Over the last two years, I have lost considerable weight, so none of my clothes fit and I'm rebuilding my wardrobe. The theme I'm going for is "country gentleman", so tweed will definitely play a role.

After many years of being a blue collar worker, I have finally retired and decided to go from the wearing of blue jeans and work shirts to something a bit more fashionable. I am of Scottish heritage and have always wanted a Harris tweed sports coat and finally ordered one in brown/olive barleycorn. Just trying it on with a pair of blue jeans and a green plaid shirt was a great look that made me wonder why I hadn't bought one before.

I definitely agree that Daniel Craig's Bond character seriously missed the fashion mark when they did not make use of Tweed in his wardrobe. His recent movies had a certain visual style where Tweed could have enhanced the look and feel of his movie character.

Tweed is created by artisans. It is a beautiful and luxurious fabric turned into warm, elegant clothing. Tweed is a statement of enduring good taste, despite it being worn by the aristocracy with the likes of the malthusian mumbler Charles or the notably fascist sympathiser Edward the VIII. I love the stuff.

My first tweed was a newsboy cap. Later I thrifted a Harris Tweed sports coat. I've added two more tweed jackets since then. Tweed takes some of the chill out of autumn and winter.

I couldn’t agree more Ash. I recently upgraded my first suit to a nice tweed three-piece number (charcoal herringbone), and LOVED it. It is custom made for me, so fits beautifully- and it is so comfortable it feels like I’m wearing a tracksuit. Now I want tweed everything. Ive bought a couple of Harris tweed waistcoats, flatcap, even a tweed-covered hipflask ( for medicinal purposes, of course). Tweed is the best.

i always find it so interesting that some fabrics, like tweed, linen, knit wool, etc. when used in certain contexts was considered distasteful or low-class since only the poor would have not been able to afford the more "proper" fine worsted and silk clothing of the upper class for different occasions. we now consider these fabrics expensive or "high-class", both because the more aristocratic have adopted these fabrics, and because the aspects that made them cheap in their heyday - locally spun and woven, made in small batches, domestic industry - has now made them rather expensive materials compared to what most people are used to today.

I've always liked tweed jackets. First one i bought was in 1997, which i purchased for just £50. The second one i got was wenty years later, which was a heavyweight one from Slaters, followed by a further 3, (2 from brook taverner & 1 from Rackhams) which despite being stylish were medium weight fabrics.
Then,.. 2 months ago, i had a 3 piece Ettrick suit made to measure from Bookster tailoring in Gloucester, Uk. The quality is impeccable & at 640 grams is perhaps of the heaviest yarn. Infact, i've ordered another one & quite possibly will order a 3rd one too. For the qunintessential english man

Great channel Ash and thank you. I think sport jackets for a lot of men is a great place to start as like you say tweed does come with some 'baggage'. Men just need an introduction to jackets again... A good brown cord jacket is a wonderful, informal and versatile place to start. A work colleague wore one with jeans and a black t-shirt on an evening out and it really popped. It shouldn't but looked great. I bought one and it's a slippery slope to jacket nirvana...
Thanks again for a gem of a channel.

Thank you very much for this video - I totally love tweed Ash and thoroughly agree with you. I have 6 quality Harris Tweed jackets, 3 caps and a pair of gloves as well as 3 Donegal Tweed ties. One of the drawbacks of summer weather is that I have to stash them away for a few months! Tweed did make a renaissance very roughly 8 years ago on the high street, but the offerings, whilst looking trendy, lacked any level of quality by comparison to Harris Tweed and its peers. For a closer look at the manufacture of Harris Tweed and it’s history, Hugo Jacomet made a video about it on his RUclips channel, Sartorial Talks. Have a great weekend 👍🏼

Thanks for this video. I’ve always wanted a tweed jacket but they’re difficult to find that aren’t blended with cheaper materials. Still looking though 👍🏼

Wonderful defence of the glorious tweed jacket. To the hell with those who scorn it! 😁 Seriously; such is the incredibly wide range of colours and patterns offered by the tweed jacket that every elegant gentleman could/should have, at least, three tweed jackets in his wardrobe. PS: Never wear them with jeans! In fact, NEVER wear jeans! 😁

Just got my brown tweed jacket last night and I totally dig it. Great with Chuck Taylor's, jeans and a T-shirt or brogues, proper trousers, shirt and tie.

Wow! You are 100% correct about tweed jackets etc. About a year ago I brought a Harris Tweed jacket from an op-hop here in Te Kuitu New Zealand for a very low price $5.00 (£2.50 UK). And there's no holes except where the holes should be i.e. button holes. There's no pilling, keeps me very warm in winter sometime I sweat, it is that great keeping my heat in! Rain? What rain? My Harris Tweed jacket is like a force field when it comes to rain and cold!
If anyone wishes to buy one (spring/summer time good to buy as will be on special (end-of-season) I highly recoomend all chaps, gentlemen (upcoming) to buy one today!
The one piece of tweed I would love to own is a waistcoat or three piece tweed suit!

Tweed is awesome- a true forcefield against all elements. It’s the best thing about autumn in Europe’s, time to break out the tweed!!

Tweed is cool! I live in the tropics so no tweed for me sadly. I miss your "studio".

In case some viewers are still not convinced: browsing through the online shops of mills such as Fox Brothers ("the merchant fox") has been a stunning experience for me. Such a variety of tasteful yet vibrant patterns and colours... Since many of their offerings are based on historic designs from the Fox Brothers' archives, one can easily get a feeling for the intense vividness of tweeds worn a hundred years ago.
    Thanks for the video, Ash!

I love Merchant Fox and they are only situated about 30 miles from my home, but their prices are fierce!

@@TheChapsGuide weaving cloth exclusively in Britain comes at a cost, that's true. However, if one is inclined to commission just one fine piece made of tweed, it's a justifiable investment, I think. BTW: Their CEO Douglas Cordeaux is one of the best dressed chaps around.

Tweed seems to be the unofficial material of choice for archaeologists and I am always looking for little accessories or ways I can wear my jacket with different outfits. It definitely sees much more use than my business suit.
