This was super helpful! My biggest issue with trying to stamp with regular polishes is getting the stamper to pick up the polish from the stamping plate. I thought it was because it wasn’t stamping polish but your experiment gives me renewed determination to practice and make my regular polishes (many of the same brands you showed here) work!
I have the same problem with all but metallics. That was why I finally got some stamping polish. I haven't used it yet though. So can't say if it was the polish or user error.
The polish not picking up from the plate is either because the polish is too thin and dries too fast, or bc you’re not working quickly enough. Sally Henson insta-dry works well (if you move fast) bc it’s thick.
I actually love that there's less polish on the black regular polish stamped design because that irregularity in the lines looks more true to what like a loose linen fabric looks like close up! This was such a cool video and is making me want to take a second look at some of my polishes in terms of stamping ability now...
The takeaway of this video: go buy a yellow stamping polish 😂 Also, this is why I can never throw out old metallic/chrome polishes that I never wear as a manicure -- they're perfect for stamping! Lol
@@KelliMarissa Can you please add the brands and numbers of the stamping plates you used in the video? I am having a hard time finding stamping designs I like, but I liked the ones you used! :)
I do like stamping with Color Club holos. I have three way swatch sticks for stamping candidates so I can see it over black and white. There are instances where its okay to have a more sheer stamp in the background before you put in a main image to give dimension
Oh Kelli, I am so glad your are a scientist as well as a nail polish content creator! This was really a great experiment and taught me so much! I can't wait to use my silver holo to stamp over black very soon!
The Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in white is a really good polish for stamping. Same with the black one. I love space themes, too..and Halloween/spooky themes!
I have found that all of the Sally Hansen insta dry polishes that I have tried were excellent for stamping. The only caveat is you have to be quick. I feel that regular stamping polishes give you a little bit more working time.
Man, the level of detail that goes into your videos! Super impressed. I didn't think I would be interested in stamping but I knew you would make it interesting, so I gave it watch and I was right. You got me interested now...

This is so cool. I use a lot of Sally Hansen insta dri polishes for stamping along with Essie too. But they have to be a good one to two coaster. I have also used china glaze polish too. I have a chrome set from pure ice that stamps great.
I still haven't cracked open my stamping plates (other than just to look at them), but you are giving me some energy. I think stamping is kind of intimidating to people who haven't really done it much - I know it sort of is to me - and so I really like seeing videos about it. I did buy a set of stamping polishes with my unused plates, but I have a TON of non-stamping ones too, and I was wondering if the metallics would work, and your video tells me that they would! That makes me happy, because stamping polishes tend to be more expensive, and some cheaper places (like Dollar Tree) don't carry them. But they do carry metallics.
Hey Kelli! So cool that you did this video today. I have been practice stamping and took a break to rest my eyes. I did the crescent moon from your stamping plate and actually painted it in quite well at my first attempt. I haven’t mastered regular stamping but I had to try reverse stamping. Lol I have to say regular stamping is much easier than I thought it would be. I’m so looking forward to your next stamping video. This was very interesting & informative. The white & red were amazing. Thanks so much! How would a polish that dries matte work for stamping?😊
Such an eye opening experiment. Very interesting to find out that certain regular nail polishes perform well for stamping. Thanks for the tips and showing us the various possibilities out there for stamping and elevating how we wear nail polish🥰💗
This is great! I’ve been wanting if to play more with the stamping kit that you featured recently but definitely want to make sure I use a polish that will work best.

OMG, that linear holo worked so well!! I liked it better than the stamping polish. Thank you for this video as now I will try some of my normal polishes with stamping. 🙂
Thanks so much for this. I love stamping! It's so disappointing when I have a cool idea but realize I don't have the right stamping polish for it. I'll try my regular polishes going forward ☺ FYI, the link above for Orly Midnight Oasis goes to Whats Up Nails Fab Cab. I didn't check any others.

