So what are the 11 must-have items for an elegant classic gentleman?
1. Unlined gloves. The advantage of unlined gloves is that it is very thin and looks very elegant. Also, during the transitioning season, you don't need a cashmere lining or alpaca lining because it would simply be too warm.
2. Knit Ties. I like them because they have this really nice texture and today, you can find lots of knit ties on the market. Traditionally, the ones with the thickest texture are the cris de la soie ties and they have the crunch in them, you can hear the crunch when you move it back and forth slightly.
3. Suede boots. Now, boots are in general ideal for fall because they are lined with leather most of the time and they are not super warm and at the same time, they keep you warmer than a regular pair of oxfords or derby shoes.
4. Vest or waistcoat. The term is used interchangeably and it just adds another layer to your outfit.
5. Tweed jacket or sport coat. The beauty about tweed is that it's comprised of lots of different colors and because of that, it may look like a solid from afar, but in fact, there are lots of different colors combined.
6. Quilted jacket. it is so great because it keeps you warm, at the same time it is lightweight and if you choose a length that covers your jacket, you could easily wear it on top without looking too formal.
7. Flat cap. It is a wonderful hat. It keeps you warm, it is stylish, it can be worn by younger men, even teenagers, as well as older men, and it just has this typical seasonal appropriate character.
8. Wool accessories. I know most of the time, ties are made out of silk and that is just fine; at the same time, maybe a pocket square in wool, or a tie, or a flat cap, simply helps you to create a softer look in your outfit that is very appropriate for fall or autumn.
9. Corduroy pants. I know some people may think they make you look like an old professor in College or a school teacher, however, I think corduroy is wonderful for the fall season because first of all, it is very warm and just seasonally appropriate.
10. Pastel colored dress shirt. I know most men have white dress shirts but with a tweed coat, it is just too stark of a contrast. Instead, if you go maybe with an eggshell color, something with a pale orange, maybe a pale pink, or pale blue, it really helps to tie the outfit together.
11. Lightweight knitted sweaters, ideally in cotton. Usually, you don't need the heavy woolen cashmere sweaters until later in the season and so you want a finer knit just to help keep you warm, at the same time, you want to look stylish.

There are times where his advice is spot on and others where I feel like he’s trying to make me look like an 80 year old man.
Yeah I feel the same way love the style but you end up looking like a reject from the 40's.
He gives advice for a very broad audience without really mentioning it and you kinda have to pick and choose. And his audience probably is men at least in their middle adulthood.
Rusty Shacklefort
More 1910s
Chris Norton
Most of his audience is (let's just say) older gentleman
Means well, just that sometimes there’s a very thin line between clothing and costume
This isn't everyone's style of dress. Definitely a vintage, classy element that doesn't work for everyone, but if it works for you, this clip is exceptional. I pick and choose from his suggestions to have a style that works for me.

Fall is definitely the most fashionable season!
Totally, all those layers to experiment with. Plus tweed. Mmm.
Yes 1000% also would like but I wanna keep it at 100😫
So true. Love wearing ties and waistcoats. Have to wait till mid October here in Spain though as early morning temperatures in Sept. may be quite chilly but by midday it's t-shirt and chinos time.
I live in Athens Georgia and I don't think we even have a fall season ,it's 80 to 90 degrees even past thanksgiving so most of these items would just be too hot to ever wear any of them
Can we have a video where you show us your closet? Im curious about how many clothes you actually have and how you organise them!
taylor I can to post the same thing.
He owns a clothing company. Don’t think you can get a bigger closet than that
Nothing wrong with corduroy....but then, I am a retired high school teacher.
I think if the cord trousers were a bit of a closer fit they would look much better. Agreed though, I have a cord 3 piece suit and it looks great, I aman early 30's brown dude though.
Anyone else see that he broke the button on his glove 1:41? I'm sure their quality is very good, I just find it funny that this video is promoting these gloves and.... "Oops. Guess we'll just leave that in there." Lol
@Robby Dey the fit looks right, and I think he's just undoing it. No way he'd leave it in if he broke it
@Robby Dey it broke off you can see the red thread at 1:43
The gloves makes him look like a contract killer
Shukin Andjivin Or a contract killer who happens to drive to and from the job in a classic 2 seater sports car.

