In light of accounts that have come forth from the ARMS community about the player Gore Magala, we want to make it clear that we do not support or condone the alleged behavior of this individual and wish the best for all affected parties.
Arms is a very fun game, but it kinda stood always in the shadow of Splatoon, a game way more supported than Arms. Think Nintendo just was not ready for ESports, but when you see Smash and Splatoon... Btw a Splatoon 2 Video would be very cool.
It’s simply the lack of content that makes ARMS unappealing to casuals. If nobody but the pros like the game nobody will care about it having tournaments and nobody will join the community.
I think Smash could become the greatest fighting esport and even one of the best esport game in general if Nintendo would make stuff easier for their players
Not to mention that arms was just dismissed. Despite selling decently, the userbase wasnt interested in competitive play and nintendo saw that and decided what good is it to aggressively push a game competitively if no one is interested.
Arms 2 sounds really nice, and could be what the ARMS scene really needs. Though im not sure what new features they could add. New gamemodes, longer story mode. Id of course say 2-5 new characters, but im not even sure how they would fit that many new ones in, the lineup they have is original and unique enough.
@@pauldeddens5349 Maybe more mechanics/options in combat. I get that's what the different ARMS are for, but maybe including at least two different punching styles added as secondary attacks besides the normal forward assault. Maybe like adding a close-range uppercut or a more intentional hook where you actually throw your arm from a 90 degree angle. I remember being in the communities online when the competitive scene was more populated, and I always heard people saying that watching the gameplay was boring. Adding more mechanics into the combat might work to bring in more competitive players.
Dude the game was only fun for the 1st week then it just felt boring. And clearly Nintendo realizes this as they now abandoned it. And if they made a 2nd one literally no one would play it since its a Nintendo switch exclusive and were getting the 2 giant consoles which will dominate for the next years. But if Nintendo decided to make a deal with Sony or Microsoft or even steam I think the game would genuinely do well as the game is limited to a very small group of people and 99% of switch users like smash more since they have it on switch the other platforms don't have it so I think it'd be a good opertunity. But they're competitors and I doubt they'd do a partner ship if they don't they won't launch it since it wasn't very successful
I think Nintendo should have pushed this game more. Had we got an arms rep when smash bros first started people would have probably become more attached to the series maybe.
The series has a great potential but the first game was not fun at all. If they make a second game using this series with a different and more fun gameplay it could honestly grow big.
Imagine believing his clickbait that it failed. Thats why small children shouldnt use the internet you can just be indocrinated into whatever you read because you can't reason things by yourself like how you fell for a flat out lie just now.
SgtCarson The game is great it’s so fun and more than “just grab” it has customizable attacks like things that cover your screen, projectiles, stuns, and so much more the Grand Prix isn’t even bad and if you got sick of the before playing it online then you’re just playing it wrong, I’m more than happy that we’re finally getting on of these fighters in Smash bros
Mark Morales Why don’t you give it a chance? It’s a pretty decent game. and please, don’t use twitch emotes on yt unless it’s like xQc’s channel, you’re just embarrassing yourself
I feel that I was drawn to ARMS mainly because of the unique and ingenious character designs. Basing their arms off of objects that are seemingly extendable was simply brilliant!! I don’t know if anyone else feels the same way, but that’s just me.
nah, same here! Every fighter is instantly recognizable, and they each have so much charm! I'm really glad that we're finally getting one of them in smash, and minmin was a good choice.
Same! I became engrossed in ARMS’s art and lore. The characters are all interesting and wonderfully designed and it had such a interesting lore going on in the background.
Wiziliz i’ve always occasionally watched snippets and clips of esports of Smash, and I once watched a bit of a Japanese tournament with top players of the time and was blown away. I really hope there’s a sequel soon that will breathe new life into the franchise, since Smash & Min Min already have by that existing!!!?!?!
ARMS is an incredible game and I can't thank you enough for preparing this community retrospective for its third-year anniversary. I'll be looking forward to playing in many tournaments to come until I can hone my skills enough to be the best in the world. The player I am focused on defeating now is Asqew, the best Min min player in the world.
muffin time i’m kinda in the middle- it has an *amazing* soundtrack, and characters, but not as-addicting-as-I-wanted gameplay and a tedious system for getting new Arms. All and all, it *REALLY* should be $40 instead of $60. You know Nintendo’s being greedy when ARMS cost the same amount as Smash, when it’s a 2 and 1/2 year old game that doesn’t have a huge legacy, or 69/70 unique base roster characters (70 including Piranha Plant).