I recently got some Essie creams and they’re very opaque. I’m not into stamping (don’t have any of the equipment) so I haven’t tried them, but I think they’d do really well as stamping colours!
Thank you for this video Kelli! I've been wanting to try stamping but the fact I would need separate stamping polishes for it turned me away from it (between costs and where to put them, it was a bit too much). But now I'm contemplating buying a few plates to try out with my current regular nail polish collection. For tests, I tend to have ILNP as my main polishes so I vote for them! TY again!
Super helpful, Kelli! I'm a get-by-as-cheap-as-possible person, and have found great success over the years with Wet N Wild's black and white cremes for stamping. I hadn't even thought about trying other colors, too! Good to know what colors are probably worth splurging on in a stamping-specific line. Thank you so much! Blessings,C
Fantastic video, very informative! I have a few stamping plates (probably about 35+ lol) but I haven't stamped for over a year and this has reminded me of just how great stamping looks and I must start stamping again.
I’ve weirdly had a better time stamping using my regular polishes than real stamping polishes so this video was interesting! Also theme-wise, I oscillate between loving vampy moody witch and bright rainbow summer😂Makes no sense
Awesome video as usual! I heard somewhere that only “one coat” regular polishes would work for stamping, so this is exciting new information. I’d love to see some Orly polishes in the upcoming stamping video.
You can also use the differences to your advantage. If you want a subtle stamp, using a regualr polish could create the right look because it isnt completely opaque!
SO happy you did this - I have so many polishes and always wonder if I really have to go get a set of stamping polishes….so the answer is yes and no 😂 Also -I loved all these color combos omigosh ❤ I’ve been wanting to try the What’s Up polishes for a little while now. Btw what is the gold polish in the 5:08 minute mark, I’d you have a chance to tell us…
I use almost exclusively holo polishes for stamping. Occasionally I'll use a chrome but they dry so darn fast ya gotta be really quick or they'll dry on the plate or stamper! :D
Fab Cab IS SO GOOD! I used to love BMC/Bundle Monster stamping polishes, but their newer bottles have disappointed me so much. Not true to the product photos as far as color, and then not nearly opaque enough! So when I needed a new yellow stamping polish, I tried What's Up Nails, and I am SO glad I did. What an excellent formula. Bright and opaque, and easy to work with. I also love Color Club for stamping. They were my first holos and they continue to perform well.
I know this video is a year old, but I am in love with the stamp you used at 3:03 - do you know where I might find the plate that lives on? It's cool if not or it's unavailable- I'm just a sucker for hexagon designs.
I just did a manicure that used stamping. I don't have any stamping polishes but I use regular polishes. The ones that work well from my experience are: Sinful colors, L.a colors, OPI and maybe holo taco. I definitely need to get that black, white polishes and that yellow stamping one is amazing wow. Great video Kelli ❤️❤️❤️ I'm definitely a sucker for anything fall/Halloween themes when it comes to nail collection. Give me all the Halloween/fall collections pls 🧡🧡🖤🖤
Interesting seeing Moyou London on here. I purchased the yellow shade "all Stars" stamping polish from them a couple of weeks ago and it looked like the cirque color "Nirvana" polish in your swatch. It was desaturated and muddy over a dark colour. Made me think Moyou stamping polish wasn't very good, but the green you used here looks good. I might have to try the other two colours as I was really disheartened after trying their yellow. Also would love to see you try some of the Holotaco's cremes for stamping, some of them are one coaters for my short nails and I would love to see how they perform.
Really happy you’re doing a stamping series! My suggestion for non-stamping polish would be one of the HT Dark Rainbow colors, like Sunken Secrets or Violet Nightmare.
what type of stamper did you use? i don't care for the Clear Jelly Stamper brand, but the one you used looked good! i am not sure, i don't see it in the links
Thank you for the vid! I would love to see stamping polish reviews of different brands. When I first started stamping I absolutely needed good quality stamping polish or it wouldn't work at all. And it was so hard. Now that I have more experience I can stamp with almost any polish. As you showed they don't always have the opacity I want, but the stamping polishes don't always have the opacity either. I have yet to find an acceptable orange. My point is it's not just the opacity, the consistency of stamping polish is different (usually), and it's easier to pick up and transfer. That matters a lot for beginners. My favorite polish for stamping is Orly Breathable Light My (Camp) Fire, not technically a stamping polish. But I use black stamping polish for stamping most often, because, you know, black.
That's a great point, the consistency of stamping polish really does help the process! I honestly find it to be significantly easier to stamp in the summer/warmer weather, sometimes with the colder weather I find that the regular polishes dry so fast and it's harder to stamp with them but in the summer I almost forget that can even happen haha!
I've watched all your previous stamping videos. I've got the supplies. I haven't gotten the hang of it yet though. Everything just sits in a drawer. I think I will try my next manicure. To return to the original topic question, what theme for polish collections is your favorite, I don't think I have one. But when you said desert, I instantly thought of Rouge Laquers Wilds of Arizona part 1& 2 and wondered if you had seen them. I'm not sure if any are still available on the site.
Five Below used to have a white polish that stamped perfectly and was only $2.50. Haven't been there in a while but for a few years they didn't carry it. For drugstore brand black, China Glaze Liquid Leather works well.
Hello friend, when it comes to stamping polishes clear jelly stamper is my hands down favorite!! Their stamping polishes are very pigmented and don't need much so the bottle last a long time. Great video and love the information ❤💋
I love the concept for this video and it's great that you used such a variety of polish brands for your regular polishes. Comparisons are my favorite! I don't have quite the diverse variety you have but I have some things to work with! 💖 As for my favorite theme... I'm quite basic and really just enjoy a good color story. Mostly I prefer different finishes but occasionally I do love the same thing but in different colors. I have 100% always been that kind of person to buy an article of clothing I love in every color made! I mean, why mess with a good thing? 🤷🏽😅
I think Halloween, just cause you can do a lot of fun stuff with it. Either bright's, moody darks, or really zanny finishes. I still think the most experimental collection ive seen was China glazes Jurrasic world one.
I noticed when some of my polish is getting too old it makes great stamping polish because it has thickened up.
Ooh yeah that's the perfect way to use it!!
Yup. I've heard the cheap wet n wild if left to sit out for a bit will work too
this is great to know because i’m just getting into stamping and most of my OPI is getting kinda old

