As someone who stopped playing ARMS years ago, hearing that Actress Aura is, in fact, just as broken as it felt when fighting it healed my soul a little bit.
Part of what I love about ARMS is that boiling it down to, essentially, two normals, two EX normals, a super and a grab shifts a lot of focus away from micro-level execution and toward mixups. It's a very easy game to learn, with a truly incredible amount of depth in the one part of fightan I love the most: the mindgames.
nah i did want the passive in smash; wouldve been really different compared to everything smash currently has (and thats what i wanted), although there is a chance it would just be a counter like witch time there are other characters who i wouldve liked too for the same reason (if not more); im still a little disappointed its the one of the ones i find least interesting (it was probably going to be regardless if im being completely fair)
@@CJdoesntlikehandlesYeahhh, looking at this now, as an outsider, with way more fighting game experience than when I first saw ARMS, getting free Witch Time for jumping sounds untranslatable to Smash, and I have absolutely no idea how it was ever greenlit for ARMS. Even Skullgirls, another off-beat fighter with an even more stupid power level, at least makes you work for your free combo extension slowdown, and it’s on Valentine, who besides also having an unfathomable amount of art, is also probably the third most honest character in the game
I was recommended your channel due to my video where I ranked the ARMS Fighters. Good on you for keeping ARMS going even after all this time. This game definitely deserved better!
Oh my god, I remember seeing your video way back in 2021! I plan to continue with this ARMS hype cuz im always holding out hope for a sequel even if it never happens 🫡🫡🫡
At this point it feels like it belongs to the previous gen because it was released when the Wii U was still coughing before reaching the coffin even more considering the switch 2 (hopefully) has been confirmed to share info next year
Biggest issue that killed a large part of it imo is the hellish setup required for tournaments, forcing tournament organizers to have an absurd amount of copies of Arms 100% completed, meaning every single possible arm unlocked for every single character unlocked for every single copy.
what i'm taking away from a lot of this video is that the devs really thought the electric element was too good on it's own and had to kneecap every arm with it
Pretty much yeah, outside of sparky, electric was only given to slow gimmicky ARMS so it ended up being undertuned. If you mod the game to give electric to something like skully which is the fastest arm, electric becomes the best in the game
Mmm I think Twinty made a lotta ppl salty with 2x Tbird and then it was nerfed. Because a free grab for like, Kobra or Brass was HUGE. Vs Twin or Ribbon once we shifted from default to custom ARMS It would've crippled Jara too on shield prolly. 😅
It's kinda funny, I played this game when it was free online for Smash's promotion (pretty good game!) and even in my limited experience I still remember how weird Dr. Coyle was to play against. It got to the point where when the Max Brass section started and he was specifically called "2nd best character in the game," I knew exactly who would be first lmao. Great video!
seeing this randomly get recommended reminded me of how big of a shame i feel like it is that i (and seemingly a lot of other people out there) just never really vibed with the gameplay of arms ,,, i always absolutely loved the character designs and stuff enough that min min getting added to smash made me p excited, i just never liked actually *playing* the game all that much ,,, that aside, great video! i never thought much at all about what this game's competitive scene would be like since i stopped playing it so soon after it launched, so seeing a look at what playing this game seriously actually looks like was fun hopefully they'll give it a sequel someday
Love this, based off of your channel profile, I'm guessing any other videos probably will also focus on ARMS, but you should consider doing this again for other less popular fighting games or just competitive games in general.
I was obsessed with this game for many years. I was and still am a massive fan of ARMS^^ I'm even glad to see that even after 7 years there are still people who support it^^
Very cool video, might give the game a play again! I find it very appropiate how the two most broken characters were not only a couple but also the Arcade Mode's final bosses, I love it when a character with a theme as menacing as Brass' or Coyle's is actually that strong.
Parabola has to be one of my best weapons. It surprised me, but it's done me so many favours. You do hit with it, and it serves as a surprisingly good anti-air. It is slow, however, it's easier to hit since it's automatic and it has a massive hitbox.
