Who is the original Black Dalek Leader?

- Before Dalek Sec, before the Renegade Dalek Supreme, before even the first Black Daleks appeared on Doctor Who in the 1960s, there was the original Black Dalek Leader from the early Dalek comics. Most sources suggest he was the first Supreme Dalek, and many stories concur that this Dalek may have had several appearances in the TV series. But what is the story of this fascinating Dalek commander from the early Dalek lore?

If this Black dalek is really the same one across all of these accounts, he's the goat
It's an example of the contradictory nature of the Daleks across Doctor Who's long history - some sources say that the Black Dalek from the comics is the same one from The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Some other sources say that all of the Black Daleks in Classic Who are the same individual, and there are other sources which suggest that the Black Dalek from the comics is the same one seen in DIoE, The Chase and The Daleks' Master Plan, but that the Black Daleks from Resurrection / Remembrance are a separate Black Dalek. And then there's even more sources (mostly reference guides) which suggest that all of the Black Daleks from throughout Classic Who are all separate individuals.
It's one of those things in Doctor Who where you can basically choose which version of the story you want to accept as 'canon', or maybe choose to believe that they're all true and that wibbly-wobbly timeline alterations allow all of these possibilities to exist simultaneously. Yet another reason why the idea of Doctor Who having an established 'canon' is not realistic when you delve into the depths of the lore

Take a shot every time “Dalek” is said .
Love this Dalek Unit. Black Dalek designs have always been my favorite, so the original would naturally be one of my favorites in general. Makes it better that he's so competent.
Now that's a cool gunstick! And an oddly developed character for a dalek! I've yet to hear of a dalek mutant going out of it's casing on a casing to stay in a tub instead. I wonder if it's more comfortable, it would explain the Emperor and prime minister staying in case cases instead. These black colored leader daleks seem more distinct from the golden supreme ones
So glad someone is talking about this, he's my favourite Dalek from the comics and Classic Who
Love this channel. My significant other got me into Doctor Who recently and I fell in love with the daleks after the 9th found the one locked in the bunker.
This sounds like it could be such an interesting character, I wonder if they'd ever bring it back as a new nemesis style Dalek, since its unclear on when or if it died. I could imagine it being a very bitter and petty creature after being thwarted so many times as well as the potentially perceived incompetence of members of it's own species. Not to mention it seemed to have a more pronounced personality than other Daleks, which could allow for more creative writing.
We haven't seen Black Dalek Leader in nearly 4 decades now!
I guess due to their many many failures they were usurped by The Superior Red Supreme Daleks.
Dalek Sec was different he was part of an Independent Unit and not of any conquest army so it does not count.
Thank you for the video.
If they're even the same Dalek, it is probably a different Dalek and casing in each story.
I wish BBC brought the First Black Dalek back to screen❤ time😊
Looks like the original black supreme dalek from the classic doctor who
I hope The next Doctor who shows the 1 Black DALEK along with The other black leaders❤,
Thing is you could argue that THE black Dalek was Dalek Sec, considering he was considered the most intelligent Dalek to ever exist and he was a pragmatist who used just a simple black Dalek commander casing.
He was even considered above the emperor
Perhaps, but there's not really anything connecting the two characters other than the fact that they both use a black casing. We see the Black Dalek (or one of them, depending on which version of events you take as canon) die in Remembrance of the Daleks, so that can't be Sec.
Also, the line about Sec and the Cult being 'above and beyond' the Emperor isn't a reference to their rank - more their mission. They still answer to the Emperor, but are not part of the Dalek hierarchy and have been given permission by him to flee the war to ensure the survival of the Dalek race
I'd really like to know more about the supreme council.
I think a clear distinction would be the Emperor is the master lf the Empire abd he sets the long term strategy and plans for Dalek supremacy and conquest.
The Supreme Council is to govern, direct and manage that vision on a day to day basis. Like a government to a monarch.
That's exactly how I see it as well, the Emperor is the sovereign who makes decisions, and the Supreme Council carry them out. In the absence of an Emperor, the Supreme Council appoint a specific Supreme Dalek to be the leader, or they operate as a governing body. If each of the Supreme Council members has ownership over a particular sector of Dalek space, that would explain why the Emperor's death stalled the Dalek's intergalactic war machine, as the different Supremes argued over which sectors of Dalek space should be prioritised
@@dalekbumps its a little like the sith empire in The Old Republic the Dark Lords Council was the day to day government, with various powerful and influential Dark Lords of the Sith appointed to it.
But the long term planning was the Emperor's domain.

5:09 This is a really cool design.
Wow
I think black works well for Dalek leaders. Maybe it's just me but it reminds me of black military uniforms despite being non-human
Can you do one on the red daleks
Yep, I have a video on Red Daleks planned, as well as videos on some other colour-coded Dalek ranks from the early days of the Daleks

What day will you do the character options dalek figures
"Who is the original Black Dalek Leader"
Was it Martian Luther King Jr.
I may have asked this previously in another video, but whats the difference between "Dalek Supreme" and "Supreme Dalek", or are they just the same rank?
Its the same rank, the show uses 'Dalek Supreme' and 'Supreme Dalek' interchangeably
Ahhh thank you; was just curious!
Where is the evidence that the black dalek leader survived the dalek invasion or earth
It comes from the 'The History of the Daleks', written by John Peel and Terry Nation, published in The Doctor Who and the Daleks Book released in 1988. A lot of the information in this book doesn't fit with the established timeline of the Daleks that we know today, but one of the aspects of this story that does seem to have been accepted as 'canon' by both The Astounding Untold History of the Greatest Enemies of the Universe and the Doctor Who Wiki is the idea that the Black Dalek from the comics is the same Black Dalek from The Dalek Invasion of Earth, The Chase and The Daleks' Master Plan
