Oro: Best Co-host ever! His antics, humor, and Sonny's response to them: priceless. Oro means Gold in Spanish. He definitely is worth his weight Gold! Keep up the great work Sonny! I anxiously wait every video you release!!
Sir, those are NOT tamales. Those are PASTELES. Tamales are steamed in corn husks, while pasteles are boiled in banana leaves. Just wanted to clarify for anyone that thinks Puerto Ricans eat tamales because we don’t, they’re pasteles. 🥰
Puerto Rican food is so bomb. I grew up with it in nyc and have been hooked forever. I finally visited on vacation in November and had the best mofongo I’ve ever had in San Juan at this spot called Muelle 13. It’s on the same block as Raices where all the tourists go. Sooo good! Omg I almost forgot, the Pina coladas were 🔥🔥🔥
Next time go to "Mojitos" and try other ways of eating rice and other kind of beans. Try the thin steak with sauteé onion, rice with white small beans. By the way, our food is not tacos. That's mexican. And each hispanic is not the same thing.
The tourism board should use this video for its visit P.R. campaign as I’ve never really been interested in going there but after watching not only did I get really hungry but now I want to go to Puerto Rico
I swear no one works harder on RUclips than this dude, between this and his second channel it’s like an insanely well produced video a week, I can’t imagine how long it takes
The video from yesterday was a $40,000 per person cruise. What part of that represented hard work by Sonny? All he does is eat. Dude hasn't worked a day since Minnesota.
I do follow you to different countries, I'm glad you was able to visit my island this time. I would like to highlight that in Puerto Rico we don't call it "Tamales", instead we call it "PASTELES". Pastel means "Cake", meaning a cake made out of green plantains. Tamales are made in Mexico and Cuba with corn flour instead. They are both very similar, Tamales are wrapped with a corn leaf and Pasteles are wrapped with a banana leaf. Tamales are steamed upright , while Pasteles are cooked boiled in the water. The other highlights are the "PASTELILLOS", which are also called "EMPANADILLAS" in different parts of the island. You were right when you said that it was like an "EMPANADA". The name empanadilla means a small empanada. We use both names around the island and the funny thing is people fight (in a funny way) which one is the correct name since we grew up with one of those names. My dad was from Spain and my mother from Puerto RIco, knowing both cultures, personally I think "Empanadillas" are the most accurate one because the root of the word is "Empanada" which in Spain means "stuffed pie". "Empanadas" in Puerto Rico are like the "Pasteles" that you ate but made out casaba and cooked in the oven. The word "Pastelillo" comes from the word "Pastel" that in Spain and Mexico means "Cake", like a birthday cake. Also, in the island we have a conflict with the word "Pastellillo" because on a bakery they will referring for a desert that make kind looks like a croissant with guava. So in conclusion, we accept both names, but be aware that depending where you go, you may find both names for the same thing or may get some thing different. Ask if you have any doubt, we like to help, we don't mind at all to answer any questions. For those that want to try the Empanadillas in the USA, in the supermarket frozen Goya brand section, they sell the dough discs where you can take it home and stuff it with whatever you like, from just plain American cheese to your preferred meat or seafood, just fold it in a moon shape, use a fork to seal the edges and deep fry, a quick snack meal. Don't buy the Goya already made frozen ones, those are not that great, make better your own. I do like to add pepperoni, pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese, those is awesome for the American taste and super easy to make. Note Tips: As any country, as you get out of the tourist area, the better the people and the food quality. If you enjoyed the east side, imagine the west side, that is even better waters. North the island is windy, the Atlantic Ocean is great for surfing, high altitude rocky shores, nice sceneries like in the Pirates Of the Caribbean. The South of the island is the Caribbean sea, it has calm waters, calm winds, slow water tide, so it is hotter and have extended beaches, better for boat cruise, sun tan, jet ski and fishing. East and West kind is a mixture of both depending how close you are to one of the waters, the best sea food. The center is high mountains, cooler, a lot of vegetation, fruits, zip line, horse rides, four tracks, the best pork meat food. We are all friendly, mostly speaks English and Spanish, we treat you as we know you for long time and like to talk a lot (LOL). As away from the capital you be, the friendlier the people are and the best quality living you get. The old San Juan is pretty, very guard by the police, but if you around in the whole capital, like any other country, you may end in a not that good area. As the center/west you get, away from San Juan, less worry you will be and better it is all in general.
@@normagonzalez7470 No of course, there seems to be many different and delicious things to try there. But, what I meant was that in case Iguana and Caiman become staple foods, I wouldn't say no to go there to try it out.

1:00:55 I found trifongo tastier than mofongo. Soooooooooo good - seafood cocktail - more like a cerviche than the name would suggest - mine had octopus, conch and shrimp, sooooooo good.
By the way, the mofongo was a side complement at the beguining, not stuffed. Was usually use to complement our savory asopaos (Gumbo kind of soup) and the size was small. The mofongo had in the original recipe, pork rinds and garlic, all smash and made in a ball shape.

I an second generation born an American Puertorican , Bronx NYC. My grand parents, from my mother and father are from Puerto Rico. Hence as I watch this pod cast and the showing of my heritage. My eyes teared up. I feel so proud, yet so sad, as if something was stolen from my soul because I was born and raised in the United States. As a Puerto Rican (though born and raised in Connecticut and Florida (by Puerto Rican born and raised parents)) this video made me SO happy! Our food is delicious!
The pig farm part reminds my so much of Morón Cuba. The neighbor's had a operation where they smoked pigs in a shed. The whole nine yards. Outdoor kitchen, just overall amazing. They were Russian (I think). Amazing host's. They invited me down and over to their casa and gave me a huge plate of pork shavings, crispy frites, and the best gravy I've ever had. Also, amazing company and a lot of laughs with the retired police chief and the whole family. :) It was one of the best times I've had.
One small thing to add, Pasteles are not cooked the same as Tamales. Tamales are steamed upright , while Pasteles are cooked boiled in the water.