I have never played arms, but i'm a smash player, and the concept of min min's playstyle is genius to me (shit recovery lol) and after seeing some gameplay, I'm legit interested in playing the game. The power of Smash Bros I guess
I wish they gave the characters unique supers instead of "flurry of punches". It would have probably made their personalities shine through more, made the fights more diverse, and would have been easier to control.
"I don't wanna bring my own switch"..... a console designed as a handheld portable platform thats like the size of a tablet. People bring bigger and heavier and more expensive arcade sticks to lan events.
any time i've seen tournaments using switches for e.g. smash, they're all set up beforehand and secured with zipties, no one uses ones they're bringing in
I remember playing arms during the free week they did after the smash announcement. Beat arcade mode on max difficulty and felt the game was fun, but it really had too little content to buy it at full price, if it was a 20usd game, it will be amazing. Would totally be in if they did a sequel though.
I think it should definitely be $40 at the most. Nintendo’s just too greedy- more people would play a really awesome game if it cost $40 or less. :/ You’re right- it just doesn’t have enough content to warrant the full 1st party game price tag, especially when you could buy Smash or Splatoon 2 and get more out of Nintendo’s mediocre paid online service.
That's always Nintendo's problem. They sell everything at 60$. Like Arms might be fun but to price it at the same price as Breath of the Wild for example? Come on.
That's probably one of Nintendos biggest issues all around. They really need to understand how to price games better, especially since they effectively stay the same price for 4 years, until they drop 10-20 dollars, and by then most of the community for the game is already dead, or a objectively better sequel has launched.
It is much closer to a $40 game now with all the added content- Nintendo pretty much doubled the character roster and stages. Unfortunately it was all added too late. The game really needs a story/adventure mode for it to be better and it just wasn't there
Have you played ARMS before? Despite being one of the best selling titles on the Nintendo Switch, there hasn't been much support or upkeep from Nintendo to help keep the competitive scene growing.
ARMS esports is what Smash bros would've looked like if the Smash community didn't have decades of grassroots history and competitive community support to keep it alive. RIP ARMS.
I always felt like everyone's opinion about Arms was "it's really good, but it doesn't last long". Apparently that's not the case. I'm glad that people actually care about it. :)
@@skyvenger7724 I'm confident that Origami King will sell even less than Color Splash based on the sole fact that the developers were smart asses and made "turn based combat" a literal turning wheel. I wonder when the Paper Mario fanboys will realize it's been 16 years since Paper Mario was good.
@@jacobasnodgrass5853 paper mario has pretty much become a testing ground for obscure and more unorthodox styles of rpgs for Nintendo since sticker star. Which I guess falls in line with how Nintendo tries to break the mold with games like Splatoon and ARMS.
I never stopped loving the game, but going into that “dark age,” as the community shrunk, you could feel the tension rising, and the whole atmosphere became way more toxic. These two examples are really what did it for me. •The owner of one of the biggest Discord servers is so committed to her “family friendly” brand, she’ll threaten to cut ties with any player or server that doesn’t uphold that image 24/7. •Recently, the most prominent TO (a white woman) completely banned a black player from entering all her future tournaments because he made a joke she decided was racist. (how very ironic) But I do miss “the good old days” so much. My hope is that if the community is revitalized, those toxic people get drowned out by the flood of welcoming new and returning players. See you in Arms 2
I guess they just didnt feel like it was good enough for them. ARMS was like Splatoon 2s little brother. Always getting casted aside and forgot about. ARMS got alot of characters being added, And then they just stopped. I dont think they were ready to go full E-sports yet. Since smash came down the road.
Wow, thank you! These videos take a lot of time to make but seeing the positive vibes and feedback from our community is what helps keep us pushing the bar higher.
