Sadly, they're not getting paid enough not to also enjoy what they do. Orchestra musicians are NOT paid well, which is a travesty. All that work, passion, and dedication should be better rewarded.
This cello concerto by Camille Saint-Saens is stupendous, and it's played perfectly by all here, not only the cellist Bruno Philipe is fantastic, but also the orchestra is superb.

I genuinely don't know why this kept appearing in my recommendations, iit's not like I looked for similar concerts, but for some reason the algorithm thought that if it kep poping up, I would somehow surrender and watch it. And I did. Oh boy, I don't regret it.
Saint Saëns, Dvorak and Shostakovich number 1 are among my favorite cello concertos. I have heard dozens of versions of the Saint Saëns concerto by the greatest cellists of the last century and this century and I can assure you that this is the most elegant version ever made. This cellist is absolutely amazing! His sound is so warm and clear that it hits your soul. When I listen to performances like this, I can have faith that all is not lost. Bravo master!
The way he plays is very intensely, it's almost INSANE to think that that deep feeling and drama is coming form a cello (and the band). They create such a wonderful story with their instruments and collaboration.
This is magic. Was playing this concerto on repeat last year when I was writing my book and now, when I open the book, I hear this music. Life-changing experience. This piece is unearthly beautiful!

Sometimes I think this is better. Let the soloist really rise above the orchestra while still allowing the instrument to speak naturally. As the great anner bylsma said, sometimes there is too much bellowing(paraphrasing). Too much effort put into simply being heard over the orchestra.

I always click on his recordings when I need to learn a piece, he has such a beautiful sound and I love his style. I’m learning the Haydn concerto for competition right now and let’s just say I’ve listened to his video about ten times a day for the past few months.
I love these new shrunk orchestras - the music gains in clarity and precision and this forms obviously a perfect background for that wonderful interpretation by Bruno Philippe, Christoph Eschenbach and the hr Sinfonieorchester. Thank you all! Danke!!
I am going to play that concerto tomorrow in the City Town Hall of Vienna .. Brunos perfomance is a huge inspiration to me :-) So looking forward to performing tomorrow :-)
I don't know what this piece was originally about, but for some reason it invokes the feeling of longing to be reunited with a loved one that passed away. Maybe Bruno just gave a very emotional delivery that lead me to this feeling.
My mum works in the Hr-Symphonica and i'f been in their studio quiet often. The "Sendesaal" was build for recording music and the tech is superb. Movie scores are being recorded, pieces archived for all of the world to hear :) It better be good :P
It's probably the second easiest in the standard repertoire after Haydn C. Not without its challenges but it's no Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante, or Barber Concerto!
If anybody have chance to go to one concert like this- pleace - go! This is food for the soul. All my life I'm listening electronic music,but classic music makes me really calm,happy and gives me all spectrum of positive emotions. And listen and see something like this in live performance - this is incredible)
I performed this when I was 15 years old at the Michigan Youth Arts Festival in 1972. But I must say WOW! What a beautiful and exciting performance. I never knew the middle movement could be played so delicately! The best I have ever heard! I am so happy you played it!

The way he plays really bings out the musicality of this piece with the rest of the orchestra is so beautiful. Especially his vibrato on the longer and intense notes is so powerful yet not overwhelming to the ears