Thank you for starting the video with the games intro loading screen. Like i know its extremely embarrassing for me to be impressed by a loading screen, but the way it starts with the bongos and then smash cuts to the title as the rest of the drums kick in is SO hype.
Thanks for taking the time to analyze all the competitive intricacies this game had that I'd never paid attention to as a kid. Hoping the new Nintendo console gets an Arms sequel that takes everything they learned from this game to make for an even greater experience for another generation!
More people should make these types of videos for things that are niche, but they’re passionate about. This format of video is perfect for giving a baseline introduction into the competitive scene for any game
I remember playing ARMS as an NSO demo and then forgetting about it as time passed. I'm very glad that there's still a scene for it, though, it's such a shame Nintendo abandoned it so quickly
Looks like the algorithm has blessed this video. Good for you, dude! Seeing how dedicated you are to your craft I hope you see further success and, may we hope, for a better received and more balanced ARMS 2.
I'm glad i found this as i was recently getting back into playing this. Even years later i still learn something about what is easily one of my favorite nintendo game in recent years. I love ARMS (and especially Dr. Coyle)
I am looking at this game, now a wiser person about how fighting games work, and I feel like ARMS might just be end of the line for horribly built, underpatched, “just add what sounds cool” design in a fighting game, and I say that with admiration. The list of fighting games with two absurd top tiers with no real comparison to other cast mates, but also some nonsense going on in the mid tiers due to weird system mechanics, is now a list of two games; ARMS, and JoJo’s Heritage for the Future, a time gap best measured in decades. For a sense of how old, Heritage for the Future has the first puppet character in gaming. Godspeed. May your Ws be great and your ping low.
Loved how informative this video was, thanks for making it, I feel like I learned a lot I didn’t know about this game and it really got me in the mood to play arms again
Man it brings a tear to my eye (a happy one for sure) seeing people still make ARMS content. Watching this video though, I think I had NO CHANCE in that tourney I partook in, so I'm partially glad I got taken out early- Coyle or Brass mains would have chewed me the hell up. Still though, I love ARMS! It's sad that not many people give it a chance, and neither does Nintendo either, even after the headcount each party crash brought out...
Really wish this game had clicked for me. Music was great, character design was phenomenal, and I loved the silly world lore. But between needing to unlock *and* upgrade ARMS for every single fighter, having to put up with cpus in arcade mode that *definitely* read your inputs and reacted frame 1, and turtling being the online multiplayer playstyle that more often than not won interactions (I might have the wrong term here, but point is extremely defensive play seemed to be king early on)... I dropped it within a week. Really hope ARMS is given a second chance some time in the future. Some of this higher level stuff actually looks pretty fun, I'd be more than willing to try it again.
As much as I loved ARMS, my biggest gripe in the game is that we couldn't use the SR/SL buttons to switch between equipped ARMS midmatch when not throwing a punch, it would have added an extra sense of depth/strategy while also preventing rounds from feeling repetitive. Would it have been a nightmare to balance? Absolutely, but ARMS is less about being balanced and more about being a good time.
I do love how the 'final' boss character wins by outsmarting THE GAME. By far the best representation of a character's gimmick being that they cheat or use some illegal strategy.
