- From suffering through a whole semester with a bad professor, getting drenched in the rain because you didn't bring an umbrella, to setting off the smoke alarm and forcing your whole dorm to evacuate at 2am cause you tried to melt chocolate in the microwave, I've laid out all the embarrassing mistakes I made my freshman year of college, so you don't have to make them.
Even as an 8th grader, I can confirm that checking your grades online is the most crucial thing to do
SAMEEEEE
Throughout all of middle school (and some of elementary school) I checked my grades online through Power School
As 8th grader I confirm that

There are SOME 3 hour classes that are gems! It’s all down to the professor you have.
I had a 3 hour Ancient Roman Law class on Fridays; sounds like absolute hell, but the professor was so nice and thoughtful! He only had ONE assignment for the whole course you could submit whenever (and that was only because he was required to assign a grade) and if you didn’t like your grade he’d let you redo it. We spent the class going over interesting texts and cases, and he’d spend time talking about them and going through them; his emphasis was on you being there to learn and not to earn a grade. It doesn’t hurt that he’s also one of the world’s foremost experts in his field. I’m hopefully gonna be doing research with him soon!
So the lesson here is don’t immediately ignore a class with an inconvenient time, because it can really change everything for you in a positive way!
i know! i’ve seen this so much, but i had a 3 hour class on a thursday with a not too great start time(8:30am) but i learned SO MUCH from it and now, i know quite a bit about the human brain. the teacher was like yours, and she would only give a couple assignments that you could redo as many times as you wanted until you were happy with your grade just because she had to grade you on something and wanted to check that you were learning the material. although she assigned little things here and there, you could just walk up to her and say “oh i forgot to do it” and she would say “okay, how long of an extension do you want?” i swear that teacher didn’t deserve some of the students who took her class.
Another piece of advice is don't be too proud and think you can do everything on your own.
A lot of colleges offer free tutoring, help with classes, choosing out classes along with other stuff but you have to go ask for it or see if it's available.
4:26 or better yet, GET A BIKE! IF YOU CANT RIDE A BIKE GET A SCOOTER! IF YOU CANT RIDE A SCOOTER GET A BIG WHEEL! Yeah, people might laugh at you but they wont be laughing when they are STARVING because they cant get any food!
as someone who still has at least 4-5 years until I could even consider it, these tips were real good 👍
Yes
8 ams arent half bad if you're a morning person like me. yes i do love my sleep and would prefer to sleep in, but now my body normally wakes itself up at like 5 am, so i can study and then get ready for class. + the school is super empty at 8 am and u dont have people walking slow in front of u. i do agree w the back to back classes tho. imagine being hungry for hours at a time because u only have 15 min gaps between classes and you have to stand in a line to get food or food is on the opposite side of campus. at least give urself an hour between classes
A big one I've noticed is showing up to lectures but not tutorials. They can't take attendance for a 200 person lecture so they take attendance for your "participation marks" at your tutorials with your TA. And don't ignore your TA as a resource, they're also in school just like you so they understand how to help you with issues more than your prof might.
With the buying textbooks one, my sister would print the books she needed. So all she had to do is check out the books, photocopy them, and only paid a few bucks for books that were $30 to $40 minimum.
I'd argue to do the four back to back classes if you are commuting. It sucks to be in class that long, but if it means only having to make the commute twice a week, it saves so much time.
okay but i started dating my bf who i met in orientation’s like 3 weeks into the school year and now we’re approaching our 7 month anniversary. i think what was big was that we purposely made friends and spent time away from each other
Hi Scott, Thank you for making college videos to help college students in any/every way. These could come in handy as I'm about to start College soon.
Okay he's going about this like everyone is going to name known Universities, though the rest of this is helpful. Let me just tell you, if you go to a small University, rate my professor doesn't always have your professors on there. I tried using that website and none of my professors are on there, just letting y'all know because honestly just talking to faculty (tutors, other profs even) can give you opinions about the professors you're wondering about. Also he's completely right about the railing for the lofted beds, even just a $25 baby gate railing works.
Man as soon as I graduated high school, I knew I was never gonna take an early class if I could avoid it
Hi Scott! 👋🏻 I was wondering if you could make a video where That Kid gets a "girlfriend"? 🤔 I think it would make make a great and hilarious video. 😊 Keep on creating awesome and creative content! ❤
And then he can do a comtimplation of them