Yo. I thought this video was really well made and well researched. It represented the competitive scene really well and I appreciated the interviews with pro players giving more insight. And it was fun reliving moments from my favorite majors. I especially appreciate the section with Pega, my favorite player. It can be pretty hard to explain what makes him so special that I would watch every tournament just to see him play, when his character, Max Brass, to me is the worst part of the ARMS meta, highlights the flaws of the game's engine, and is generally unfun to play against. He's just so good and likeable that I didn't even care, lmao. I discovered you guys from the well made Lethal League Blaze video (And I think a GOATS video?) and after watching this and a couple others, I think you guys might be one of the best "eSports pop journalism" channels outs there.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such nice comment. We are happy to hear that you've been enjoying our videos as we continue to try and push the bar higher when it comes to esports content creation.
It may have failed as a tournament fighter, but it isn't quite a failure. It sold 2 million copies as of September 2018, (no updates since then) but for a console exclusive fighter, that's still pretty amazing. Street Fighter is arguably the most recognizable fighting game series of all time, and it sold only about 5 million copies as of September 2019, despite releasing on three platforms. Which evens out that per system, Arms sold about the same, or better, then the latest entry in one of the most respected fighting game series. (They both had mid 70's ratings on Metacritic for reference.)
Wasn't that a lot of sales and hype around the time of the launch of the Switch itself and heavy marketing as it was one of the first Switch titles? The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a game people love and still talk about being great, but I'm willing to bet people who bought ARMS aren't as passionate about it or excited to go home play it as it was terrible in a balanced competitive way meaning it's longevity for a given player is limited at best especially when developer support gets cut.
To add to what adc rengar said, Street fighter 5 isn't really seen as a success either. It was only seen as a failure for most and is only kept alive by the competitive community. I doubt arms 2 will sell anything near what the first game did. Considering how fast the sequel is coming out I also doubt that it will be a game of quality.
First 2 million for a launch title is good but a lot of launch titles sell very well. Also street fighter 5 was only on ps4 and windows, along with it having horrible reception it still sold 5 million which is saying something especially since it wasn’t a launch title. If arms came out a year or two later I doubt it would have sold 2 million.
I remember when arms first released I just didn’t know enough about the game to buy it and when they had the free week of the game I played it and realized “oh this game is super good I wish I had this game when it was still getting updates” and now It’s getting minmin in smash and I just want more arms
What is it with Nintendo not supporting competitive modes in their games? Why neglect such a huge portion of the community and ultimately push people away from your game or even company
IMO it's all about branding and what Nintendo's perception of what "fun" ultimately is. They want to brand themselves as a family friendly company that mainly focuses on developing games meant to be enjoyed casually. I don't think Nintendo perceives "skill based competition" as being fun, because it doesn't benefit everyone equally. And you can understand that stance if you break down how competition works; in a competitive environment they'll be winners and losers, determined by the ability and disposability to foster skill. There are less people that have the necessary criteria to develop "skill" by virtue of the number of factors involved than those that don't. That's why a game's competitive scene will always be a comparatively small sample of it's general population. Time, patience, determination, ability, among other things, are resources not equally available, hence after a while the gap between the skillful players and those that aren't will widen, and the winners will be consistently a smaller niche group, compared to the losers. Being consistently a loser is not "fun" through Nintendo's eyes, which is why they don't actively support "skill based" competition.
@@TheSoldadoDan Interesting theory, but you make it sound like Nintendo dislikes the sheer idea of losing or difficulty. Which doesn't add up with any of their games (See Pokemon as a prime example).
Thank you so much! We have some more in the works and appreciate everyone's patience as the research and editing for these do take a fair amount of time.
Arms was a lot of fun - I enjoyed playing it online and from a casual players perspective it wasn't hard to understand the nuance between characters and arm combinations. If Nintendo is to support a sequel more long term then it probably needs a more robust single player experience like smash and splatoon have. If casuals aren't playing Nintendo's games, then Nintendo more or less ceases to support it - for obvious economic reasons
"There's a mentality that if you stray outside the box of traditional 2D or 3D fighters, your game doesn't belong." It doesn't help that almost all of those arena fighters are absolutely awful.
Very well done! I remember being part of those discussions on its validity as a fighting game among my friend group and had a good time with it. Didn't go into tournaments or anything so seeing a brief history of the community was very interesting. I mained mechanica along with min min so im glad to see her in smash and the franchise getting the love and attention it deserves. and yes a sequel would be much appreciated.
Wow I really admired Sol's mac back in the day! Honestly such a cool guy, I'd check out his streams. The variety of his games played and his personally are quite fun.
