A lot of folks don’t realize the solo is on the album version , it’s just down so low everything else drowns it out. The solo is kinda hidden. CC is so underrated
There were many session players on the album for the guitar solos, Jay Graydon, Larry Carlton etc, when CC was so much better. Also, during the Club days CC covered Low Spark of High Heel Boys and it was AMAZING. His voice was spot on BUT the truly great part was CC playing the Roger Hawkins Sax solo on lead guitar. Never been able to find a bootleg of that unbelievable song.
This song was huge when I went to Air Force Tech School at the beginning of my career in Wichita Falls, TX in Sept 1980. The best radio station I could get played soft rock and I would hear this song or Sailing almost every night before going to bed. It sure brings back the memories!

Well, several weeks later I found out my older brother was pranking me and I guess he just knew I would love the song. Needless to say I bought that album within the week and wore it out. What a great song and a great memory.
Kind of neat seeing a soft spoken fellow, known for his mellow hits, start wailing on the guitar... and doing a mighty fine job of it. Pretty kick ass guitar player, I'd say. I remember some his songs had some nice guitar solos. Never knew it was him. Until a few years ago, I assumed he was a piano/keyboard player, since his songs were very keyboard oriented.
He played on this one and maybe one other tune on the debut album (solos, I mean ---not sure who did the rhythm work). Jay Graydon had the solo on "Say You'll Be Mine", and Larry Carlton had one or two (I think "The Light is On", at least). Eric Johnson played an extended solo on "Minstrel Gigolo". Not sure about later albums ... kinda wish I'd kept up.
.. and the reason for the "keyboard orientation" was his lifelong musical partnership with Rob Meurer and the fact that the producer for the first two records was Michael Omartian; both very good pianist/keyboardists...

Magic! both Christopher and Michael and the band still sounding amazing. Great guitar riff by Christopher Cross at the end. Blew me away!
I am not the old rattlesnake... if you like this OLD SCHOOL collaboration... give me a hell yeah. I love both artists.