I always watch the ads all the way through on this channel just because I know that it supports this channel more than skipping it would
Thanks! FYI, if you click on them, you don't even have to watch them all the way through.
Your knowledge of colors is impeccable!
This Is English Style Timeless...Not Fashion.
They made a great video about how you can use the color wheel to help with your clothing
Best dressed on RUclips award goes to you Raphael.
I’m only 60 years old, do you have any fashion tips for us younger guys? Thanks in advance!
Such good tips, and those overcast park locations with the stunning trees look like a million bucks. Nice work, seeing you out of the studio for a change.
Holy unlined glove! This was a great video. I love that you are out and about instead of just standing inside your house throughout the whole video.
Sven you are truly talented! I don’t always appreciate the cut of your suits a bit old fashioned for my taste but you do have exquisite taste.
I love the way you film your various outfits in this video. Very appealing, ease to the eyes and providing many different viewing angles to the outfits
I'm completely in love with that dark red vest
burgundy
Burgundy, but yeah, me too
Your videos keep getting better and better!
At 5:33 looks like he’s about to carry out a hit on someone
Paul Smith 😂😂😂
Paul Smith Make sure you get the cannoli.
lol
I live in Brazil's North, is too warm bro...
We just use gloves to take out something from furnace haha...
But is nice be a gentleman here at the winter, have so much rain.
Incredible video as always!
As always a great video! Keep up the good work
I think he's the most classy guy ever with I had outfits like this
It looks great I love all the outfits the colours the textures all
Another level of fashion, subscribed
great list!
Now I wanna try out green and burgundy clothes.
all of that shots in the trees looks like a video game, is awesome
This guy is brilliant. I initially thought he was being serious but then realised he was just having a laugh. Keep up the comedy!
This is one of the best outfits on this channel. So classy, so good and sadly so unpopular these weird days :( I wish culture took another road.
Brian Crink we make the era we live in. I’d give away standing out from the crowd for this anyday because It’s not about standing out its about building a world that has class in it.
@@BrianCrink You are right my dude. Mistakes were made in fashion.
Really useful vid Raphael 👍
Your outfit today was gorgeous ! Also I really enjoyed your video
Thank you!
I just found this page and I'm enjoying the tips! Thanks!
Happy to help. :)
I wear a lot of tweed in the fall, mostly jacket/sport coat. While Sven says to stay away from bright reds, I've found that a red sweater vest, either bright or soft, really makes an otherwise muted fall ensemble really pop. The flat cap, cords and no white shirts are some of the things I agree with. Casual, but with some thought.
i love your tie
I'm liking autumn. Cold enough to wear many of my best clothes without getting too hot.
Great Video! Are there any brands you would recommend for a tweed sports coat?
I’m subbed to this man for the memes
Your videos are getting even more colourful and engaging by time. Great job Raphael 😎👍🏻
Thank you!
Lol I want all of his outfits! They are super dapper
We have from -5 to -35C in the winter, what would you wear? Autumn very often windy and it feels like subzero, with a flat cap no chance of survival.
As always - nice video! Are you going to make any style tips for winter? Where I'm living it is not unusual to have a snow and real frost after a couple of weeks.
For a tweed sports coat, I like to get a Taupe colored coat. A nice mix between grey and brown and goes well with both grey and brown colored pants.
Class style ...Master of style
You tore the button of those beautiful gloves
hello, i just need some help with a school formal coming up soon. i have the opportunity to purchase 2 suits. I was wondering if one of the suits which i am planning on purchasing, which is double breasted would be appropriate for a school formal with dancing i think?
I love the professor outfit btw
You have to tell me where you get your vests, those are are awesome especially the velvet one and the blue dark jean looking vest
Although the overall style of the outfit is more mature because of the earthy colors and the textured fabrics, I think the flat cap makes you look younger. They make everybody look younger in my mind because they remind me of newsboys.