Arms is in the same vein as Skullgirls and Lethal League. A fighting game with a beautiful art direction, godly music, fantastic characters and stages, a mountain of lore, and tight and unique controls. Yet, no matter how hard they tried, no matter how much it deserved it, it could not find an audience larger then a few devoted fans.
Awesome video! Thanks so much for having me on to chat about ARMS and the scene's amazing journey. Here's hoping to Nintendo making ARMS 2 something really special. I'll be eagerly awaiting! - RESOLVE
Ngl, I think I like using *motion controls* more, just because you feel more _involved_ with the fight _itself._ No doubt it'd probably be hilarious to see that one player in _competitive_ using it, and probably discouraged just since everyone is _expected_ to just be seated in front of the screen.
I got an unbelievable amount of chills at 17:20 when I heard until. I'm so happy that ARMS got a rep in Smash, and I really hope it leads to many more competitive players. Thanks so much for making this video, especially since I was really wondering if anybody still cared about ARMS.
You touched on Splatoon for a bit when talking about E3, and I would love to see a video on it. As someone invested in its competitive community for 5 years, it would be awesome to see it!
It was one of the first games people got when buying a Switch along with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild but the latter was infinitely better than the former.
18:00 No way, that's me crouching there in the bottom right! This was at 2GG: Hyrule Saga, where I place 17th in ARMS. It feels like I am in ARMS history now!
@@manligi9701 ... what is something that happens with a most of games in this industry. A success of a game is mainly based on its sales. If it sells well enough, it is a success, even if people stop playing after a while.
When I seen this character had been announced for smash, I had zero idea this game even existed. I think that says quite a bit about what Nintendo thought about/did to support it
Awesome coverage! 2018 was fun, although as player from South East Asia, the community here is even smaller, even when considering the Oceania (who we got matched up in ranked). But it still bring me joy playing ARMS and watching the competitive scene unfolds in other part of the world. We do try to keep some competitive scene alives somewhat in this part of the world. I even tried organizing some online tournament, but nevertheless, is never easy and not many turn around. Of course, as time went on, most people moved on, including me. I still fired up the game from time to time though. And I'm so happy to see Min Min (my main) in Smash. :)
Also as a brand, it has flopped over the years while The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Smash Ultimate are still going strong as relevant and beloved titles. Most people bought ARMS when they Switch came out because it looked cool, but that didn't last long.
I wouldn’t say that at all. It’s just a niche style of game. It has its audience. I for one have over 1,500 Hours in ARMS. I make ARMS Tech Videos, So I Lab. There’s a LOT to learn if you actually want to get good at ARMS. -Insta-Countering (Guard-Canceling) -Ducking under punches -Chip Damage to Shield Break -Weaken opponent’s Arms to break their shield easier, or deactivating their Arms -Farming Rush -Whiff Grab Tech -Boxing (Clashing Arms) -1-2-3 Hit Combos -Teleport Dashing -EMP Waves -Shockwave Deflects -Short Dashes/Hops vs Long Dashes -Dragon Cancels and Dragon Pokes -The width between the shoulders of the characters being different, so you need different curvature with your Arms -Healing Mind Games -Invisibility Mind Games -Pillar Mind Games -Misango Totem Mind Games -Actress Aura (Slowing down Punches) -Distance coming into play -Extension Speed vs Retraction Speed -Rush Deflecting -Arm Weight Classes -Arm Weight Classes in Rush Mode being different from in Normal Play -Knowing when to Rush, and when not to Rush. -Arm Girth Differences between Characters -Yabuki Combos (Bouncing off Trampolines into Rush) -Widening Grabs by have Arms with different Homing Attributes on each Arm -Chaining -Confirming -Rush confirms -Barq confirms -Explosion confirms -Elevation Tricks and Manipulation -The thousands of different Arm and Fighter Combinations you’d have to learn how to counter -I could keep going. ARMS is like a Chess Tournament. Some may not find it very interesting. But if you have knowledge of the game, and know what it takes to actually win? It can get REALLY Intense. There are many Competitive online ARMS Tournaments hosted to this day. It doesn’t fail at all to be a Competitive game, especially once you learn how it’s played.
