@@Bookworm214-y3d Depending on the network you are watching it on, there is a "warning" about the racial situations and pointing out the fact that the culture represented in the movie does not represent today's culture, DUH. A similar warning is shown before certain Gilligan's Island episode that feature native "headhunters" and Polynesians and racial stereotypes.

First I saw this movie in 1964 and all my life a lot of this scenes,dialogues and of course characters are still in my mind and heart. Every time I have rather bad situation in my life I say: I will think about it tomorrow. And it is very helpful!

Vivien Leigh was an amazing actress and a beautiful woman. This is quite an iconic ending.
Read the last chapter of the book. It's vastly superior to the way it was compressed for the screen. If one page equals a minute of screen time, this scene would have taken 15-20 minutes instead of less than seven.

Actress Bette Davis wanted so badly to play the part of Scarlet OHara, and resented Vivian Leigh because of it. Actually miss Davis should of played the part because in the book of the first chapter it said Scarlet O’ Hara was not pretty. Bette Davis was not beautiful compare to Vivian Leigh.

That's not true that Bette resented Vivian... Bette's studio (Warner Bros) had optioned the book for her but she walk off in protest because the scripts offered to her were beneath her. She didn't give her bosses a chance to tell her it was Gone With The Wind that they had optioned in her behave.
(Bette has stated this fact in numerous interviews).
Bette played a very similar role in Jezebel in 1937 and she received an Oscar for that role. She was brilliant as a spoiled southern belle.. In fact, most of Bette's scenes and acting were far more complexed than many of the scenes Vivian did in Gone With The Wind..However, Vivian's movie was far superior in every way.. Bette was also nominated for Best Actress the same year as Vivian (1939) for a film in which she played a wealthy society gal who goes blind.. Both actresses had amazing careers, however, according to AFI, Bette Davis is the #2 greatest film actress of all time behind Ms Hepburn..

My mom took me to see it at the movie theater when I was in high school in the seventies. They brought it back out. I will never forget when Clark Gable enters the movie, the entire audience stood up and applauded. He had that kind of magnetism. Great actor. Great actress, Great Movie.

This was Selznick's greatest film. He and Vivien gave their all to it. It's filmmaking that doesn't exist anymore. ❤

This film also has the best interval, no other film can even attempt that shot of "God is my witness" scene and the background with Vieien's silhouette. MAJESTIC
The amount of chills that the scene brought to my soul is unparalleled.
I was only about 5 when my Mum took me and my Siblings to watch Gone with the Wind at the Pictures myself and my Siblings all though this Part was the End of the Movie not the break Gone with the Wind is A Classic and A Legend Criminal Both Actors never Won Academy Awards However although I was very young This did not Surprise me as I already knew the Awards were Fixed After BB never got best supporting actor in Ben Hur because he was Irish at this Time in History the Group The Evil 1s and their Top Pure Evil Military and SS Clones were planning their WW2 Doris Day also never got one for the Classic Legend Calamity Jane she Acted Sang and Danced and Made this Movie the Classic Legend it is However DD Parents were Germans so again it was Never going to Happen the Best Actors in the World were Nearly all English Brits and Hollywood needed them to make their Movies Great Yet so few Of the Greatest Actors in the World English Brits won awards As the Awards were so obviously Fixed I refused when I was very Young every to watch Hollywood's Fixed Academy Awards even when they were Right
I genuinely felt sorry for Rhett. Yeah he was a scoundrel but he was a big hearted guy, who deep down just wanted to be accepted in society and be loved unconditionally. This moment is where he found his strength.
Rhett spoke his mind that is why society did not like him. Eg when Rhett was asked about what he thought of the war Rhett spoke about how the Yankees could defeat them. Rhett spoke about arrogance & how he did not mean to spoil things.

This is my all time favorite movie. Such a great movie for this era.
When I finally had the chance to see Gone With The Wind for the first time, it was thankfully a special cinema re-release. I was lucky to find the exact downtown cinema location where I had never seen a movie before.

