Look I'm French. And yet when I watch Lomu play, even during France in 1999,I just... Stand at attention. This man played the game like it would be played 20 years later. Powerful winger, fast speed, unique ball carrying. This man... Was so ahead of his time. He could have played, when at his top, in 2020,and yet not look out of place at all. Clearly one of the greatest players of the game. Can't wait to hear you talk about Hogg, because it's a sad, sad retirement, and a sad day for rugby, albeit great for him, and I don't doubt he did everything to play in that World Cup.
Thinking about a young player who performed fantastically is none other than Taulupe Faletau. He made his Wales debut v BaaBaas that summer (sporting a cracking afro), and played in both warm up games v England to be named in the squad. He stood in for Ryan Jones in the opening fixture against the defending RWC champions (South Africa) in a try scoring performance. He started all 7 games in the RWC for Wales (keeping Jones - a recent Welsh captain and test Lion out of the team), including an absolutely barnstorming performance in the SF v France where he essentially stepped in at 7 after Warbuton’s red card. A position which he then filled in the 3rd place playoff. He made more tackles than any other player at the tournament (with no misses!). He also topped the leaderboard for carries at the tournament. Having entered as a relatively unknown and unheralded youngster, left the tournament as a world class player. He was shortlisted for the tournament dream team, and received extremely high praise from the New Zealand journalists. To think he was only 20.
Dude, I love your videos. Your passion is palpable; you're knowledge incredible; and you're insight is clearly fuelled by love. Keep up the phenomenal work. Also, the Jonah Lomu shots brought a sentimental tear to my eye. Awesome.
Aah...Steyn at the 2007 was beautiful! He had been playing as a 10,15,14 for the Sharks and still fresh from a Bok debut a few months before the RWC. Then Jean De Villiers tournament ended with an injury in only the 1st game against Samoa. I vividly remember people questioning what White was smoking to immediatley declare that Frans Steyn as his next 1st choice 12. The maturity Steyn showed in that RWC was insane, it was as if he had always belonged there.
I certainly didn't wake up this morning expecting I would end up being both angrier at France 2011 WC while being even more admirative than Thierry Dussautoir, or one of the men I admire the most
Will you do a video on the next generation of world class players coming out of this years U20 WC? Ireland France final should be a belter, some serious players on both sides coming through. Also, the lack coming though on the NZ team is interesting. North hemisphere on the ball at the moment
Wow, I haven't bought Rugby World since it was Rugby World & Post - Congratulations!! I remember watching the 95 World Cup & my first sightings of Lomu; pure class 😊
I've been following the U20 WC and is so much fun to watch. They will be the future. Myself and my family are going to the RWC and we're taking our baby. We are having a nightmare as the organisers are charging the FULL amount of the ticket for a 17 month child! They have no options for children or catered for them. How are we gonna ignite the passion for the game in the youths if we can't afford to get them into the stadiums? Sorry to hijack your channel, but I know you love a good cause. I'm keeping my promise to mirror you in your donations even with Paddy's move to France. Thanks for all the content
Just an FYI, you could probably do an entire 20min+ episode on Fourie du Preez and how he not only revolutionized the Blue Bulls history but the South African tactical history as well. How you'd do this this is unimaginably hard but maybe you can do it.
I've never really cared (I'm irish) but you'd think a lad that is consistently perceived as being unfair or disliking ireland might mention the other U20 finalists. wonder if prendergast or gleeson (or indeed any irish :-p) are in his magazine list. Be gas if there wasn't and it was full of Romania, Georgia and Uruguay and no ireland. He's a real great for the little sides (which I think is class).
@Squidge Rugby are you going to cover the Springboks vs Austrailia & All Blacks vs Argentina games or are you only going to cover the Springboks vs All Blacks game?
U are the only person who will make me want to pick up a book and read it. As soon as I can and I see it I will buy this book. Thank you for adding that bit about the under 20s been a he'll of a tournament. I think Ireland might just have it but that France team is something else 😊
Had no idea who Lomu was until i watched invictus again recently. A total freak. Kinda feel like nz got robbed in 95 when you hear about the food poisoning scandel
Not a popular view but I feel lomu choked the final in 95 and went missing once the tide started turning France’s way in the 99 semi final. I would rate campese and habana above him
What happened to the video where you analyze the Pumas? Did it get taken down or were the Pumas so bad against the ABs you had to take it down because it aged like milk?
It got taken down by Supersport. I’ve contacted them and am hoping to get it back up soon, or at least work out edits I can make to re upload a new version.