I’ll be honest with you I had no idea Max Brass was so good back when I played arms, I just loved the beefed up dude screaming at the top of his lungs with his Haymaker grab xD
He’s an objectively better spring man, who’s already kind of a menace with the shockwaves and comeback mode. Add always active super armor on top of that and hefty sized hitboxes and you’ve got a recipe for the best character that’s not debatably a boss character like coyle
I remember a long, LONG time ago watching a video about competitive fighting games, seeing arms as one of those mentioned where the speed didn't excite commentators and spectators enough to keep the scene hyped liked Melee. What the fuck wad that dude on and why is the top level gameplay so fucking fast
The metagame and strategies were not as developed back then when all eyes were on this game, so for some it might've been slow. Once the game was out for a while, it started developing into something faster. It's no melee, but I feel like some people should check it out again now that it's optimized
I haven't played ARMS in years. I do have the game card for it, but my card reader doesn't work anymore. Either I have to repair it or get a brand new Nintendo Switch entirely and sync the data from the old one to the new one. I did play some Party Crashes, but not all of them. I should have stayed longer to get all the Kid Cobra badges, especially the one where he looked beat up. I didn't know he had the biggest arms out of the roster. I wish Nintendo would give all the badges to us for free without having to play the Party Crash events. I remember beating Level 8 Hedlok.
I LOVED this game and it's OST, and I'm so glad this ended up in my recommended! Unfortunately, I'm not great at competitive play (more of a casual player myself) and ever since a lot of the playerbase filtered to primarily true fans, I stopped playing since I had no clue how to stand my ground, nor do anything but end up pummeled on the floor in online play, hahaha. I did come back for the party crashes though, those were a great time! Fun video!
My ARMS might be broken, but my heart is full. I love ARMS so much as a concept, and despite all of its bullshit, it had such incredible aesthetics and premise. I hope it lives on in the minds of others and that we get a second chance at returning to its world, characters, and mechanics. So glad to have watched this video!
I got aome crazy flashbacks with the Coyle and Max Brass. But glad to see that Kid Cobra is only broken with ARM Girth and that ARM loadout. There was alsl supposed to be an ARMS comic, wonder if that ever released
10:34 "I can't believe people want this in Smash." Bayonetta: You are already dead. (Takes you to the damn sun) Slow down abilities in general need a nerf on how slow the opponent is. Like even a 15% movement nerf combined with already existing endlag is a lot, then these games give you 400% of it. 😵💫
See here's another misinterpretation of it. Bayo slows YOU down entirely on hit. Twin only slows down the arm/s in her range, and only up to the peak of the wave. That's why explosion and dragon beam ARMS with their own timing bear it. Clapper is nice too on double hit if they shield or wait and it's quick. You, iirc, can still move or parry with something if you keep an arm free... Like Chilla in reverse. You can move but your ARMS move slower while affected by aura. Vs ice effect on hit, opp can't move body but can atk or parry/defend with ARMS.
E.G. in smash Ultimate Zelda vs Bayo, if Bayo WT a Phantom, Zelda can't move much as everything slows and Bayo gets a nice punish. In ARMS if you throw a punch, Twin has to move into it and it only affects the punch up to the climax/peak of aura then ebbs back to normal. If you throw another arm well timed you can trap her. Say it's tribolt and Roaster cooking you swing the explosive, she aura's realizes she has to get out or escape the blast, that's when you can pop her with Roaster down her escape route for 140dmg.
Even though I haven’t played this game in a long time, I still love it and it’s still one of my favorite switch games! It may not be insanely popular but at least we got people like Coney and Vikkikitty (i think) to represent it! Edit: Oh, and you of course! I didn’t realize you played it professionally till now cause I _just_ found your channel. My bad 😅
There are two characters with the alternate boss jingle for their arcade intro. Hedlok, a character engineered to be broken and only playable in a side mode where you fight over possession of him. And Dr. Coyle.
I used Glusher right hand on Helix because when you fire off a grab from tower mode. Glusher would bounce off the ground, creating an awkward diagonal grab tether. Idk if it still works nowadays but it was always a funny mix up. Also swatting air float spam Twintelle out of the air with the coolerangs was always a blast.
"Gloves are hands down the strongest weapon class in the game" Let's go! I never got into the meta but I loved using both of the electric gloves. Glad to hear they're super good. "All except for Sparky, its far too weak compared to the other gloves" Oh... ok... 😭
I've not seen this game in years. It was a really really fun party gane where we got together and played the game. (MinMin was my main, the dragon arm was super cool) Now I think it has a lot of potential that Nintendo kinda dropped the ball on. If they finetune this game around the same level as Splatoon 3 or Ultimate, then we would have an amazing game here.