"Gone with the wind", and "Casablanca" two greatest movies ever. I'm so glad Hollywood did not remake, or God forbid make a sequel of these movies.
This was my late mother's favorite movie - it was of her generation. One of the great films from the 'Golden Age of Hollywood'. She always hated Scarlet, and thought she had that gorgeous man that adored her ( Rhett Butler) but still longed and chased after wishy washy Ashley.

OUTSTANDING. I never really got how GREAT CLARK was in this scene....stone cold serious with a blend of sadness, regret and yet compassion. Rhett took so much from her and she of course was Scarlet Clark should have won an Oscar

Clark Gable was born to portray this role, and MGM hit this out of the park when they filmed it. What I love about this scene is how we are shown how a manly man who’s been so ungratefully scorned, so graciously yet pointedly leaves his ungrateful woman. Guys, this is how it should be done should it happen to you. Make it about you even though it’s really all about THEM.
Right in front of them out of nowhere and when they least expect it, just get up, finish packing, give an “oh by the way, I’m leaving you so YOU can finally be happy,” and then immediately leave to avoid argument even if they cry . . . Text book. I love it.
If i had to keep one movie it would be Gone With The Wind. What a terrific cast actors. I have loved this since i first saw it. A classic in its own right. Never get tird of viewing it. Have several copies but when its on tv i still watch it. No movie will ever take its place for me.
There was a sequel written in the 1980s I believe but according to the original author the story ended where it ended. The fog to me is a metaphor of it never being clear whether Rhett and Scarlett were ever together again.
That's probably because you didn't read the book. It's very clear that Rhett is done. He's not angry at all. He pities Scarlett which horrifies her. As we all know, once you pity someone you adored, it's over.
Well, besides ambiguity, fog is more closely associated with death rather than reconnection. And just like he said, when Bonnie died, so did his love for Scarlett. If anything, him fading into the fog symbolizes him following after Bonnie, essentially leaving Scarlett's life permanently
In the sequel " Scarlett" they reconcile, They also have another daughter Kat , Scarlett was pregnant when Rhett left, He finds out about Kat later and is happy to be a father again.

The fog/mist is a direct recollection of Scarlett's recurring nightmare on their honeymoon.
Still the greatest ever. War and romance always the best combination in movies. Poor Scarlett. Fancy wanting wimpy Ashley over a real man like Rhett and now realising her mistake until it's too late.
Ashley was no wimp b/c he had the good sense to not get involved with Scarlet

I always feel that in the original book, Rhett looked more tired than in here. Here he was still able to carry a smile, but in my impression from the book, he was entirely worn out, not having any emotions
They both have lovely voices, hers so feminine and Clark Gables voice... just great.
Gable really DID deserve the Oscar for his portrayal of Rhett.

I saw this on the big screen a few weeks ago, and I got the goosebumps when Tara's theme, with the choir started playing. What a majestic ending to a magnificent motion picture.

One of my all time favorite movies. It’s been about 20 years since I last went to the movie theater. There is nothing I would pay to see. I would rather stay home and watch classics like this one.

My late Mother once told me of seeing this movie in the theater whe she was just a little girl. When Rhett said "that word", she said everyone in the theater gasped, lol. My, how times have changed.

"That's your misfortune" is probably the coldest response to an "I love you." 🤣 That's more profound to me than his final line, but unfortunately, it is so relatable. Relationships require hard work and HEART work by both parties, and for one to constantly give of themselves while the other hardly does the same is excruciating. This is an excellent example of why love is not enough to maintain a union with someone else. It really isn't. Sadly, not only in our favorite films but in life, some people learn too late. It's a shame because they cheat themselves and a loved one out of something that has the potential to be so beautiful. Humans.....glad I'm not one. 🤣
Most marriages fail because simply God is not involved in their relationship. Premarital sex, adultery, wouldn’t be issues if God was involved in every phase of a relationship. Men and women will always fail when they depend on themselves. How many books are there about true happiness found in this world ?? None that I know of, born again Christians can claim they have Joy, which is what you call lasting happiness. One thing born again Christians do is share the Gospel so others can see what it takes to have Joy in this world, but we also aren’t concerned about our lives here when we have eternal life with Jesus to look forward to. 🙏🏻✝️❤️

