- How to clean, fix and extend the life of a Transfer Belt in a color laser printer.
The transfer belt is a rotating belt which carries the mixture of different colors of toner particles.
The transfer belt pass in front of the 4 toner cartridges cyan, magenta, yellow and black.
The cartridges apply each toner layer to the belt, which will then apply the combined layers uniformly onto the paper.
(Transferband, cinghia di trasferimento, courroie de transfert, correa de transferencia intermedia, Unidade da tela de transferência, overdracht riem).

This was an amazing video. Thanks! I+m having the message in my HP Colar Laser MFP 178mw printer "replace new transfer belt". The manual says when shown this message: "the life of the transfer belt has expired". Does this mean I MUST replace the belt or can I still clean it and have it working again? I need to make sure I can do that before investing in new toner. Thanks
The cleaning does not cancel the error message. There should be a chip, or a fuse

I hope you can help me. I have a HP 2605dn printer and I love it. After 5 years it has finally run out of toner so I bought some from InkOwl and filled it myself. Now the colors are more faded with full cartridges than they were when they were empty. And there are splotches and streaks of color all over the transfer belt and toner on the cartridge rollers. I have manually cleaned them many times and also ran the cleaning setting. Nothing works. Did I overfill them? This simple printer has never given me any trouble. I'd hate to have to buy another one.
how do you filled them? did you remove the waste toner, at least clean the drum, the charge roller and the doctor blade?
It's better to change the drum anytime you refill your cartridge. Try to change the drum, I bet it will solve the problem
Hi! Great Video! The Transfer Belt for my *OKI* *c5150n* Color Laser Printer keeps showing up online as a Discontinued Product. The Printer Parts Companies that still have them in stock, want over 250.00 bones for them. Can I buy a separate "lone standing" Ribbon Roll of Transfer Film and re-splice it onto my old transfer belt? I've already "taped" my old ripped and torn transfer belt ribbon with Scotch Tape and it's holding, but yes, there's streaks from the pieced tape on my printouts. Any thoughts?
Yes you can, It seems the problem is only the belt and the other components (wiper blade and so on) are ok
Thanks for the video, I have brother colour laser printer L3710, it’s printing colour letters/images with shadows (ghost printing) , i cleaned the drums and seems to be okay , fuser 75% life remaining.
Should i clean the roller attached to the fuser or the tray belt or what to do , thanks a lot for your help.

@@viandant5 thank you i changed all the toner cartridges to ( original ) and after calibration working good. So the problem was a defective cartridges ( old) , or only i can install original. Thank you once again and appreciate it.

Good video! I have a question. My printer Brother L3750 can’t perform toner registration. There is an error message on the end of procedure: “Registration Failed”. Color printouts look bad. Each color seems to be misaligned to another (0-1,5 mm). On Brother webpage I’ve find info that it may require changing of belt unit. Any advice?
It depends more often from the drum units. But you need toner registration? do you have quality problems or other error messages?

Try to remove and reinstall all consumables, it could be a defective contact. Check the door of the printer, the switcj could be defective

are you sure the problem is the belt? it may be a defective toner cartridge too
hello, the cartridges have changed several times, the printer is used in a school and you always have to reload 2 times and then new cartridges, the lines now come in different luagres but always vertically. At first left to the left side of the sheet, then to the middle and left, varies position.
Hi - precisely at 1:06 the horizontal lines that appear, is that from fusing kit or something else? I watched all your videos but couldn't figure exactly how to fix that issue. Thanks for your hard work!
It depends on the distance between defects
@@viandant5 my printout has the same distance as in the frame at 1:06 and if it only appears when the printer is fired after sitting idle for 20+ minutes on first couple of pages but not the subsequent pages. For e.g., in 10 page printout, only the first two have the roller marks on the left side but the other 8 pages don't.

@@viandant5 very sad and need help. I bought a new fuser unit, new waste toner bin and used transfer belt but I still have the same problem. Any other thoughts?
It only happens when few pages are printed and system goes in standby for sometime, say 30 mins, and on next print job there are few pages with roller marks on the back side like at 1:06 portion of your video. If the job is long and more than 3 pages are printed continuously then there are no roller marks on remainder of the page.

Great Video! My brother HL-4070CW duplex printer prints random,light toner patterns only on the backs of pages. Could this be the belt? Front of pages is perfect.
Ye it could be the belt but it could also be the second scanner unit, or a dirty paper path or rubber rollers

@viandant5 Thanks for the video! always very helpful, One question, my brother hll9310cdw is trowing too much toner on the belt, I just clean it and the 4 colours were there in big spots, I just clean the drum cilinders also, they were mess uo too, and just noticed that the edge of the pager got some discoloration on it.. I got no spots or holes on the belt is good, is like the magnet or whatever it is that attract the toner is not working, what can i do?
are you sure the environment is not too humid? I think it's a toner cartridge problem
the belt is charged with a charge roller, in this way it attracts the toner powder

