What are your favorite vintage buys?
Overcoat.
I bought a beautiful chalk stripped waistcoat for £20 but a little after a bought it i saw it had a label on it saying Savile Row
Vintage China is the most value for that money in my opinion, besides vintage furniture.
My favorite vintages are Blends Plus Size Winter Coat & Tuxedo Brand Fashion.
It's costs $73.03* others = $45.83*
I've bought a early 60s green tweed Brooks brothers sport coat off of etsy found another 3 items off of poshmark a brown hounds tooth patterned sport coat and navy blazer like Preston's and a trenchcoat which all vary from late 1950s to early 1960s
Please , give this comment a thumbs up if you like the new format! Also, share your thoughts on how we can further improve it
Raphael and Preston: Excellent video. Perhaps next time try a sit down conversation over coffee while showing the topic of the video. Looking forward to seeing where this goes
I love this new format because it feels a lot more relaxed. It also makes it more interesting because you’re more likely to add in little comments and opinions and some jokes that may not have been part of original script: something that wouldn’t happen in a one person video.
Good format for occasional videos. I agree with others that it would also work well if you were sitting sometimes - e.g. in (vintage) chairs, or at at a table... or even outdoors in the summer perhaps? I think the interaction and humour are more important than the actual setting.
Enjoyed the format - would love to see more like it. Would also enjoy seeing some of Preston's singing. Well done!
I like this format!
Yes to the conversation style. Keep sprinkling that type of video in. Makes it feel kind of podcast-esque.
I agree
I agree as well
agreed
I agree way more interesting than other kinds
On that note, a Gentleman's Gazette Podcast would be amazing!
Wow. It is good to see both of you in the same view, same video. Good job.
They have appeared in the same video before, but usually choking each other or being "douchebags" to each other.
Stalin would send both of them to Siberia for a timber harvesting the same day he watched this video. And lucky they were if they would manage to take their vintage overcoats with them.
I like the new style Raphael!.. But my suggestion is maybe sit down and have some coffee on a coffee table..Makes a really conversation atmosphere.. Great video by the way!
I second that idea!
@@waltski4375 Now we have to find a nice chairs for the studio :)

@@BobTheHatKing That's also a good idea!
Exactly this!
Your house is truly beautiful. Could you please do a video tour of your closet?
Thanks. We are in the process of building the closet in a room but we probably have to make structural changes to the house due to the weight of the wardrobes. We'll string you along the process, so no worries, you won't be missing out!
@@gentlemansgazette Schöne Kleiderschränke sind wirklich sehenswert! Ich freue mich auf das Video dazu!

@@gentlemansgazette your house is literally buckling under the weight of your clothes, I can tell you're a professional

I had a good belly laugh at the "watch more videos, make more money" joke! Preston I'm doing my part! As an old carpenter I can see you in an old historical home. Good luck!
Thank you for your videos. As a lady, it's nice to see gentleman who find it a show of respect for themselves to look their best. My nephew and I will share different videos of yours with each other. Because of you, I think I found his perfect birthday gift! Keep up the good work! The world needs more class.
10:11 I loved this honest, comical statement with a complete straight face.
Yep watch more videos for Preston!!!!
21:31 "IM WEARING A VINTAGE TIE AS A BELT!!!" Sven:"...your fired :P "
I must say, you guys are really helping me update my style as an adult! Please keep the channel alive, I REALLY prefer the conversational format. The other videos can feel like lessons not entertainment. Keep it up!!!!!
My man looks like Clark Kent when wearing the over coat.
Love the new conversational format and your distinct, yet complementary viewpoints. More please! Cheers.
Double whammy! Love the new format! I'm still learning to buy vintage. Online seems to mix modern manufactured goods with actual vintage clothing. I've only begun to explore local thrift and antique stores.
Dad had overcoats in three shades: camel for day-wear; dark for evening; and grey for day into evening. I found out that my friend's dad did the same.
As someone who really enjoys this RUclips channel I can say that I am really happy to see this new format and that you guys are still making such quality videos. I'll make sure to watch as much as possible so Preston can start house searching.
Keep up the great content guys.

Raphael: Buys a stack of 90 various bow ties
Gentlemen, the conversation style is just right and makes it even more pleasant to watch.Well done and please keep it up.
