Incredible to think you got that much blendable tooth on simple 8x11 copy paper! This is the only stuff I ever had growing up and intend to try it again now! Easy Subscription btw …thank you !
@@YolandaBlazquezYou just got my subscription too for the same reason! 🩷 I gave up on oil pastels when I was a kid because textured pastel paper was too expensive for me to draw all the time.
Another great video! Really looking forward to a light-fast test video. Also would love to see a presentation on skin tone palettes. Thanks again, Yolanda!
Excellent!! In fact, I think we'd love to see your favorite pastel colors for skin tone. Anyway, I'm still learning various techniques and yours is very good!
This new one looks like yours boy who you are loving so much immense! It is a good idea to do a video about cheaper support, so you might have more students on your Patreon! You are the gift of keeping simple to do! Great video with good tips as usual! A Patreon fan to you as always!😊
Thank you so much Danyel 😊 it wasn’t a reference of my son but he looks pretty close! Maybe that’s why I was drawn to it. I can share it with you if you want to give it a try. I like to show others that you don’t really need to spend a lot on fancy materials, I think it’s something that stop many from even trying to make art and it’s a shame.
Absolutely lovely ❤ I hope I get even close to this level of artistry some day. I am really taken with oil pastels, and the unique challenges and possibilities the present. I am for sure subscribing and watching your content to learn what I can.

Hola Mari Carmen!
Hi Yolanda, Do tou paint these beautiful Paintingd from a picture or from imagination? I like to make portraits, but I'm often worried about the copyright of the picture that I can use as inspiration. Thanks you 😊 Silvia
hi Silvia ☺ I think that for studies like this one it’s fine to use any reference (found it on Pinterest) ideally mentioning the source if you know it but for personal projects and anything that I plan on selling I make them my own by gathering many and not exactly just copying a particular one. Honestly that’s the hardest part about doing portraits 😅 I would always have models available to make photo shoots
Magnificent! And Yes lease! I would absolutely love to know which are your favourite colours and recommendations for skin tones please!! It would be unbelievably helpful- sennelier colours and neopastels :) I saw a sennelier portrait set but im not sure if the colours really are good for portrait to be honest. You have no idea how much you inspire me to start oil pastel painting- i haven no words to express how beautiful your work is and how it makes me feel watching and listening to your create these oil pastel pieces. Thank you! May I also ask, are colours and a sketch given on your patreon page too?
Thank you so much for the encouragement! I appreciate it very much ❤️ on my Patreon tutorials I include a reference, a line art to trace if desired, a photo of my work and the list of the colors I use for each. The last one I shared was about skintones and on that one I explained my thinking process and analyzed each different reference and then made a demo and included the colors used. If you are only interested in the colors, don’t need to bother with Patreon since I will also share them on RUclips, I just didn’t have the time yet to record the video but I will 🙏🏻 The Sennelier portrait set of 24 colors is superb in my opinion! I wanted to buy it first but they don’t sell the sets where I live so I checked the colors that it included and bought most plus a few extras 😆

Have you ever tried using oil pastels on canson figueras oilpaper or arches oil paper? I wonder how they would work. The canson figueras has a canvas texture and the arches one is a little fuzzy, very cotton like texture.
I tried on canson Figueras because I really like it for oil painting and have it around but it didn’t work at all with oil pastels. The paints glide on it and never stay despite the lovely canvas texture. I shared it in my Instagram stories a while back. I have arches oil paper (which I dislike very much for oils 🤣) but haven’t really tried to make a proper painting with oil pastels yet but it’s the one I’ve used to do the lightfast test.
@@YolandaBlazquez Ah thank you! You saved me from wasting paper haha. I love figueras and dislike the arches oil paper for oils very much too. It just sucks up all the moisture and oil, and everything is so dry and doesn't move and you have to use way more paint and oil than with any other kind of paper. So I don't know if it would work with oilpastels either. Maybe with figueras it moves around too much and with arches it wouldn't move at all!
@loati94 I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t enjoy that paper! I felt like I did some sort of workout trying to move the paint around as I normally do. It has some other issues too but I solve them all applying gesso first but then there’s no convenience in buying it in the first place! And not sure how it would do with oil pastels 😅 you may be right
No, I don’t think it would work. If I ever need to correct something I use a knife to lift and remove the paint and then I would cover the area with some oil stick but for these sketches I don’t bother.
Why i have problem with oil pastels, something doesn't works, im oil painter, also acrilics and drawing, i look like you work with pastels but those mine is cheapest and isnt working, also maybe i make mistakes im not expert in pastels.
It can take a while to get used to them, I find them a bit more difficult to use than other mediums. It’s possible that your paints and the paper that you are using don’t work well together. Which ones are your oil pastels? Mungyo Gallery are affordable and they are very nice too.
Incredible to think you got that much blendable tooth on simple 8x11 copy paper! This is the only stuff I ever had growing up and intend to try it again now! Easy Subscription btw …thank you !