To be honest, I always wanted Dr Coyle as the Smash character. She wouldve easily been the most unique character in the game. Imagine she had Peach float but could shield during float? And if she shields she could turn invisible like the cloaking device item in previous Smash games? That wouldve been crazy. Make the third arm only come out if you successfuly dodge a move (roll, airdodge, etc). Reward defensive play. Would've been really unique for Ultimate since its much more aggressive.
I used to play the shit out of this, it's really cool that there's a scene. If nothing else this video reminded me how fire of a soundtrack this game has
So, what is it that makes the sparkies worse than the other gloves? I found a couple tier lists a long time ago, saying they were the best in the game (and that twintelle and ribbon girl were the top 2 fighters)
Sucks that the heavy ARMS like the Megawatt are high risk, low reward because I always equip Min Min with the Megawatt alongside her Dragon and Ramram.
We at least have to give arms credit for making the playable boss characters strong in the competitive scene. Unlike how other makes make them so much weaker for game balance.
Honestly the amount of times this game has been discounted could (probably) be counted on one hand I’d recommend it to more people if it was at max 40 bucks.
Awesome video, really appreciate it 😁👍 ARMS deserved better! Hmm 🤔 woulda been cool to see Lola Pop tech, mostly as the defensive foil to Helix towering in a sense. The customs all unlocked via tourney mode was a needed patch released a tad late sadly. As a Twin main who's had my fair share of bouts vs Nobi, HESS and the like, yes Aura is busted like Star Platinum 💯. But if translated to smash it'd be nerfed easily to a weaker witch time prolly. The Aura works ... Only works iirc, when BOTH hands are free. So if she's punching or shielding, no aura, on landing its a micro charge which is just something everyone gets but only abilities (like shockwave and aura) proc on landing, shockwave being more intrusive imo, and worse for smash. Charge an atk = shockwave 😅😅😅 Plus perma charge in comeback mode... Nah. 😅 My final point on her aura, as I've said before, is that its best to visualize it as a wave. ^ starts with not much pull or slow down -> builds up as it hits peak. Then falls out again as she moves away from it. Explosion and dragon arm beams are unaffected by aura too. Shockwave blocks those though lol 😅.
I think after watching this video I have realized something: I have been too hard on this game. I thought it was a forgotten game that only got known because of Min Min in Smash Ultimate. This video has proven me wrong. The fact that it has an actual competitive scene and a much more complex understanding to fundamentals amazes me. I’m sorry Arms fans that I didn’t give your game enough love. It deserves it after this video!
Yes, I think it was an amazing game. I put a few hundred hours into it but I kind of feel I missed a chunk of it because I was a dedicated toasters only Spring Man player and didn't use the other weapons much 😅 If there is one thing I hope to see in an ARMs 2, it would probably just be to lean more in the direction of Custom Robo which had more attack options than just the basic attack. Combat was incredibly fun in ARMs but my personal opinion is it needed more damage options during combat outside of punches as it would probably help to level the playing field a bit against the more powerful or evasive abilities.
Lmao arms is broken sure but thats why I love it. Taking advantage of the broken shit is fun, tower helix is great 😈
Same here, the wacky shit adds to my experience
Springtron whatever his name is was toxic online lmao

Say it's tribolt and Roaster cooking you swing the explosive, she aura's realizes she has to get out or escape the blast, that's when you can pop her with Roaster down her escape route for 140dmg.
Even though I haven’t played this game in a long time, I still love it and it’s still one of my favorite switch games! It may not be insanely popular but at least we got people like Coney and Vikkikitty (i think) to represent it!