I don’t care what any modern kid might say is the greatest movie of all time. Gone With The Wind is by far the greatest movie ever made and to think that it was the Civil War that served as its background. Clearly David Selznick knew how to cast this movie and did so with regard to how it would play out some many years after it premiered. The cast was incredible and delivered everything they had to make Gone With The Wind the perfect movie of 1939. And to boot, there are some great scenes that are still as iconic as the day they were shot, especially the ending. Everyone who sees this film for the first time even now, thinks it’s over when Clark Gabel utters his famous line, but the last two minutes when Scarlett (Vivian Leigh) recalls what her father says about Tara is the most powerful scene for an ending. The best part overall though is Victor Fleming also directed the other classic 1939 film, The Wizard Of Oz and both films in their own ways are Classic films that nobody should miss seeing. Yes, there have been many great films made since these two, but for the Golden Era of Hollywood (prior to the great musicals), these two are keystone films that truly make movie making a great art.
As a 14 year old boy, I agree. I watched this in class today, and the ending gave me goosebumps 😆. I absolutely love the soundtrack.

Who took care of Melanie and her baby on the way back to Tara? And who took care of her father and rest of the family at the once mighty Tara? Though Scarlett didn't have many moments of caring for others.
She was acting like a spoilt child.
Heartbreaking she realised she loved him Too late! Film should have showed them getting back together after that scene. Having a reconciliation
Scarlett went through so much, unprepared, alone. She helped so many people during the war and yet she was abandoned by a man who could not deal with her.
Scarlett O’Hara had a good man in Rhett Butler and she never saw it until it was too late. She never appreciated him.

It's not well-known, but this is actually not the final scene of "Gone With the Wind". The final scene was deleted just before the movie was released. There we see Scarlett at the front gate of Tara. She looks down the road in the direction of the ruins ofTwelve Oaks where Ashley used to live, the man she no longer wants. The road is deserted. Scarlett then looks down the road in the other direction, toward Atlanta, where Rhett, the man she does love, no longer lives. The road in that direction is also empty. Scarlett turns away and walks back toward the house...alone.
I certainly never knew this. Where can I find this deleted ending scene?
@@andyroo9381I'm not aware of that final-final scene being available anywhere, but some time ago I saw a video here on You Tube that showed black-and-white pictures of this scene being filmed. Also you may see a GWTW picture of Vivien Leigh standing at a gate: that is a still from the missing scene. -- I haven't seen GWTW in quite a while but my recollection is that it shows a picture of Scarlett standing at the gate and that fits in with the deleted scene. -- I read Margaret Mitchell's biography "The Road to Tara" and was interesting to learn that Katie Scarlett was not the heroine's original name in the manuscript. She was called Pansy, but because that was also a derogatory term for gay men the name was changed. -- I' ve also read the Scarlett was based, at least in part, on real-life Viriginia Felton who became the first woman to serve in the Congress or Senate of her state or maybe on a national level. Too Virgnia Felton's husband was a physician and he actually lived the scene at the train station where the soldier were lying on the ground as far as could be seen.

To był pierwszy „ dorosły” film na jaki zabrała mnie Mama. Zrobił na mnie wstrząsające wrażenie. To było w 1964 roku. Natychmiast zakochałam się w Retcie Butlerze,nie tyle w Clarku Gablu ile właśnie w granej przez niego postaci- silnym, odważnym,bezkompromisowym mężczyźnie,który nie bał się w żadnej sytuacji być sobą a jednocześnie tak głęboko i prawdziwie potrafił kochać. Początkowo pamiętałam cały film scena po scenie,a i teraz wiele z nich tkwi głęboko w mojej pamięci.Dla mnie to dzieło ponadczasowe,nieporównywalne z żadnym innym. A motto Scarlet O’Hara „ I will think about it tomorrow” towarzyszy mi przez całe życie i w wielu niedobrych momentach pomagało przetrwać.
Great film and novel. If I had a daughter, then I would make this required reading and viewing. Its a timeless parable. I would hope she gets the lesson before embarking on her life.
The house Rhett built for Scarlett features 20 over 20 double hung sash windows. Truly monumental.