Solid video. I had played Arms for quite a long while during it's time it was having updates. My main personal concerns at the time was that the game had too much health for the general match-up and the length for each round. I felt like if every fighter had 750 health, there'd be fewer time-outs and just enough punches, grabs & rush-attacks to not feel uninteresting to the spectators, but that's just me. I cannot wait to see who the rep is going to be for Smash this Month.
I just recently joined the competitive scene for ARMS (or what's left of it at least), it was nice getting to see sime of my friends and companions in their prime. Back in 2017/18 i was too scared to join online competitions and would just be amazed when I would hear of the achievements of those seemingly unpassable monsters of Rank 20...and later completely decimated by them when matchmaking decided to test my resolve to get good at the game. I took a long break for pretty much all of 2019, rarely opening the game at parties but no one wanted to play with me anyways, it made me feel sad and alone. Towards the beginning of this year a random spark of inspiration mafe me seek out the ARMS community, and I stumbled upon casualARMS in what might have been one of the happiest days in my history of olaying games; I got to talk to people I remembered having amazing fights against back when Ranked was THE mode, I got to play this game and share some nice memories with my new friends, I got to get better-I got to have the most fun I've ever had playing this game that I love! ARMS is far from perfect, and it still hurts that it felt as if Nintendo had left it to die. However ARMS is not dead, we may be few and very far apart, but us ARMS players truly love this game with a passion hotter than Brass's Roasters and more stupidly large than a Ramram's hitbox. I genuinely screamed and teared up when I saw the 2020 NA Open being announced, and felt extremely proud of making it all the way to Quarters in my bracket, hell I felt proud to see that someone from my bracket won the entire thing (GGs to Astro)! If anyone reading this is thinking of getting this game, don't let the voices saying the game sucks and is dead deceit you. We're here, and our community welcomes everyone with open ARMS (hehe). Come play with us! Hope to fight you later, and if not, there's always the sequel ;) Thanks for reading ~ Lachesism&c.#7384
I love ARMS. I has this intensity that I just can't get enough of. It's really brilliant in a way. They wanted to create a behind-the-back 3D fighting game, but the problem was judging distance. So instead the developers made combat happen at a distance, an put the skill around your ability to move around the arena. In that sense, ARMS really emphasizes the "3D" nature of it's combat similar to how Smash emphasize the platforming aspect.
Nintendo really are missing a trick by not supporting games and nurturing them into true eSports. Splatoon, Smash Bros, ARMS, even Mario Kart 8. They could all be "ESPN Grade" eSports, in my opinion. And Nintendo would earn a fortune from doing it, but sadly they're out of touch and they desperately need to improve the Nintendo Online experience, which they clearly have no interest in doing. They want to focus on their games being casual, family friendly and accessible. They don't realise you can have both at once. Just take a look at the Pokémon series. Little kids can play Pokémon casually, but there are also huge tournaments hosted every year with massive prize pools and even scholarships.
So I just gotta say, everything about ARMS and the fact that it came from Nintendo really gives me all the more love for it. I’ve been a Nintendo fan since I could pick up a controller and the iconic franchises they’ve made have been amazing. But the fact that they went out of their way to make something brand new, without plastering Mario’s face on it anywhere, and it still being so good gives me a lot of excitement and optimism that new ideas are still able to be great. Like said in the video, it’s really simple but hard to master. I’ve got little to no criticism for this game. It’s really fun to play with friends and solo. They even went out of their way to give an in depth lore of the ARMS world as a reward for winning matches. And the possibility of a sequel coming out would be fantastic and I would get it immediately:) thanks for the vid!
I feel like arms could have had a better competing lifespan if there was more casual appeal. There wasn’t much to keep a new player in, with the low amount of party modes and the small roster. The game is fun, but there was no reason for a casual player to want to explore the game’s depth because there wasn’t much content that kept casuals interested. I think at least a good story mode would be nice. Also, this is just a personal nitpick, but maybe there should be higher damage to prevent most rounds from going to timeout. Also, about what you said for smash being competitive because it’s popular, I have to disagree. The Budokai and Ninja Storm games weren’t competitive because they didn’t have any depth, not because they weren’t as popular as smash. There was nothing to discover, and you could rarely outsmart your opponent. Smash, other platform fighters, and traditional fighting games allow you to express yourself in way that arena fighters just don’t allow.
I agree unless you were deep into it and you knew high level tricks the game became boring. I'm not an adictive personality so outside of casual fun I don't care about spending 500 hours in becoming high and mighty.