I love how this video touched on home decor and lifestyle as well. As someone who has outfitted my own house in all vintage furnishings, I’d love to see more of this!
Preston, that light overcoat looks spot on. Great find!
The key is to find stores in excellent, high-income areas. Resale or consignment shops, often run as part of churches or hospitals. Versus "thrift shops". Also, there are often (pre-Covid) wonderful rummage sales run by churches, clubs, hospitals as fund-raisers. These are often an incredible source of great fashion buys. One in Central New Jersey raises over $1 Million Dollars annually for a medical organization and has literally large circus style tents full of lovely men's - women's clothing. Location is key. Once we get out of the lock-downs (if ever) look for these sales to resume and get there early on the first day. And look for consignment shops in upscale areas.
I've always liked those 1950's and 1960's ties with abstract designs in the centre, such as Wembley ties.
I wish there was a women's video done like this. Chalk full of information about a lot of different vintage wear and household things to look for.
My choice in suits is always get a worsted wool suit. I like the pleated trousers. They have a nice look and they are comfortable. The worsted wool is comfortable even for warmer weather and it lasts.
Fantastic gentlemen: I love this new format :-)
Can I say, I'm super excited as recently I bought a Pal Zileri Sartoriale suit. It's at a tailors being altered. I actually paid £5.00 for the two piece: it's wool, charcoal with a window check - some hand stitching I think. I didn't know anything about the maker till I googled the suit a week after buying it; a similar suit retailed at Harrods for over £1500 quid (gulp)....I'm getting it back tomorrow.
So yes vintage shopping is my new hobby:-)
Regards
Tony
Make sure you give the gusset a proper clean
@@mikew742 wise words :-)
As a goldsmith, I will say that you can find some second hand jewellery being sold for well under it's value, if you know what to look for. It's also important to note that synthetic and fake gemstones have been around a lot longer than most people realize, so it's important to be sure of what you're buying if you're going to spend more money.
I like the shot of you wandering through the snow in a fur coat.
This was Preston’s best video yet. He seems so robotic in the other videos but this was delightful! More like this would be great.
I have a 1954 bulova 23 jeep automatic with the black sunburst dial and I absolutely love it it is my daily watch and it belonged to my late grandfather and it is very special to me and I absolutely love it
Thrift stores are a God-send. Unfortunately due to my being a plus-size gentleman, the clothing selection for me is slim and rare. However, I really agree on the ties. Ive bought the majority of ties at Thrift stores, usually between $1-$5. Many have never been worn ( gifts likely thrown in a drawer until donated. some still have the original store tags on them) and many are quite high-end. Also, shoes. Ive found at least 4 pair of high-end Italian shoes that only needed cleaning or minimal repair. Even found a pair of horse-bit gucci loafers that were less than 4 years old for $5!!!! They had no idea what they were selling!
I love this channel. It steps outside of my comfort zone style wise, but in all of the best ways. Also, the way you two talk about style, you absolutely love it and it shows. Great work.
Love the opening! .........'and vintage buys'!!!! Oh yes, I'm a big fan of vintage clothing. I started in the late 70's, early 80's with the Punkrock and Newwave seen! Love the casual banter!
I like the new format, also. I agree that the "talking over coffee" styl would be a nice experience for the viewer. Great and informative video!
Wow.....a double-team episode....awesome...great idea! I am a bit of a scavenger (clothing, pens, jewelry) and vintage/consignment stores and eBay are outstanding sources of good clothing at a good price, if you are careful. I carefully vet the seller and, if I purchase clothing, I immediately have it treated (heat or dry cleaned) to prevent insect infestation.
Both of you really pair up. And the new style is nice. Keep it alternating with the former one.
Really liking his format. I think it does well to get a little extra dialogue going. Maybe a spin-off series just discussing different aspects and opinions in menswear?
I'm loving this commentary/conversation style of videos. This is refreshing! Keep them coming.
This is awesome, I love this, and yes, I love this discussion format
You guys look dapper. Nice to see men dressed. You just look better when better dressed. Thank you tube for suggesting. Like the format.
I’ve recently “tripped” across this incredible channel; have recommended it to nephews in their teens and early twenties who are building their wardrobes. The great advice and good style concepts are easily transferable to women’s wardrobes as well...well done Gentlemen’s Gazette, you are a winner and a keeper!
