Remarkable phrasing, intensity, and articulation. I just love your interpretations!! One of the most vivid versions I’ve ever listened to… the last section sent shivers down my spine.
Kerson Leong clearly practices at least 40 hours a day. Amazing performance. It looked effortless, and is one of the most lyrical renditions of this piece I've ever heard. Literal chills.
Such a difficult piece that requires so many hours of practicing but not really nice to listen to for many times, what a pity! If I were a professional violinist, I wouldn't invest in this sort of piece, so many greater masterpieces to learn. So I appreciate Leong's sacrifice lol
@@Kosmicant This is a reference to Ling Ling (the fictional violinist who supposedly practices violin for 40 hours a day). Ling Ling is a creation of RUclips creators @TwoSetViolin, Australian violinists Brett Yang and Eddy Chen!
One of the hardest violin pieces for its massively polyphonic four-voice writing… And yet again, you’ve nailed every single part of it, what a stunning rendition! Bravo Kerson, encore!
At 4:43 you can really hear the narrator voice saying "[the boy] is dead". What an amazing performance, the intensity, the passion, tenderness at times, the violent climax and solemn resolution it really does tell the story of der erlkonig very well,. All the voices are distinct and reflect the increasing intensity throughout the piece. Bravo!
"Dead is only he, who is claimed as such by a doctor." ~quote of a book/film called "Come sweet death" So perhaps the boy only pulled a prank on his old man. The boy is dead, long live the boy.
A gripping performance! The quality of the sound is outstanding, and the polyphonic structure comes out clearly. At "Dem Vater grauset's, er reitet geschwind" I had shivers up my spine.
Kerson, you keep me going :) Just living life in general.... it's so much better having *you* to listen to. I rarely pick up my violin these days due to to depression. When I listen to you though, I think: "It's possible". This is why I love you as a fan from across the world so much :) Thank you!
Dude! Those harmonics with vibrato are sooo beautiful!! I need to listen to them in loop, they became addictive! Thank you so much for your interpretation Kerson! Goosebumps seriously!
I love this interpretation so much, I cannot listen to any other performance without realizing how much you have conveyed and how easily it comes through. It's much more the maddening terror instead of pure rage and aggression. Especially with the extreme contrasts between the calmer and more intense bits.
@@kaikirr technically flawless, yet too robotic. Lacks the subtle hints of musicality that Kerson presents to us here perfectly. Apart from that, Kerson has a broader and way deeper sound. Though, I must add: the latter observation is merely a matter of preference.
@@aidentheabsurd I've noticed the same. Hahn lacks musicality and the technique to play Ernst at the proper tempo. Leong does a wonderful job with his rubato, perhaps the best in this piece alongside Feng's and maybe better, while Hahn just plays at a slow tempo like a robot since she doesn't have the mastery to play in any other way. Jansen would be far better for example. It's a pattern rather than an individual observation.
@@aidentheabsurd I normally love Hahn's playing, but not for this piece. Her rendition is too slow and too measured, which is strange because she plays other pieces with much more passion. Maybe I'm listening to an older recording too, and she'd play with more nuance later in life. I certainly think she has the technical proficiency for it. Additionally, Kerson's instrument is PERFECT for this piece. In general I prefer a Guarneri to a Strad anyway for its richer tones and slight darkness versus the sweetness of the Strad.
Hi Kerson, I just got home from your concert in St. John's, NL where you played the Brahms concerto and I just wish I could tell you how fantastic it was for myself and my fiance to sit front row and hear you play this magnificent piece! this was the first time I got to hear it played live and you exceeded every expectation I had about the piece! @@cesaraugusto6869 the one she used in that concert was the 1865 ‘Alard’ Strad Reproduction by Vuilaume and not Il Cannone. She has two by Vuilaume. Besides Stradivari was a Luthier but Stradivarius is actually a classification of violin based on Stradivari’s original productions.

Maestro Leong: Thank for your imaginative approach to the performance of Ernst's transcription of Schubert's Erlkonig and its beautiful concert setting. One question: does a concert violinist actually 'own' one of these wonderful instruments, or are they just too expensive to own these days?
Usually promising musicians at this level are loaned instruments from music foundations or donors as hardly anyone can afford a 10 mil strad themsevles.