Arms was definitely an interesting idea I always wish there was more to it If Nintendo kept adding on to the game and made a arms 2 or something that would be cool
HESS was my roommate and a real stand-up fellow. Always felt this game deserved more support. He grinded hard at it and had a great time but Nintendo just doesn't understand gaming culture ironically. And with their hatred for the Melee community and all... Nintendo is frustrating me more and more.
It's honestly sad to see a game die after being an amazing hit. Look at splatoon. It was amazing But after the final splatfest, It died. Also it was on the Wii U So, it died with the Wii u
And.... that Min Min reveal Smash trailer is how i really like ARMS..... and made me really adore and love Min Min... i mean i really want to see her again in another ARMS game but... now im not so sure 😔😔😔😔😔😔😔
It must be nice to be part of most fighting game community, i almost never play fighting game but i loved it the only fighting game i played for a long time is streetfighter x Tekken for only 1 year
I was one of the players in some of those pictures from the Socal Arms scene & I've continued to use motion controls competitively to this day. Not unviable in tournament at all. They both have pros and cons.
ARMS is so great, I enjoyed this video a lot, thanks for making it. I do handheld mode mostly. Glad I'm not the only one who sees Max Brass as All Might.
For me, more non combat modes and connectivity between modes (Tekken's individual story modes, Smash's Space Emissary) would help immensely in a sequel. Also some kind of deeper dive into the characters and the Arms world in general

Nintendo tends to support games more in Japan, this is common with Splatoon as well though splatoon is way bigger in japan then the west. I felt like in comparison to Splatoon and Smash in which Nintendo showed continued support and more online events they seemed to give up on arms completly, which is really disapointing, I hope it gets more attention and hopefully a sequal and its own series of Nintendo Opens it could end up becoming good esport with time.
has Nintendo acknowledged the esports scene for Smash yet beyond just a controller as a prize? They're a joke of a company when it comes to understanding esports.

It just sends a message of not caring about the game at all, they could do more for all their games I agree.
If theres a sequel id love to have a story mode/Campaign I always wanted to know the story of the ARMS Universe it seems epic, it be cool if the story was like those old wwe games where you do tournaments and get better gear and water lol, thats literally all i want from ARMS

Today I learned that ARMS e-sports was a thing.
Competitive ARMS is fucking awesome and I hope a future ARMS 2 lasts longer.
ARMS should be at the online EVO event. Lagless online and very competitive.
It looks exciting
Wiziliz i’ve always occasionally watched snippets and clips of esports of Smash, and I once watched a bit of a Japanese tournament with top players of the time and was blown away.
I really hope there’s a sequel soon that will breathe new life into the franchise, since Smash & Min Min already have by that existing!!!?!?!
And hopefully continues to be a thing
ARMS is an incredible game and I can't thank you enough for preparing this community retrospective for its third-year anniversary. I'll be looking forward to playing in many tournaments to come until I can hone my skills enough to be the best in the world. The player I am focused on defeating now is Asqew, the best Min min player in the world.
Our pleasure! Glad to hear that you enjoyed this video.
ARMS is really a great game, really underrated
I agree!
Idk its not apeeling to everyone i found it get boring fast i think its onoy for certain people
muffin time i’m kinda in the middle- it has an *amazing* soundtrack, and characters, but not as-addicting-as-I-wanted gameplay and a tedious system for getting new Arms. All and all, it *REALLY* should be $40 instead of $60. You know Nintendo’s being greedy when ARMS cost the same amount as Smash, when it’s a 2 and 1/2 year old game that doesn’t have a huge legacy, or 69/70 unique base roster characters (70 including Piranha Plant).
muffin time That’s how many Fighting / Sports games are. Sometimes it’s an acquired taste.
Same I just got the game and there's really nothing to diversify them by but their looks lol, if they had their own distinct movesets it'd be tubular

@@YoshiiElAttar It's always looked like a good party game.
You’re right- it just doesn’t have enough content to warrant the full 1st party game price tag, especially when you could buy Smash or Splatoon 2 and get more out of Nintendo’s mediocre paid online service.
