trade. But you need the nac inside you, to be that good. A real treat to watch.
Hi Kyle , that video was truly inspiring Thank You ! At 56 I am just starting my knife making journey and have just about finished equipping the forge - first blade isn’t far away !
Awesome, good luck in your journey! May I ask what state you are in?
You are the best man. Seriously. One could argue that you are the best bladesmith in the world. So passionate and meticulous yet so nice and humble. Keep up the very very very good work man. Watching you work is delightful. 👌
Beautiful work. Always a pleasure to see a craftsman produce a fine piece.
The look of the gold and the carbon fiber is awesome
As Always, Kyle has done it again, what a beauty! Live long and forge till You die, Your an incrdible craftsman! Hats off! I bow! Thanks for all Your ispiration. Greets from Austria!
Great idea on making the pattern. Beautiful knife. Congratulations on your success on that one, kyle.
geez, your creations are always top knotch. Keep up the awesome work and thank you for putting your videos up on RUclips for folks like me to watch. :)
Over all, very good work! Truly a beautiful and well made knife and all captured with great filming and editing!
Kyle - i love your videos - your voice and your attitude are soothing
i would love for you to do a short video about hardening versus tempering, what each does, if different kinds of steel need different temps and why, etc…
Stunning knife :O
Would be really cool if you could make a damacus pattern that contained letters or symbols, like maybe a knife where the pattern spelled Royer.
You might be interested in the work of Steve Schwarzer!
Kyle, once again you created an astonishing knife. I impatiently wait your videos. You are a complete craftsman : master bladesmith, jeweller, perfection addicted !! I really appreciate your "tolerance zero" for every detail ( & i know what it means to use microns metall pairings as i work in a small factory wich produces dental tungsten endmills/freses). I also admire paterns of your blades & moreover the shapes of facets. I'm sending a big hug to you, your dad, you brother, your whole family wishing you a Merry Christmas ! I hope to have enough time to implement on my ( purchased ) blank blades the knowledge you share...
Crazy mad respect to you for this AWESOME creation! It is beyond beautiful, it’s a true work of art, dare I say, 9th and / or 10th ‘Wonder of the World’! Would love to add this one to my humble collection! Keep these beauties coming! 👍🏼🙏💓👏
I really like simple but stylish designs. They look great.
Hey i love all your knives i myself am a hobbyist bladesmith and love watching all your videos and attention to matriculate detail
In his song "A Month of Sundays" Don Henley wrote, "Folks these days just don't do nothin, simply for the love of it." In his song "Sunset Grill" he wrote, "These days a man makes you somethin and you never see his face." I would say that Mr. Royer is an example of the exact opposite of these two lyrics. Thank you sir.
Kyle, I'm one of your 406K+ subscribers, and I know you're a fan of Forged in Fire, as am I, and... I really hope that the judges on the show know about your channel and watch as you work. I love the work you put into each of your blades, and I love that you show how you make them with all the steps it takes, as well as your sense of humor!
Hey thanks. Merry Christmas
I don’t post a lot, anywhere. But I just wanted to let you know I am very proud of you and glad that artists and craftsmen are alive and well in this beautiful country, keep up the good work.
Amazing work Kyle! thumbs up for dad putting together the tools
Excellence! Thank you for all the hard work you do!
Truly an inspiration!
God bless you, my friend!
You make me want to be more excellent in my work and life
thank you for your attention to detail and quiet spirit, while still challenging yourself to do the best, even when it is aggravating!
Man, you are a true artist!
Beautiful blade, and with this step by step vid, it should only add to the value of this one of a kind piece! Excellent work!
man, I wish we could see the hand-off to the client and their expression. The stuff that people can do is insane
this is one of the finest knives I've ever seen, excellent work.
Beautiful to watch this knife be created. Love that pattern.
Your imagination has no limits! Incredible talents by a Master!
The video is great and the work is masterful! I love the build-up, information given, and the end product of it all, quite a fantastic job!
Dude, you're cranking out some seriously sick art. Bravo. It unfortunately drowns out the excellent camera/voiceover/editing work. But I see it.