Stunning video! I absolutely love the new format.
One thing I was amazed to see was the rug from my country in the US.
Keep up the good work!
Great video. The conversational format is a refreshing change! My wardrobe for the past 30 years has comprised of second-hand purchases that include Canali, Samuelsohn, Hickey Freeman, Corenliani and other respected brands. You suggested using old ties as a belt. Here's one of my personal tips: Repurpose the linings of old suits and sportcoats that you plan to discard, and also old frayed shirts as pocket squares. A hem can be easily sewn by hand or machine.
Absolutely love Preston's hat collection 😍!!!
He looks amazing!!! In them!!!
I love Preston's look in this video. I actually went and bought a purple/burgundy pullover and a matching pale pink cotton dress shirt today after watching this. Cheers for the style tips!
After about fifty years of haunting flea markets, thrift stores, etc. all of your finds were familiar and your suggestions rang true. Buying vintage or antique not only gives you something with a unique quality at a bargain price, but, often a story to go along with it. For example, I once bought my wife a set of Limoges china from the crustiest character I've ever met. (Although, in some ways he was a kindred soul.)
I was a "collector" of various things since I was a kid, and my interests have changed over the years, so the stuff around me is eclectic. I'd tell you about the room I jokingly call my "man cave" but, that would be straining your viewers' patience. I'll just say that you can really create a strong ambiance with some effort. Thanks for another great video.
Dude loves his rug.
Very much enjoy this format, been waiting to see both of you in the same vid! Nice
The cufflinks at 2:50 are gorgeous
I LOL’d when you showed that fish tie! 🤣 I bought 2 of those Ralph Marlin ties at a thrift for $1 each and sold 1 of them for $20
Your home is beautifully furnished and decorated! Sie besitzen einen ausgezeichneten Geschmack!
I really enjoyed this one, its nice to see you guys going off script and letting us get to know you through your back and forth conversations.
Vintage is the best thing ever. I've found a nice amount of silk ties (Charleston, Marja Kurki etc.) and vintage jackets (SIR Sweden, Turo etc.) made of either silk and wool, or at least complete wool. I once also found a pair of old silver cufflinks from 1968 (made in Turku, what I understood from a local jeweller I know) for 20 euros (noticed from the alphabetical carving what is used in Finland). They were pretty black, but I cleaned them with some ketchup and toothpaste.
Also I've gotten some silk pocket squares and at least one silk tie from my aunt. This shows; you don't need to spend too much cash in order to find good clothes.
Love, love, love vintage. You are correct, the quality of vintage jewelry, furniture, clothing is much better than today's standard.
One of my favorite thrift store buys was a Michael Kors navy blazer NWT for 10 bucks.Regular price was 295.dollars.Another buy was a Crocodile shirt NWT also which had a price tag of 190 bucks. With a lot of time on my hands( I am retired) I hit the thrift shops for clothing with tags still attached . Sometime I can go to 3 or 4 stores and not find anything but when I do it makes my day.
Thanks guys & yes it was a nice change. I liked Preston's fav hat & the vintage Google symbol 😉😉👍🏼
Yes gentlemen, great idea and topic. I would enjoy more of this style. Thanks a fan!
Yeah, this format works nicely guys! I like the chemistry and back-and-forth banter. Very entertaining and informative!
This is an amazing video. I loved it as well as the format, In my opinion, Preston looks much more relaxed and articulate. Sven, amazing as always
I really like this new format and look forward to watching more videos like this one.
I have to say, I love the back and forth between you two. You have chemistry on camera together.
Some duos don’t pull off the dynamic conversation you guys do! Great job! It was really natural.
I enjoyed this format so much... Amazing pace of dialogue and this was impromptu? Wow. You are both so amazing at this. Thanks for sharing the knowledge! I only have vintage accessories but most of my furniture are antique Louis xv and xvi's. Totally aligned with using quality vintage!
that fish tie deserves only respect
Yes! Really enjoyed this conversation between you two. The occasional video in this style along with the more usual instructional style seems like an interesting mix. That said, I enjoy all of your work. Keep it up! Best Regards,
The duo format worked very well! A pleasure to watch both of you together.