Nice! I have an old green tweed jacket that is high quality and very warm and heavy. I found it on Ebay. I pair it with a tweed flat cap. Most of my peers do not where what I wear. I don't care. I don't wear hoodies or sweatpants in public in which most people wear nowadays during the pandemic.
I‘m interested in a boutonnière but I am not quite sure which one pairs with my khaki/olive coat.
Maybe you could recommend one to me:)
I can appreciate the style, but one reason this looks odd today is because we don’t need to worry about temperatures too much. Walking from a warm building to a warm car does not really make gloves or a cap a defacto requirement, other than for the look, which again I do appreciate.
Also, if I am out on a beautiful fall day, I will be working around the house or hiking, so not sure where I go to wear these looks. I do like the flat cap, but the gloves I would choose would be more tactical and practical.
I do like the concept at advice in these videos.
Raphael is the only person i know that designs his own gloves because they don’t have a design he likes.
I need that brown sport coat Sven is wearing early on in the video, in my life.
do you think a scarf should be itchy or should it be soft ..? if u had to wear it as a uniform ....
I love a lot of what your suggestions are, but part of dressing well and being dapper is understanding the audience. As a college student, I would be mocked, instead of being considered a gentleman and a leader, if I dressed this way. I love how you keep history alive, but it may be good to communicate the importance of context to your audience.
Can you make recommendations on how to wear boxer shorts. Do they need to be tucked in/down trouser legs ir. Bunched up
Hey Raphaël, what is your opinion on barbour wax jackets?
Hi so gotta question, can you use t-shirt and a blazer? Thx
What are your thoughts on waxed cotton jackets like Barbour makes?
Nice video and outfit. I have to say, trying to find stylish waist coats is a difficult task!
Waltski Then ask a tailor to make one for you. They are ridiculously cheap in eastern europe.(low price superb quality)
I enjoy your videos, however they are not very practical where I'm from since its summer 11 months out of the year here in Texas. Do you have anything for us since wearing multiple layers would lead to intense sweating and look out of place. Or should we just continue on with the summer wear?
debonairgallant for your location. It will be more a case of understanding seasonal color trends. It may feel like summer 11 months, but the seasonal color trends change. Vests or waistcoats may also be a good choice. It is an extra layer with little heat capturing potential. Fall is my favorite time of year. The color pallette is subdued, so you can incorporate more colors without being too garish.
Zachary Sims I appreciate your response and will take into consideration what you said.
Do you have a video for spring/summer?
What is your opinion on caravattes?
Hello. Can someone direct me to a link(s). I mostly go odd trouser. I have gray light medium charcoal, navy blue, Khaki, off white. Shoes. I have oxford chocolate wingtip, brown 1/2 brogue , oxblood 1/2 brogue, black plain, brown Chelsea, and 2 suede shoes not sure type 1 brown 1 blue. Odd coat tweed brown, dark brown, navy blue sports coat. Dress shirts white, light blue , pink. Need help matching
I am drooling over your burgundy gloves -- perfect for Fall, and the button is a nice touch. There is something "wrong' with this outfit -- I finally figured out it's just too much colour. I think you should go with a brown corduroy, not caramel, for the pants.
Make a video on edc
DO you know any style of dapper that goes great with german Jackboots?
Hobnails or cleats?
In las vegas fall is like an indian summer. We have very warm falls. Then very mild cold winters
wow
Raphael, I ask this as a fellow Minnesotan. Can you can you make a video on staying stylish in deep winter? Despite my best intentions, I find it difficult and even slightly dangerous to go out without my Columbia or thick Northface when it is -40. I collected a few which allows me to try to pull off a look that is almost like a quilted jacket setup, but it would be lovely to have your expert opinion to make them look as stylish as possible while staying safe in the long upcoming months.
Wool layers and fur on top if you can afford it. That's what people did before puffy coats and high tech materials.
I usually wear sports clothes but this make me want to wear Suits
I just found out that some of they gloves are made in Hungary, in my motherland.
5:32 Ralph looking like a gangster
Now that's how a real gangster dresses.