That 2k finish is a great product, I work in auto body and we use it alot for smaller projects. Its the same clear coat that we use for clearing cars, but in a spray can.
As usual perfekt Result, a Masterpeace.
I totaly Love your Work
Absolute work of art, bravo!
I follow your Chanel for a very long time and you are a mad scientist that creates top and absolute best knives that I don’t think anyone can duplicate as perfect as you do. I think you must be OCD because I am and I hate anything that is not perfectly in order, placed, built, arranged…. I simply love all your work😊
This turned out fantastic! I love the way the gold pops against the black
Hey thanks
Merry Christmas
Kyle...if there is anything higher than a master blade Smith.....you are it.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Awesome recap of the build. Nicely done 👍
This is another levels making a beautiful knife 👑 everything is perfect sir💪
Amazing work ❤ your work.
I learn so much watching your videos thank you 😊👍
What an amazing piece of functional art!
Kyle is one of the best knife makers in the United States with that said I don't know anyone who would spend $16,000 on a fighting knife. I wonder how many of his knives just sit there waiting to be sold?
Your work is nothing short of amazing.
This is gorgeous! Well done man.
Amazing Kyle the skill you have and every step of the process mate I know I don’t know you however you could be a teacher to anyone who wants to learn your craft
Your patience is something I can't really relate to. While I can do a lot of things around the house I can never be a true artist the way you are. You have a lot of skill, and I think one of your greatest skills is your ability to take it as slowly as needed to achieve perfection.
The way you can sand through the finish on the handle and still have a smile on your face knowing you are facing 9 more coats and another round of hand-sanding is yet another testament to your patience.
I love the production style and value on this video. great pacing and commentary
Nice Stargate reference- as always, the attention to detail is impressive. That knife is a work of art. A deadly work of art. Merry Christmas!!
This is freakin awesome. You nailed it bro. Love the edits, the way these videos are starting to come together. Well done to the whole family operation. Merry Christmas to you all and stay safe bud. One day im going to buy one of these works of art off you.
I thought I was a perfectionist lol, you definitely got me beat bud 😂. But that's a great way to be.
Finally a new style. I like it. All yr work is great but very similar. I love the new look of the blade. U should do more variety of blades. Yr the best!!
That Xcal wall makes me think of Stargate. I would love to see a Stargate themed knife. The knife is beautiful. I really like the design of the handle and gold inlay pattern.
The carbon fiber reminded me a lot of the grain patterns on the sides of leopard wood. Very nice.
Kyle, you are on another lever! I love this guy.
Holy crap Kyle!!!!!! What a masterpiece!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙌🏻
A sublime piece of art that is second to none...subbed.
I have loved your channel for years. Your work is pure art. One of the great things about your videos is that it's just you talking and the sounds of the work. If someone told you to add the music in the background you were poorly counseled. It takes away from the intimacy of the feeling we get of being in your shop with you. Having said that, I couldn't weld 2 nails together. Love your page regardless.
That has got to be the best knife ive ever seen in my life.
You spent a lot of time getting things just right and it shows. That ain't no Forged in Fire knife. Excellent workmanship.
The attention to detail and the willingness to fail but to never be complacent. You’re a true creator and craftsman who isn’t afraid to try something new regardless of the risk. Great video and beautiful work bud, thank you for the experience.
I love the relationship you have with your Dad!
A pleasure to watch ,brilliant piece of art
Journeyman Smith < Master Smith < Legendary Smith < Smith to the Gods < Kyle Royer
You are beyond a Master Blade smith Kyle, you are the Yoda of knife making! Knife making I do.
Wow what a piece of art , it was a fantastic knife , you did an incredible job .
Hey thanks.
Merry Christmas
Jeezus every knife you make is just absolutley astonishing
What an amazing knife and some killer work I would love to put that in my collection
Vous êtes un Maître ! La qualité de votre travail est tout bonnement hallucinante !
Wow🤯 Amazing work! I could never make something like this but I sure did enjoy watching you make it😏