Question: my belt is different from the one you are cleaning, should I proceed to clean it like you are showing in this video? I just clean the printer inside out all the little metals and the belt and cylinders from the drum with half and half alcohol and water, so I just send to print a test and came out with 2 blue lines , 1 black and 1 red.. I don't know what i did wrong..
@@lilianalopez9474 YE syou could clean the belt as show in the video. The colored lines are often due to bad contacts or little defects on the belt that without the protective layer discharge on the belt

Hello you've told that there are no reliable ways to restore the scratched drum of a laser printer, but I need to ask you is there any way to restore/fix drum though it may not be reliable?
There are coatings but it's easier and cheaper to buy a new one

may be a foreign object has damaged the belt, check inside the printer, it's difficult to say

Great videos. Apreciate your help. Recently I have change the fuser roler of Brother Hl3150.The same as the video. Evreything was good But few days later the black color started to print some mm up, i did registration and failed. I change cartridge and failed. then, i change belt unit from secon hand and fail. I clean drums. I do everythig, and still do not know where can a fix the problem. Any guess?? thanks a lot. Aaaa, i change the black with the blue color, and the problem occur in blue color 😆😆
It could be a deformation of the frame of the drum unit, or a defect on the gear of the drum unit or printer. probably a cleaning is not enought to solve the problem.

Difficult to say, it could be caused by many problems. It could be toner too old, drum, transfer belt unit, transfer roller, magnetic roller...
Not useble for HP4700n.
Does the brother printer's BU 220CL belt unit have this waste compartment attached to it? the same as in the video?
YEs it has waste toner but it's not the same
Hi can you help me? With new or old toners I aways get horizontal black lines. On first page in the middle. On second page on top and almost on 2/3 of the page another line.
Checked the drum and didnt notice any damage. It is a samsung clp 325.
On the page where appear 2 horizontal lines the distance between them is 190 milimeters. Thanks a lot

I just cleaned my belt, and find that it's pulling to one side. Is there a way of getting it back in alignment?
it's difficult to say without knowing which is the printer. Is the belt broken or defective? if not, remove and reinstet it

Hi. I have an hp colorlaserjet printer mfp m182n. I have refilled all of the 4 cartridges. The printing quality is fine. But there is one problem with the magenta cartridge that few lines of very minimum width appears on its own drum after certain prints.though lines does not come over paper, they only appear on magenta cartridge drum. But after about 100 pages printed successively these lines come over paper.
Would you please tell why this happens? And its solution if it is a problem.
May be a dirty wiper blade, or the developer roller blade too close to the roller

@@viandant5 actually the problem is that when I print about 80pages in line, sometimes, the magenta line develops on 50th page and onwards. The line is very very thin. Then when I inspect the drum I see a line on it, then I clean it and rotate it and clean the entire line. After cleaning when I rotate by hand no line appears on drum. Then when I again prints 80 pages in line, magenta line develops on 50th page and onwards

Does black images have problens? It could be something related to a color cartridge. Did you check the printer settings?

Black it doesnt have any problem or any written thing just on images...yellow goes 1mm to the right side and blue goes down 1mm... dont know what to do in settings

I think is a toner cartridge problem. did you try to change cartridge? check the connection between printer and cartridge. a defective laser scanner should give an errro message
@@viandant5 What if the printer doesn't have beam detect sensor? Could be bad transfer or transfer high voltage. Clean the magenta transfer components.
Hi! Im wondering if my issue is from the transfer belt. It prints some of the papper, but some zones appears white. As a jump every rottating pappers is going. it happens in all the pappers, but not in the same posittion.Sorry about my english
It depends on which printer do you have and which is the distance between defects

Im pretty sure is the transfer belt . The blanc zones are blanc... as if the tonner didnt touch the papper. Im waiting a replace for it.

The fact is that seems that not tonners dust is impregnating the zones of the paper at some regular spaces

@@rstjohnw Great to know this but 91% proof alcohol sure went "vapor" in our stores during the Covid19 Era. Was thinking about adding a hint/smidgeon of acetone to my 99cent store 50% proof alcohol which is still available everywhere. @@viandant5 Let me take the opportunity to ask: From your experience with the CM1415, do you know what can cause a very faint print in all 4 toners? I already disassembled it, cleaned transfer belt and inside housing with no result - some people say the HV power supply may have problems, but I wonder if there is any other cause for the faint print (this is a very low usage printer). It depend on which printer do you have. could be not related to the belt but a toner problem

E' un errore di hardware, un motore non gira correttamente ma potrebbe anche essere causato da una cartuccia toner difettosa che non fa girare il motore o anche dalla cinghia di trasferimento che non fa girare il motore di movimento. Controlla se la cinghia gira manualmente, prova a togliere e rimettere tutti i consumabili

Yes, they are replaceable but spare parts are not alqays available

my toenails are rolling up
do not use any kind of liquid, not even alcohol, to clean the belt. use a microfiber cloth. even alcohol will leave streak lines, and it's supposed to be residue free. it isn't.
Thank you for sharing this thought, I cringed at the alcohol solution. I wrecked an older HP LaserJet 4 without the appropriate info. I would say if you want to do any maintenance, first step is reading the manual. Reading that will say what you can do. I bought my Brother colour LED printer from a business equipment dealer and if I ever need it to be cleaned, I will trust the techs there.