Where can I buy your tie at 2:50 ?
l don't know abaut men deforme, but, as a woman, l love the way you mix and match textures and patterns. Compliments. tuo have a really good tasta. You make it interesting, don't looking cheap as many guys that try to be modern. If guys are affraid of looking like and old man, l think, is just question of mixing and matching. Complimets again.
What is a "mater or Matter" tie?
“All the colors compliment each other”
Where’s red, tan, pink, blue, and brown together
What's that thing that hold your tie at collar called?
Wenxu Sun collar bar
I think you left out flannel trousers. I've found that flannel is such a nice fabric for fall and winter due to how warm and comfortable it is.
pikkuhakki2 he mentioned flannel last year. Or the year before.
4:10 Whats the name of these type of shoes?
Raphael how did you get into more "oldschool" clothes?
truth of this earth, 42
Probably by living in the clodes.
What would be the most versatile base color (out of the shades of grey, for instance?) of a Donegal tweed jacket? Light, medium, or dark?
Probably mid-range. Your other items can contrast lighter or darker then. If you pick the darkest or lightest shade, the other items can only go in one direction to contrast - reducing the choice from your wardrobe.
@@dcarbs2979 Makes sense, thank you! :)
what's up brotha
6:51
What kind of jacket is that?
What company is good for buying a high quality umbrella?
I like "London Undercover", I live in the rainy part of the world and mine has served me well. You get what you pay for!
Hyperedu Do NOT buy the Unbreakable Umbrella. The handle of my umbrella fell off of it.
Even little teenagers lol
M65 field jacket.
Like the video lol
I can just feel the sweat running everywhere
That is why you dont buy poliester
What is your feeling on moleskin pants for fall and winter?
I’m finding it very hard to buy into corduroy. Somebody needs to sell it to me.
Check out our guide about it
So generaly if you wear odd vest with jacket then jacket is not supposed to be buttoned?
I think he just did that so you could get a better look at his vest for the video
+Mart quite right
Thank you for clarification.
Is it me or does the button from the glive on his left hand side rip off😶
Love these videos. But like watching Downton Abbey, dressing and acting like them doesn't really work in most social settings :D
love your voice and original outfits :) I was wondering is you could tell me what song is playing in your intro
It was composed just for us, the Gentleman's Gazette song
Is there any way we can get a hold of it?
Adding a women's glove in a six button length would be great ! Flesh colored, in an unlined kid or other thin leather. Hard to find !
It already snowed where I'm from. Sigh
I don't wear a lot of colors this time of year. I unconsciously wear a lot of black in fall and actually go _towards_ looking more dark. The colder it gets and the further along the year ends, my overall mood changes, and it isn't very lively despite all the holidays.
Most of his gear/ clothing, odd vests, old style tweed jackets would be more appropriate for a 70+ year old man
Which is expected, since a lot of these styles where popular 60-70 years ago. Doesn't mean younger guys can't make it work.
People who are very dogmatic about how men should dress have a tendency to dress like old men.
In my family, we (men) tend to dress in more classic and semi-formal clothes than most people. That’s how I was raised. As far as tweed, my family has Irish and Scottish heritage (from my mother’s and father’s side, respectively); my grandfather had tweed in his wardrobe, as did my father, and so do I.
It may seem “odd” to some, but I’ll argue a lot of it comes from one’s heritage and how they were brought up.
Most 70+ year old men I see around are wearing jeans, baseball caps, and a sports team jacket. If they are dressed up, it's in a dark chain store suit, a white shirt, and a Bugs Bunny tie. Old hippies are not wearing tweed either. Young people now have never seen these types of clothes in general use before, just in movies.
Good point. This is probably why many young people think of tweed clothing as “dated” or a bit odd. Then again, tweed flat caps are quite popular now, and I see more and more people in my age group (20s) wearing them.
Scarves?
I save money on gloves as I NEVER NEED THEM HERE IN SPAIN. i like the look of cords with a tweed jacket. Their only drawback is that they stretch and lose their shape consistently even if you aquire the more expensive ones, so I'm hesitant about a re-investent. I prefer to go hatless than wear a flat hat;. It doesn't suit me. Having said that, I really like fedoras and Panama hats. Great video though.
