Yo classical fans, a question from someone who doesn't know shit: how is that possible that a cello reaches the notes of a violin? I mean, why bother using violin?
Good question. Violin and cello have different sound characteristics, so even if playing the exact same note, they'll sound different, like different colors of paint on an artist's palette. All stringed instruments (including viola and bass, too) have their own different beauty and strengths. It's also hard to play super high on cello; a violin sits more comfortably up there. That said, the cello has a huge practical range (low to high) and many beautiful available sounds throughout, and we sometimes ask the same question as you (don't tell any violinists!).

Ok I think I got it, let me see if I got it right tho: it's like on a guitar, when you choose to play the same note on the position 0 of the e string on the fifth fret of the string above? (sorry, I know very little about music terminology and notes, sorry) It's the same note but the sound is sharper with the open string, in a way, and a little more "bassy" when played in the fifth fret
@@alemutasa6189 Yeah, exactly. We have those options on cello too -- playing the same note on different strings will sound different. But it's an even bigger difference between instruments.