The game really needs a story/adventure mode for it to be better and it just wasn't there
that free week didnt give you all the game modes and stuff so i wouldn't really judge it on the stuff you could do during the free weak
Have you played ARMS before? Despite being one of the best selling titles on the Nintendo Switch, there hasn't been much support or upkeep from Nintendo to help keep the competitive scene growing.
It’s one of my favorites!
ARMS esports is what Smash bros would've looked like if the Smash community didn't have decades of grassroots history and competitive community support to keep it alive. RIP ARMS.

(how very ironic)
But I do miss “the good old days” so much.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
is a game people love and still talk about being great, but I'm willing to bet people who bought ARMS aren't as passionate about it or excited to go home play it as it was terrible in a balanced competitive way meaning it's longevity for a given player is limited at best especially when developer support gets cut.

What is it with Nintendo not supporting competitive modes in their games? Why neglect such a huge portion of the community and ultimately push people away from your game or even company
Because it pushes more casual players away
ben ryans right, nintendo makes most of its money off of casuals

Had a good feeling this video would get a boost in views shortly after Min Min's reveal.

Arms is in the same vein as Skullgirls and Lethal League. A fighting game with a beautiful art direction, godly music, fantastic characters and stages, a mountain of lore, and tight and unique controls. Ngl, I think I like using *motion controls* more, just because you feel more _involved_ with the fight _itself._ No doubt it'd probably be hilarious to see that one player in _competitive_ using it, and probably discouraged just since everyone is _expected_ to just be seated in front of the screen.

What yall talking about I love ARMS its fun to play online
Hope to fight you later, and if not, there's always the sequel ;)
Thanks for reading

Seeing this game again reminds me of Etika 😢. He was so excited for this on telease
You should do MvC next. They haven't got a lot of support recently but the community is still super strong. Great video got my sub!

HESS was my roommate and a real stand-up fellow. Always felt this game deserved more support. He grinded hard at it and had a great time but Nintendo just doesn't understand gaming culture ironically. And with their hatred for the Melee community and all... Nintendo is frustrating me more and more.

Don't act like Nintendo participates in any esports they just started giving smash a little bit of attention
For me, more non combat modes and connectivity between modes (Tekken's individual story modes, Smash's Space Emissary) would help immensely in a sequel. Also some kind of deeper dive into the characters and the Arms world in general
The Japanese scene is better, tell me some thing new
Well in smash ultimate the North American scene definitely has the better players so it ain't true for everything
@@darciheadswillroll now thinking about it, the japanese people that i know (in japan cause thats where my family is from) a lot more people saw smash bros as more casual game.
@@squidsona8509 I can see that because of the input delay and loss of all the tech skill tbh I hope maybe a mod after the support is done will fix it
Their scene has more variety, That's for sure
Great video. I had totally forgot about this game but I kinda want to watch old tourney vids now
It's a failed fighting game!?
Hah I love it!!
Why isn't ARMS are EVO then?
It's actually been at Evo Japan since 2018 I believe
Edit: They literally mentioned in this very video that it was at EVO US as well...
This was really in depth. Good on you guys!
Why do people still say "Ha-Doe-Can"? Ryu, Akuma, and Ken say "Ha-Do-Ken". Its just annoying
I did NOT expect this video to be so high quality. I was expecting you to say everything that went wrong with it and why it sucked but I was really pleasantly surprised :)
What hurt ARMS the most was the price, it's still $60 with no updates in 2 years.
@@adcrengar9877 Nintendo has issues with esports I agree my point here is more they did something with smash and at least run/promote events (same for splatoon) but they pretend arms doesn't exist, even mario kart 8 deluxe got an open this summer but nothing for arms.
I actually got to meet Gore Magala recently on my stream. When the ARMS character had been announced for Smash I got to speak to him when we were playing. Hes a cool guy, I got to invite him to my Discord and stuff.
Arms from Senegal 🇸🇳 my fav game forever 💪🏻❤️🫶🏻
As someone who's been a fan since ARMS' beginning. I got a little emotional when you got to the smash announcement. You could really feel the people coming back and checking it out after that direct. The subreddit that day was up 600% from normal traffic.
Finally somebody's giving some credit to this amazing game!
Yes! Definitely underrated!
I didn't really cared for Arms until the 7-day trial, then I got hooked! I wasn't as invested when Splatoon 2 got the same threatement a few weeks later.
Please do more of this explained videos theyre so good