I enjoy this new format. This topic is great. I think about 80% of my formal wardrobe is from thrift stores. I've gotten items that were worn once and basically in pristine condition for less than 10 bucks.
I love the conversation style! keep it up please!
This is wonderful!! would most definitely love more!
Excellent video! Me and my wife have many vintage items in our home in Athens, almost all lights/chandeliers were bought through Ebay, we have pieces of furniture that belonged to our families and others that we bought in antique shops or through Ebay etc etc, mostly in art deco style, but also some older and newer stuff. We regularly get comments about how nice our place looks, and I am pretty sure it did not cost more to furnish it, than it costs many people to furnish their houses with faceless mass-produced pieces.
Great video!, I love the format and I can see how much work you guys put into this
A fantastic show indeed! I really enjoyed the format of you both together providing great information and some of the casual banterings with humorous anecdotes. Some of your blazers, jackets & long coats shown which you acquired for $10 & $15 at vintage & 2nd hand stores are exceptional and in some cases amazing based on their looks & nice fit. You both do very well when appearing alone in your shows but I definitely vote for you continuing the duo format. You both have a very positive, kind, super-enthusiastic and informative attitude hosting with wonderful smiles and decorum. Thanks so much. With warm regards,
Dr. William Jarvis & JHC Institute
LOVE this format.
Absolutely fantastic video, love the format and the input from both of the hosts
Love the vintage idea xoxoxo love looking through the racks for the perfect find!
Love the new format. Keep 'em coming, guys! Grüße aus dem Rheinland!
I like this new format because then I get to see both of you in one video! :D
Love to see you both at the same time! Great job gentlemen.
Does Raphael live in a castle or a chatau.
Both
Hercule Poirot “ Chateau” not chatau.
@the Earl of Oxfordshire apparently it's not a pub: there is one called the Duke of Cambridge though, so it's not entirely impossible
I really enjoyed todays venture into vintage...it inspired me, please continue to do more
Very good job on this video. I have not commented before, but I love what you gentlemen are doing. Please keep it up.
This new format is great! Excellent video gentlemen
This video was great! A lot of very cool and useful material was covered. The more casual conversational style was a good approach to covering this much material. Thank you.
Thanks guys. I enjoyed this very much.
Appreciate these videos, and I do like the conversational style. An entertaining and informative opportunity to see gentlemanly demeanor 'in action'.
Another great thing to look for in vintage is briefcases. I got a great 196's Cheney leather briefcase at an estate sale very cheap
I like the new format. It feels more warm and informal and it is good to see both of you together in one video. Please do more. But keep the old format for some videos as well. I agree that all those vintage items are better, espically watches. Vintage items are better than new. They are cheaper, are of better quality, look better, have more charm, and have more history. Also, what a beautiful home you have.
I will definitely look at gently used stuff. We have a hospital that has a huge thrift sale one weekend a year. Got a great vintage raincoat with really nice satin lining and winter coat one year for like $20 each. I still use the winter coat 12 years later. Love the conversational vibe. Great channel .
I like both of you in the video, the conversational type format is great!
Went thrifting today to start my business wardrobe for a new job after binge watching all of the vintage / budget related videos y'all have put out, walked out with a 2 piece suit, a navy blazer, and 4 sports coats for barely anything at all. Will need a dry clean and a little tailoring but my projected savings is around $1500 dollars. Thanks for the tips!
This is great!!! I love this podcast-esque talks!
Excellent point that classic style item can often be even free. I had my mechanical watch repaired for free because I struck up a good conversation with a passionate small town watch seller. Saved me at least a few hundred dollars. While I did not plan it and I certainly tried my best to repay him, i think it demonstrates how far being nice and knowing a few things can go.
The purple looks beautiful on you Preston!
Even sitting down for your conversation would be comforting for you guys and us. It's awkward when you guys have a scripted convo, but you know what the other will say. I like that you guys set each other up and have good questions.
Preston, the tuxedo it fits you perfectly! The cut is fine for your slim build.
Excellent video, many vintage items are very affordable and stylish! The conversational type is a good format as well so keep it up☺
I wanted to start buying vintage clothes a week ago, perfect video for me.
This format was very different and entertaining. Thanks.
I like this new format! It’s good to have two different experiences and points of view in the same video
One of your best to date, thank you!
I am really enjoying the conversational format