Watching Johan Lomu turn Mike Catt into a human speed bump is still a joy.
Hit the notification harder than the realisation of coaching Australia hit Eddie Jones

Makes me wait eagerly for more surprises in RWC2023

Going to watch through the whole previews playlist agai before heading to France for the tournament. Getting very hyped, thanks Squidge!
This has somehow made me even more excited for the World Cup than I already am. I didn’t think that would possible lol
Wow, I haven't bought Rugby World since it was Rugby World & Post - Congratulations!!

Loving the build up to RWC 2023
Can’t wait for the Portugal video mate!

As an Irishman I'm hoping Prendergast lives up to his hype

How did I not know about that World Cup final selection
Insane stuff.
Congratulations on becoming a guest editor
Great videos squidge really enjoying these preview videos especially the ones about the more underdog nations like your one about Romania
Please do a analysis on All Blacks vs springboks game
Just an FYI, you could probably do an entire 20min+ episode on Fourie du Preez and how he not only revolutionized the Blue Bulls history but the South African tactical history as well. How you'd do this this is unimaginably hard but maybe you can do it.
Canan Moodie is going to light the World Cup up.
Great as always Squidge. Really looking forward to France 2023!
Great stuff Robbie
Love the glowing report you gave the Irish U20 team, seems like the French have already won it according to you!!!
They were likely to win guess against australia

@Squidge Rugby are you going to cover the Springboks vs Austrailia & All Blacks vs Argentina games or are you only going to cover the Springboks vs All Blacks game?
That 2011 French team needs a Netflix documentary
We'll be adding Carter Gordon to this list...
Congrats! Love your stuff. I learn so much.
Guido Petti is the youngest argentine player to score in a world cup and he doesn’t remember it as Dan Carter hit him in the head in that moment.
Looking forward to the sa vs aus and arg vs AB analyses🙂
Imagine getting as your first cap in the finals and winning, that would of been one hell of a story.
Squidge squidge magazine

GREAT sweet nice little video Squidge

These videos make me so happy 😁
What? World cup was mentioned without footage of Lea Seydoux?
😂 😂 yeah, I thought it was another podcast for a moment
The French "Gailleton", could be select by Galtier for the WC, and he is not even 20 years old ...
Macca Springer. That is name you must remember
Don't forget about Ange Capuozzo
POR-TU-GAL!!!! POR-TU-GAL!!!! 👏 🙌 👏 🙌 🇵🇹
Frans Steyn 🐐🐐
Talk about how Australia lost to South Africa. #RIPthehype
How did the Free Jacks win the MLR championship when? (I’m kidding, I know the World Cup series takes priority, but Let’s Ride anyway”
Please do a solo video on S.Hoggy
Evan roos pretty young
Lets go squidge!
Not a popular view but I feel lomu choked the final in 95 and went missing once the tide started turning France’s way in the 99 semi final. I would rate campese and habana above him
Hahahahaha
That’s ridiculous mate the fact you think he choked cause he didn’t win them the game just shows how good of. Player he really is
Remember when this guy said England would win the World Cup 😂
WOOORRRLLLDDD CCUUUUUPPPP HHYYYYYYYYYPPPPPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
So we're not gonna talk about the Boks vs Wallabies then?🤨
The title doesn't have much to do with bok v Aus so I'm not surprised.
South Africa vs Austrila bra