You may have been stamping too hard when picking up the image.
So glad you did this experiment. Really liked learning the output. I was so wowed by the holo, and shocked by the white and black as well.
absolute favorite themes - halloween, magic, and fall but i am not opposed to any well curated collection.

i only own metallics because i use them for stamping haha. though i find with some you have to work super fast
Don’t say throw any out, i somehow wind up with like 3 more out of nowhere! I swear 😳

Yeah lately I've been SO into the Whats Up stamping polishes, such great quality and they have a really nice range of colors too!
Oooh I have Alpine Snow! Thanks Kelli 😁
Omg, I have been thinking whether I should buy a holo stamping polish, but I guess now I will try Harp on it, it looked amazing!
Oh yeah definitely the best option and it's soo holographic!!
Ooo I’m excited for this!!!!
Yesss it was so much fun to experiment, excited to hear your thoughts!!
@@KelliMarissa I already posted again haha but this was super helpful!! Thank you times a million!!!
Would love to see if the holo taco chromes stamp well!!
Hmm, I think those dry a bit too fast to work for stamping but I'll give it a try!!
@@KelliMarissa thanks so much for your thoughts! I've been eyeing them for stamping so I might just need to use metalics instead.
Again... I learned with you... You're a start... Thanks for these videos... Take care. God bless you 😉
Interesting seeing Moyou London on here.
Ooh definitely!
what type of stamper did you use? i don't care for the Clear Jelly Stamper brand, but the one you used looked good! i am not sure, i don't see it in the links
Oh sorry I didn't link any of the actual supplies haha I'm silly! I just used one from Maniology!
These are amazing! It was cool how many of them were so indistinguishable-that red stamp comparison…I was struggling to see any difference at all!!
I am really impressed with how a lot of these ended up looking!!
This was so useful to me, thanks for the information!
So glad to hear it! 🥰🥰
Ooh please include holo taco toe beans in your linear holo stamp test-it’s my current favorite polish!
@Kelli Marissa I hadn't thought about the weather, you're right about that too. So many factors!
Ooh, love a KM comparison video!! Here we go.....
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@KelliMarissa I *LOVED* it!! Another home run, my friend!! Great job & so interesting
Such a cool video. Maybe I will try stamping nail polish
Ohh yay I'm glad you enjoyed it! I do really enjoy using stamping polish tbh, it just always works so well!
Ooh I haven't seen it, it might have been from before I knew of Rogue but it sounds right up my alley haha!
That bumblebee stamp is so cute! 😍I'm now hunting for where to find it.
Oh it's from What's Up Nails! Here it is - bit.ly/3qFT9BK
@@KelliMarissa 💖Thank you!
Could you please use not milky white from holo taco? And maybe some of the linear holos from them as well. Thank you so much ❤
Dang, I tried using help polish for stamping and that was a fail. I’ll have to try it with regular lacquer. Thank You for sharing! 😊
Five Below used to have a white polish that stamped perfectly and was only $2.50. Haven't been there in a while but for a few years they didn't carry it.
For drugstore brand black, China Glaze Liquid Leather works well.
Ooh yeah Liquid Leather is a great one!
Hello friend, when it comes to stamping polishes clear jelly stamper is my hands down favorite!! Their stamping polishes are very pigmented and don't need much so the bottle last a long time. Great video and love the information ❤💋
I haven't tried that brand before but I definitely should!
@@KelliMarissa you won't be sorry, I'm telling you their fantastic!!
I love the concept for this video and it's great that you used such a variety of polish brands for your regular polishes. Comparisons are my favorite! I don't have quite the diverse variety you have but I have some things to work with! 💖
As for my favorite theme...
Ooh yeah that was SUCH a fun collection, I wish they'd get creative again like that because it's been pretty basic ever since!
@@KelliMarissa They are stuck in a cream phase rn 😭
Anything you do with your nails is jaw dropping
Oh you are too kind haha!
Very useful video, thank you!
I especially love nature themes: flowers, gems, sky, etc.
Ooh yeah I do love a good gem theme!!!
Hi Kelly, can you share what stamping plates you used? Thanks!
Oh mannnnnn I actually did this with the Orly Breathable “Do à Béryl Roll” 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 it worked!!! And thank you
Loved the video - thank you!! Are links to any of the stamps used available ? I would love to find the bee themed plate. 🙂
Ohh I didn't think to write any of them down because I'm silly haha BUT I do remember the bee themed one is by Whats Up Nails!!
