1 onion
1 bell pepper
1 T. minced garlic
1 t. Salt
1 t. Pepper
1 t. cumin
1 quart plus 1 cup water
2 Ham hocks
manual pressure cook, high,
40 minutes, natural release
small batch cornbread
1/4 cup plus 1 T. cornmeal
1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/4 t. baking powder
1/4 t. Salt
1 T. sugar opt.
3 T. melted butter divided
1 egg
1/4 cup milk or buttermilk
400 degrees, 20 minutes

My wife's mother never got around to teaching her to go cook... Thank goodness I watched my Mom while was going up.. Haven't had a mess of beans in years. I think at 73 yrs I'm just going to cook up a mess for myself.... Wife wasn't raised with beans so she hasn't a taste for them.... Have a preasure cooker. And after watching this, I see a good dinner about to happen. Thanks... Your videos are great.

I hear ya. I had cancer surgery (3) and watched Miss Lori cook and it really did help with the healing. I truly do believe that. All better now so I'm back in front of the stove cooking her recipes. You take care. God bless.

I make it a habit to make a pot of beans weekly. Love cumin and black beans in particular. Mr. Brown doesn't need any sugar in the cornbread when he has such a sweet lady like Miss Lori.

It’s been rainy here in Houston all day. I put on a pot of 9 bean soup and cut up some link sausage in it. I let it cook for several hours on low on top of my stove. Fixing to make some Hot water corn bread. Great minds think a like. Of course I could eat any dried beans and cornbread several times a week. Grew up on them. God bless y’all.🥰✝️🌸🌼🦋

Goodness! Those beans look so good. Cant have beans without cornbread. I take day old cornbread crumble it up in a glass and pour buttermilk over the top. My grandpa would do the same with Fritos..put them in a glass and add buttermilk. That's good eatin'! Have a wonderful week😊

Bean soup and cornbread is our favorite meal. I always save the ham bones with some ham still on them from the holidays and make bean soup. I make enough, lol, to feed my hubbie and me for two to three days. Can't go wrong with a pot of good soup❣

One of my all time favorites! Making it about like me. I like cornbread or home made bread with mine and a pan of fried potatoes. Yum! Also cook mine in a crockpot. Leave it cook on low all day.

These look and sound good. Once in a while I'll do a "pork-n-beans using country style bone in or chops. Maybe left over shoulder roast. Onion, cumin, jalapeno peppers, lots of black pepper. Red pepper. Seldom the same. It is great with small sausages, rope sausage. 😁 it all works. Pinto beans work well for this.

I love this simple recipe for "cornbread-for-two" as it basically calls for 1/4 cup each of cornmeal, flour, buttermilk, plus 1 egg and 1/4 t. each of bp and salt; me, I add a pinch of soda . Simple recipes are so much easier to remember without consulting the big fat cookbook as long as you never forget the melted butter, and yes indeed, cast iron skillets never let you down! happy imogi
Add a sm can cream corn.

Hi Miss Lori. ....what a great meal. Beans and corn bread. Smoked ham hocks is so good. Every autum I buy a bunch of smoked ham hocks as I have these types of meals throughout the cold winter. So nice to just go to the freezer and take a smoked ham hock or a package of smocked ham ends and make a great meal like this. Thank you.
I like to add 1 cup chicken broth to my white beans alone with the pork of what ever kind. Love watching you.

My husband and I cook this meal every year after I cook a ham with bones for New Years...We serve it over boiled white potatoes...Comfort food at its best!

I grew up with your cooking I love beans cornbread
We make our beans just like you in the instant pot but I add celery instead of pepper. With the food shortage last year I keep a couple pounds of ham in the freezer, wrapped separately,. I actually get it in the deli and ask them to slice it thick. That way its easy to dice for the beans..I also chop up about three slices of bacon too. If I want split pea soup I do it the same way but add carrots.. Keeping beans and ham on hand like that is good thing. A big pot of beans can feed us a few days if food is in short supply or you need to stretch it. Or you can freeze up half of it for a meal another night without a lot oil f cooking! PS cooking your beans in the instant pot cuts down on the gas toots!!! Hahaha!

I cooked a pot of red beans yesterday!
I added ham, sausage, onions, garlic, green onions & bell peppers. And Tony's seasoning.
I like to puree my onions and freeze it in ice cube trays. Then store the cubes in ziploc bags.