the girlfriend should be braces girl💀
as someone who was just a freshman all of these are pretty accurate except...
2:02
3:02
5:37
6:32 (dont know where he got that 10 minutes from, you have many months)
6:45 (hooks are fine, DONT use velcro strips tho bc what he said abt the cheap ass paint is true)
8:04 (no one looks at your id, like at all)
6:32 is most definitely true for many schools. registration will open at the same time for everyone and you really got 10 minutes to get what you actually want. otherwise you'll be sitting on waitlists or you'll have to settle for unoptimal times and professors
3:02 This is true. There will be plans that are more expensive and make it seem like you can't live off the cheap one. But all you need to do is plan out your meals and take advantage of free food. I took the cheap option and had to make myself wake up for breakfast so I wouldn't waste swipes at the end.
@@jacobg8640 I don't really agree with it. It's not going to happen to everyone but I was a hot mess because I couldn't afford food. I didn't get a meal plan but it would have been a lifesaver.
Thank you so much! I will be going to University next semester as a freshman and these helped a lot!!
As a 6th grader, I'm watching these videos 24/7😅
Haha thanks for the tips though! Keep up the good work! Love the vids
Watching this while signing up for classes. All of the offered classes are once a week and 4 hours long 😭
Watching this knowing I chose to take an advanced class at 8 am twice a week (in my defense it’s for my major and will hypothetically be better for my learning type) 0:03
Very informative and a little intimidating.
the one about going home every weekend felt like a personal attack lol
“You were playing splatoon 2 and this is call of duty” im using that 😭😭
as a splatoon fan that hurt 💔
Me, who's not even in highschool yet: Interesting, interesting. *aggressively takes notes*

Your Taylor swift and 1D references are my favorite
My sister raise her hand and asked if she could go to the bathroom the a teacher was like oh don't worry you just get up and go and she was like ....*walks away*
I'm a Senior in High School, this is very useful and interesting
I was already not a morning person to begin with, but it really is true that 8am in high school is _completely_ different to 8am in college
8:11 literally my HORRIFIC 8th grade photo is still in our gradebook so when someone opens their gradebook for a seat change my photo is there.
He seems to love projecting on to us
The bad ID photo haunts are real, at my college we change em yearly free of charge (unless it breaks or is lost before it expires) but during that year they will forever haunt u n your memories, my first year pic i didnt kno that and i just went in right after having run between classes and going into my next one with an ugly ass sweater n on a bad hair day, literally ended up looking like i got a mugshot taken and lemme tell you, thats not smth u wanna see nor show every day to get in
i was so happy and surprised when you said Splatoon 2 i love Splatoon
there was a storm on the third day of orientation and i went on amazon as soon as i got inside to buy an umbrella
I never scheduled 8am classes so far lol
I personally loved the 3 hour lectures (Did a mechanical engineering major)
Im the rare kind that does wake up 3 times at 8am lol
Am i the weirdo who prefers early classes? I wake up naturally at 5 am and Id rather get my classes done with early so I can enjoy my day. If ny class is at 11 am I wont get a single thing done before class.
You aren't alone! I preferred to have most of my classes done before lunch so that I would have the rest of my day to study, work, and hang out with friends. I tried an evening class once and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. By that point I was too tuned out to focus, and had to trade it out for a morning class before the first week ended.
THE CLICKS IN THE MICCC
As a Yale graduate, I was roommates with my GF and you say “don’t do that”
I have an 8 am class and I'm not looking forward to it. Sadly it was the only available time and day so I had to do it then.
“You are offered $1,000,000 to sing a song w/ no mistakes
Me: I be sing a world on fire…
AHHHHHHHHH
3:12 “Because😉that😉is😉against😉the😉rules😉😉😉”
5:00 - This. I once had to stop a girl from pouring liquid detergent into the dryer with her clothes. (She'd washed them with a dryer sheet, apparently, so she had the order mixed up.) Would also like to add as an honorable mention to this, make sure you know how to operate a microwave correctly.
I know it sounds simple, but I swear it's a more common problem than you'd think. The amount of times I had to fly across the common room and frantically hit "STOP" in my college career because a first year student would try to heat a can of soup on its own in its metal casing or leave a metal spoon in the bowl while heating it was insane. (You'll know when it's happening because you'll hear very scary, electric popping noises.)
This was such a problem in my dorm that my RA eventually made and posted a "microwave cheat sheet" beside our community microwave. Then, in the same year, the dorm beside ours had a fire start because someone put their popcorn in for 30 MINUTES and then FORGOT ABOUT IT! They walked away and it smoked until it caught fire. It was bad. Really bad.
All that is to say, even if you know how to operate a microwave, keep an eye and ear out for people who are trying to heat their ravioli directly in the can. Don't be rude about it though! It's not their fault that their parents didn't teach them a basic skill so just help them and move on. I guarantee, based on personal experience, that they will be embarrassed enough as it is and just grateful that you saved them from potentially starting a fire.
EDIT: 7:20 just touched on this and I'm so glad to know this was not just a problem at my school.
I don’t have a class before 11am as a freshman
Um I think I’d be great roommates with my best friend, why you ask? SUMMER CAMP. College dorms probably are nothing like a bunch of sweaty teens in an open air cabin
7:21 how to have swag
1: have a god football team
2: grow up on campus
"Oh wow glowup!"😂
The only reason I knew not to take all hard once is my fast person was helping me secudle class and she told me that a good way to tank my gpa and get kicked off of fasa
Why is he so specific has this happened to him
My high school is 4 classes per semester, 2 semesters per year
For hard classes if your in engineering every class Is hard there is no way to get around that
THANKK YOU
IM NOT GOING TO COLLEGE BUT TYSM

Hi
Hey Scott!! Can you make a video about how every middle school boy asks out a girl for prom so all the girls that watch that video will know how a boy will most likely ask you out
do NOT schedule an 8am class. i repeat do NOT schedule an 8am class.
Is no one talking about “Furry Collage”💀💀
