Fk8 type r's are so slow stock, the focus rs / golf r are much better cars. My 300zx tt stock would kill this car, let alone now that i have weight reduction and bpu upgrades.
I've seen a couple of these line up, they always get smoked, have yet to see one win. They're only impressive handling wise.
From a dig, I agree the FK8 Type-R is quite slow compared to the Golf R and Focus RS. This is mainly due to FWD vs AWD. But from a 50 roll, it is not bad. I've seen a comparison of these 3 cars on carwow or another channel. I will find it out and link the video here.
Vince Garage my friend owns a 2017 civic type r, they are amazing cars. It handles as well as his Lotus Elise S/C. As far as acceleration, that isn't the fk8s strong point and Honda didnt intend for this to be a drag car, but 'slow' is definitely not a word that belongs in the same sentance as fk8 civic type r.
I own a bone stock VR4 may 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4, my friend and i did some friendly runs with his fk8.
From a dig the ctr is about 2 cars behind at 140mph shut down, from a roll hes a car to half a car behind depending on the speed (i brake boost). We went to the 1/4 mile track:
*2017 FK8 Civic Type R stock* 13.82@103mph
*1996 3000GT VR4 stock*
13.31@105mph
Both times are on point as far as magazine reviews, etc. He's a much better driver than i am. Since when is high 13s slow? The fk8 makes most of it's power top end. If i didnt brake boost, he may have hung with my VR4 from a roll, and the VR4 has twin turbos, a 3.0L V6, and 320hp and 315lb.tq@2500rpm (which is generally considered underrated, 1994 and up VR4s probably have more like 335 to 340hp at the crank)....pretty impressive that the Honda kept up so well.
Around corners, my VR4 sees only tailights, and they fade fast - i can't catch that fk8 in the corners for shit. It sticks better than my car despite the AWD advantage the VR4 has.
Bottom line: the fk8 civic type r is a *track monster* and not a drag car, and does pretty damn well in a straight line for what it is. They are not slow cars.

Vince Garage i just wouldn't call the fk8 slow, I've driven my friends extensively, but everyone's idea of fast is different. Anything in the 13s is fast to me.
I've driven the Focus RS, and it does feel much faster than the fk8, but i would say the fk8 handles better. Haven't had much seat time in the Golf R, but i did line up against one in my VR4, and we were neck and neck until we shut down at 120mph, so it's also obvioisly faster in a straight line than the fk8, as my VR4 pulled pretty hard on my friend's fk8.
The fk8 isn't meant to be drag raced. Idk, maybe im a bit biased, but even though its slower than the Golf R and Focus RS in a straight line, it handles like nothing else on the road.
secon-alled out No worries, I get your point. Let's just rephrase a little bit: "The FK8 Type-R is slower in straight line acceleration compared to its rivals (Golf R, Focus RS)". I believe we all agree on this statement :)
