I liked Prometheus and I was really looking forward to seeing the Engineer's homeworld that would have a strong Giger influence in design on their cities and landscape and seeing other Giger style creatures on their homeworld. This was a big missed opportunity to introduce new monsterous creations inspired by Giger's art and create new horrors. The planet in Alien Covenant doesn't look like their homeworld and looks more like a colony where a group of Engineers settled on. I hope one day maybe we will see their real homeworld.

The other implication is there is another planet that david was going to destroy in the franchise final 3 or 4th movie because they went to war with him for the genocide and he is going to destroy them once and for all. Ending in the battleship crashing leading to the first alien film

im honestly devastated we will almost certainly never be able to see Ridley's vision for the franchise on screen. Prometheus was fascinating and all I want is to learn more, but now the studio is going to be too scared (probably for decades at least) to stray too far from what made the first two films so loved.

In other words, the lack of participation way back eight years before the pandemic when hollywood films could still turn some excellent profits but also Prometheus was an ADULT and mature themed Science Fiction Horror Fantasy movie, I use those four terms because of cryogenic and faster than light travel as well as exotic and hostile ancient alien life forms... also the movie is a mystery story where hints and clues are laid and make you think and notice things while obviously not giving the secret away but that perhaps somehow maybe Ser Scott planned a trilogy but due to resistance to Prometheus resulting in the edited version with religion references or allegory removed far more and we got space slasher Alien Covenant that still tried to maintain and set up Ser Scott's plan but again people did not show up...
So with the planned new film the idea is what will people who claim to be fans do.. and will mature audiences show up who may not be fans... given the recent rubbish of films and some accusations of films being woke even when they really are not like Black Adam DCU film was which just had some corny and preachy dialogue scenes... yet certain fringe internet groups still accused the film of stuff resulting in lower attendance.

This is such a wild narrative to me. There were certainly complaints about needing more Xeno's in Prometheus. But there was also massive amounts of criticism geared to the dumb characters and story telling (despite awesome premise). So why would Scott / studio focus on more Xeno's but give us even worse story telling and even dumber characters in Covenant.
I certainly expected more Xeno's in Prometheus, but was fascinated with the Engineers and wanted more! I think the majority of fans felt this way. I think fans complaining about more Xeno's were a vocal minority. I mean the quality of the film is not a product of Xeno screen time. Yet that's the noise Scott / Studio listen to while ignoring complaints about dumb characters? Makes no sense. You don't even hear from these fans anymore complaining about the lack of Xenos. It shows just how small that group actually was.
And Prometheus made like $400+ million world wide. It was in the top 25 of all R rated box office at the time. So it just seems strange they act like the problem was lack of Xeno's.

So this is a two-part thing as a long-time fan of this franchise. Because on one hand I completely agree with you, I wasn't the biggest fan of alien Romulus even though I do applaud how well-directed and acted it was. And one of the things I hate about the alien franchise is that they keep repeating and remixing the first two movies and nothing else. Other hand, I'm going to be completely honest. I also don't like Prometheus either. It really mishandled to me the alien mythals and instead of create something HP Lovecraft and horrifying it just made things in a direction that was really dull and not very fascinating. Would be something that like an edgy intellectual 14-year-old would come up with. My big thing going forward is that they should stick with the xenomorphs and it's life cycle but they need to explore other aspects. Not going backwards but forwards. For example, if in aliens they show that they live in a hive Society with the queen. What are the drones? What the hell do they look like and how do they behave? How do they get from Planet to planet? Are there different species of xenomorphs? Are they like ants or when? Two different species of xenomorphs meat do they wore at each other with the human stuck in the middle? What about other alien species that maybe those species prey upon the xenomorphs and unexpectedly discover humans and now they've become their new subjects? Hell even though I wasn't a fan of Prometheus, I would love a spin-off in the universe. That's just the Androids as long as it's a spin-off. So many different, very fascinating avenues that they could go to, but all everyone either does is repeat the first two movies or keep putting in bullshit that devaluates the concepts in the franchise.

2- You say it yourself, the whole thing that makes the Engineers interesting is the mystery, once you start explaining and showing more it only gets more and more lame and disapointing (starting by retconning their appearence from what we see in Alien into basic humanoid dudes, followed by making them care about Earth and wanting to destroy it because it's clearly the most interesting behavior they could have given them...).

it's like saying Cthulu was just made by "some science guy"
the Xenomorph is a nameless, unknowable horror from the depths of the nightmarish shadows between the ancient stars.
it's a warning that we got too far out into space & got a bit cocky like "ok..space we got this" then you stick your flashlight into the wrong spot & suddenly you have an albino-spider latched onto your face & your very essence, your dna, is being ravaged to create a lovely little son for you.. a Chitinous Monstrosity that's fun to be with.
it's the same reason why the Borg in Q-Who are eerie & unsettling and the one's in Voyager every other episode aren't.
it's the mystery & speculation that keeps u interested. in Romulus we find out the Xeno can create a cocoon to stay dorment after getting seriously budnt by the Narcissus (& irradiated too)
that's interesting & actually rather creepy if you think about it..that works to build interest...no one except Ridley Scott wants David to be the creator of the Xenomorph.

I will always admire Scott's direcrion of Alien it was and still is a great science fiction horror film with amazing visuals especially for the time. That said his ideas to expand upon the lore have ruined all the mystery of Alien which kept it scary the fear of the unknown. I do not like prequels specifically for this reason. It's okay if you screw up the following sequel because you can just ignore it but when you go back and if it doesn't pan out it ruins the entire lore of everything that was great. The only way I could have ever embraced the direction these new movies went is if they had no connection whatsoever to the alien films. Unfortunately they do and I have to criticise the decisions made because frankly they're just not all that good.

Scott could have split it into 2 3 hour movies but he shat the bed and overestimated the audience and worse yet he rambled on about making MORE sequels/prequels till we got into the first Alien.

And the real one was to be shown in 3 or 4.

He clearly recreated them (and other beings through experimentations on the planets wildlife) through his experimentation on Shaw. As humanoids lead to the xenomorphs. David created the way for these xenomorphs to procreate themselves through the facehuggers I guess.

It made the Xeno less terrifying and special. When I first saw Prometheus, I thought the idea was that they were trying to tell a completely different story but have said story taking place in the Alien universe and it's kinda cool. But instead, because they don't have a clear direction with the series, it ruined the whole lore and overall the series itself.

We never needed to know where they came from and certainly did not need a robot with daddy issues to be the creator of them. The central theme of the Alien movies is exploitation of something unimaginably dangerous and unknowable by humans who, no matter how advanced they are, are just small fish in a much bigger and more hostile universe than they could imagine. What Ridley did is remove all that in favor of shallow philosophy and poor writing.

Theists: : hated it. Stupid Characters. Needed more Xeno's.(Secretly offended).
Atheists: I wish Covenant was different. Xeno's werent needed. Need more Engineers.

The first movie is unwatchable. Just horrible. Ridiculously bad actors and performances. Absolutely the most ignorant plot ever! Boring. Long. Ugh

I love it, that they think of lore, think of various meanings of the alien origins and stuff, but they cant write a decent movie plot, because to me, prometheus has been written like a really bad b-movie shitshow

I think you have very low media literacy if you think Prometheus is poorly conceived lol.
