Thanks for the video. Most people can stop when they get the toner tray out. Once I got that out of the way, I was able to clean everything without any further disassembly. You can wipe off the transfer belt, then let the printer cycle the belt, and then clean the next section. To remove the toner tray, pull it all the way to the front, then pull the left side toward the right like he show you at the 50 second mark. It takes quite a bit of pressure on that left side before it lets go. Pull the tray forward with your right hand while putting that pressure on the left side. I cleaned my with alcohol. Seems to be working now.
Thanks for the tip. I just acquired this printer and seem to have this issue. May I ask how you got the printer to cycle the belt? Thanks for your help.
@@jschlesinger2You are welcome. Just close the toner door with the power on. You don't have to put the toner tray in. It will cycle as soon as you close the door.
@@Matthewjones428 Thanks! That makes sense...and is so much easier than removing the entire intermediate transfer belt. I'm pretty sure that leaky valuetoner cartridges -- inherited with the (free) machine -- are the root of my problem. Now the trick is finding an affordable cartridge that doesn't leak. Any tips?
@@jschlesinger2 No, I have been buying on Amazon, but I've had some trouble with them. Compared to the cost of brand-name toner, I think I'm willing to put up with occasional mishaps. I do plan to stop using toner at the first sign of streaks in the future. I waited too long and had a big mess!
Thanks! I fixed my printer following your instructions (it was leaving steaks on the printouts). Let me try to give back with a few notes: - I suggest to wear gloves, so you don't leave grease on delicate components - toner can be nasty, better wear a mask - as reported in a comment, to open the side panel you have to remove a screw in the back of the printer, then unlatch the bottom (be delicate or you might break the plastic panel) - it is not shown, but when you operate on the side, it is easier to reach the white plastic piece if you remove a little black plastic part under the fan cover (not the fan cover). It is simply held in place by two latches - there are only two types of screws and they are clearly different, so it's easy to understand which to use when you rebuild the printer
So I opened front panel and removed the toner tray like up to the 1:10 mark. Then with a cloth with alcohol I proceeded to clean the transfer belt through the front opening. You can press the tab that senses the front door closed with a thin object and the transfer belt will begin moving. So much easier that disassembling. You may be able to reach without removing the tray.
I did it this way as well....but couldn't figure out "the tab that senses the front door is closed..." Can you explain which of the many things that is? Thank you! I just closed the whole front door (about 10 times)
@douglastaylor999 If you look at minute 13:29, there is a little rectangle hole right under a circle hole on the front left side of the printer. There's a little tab in there. You can press with a pencil or screwdriver. It takes a few seconds, then the belt will start turning.
@@rauldiaz69 Interesting - believe it or not my MFP M281fdw doesn't have the circle hole...but does have the rectangle hole, and that did work....many thanks!
Thanks for the help, I cleaned my MPF M277dw exact the same steps! I found out that I have to replace my transfer belt that had a tiny, displaced pattern on it. But now I know how to replace it! 👍
Thank you, couldn't have done it without your (unfortunately very quiet) video. But it didn't help, the reason for bad printing quality was the non-original toner. When I switched to original HP toner everything was ok. So try this first, it might save you a sunday ;-)
Hi, it's Mr. Darius from the DR.Cong, Thank you very much for your, we computer technicians we are grateful to you for the hard work that you put in to resolve our problems with the various printer breakdowns, My question is, how to replace the transfert belt on the hp laser jet pro mfp m181fw printer
Thanks for the video dear, I cleaned everything with a dry cloth, now it prints very faint even though I bought toner new originals, have I done something wrong? Please, your answer would help me a lot.
Always place the cartridges in a light-tight box or bag because the photosensitive material on the toner drums breaks down under UV light. Also, do not touch the drums with you skin; this upsets the electrostatic coating. (This information comes from a person who worked for a big name printer manufacturer.)
good video could you show what it was doing before and after cleaning. I have the same model except mine has a repeating transfer smudge that looks like finger prints repeat every 5.6 mm like roller
I have the same printer, but my printouts are always misaligned and tilt to the right side. I wonder if there is anything I can do because there is no software alignment fix. Paper tray is also well aligned. What could be the problem?
What is the purpose of this cleaning? What kind of defects would it fix? I have a few regular white dots on my color prints. They do not depend on color, so, I guess, the toners are OK and the problem might be somewhere else.
I suffered a lot from this problem and it was not solved. I had to take it to the maintenance center and a part was replaced that might be the printer’s lens. I don’t know exactly, and the problem was solved. Now, after a full year, the problem of fading colors has returned, despite the installation of new original cartridges.@@katelynevans1298

This was fantastic but how did you get the side panel removed at 3:11?
ruclips.net/video/5qPzlF_IJoY/видео.html
That’s what gets me is how these videos mysteriously don’t show you the worst part
There is one screw in the back that needs to be removed. Then carefully release the two bottom clips.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I was looking for! You saved my day! 👍

what type cleaner is used on the cloth?

Good job from you sir why do you clean transfer belt
Excuse my but how did you take the toner tray out. Is there a button you pressed for this or something. I got lost right after that
Pull the tray out as far as you can, then pull the left side to the right while pulling out. It's kind of tricky.
Thanks!!! It worked!

Is the transfer belt light sensitive?
What did you use to wipe the belt with? Regular paper towel? Was it soaked with a solution or alcohol?