Edit: Oh, and you of course! I didn’t realize you played it professionally till now cause I _just_ found your channel. My bad 😅
This video was really interesting ngl
I like looking at other games broken mechanic
7:05 this is why kid cobra was so good lmao, I had no idea and I mained him 😅
Just wait until Legs.
"Gloves are hands down the strongest weapon class in the game"
Let's go! I never got into the meta but I loved using both of the electric gloves. Glad to hear they're super good.
"All except for Sparky, its far too weak compared to the other gloves"
Oh... ok... 😭
Knees weak, palms are heavy.
ARMS are heavy
Man it's been a while since I played ARMS. Honestly, I should go back! It was a fun exercise game.
RUclips recommending a 10 months old voiceless video of a game that despite me liking is no longer relevant? I have to make a wish
finally someone made this
Even if the heavyweights are slow, I always loved half-blorb for making really wide grabs and high damage rushes lol
I've not seen this game in years. It was a really really fun party gane where we got together and played the game. (MinMin was my main, the dragon arm was super cool)
Now I think it has a lot of potential that Nintendo kinda dropped the ball on. If they finetune this game around the same level as Splatoon 3 or Ultimate, then we would have an amazing game here.
I find it funny that the grand champ is the second best character, while the one who absolutely decimated him is the best character
holyy arms content?? wish yt recommended me this earlier
5:33 BLORB!
"im gonna need more then just a hand"
Video titel is what i say to doctor after i did not payed my depts to mafia.
I used to play the shit out of this, it's really cool that there's a scene. If nothing else this video reminded me how fire of a soundtrack this game has
15:33 it’s fun because of its shortcomings
So, what is it that makes the sparkies worse than the other gloves? I found a couple tier lists a long time ago, saying they were the best in the game (and that twintelle and ribbon girl were the top 2 fighters)
Great video, but in a lot of sections the text goes away way too fast to read and I have to go back and pause
Sorry to hear man. hope your LEGS are fine.
Sucks that the heavy ARMS like the Megawatt are high risk, low reward because I always equip Min Min with the Megawatt alongside her Dragon and Ramram.
I only remember this game just for the soundtrack.
That opening song is hard forgot🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣️
Where can I watch the Vods of the most recent tournaments?
Not many tournaments have vods these days, but I have some of my own tournaments in my vod channel www.youtube.com/@SNGSVodDump/videos
honestly surprised misango platinum isn't talked about my personal favourite character
i shall supply algorithm fuel. ARMS 2 NINTENDO WHERE IS IT
Surprised you didn’t mention Biff
Man I loved ARMS when the Switch came out!
Imagine if we got Dr. Coyle as a playable fighter in Smash
"You WILL DECIMATE lifebars with comeback mode"
Can't decimate lifebars if you still suck at the game like me, checkmate
Arms content in 2023🔥🔥🔥
6:55 My fav kid cobra big arms how?
This is a really good vide-HEY WAIT A MINUTE THAT'S ME
LMFAOOO
I’ve been wanting to get back into arms😂
We at least have to give arms credit for making the playable boss characters strong in the competitive scene. Unlike how other makes make them so much weaker for game balance.
Honestly the amount of times this game has been discounted could (probably) be counted on one hand I’d recommend it to more people if it was at max 40 bucks.
I remember trying this game for free and it was fun! Wish I played it when it first came out
Awesome video, really appreciate it 😁👍
ARMS deserved better!
Charge an atk = shockwave 😅😅😅
Plus perma charge in comeback mode... Nah. 😅
My final point on her aura, as I've said before, is that its best to visualize it as a wave.
I put a few hundred hours into it but I kind of feel I missed a chunk of it because I was a dedicated toasters only Spring Man player and didn't use the other weapons much 😅
If there is one thing I hope to see in an ARMs 2, it would probably just be to lean more in the direction of Custom Robo which had more attack options than just the basic attack. Combat was incredibly fun in ARMs but my personal opinion is it needed more damage options during combat outside of punches as it would probably help to level the playing field a bit against the more powerful or evasive abilities.
